Hi there, I've been an Android user for a couple of years now and I love tweking, modding, flashing and bricking (well, maybe not bricking, no ) my devices. Last week I also bought a Lumia 720, and I would really like to update to WP 8.1. I found out how to do it, doesn't look difficult.
Anyway, I couldn't find enough information about downgrading: will I be able to do it in case I need to?
Should I use Nokia Care Suit to download my current 8.0 firmware and then flash it back whenever I want to?
And what about warranty? Is it lost when I update to WP 8.1? Is it restored if I downgrade?
Sorry to bother you all, but I'm a real noob about Windows Phone...
You can downgrade with NCS, yes. Downgrade is not officially supported but there's no reason it shouldn't work and several people have reported trouble-free succes already.

I downgraded a 1020 with no issue, my 928 got bricked.... NCS crashed and now the 928 can't turn on. Just be careful is the bottom line.
I downgraded my 521 with ncs after my power button stopped working in 8.1. My power button still didn't work in 8.0 so I went back to 8.1 again. ? at least I can use double tap to wake my phone up or use the camera button.

Just a quick question. I've been looking around the internet for this. I just recently recieved a Huawei Acend W1 from Wind Mobile (canada) and the phone is a U-34, and not the usual u00.
The latest I can normally update my phone is 8.0.10211.204, and I was wondering whether there was anyway to update this to it's latest and third update. Is this just a problem for Canada and huawei not supporting the updates? My only problem is that I'm not sure if I'll EVER get the update here, as tbh I don't mind waiting.
Thanks for all and any help,
Edit: I just found this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51656759&postcount=28 and I'm thinking of trying it. Does anyone know if anyone has tried it?

you can try upgrade via Preview for Developers (preview for developers now upgrade to 8.1)
go to http://apps.windowsstore.com/default.htm and sign in with your Live (Microsoft) account which you use on phone. check mailbox on phone and install cert from mail you received from AppStudio
go to Store and install http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96. Run after install and activate it.... go to settings - check for update
The problem with that is that my phone is currently at the First update, so even though I have the developer preview downloaded, I can't open it as I need my phone to be at the latest OS.
All I am trying to do or want to do at this point is get my phone from G1 to G2.
I tried both of the guides above, and one gave me a handshake error, and the other a cookie error. Does anyone have any advice, maybe something I'm missing, that might help?
Thanks,
Using that same guide you used (http://forums.wpcentral.com/huawei-ascend-w1/229445-those-who-get-their-w1-market-locked-china.html), try flashing this rom: http://www.mediafire.com/download/l...030.5614.46900.20900_USA-Channel.05011TTC.zip. Supposedly it's a GDR2 ROM but I'm unable to test it because I don't have a u34 version of the phone. One thing to note is when following the guide, run all the qpst applications in administrator mode. You need to be running Windows Vista or above. Also, running it on a virtual machine will not work.
Thanks for the reply, I'll try this when I get home tonight. I've heard that a 32 bit windows 7 is the best OS to try it on. I have a W8 64 bit, do you know if that really makes a difference?

For me it does not work on windows 8.1 64bit, on the other hand it works perfect on windows 7 32 bit. But Microsoft has pulled out the latest update on the W1. They are working on it but so far I am still waiting for the update on the W1. You can follow the status of the updates on the following link : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-b6a2-fa6df0ba7c58?page=118&tm=1399777042881
There was a chinese forum that used a trick to get update by tricking the w1 by changing it in registry to a nokia device but I can't find the link anymore.
Tbh I'm perfectly fine waiting a couple weeks, but to get to that point I need to get to GSR2, as I'm still stuck with 1 atm. Didn't get a chance to try it last night, but I should be able to find a w7 32 bit pc to test it on.
Thanks for the reply and link to that thread.
I have successfully updated a Nokia 521 and 925 to WP 8.1 but the 810 is a frikkin pain in the rear. It gives me all BS reasons and I have used Nokia Software recovery tool to restore the phone and try everything again like 5 times already. Once I was able to get it to the point where it said you'll now be able to enjoy 8.1 but from that point onward, it's been nothing.
I am trying to move from Android to Windows and this is not fun. Why can't you sideload 8.1 like I can do with custom roms through recovery on Android?
My Dad has a 620, how do you even get 8.1, because when I try OTA it says it's up to date?

Preview devs (available now) or official (waiting).
I am creating this thread out of frustration in not being able to perform what seems like a simple OTA update to Windows 8.1 on my Lumia 810. I have used Android all throughout and am an expert when it comes to rooting and installing customs roms so I am thoroughly aware of things I need to do before I get 8.1. I have been able to get 8.1 succesfully on the 928 and the 521 so I have Preview for Developers installed on my phone. I have used the Nokia Recovery Tool to reinstall the OS and even managed to get through to the two updates prior to installing 8.1 where it gives me the message how I'll love 8.1.
This is where I am stuck. I get messages from "unable to download" or "Downloaded but cannot install" dumba$$ MS messages. I have tried 6 different wifis, turned the clock back, forward, region changes, lnguage pack changes, blah and blah. Nothing effin works!
Finally, I am concluding this is a space allocation issue. When I go into storage check, it shows more than 4 GB available but how do I give more space to system? I tried file manager/explorer but nothing works. I am 100% positive that the moment I give more space in the system folder I should be golden. I have tried removing apps, etc. but I don't think this affects system storage space. I have been trying this for the past 10 days but not going anywhere.
Thanks!

Seriously Lumia 810? 928 and 521 are windows 8. 810 is Windows 7, 7.5 up to 7.8 only. So there is no other way to upgrade it to 8.1. You are a good one when it comes to rooting your phone. But you aint good on doing a google search:laugh:
jaythang, Lumia 810 is a WP8 device! It's a 820 variant -_-
Have tried to hard reset e for first thing try to upgrade?

Lol. I know the 810 does not have an upgrade path but the phone can get 8.1 as per my Google search and some 810 users on this forum .
Lumia 810 is a windows phone 8 device.
To get 8.1, you need to be a registered developer, as the official version is still not yet available to the general public.

Don't know what part of the world you're from and I'm giving you the benefit of doubt but in the good old US of A, I get this for a quick Google search.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2142575/why-wait-how-to-install-windows-phone-8-1-right-now.html
http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-phone-81-preview-for-developers-now-available
Both these links mention that while the 810 may not get an official upgrade path, it will be through Preview for developers. Also, there are many users on this forum who claim they have 8.1 running on their 810s.:laugh::laugh:
But, how many device have you upgraded with your Dev Account? You can associate max 3 devices to a dev account

Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums but was recommended by a friend. He said that if anyone knew how to do what I need to do, this would be the place so I appreciate any help given.
I am looking to wipe out my Nokia Lumia Icon which has the Windows Phone 8.1 Dev kit on it and put on Android. I tried Windows Phone out but there is still a few kinks that need to be worked out before I fully commit. I would normally just go get an Android Phone but finances don't currently permit and the hardware on this phone is nice.
Thanks

Hi,
If I understand correctly, you want to install Android on this phone? If this is so, then you can not.
By cons, I do not quite understand "Windows Phone 8.1 Dev kit" You mean the Preview for Developers?

Yes, I was looking to wipe off Windows Phone 8.1 and install android. Any reason behind why you can't do it? Just software/hardware compatibility or what?
I did mean the preview for developers.
Thanks!
... you're awfully new to this smartphone thing, aren't you? With *very* few counterexamples, what you're asking for is almost never possible. Without going into the technical details:
1) Most smartphones have locked bootloaders. WP8 devices won't load any OS without a MS signature; good luck getting one of those for your Android image.
2) There's no "installer" for Android (or for WP) the way there is for Windows 7 or Ubuntu or something. You have to customize an Android image with device-specific firmware, then flash the whole thing. There currently doesn't exist any Android-compatible firmware for the Icon.
3) Most important of all: SEARCH BEFORE POSTING! It is literally the number one rule on this forum. Lots of noobs have asked this question; it's annoying answering them over and over again.
If you want to install Android on Lumia Icon, why don't you just buy an Android phone ?
Since the certificate for Dev-Unlocking Windows Phone 8.0 expired in May, has anyone come up with an alternative way to dev-unlock without updating to 8.1?
8.1 is much better bruv it wud be a better idea to just grab the update imo , ainit ?

It's a more complicated matter in this instance. I need to remain on the 8.0 firmware to get 10 working smoothly on the Ativ SE, and I need to unlock it on 8.0 to keep that firmware without spoofing another firmware (which will ruin the chance of me updating to 10).

Aight I assume your phone have an SD card slot, you might be able to get it unlocked via a language pack update ( no hard reset involved) , now the problem here is that I don't know much about how to do this but I'm sure @djamol would be able to help you , check out his posts I think I've seen him talk about this before ,, unfortunately I don't remember much as I've been busy lately , but I'm sure it is possible ,, also I don't know why would having 8.1 update ruin your w10m upgrade? I heard most people are upgrading fine,,, also .. I think there's an interop unlock for w10m itself being released soon as w10m is released
