Converted to GPE - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently changed my MID and CID of my HTC One to enable me to flash a GPE RUU. Everything is currently going fine, however I am unable to unlock the stock Google bootloader, meaning I am unable to root and flash a custom recovery. I have tried fastboot oem unlock, and have also tried flashing an unlock token from HTCDev, all with unsuccessful results. Could anyone suggest what to do next as I would like to flash some mods to add to the HTC to make it better.
Thank you.

Known issue, basically you're stuck.

Are you s-off? Then you can unlock by other means.

I have just come across this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
Would I not be able to reflash the pre-rooted GPE RUU in that thread or would it need to be rooted in the first place?

Do you have root in your current rom? If so grab Flashify from play store and use it to flash twrp recovery img.

I have no root privileges at all. I have tried downloading SuperSU and Superuser from the Play Store and neither have been able to install binaries. I have s-off, so what other methods could I use?

Ah, then we'll play a little trick. Since you're s-off you can flash unsigned firmware, so here's a firmware.zip that contains only TWRP recovery.
firmware_twrp.zip
Download the file (hit Ctrl-S to download the zip after clicking the link) and flash it via fastboot:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware_twrp.zip
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After reboot select Bootloader, then select Recovery and you'll boot into TWRP. From there you can flash SuperSU.zip to gain root or mods, etc.

Flashify Flashing Recovery, Help!

Quick question, right now I and using TWRP I want to use CWM to flash cm11. Can I just just Flashify to flash the CWM.img and overwrite TWRP?
Thank you.
What's flashify?? Why not use fastboot flash recovery nameofrecover.IMG ?

here is the link to flashify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify&hl=en
the reason why i want to use flashify because it is basically a one click flash recovery. you selected the recovery.img then hit flash.
i have used it only to update TWRP, i want to know if I flash CWM.img will it overwrite TWRP (which I want).

I have never used this app, interesting though.
Don't see why not, I would just wipe caches before you flash.. if it doesn't work all you would have to do is reboot to bootloader and then flash recovery this way using ...fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
Is Flashify actually supported on HTC One M7??

Yes, the dev just updated the app to support most HTC devices including all M7.
Thanks for your input.

[Q] Is it possible to root without installing a custom recovery?

I've got a GPE One and I just want it rooted without a custom recovery so that I can still get OTA updates. Is this possible?

On hboot 1.44 it was, but you're likely on a higher version already, so what you can do is flash recovery, root, and reflash stock recovery. That way you'll still get OTAs once you relock your bootloader (assuming that you're s-on, otherwise no need to relock)

you can flash your stock recovery the same way you flash a custom recovery. The only thing you need is to find the stock recovery you need. Check what is your main-ver # and download the ruu.zip or ota.zip that match your main-ver and extract the zip to find the recovery.zip file. Then move it to your adb/fastboot folder and open a cmd prompt from that folder.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.zip
fastboot reboot
you can also copy/paste the output of this command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
minus EMEI and SN and maybe we'll be able to link you the stock recovery you'll need to flash after you have rooted your device.

[Q] i bricked my M7 with wrong firmware

hi all
i was tried to flash my M7 from 4.3 to 4.4.2
downloaded the OTA update 4.19.401.7
contained :
DATA
META-INF
PATCH
System
Firmware.zip
Fotaboot
Skin_fota
the wrong step is : extracted the Firmware.zip file only
and flashed it only by :
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
now the phone is bricked, only boot to the HTC logo and black screen
when i try to press power bottom, the (Back & Home) led blinking
i was boot to bootloader and copy this information to you :
***LOCKED***
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.56.0000 (it was 1.55 before)
RADIO-4A.23.3263.28
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
OS-4.19.401.9 (it was 3.62.401.1)
eMMC-boot 2048MB
Feb 7 2014,01:06:01.0
i was try to rename the OTA file to Firmware.zip and flash it again, but always failed
i was try to flash downgrade Firmware (3.62.401.1) also failed
i was try to flash RUU.exe (1.28.401.7) from the Fastboot screen and from the rebootRUU screen also failed
i was try to wipe and re-flash the same Firmware.zip file, it's flashed with no failed steps, but still bricked and no system to boot into
can you help me ?
My suggestion:
You are acting nervous, don´t know, from where you got the solutions you´ve tried. Your phone is not bricked if you have access to your bootloader as you wrote but yo can´t flash the needed things with a locked bootloader. Would be better to ask before every step, if you don´t know what to do.
1st you can send your device to HTC for repair...i think you have to pay for that
or 2nd (read and think about the warranty):
Unlock your bootloader via HTC.Dev. http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter
With locked bootloader it won´t run. If you have access to your bootloader, you are able to flash a recovery via Fastboot-USB and have access to adb. With S-On you can´t run the RUU you´ve tried, because you can´t downgrade your phone. S-Off would be the solution, but at the moment you can´t get it with your high HBoot version.
I think, the correct firmware is ready on your phone and you should
- unlock your bootloader with your Unlock_code.bin from HTC.Dev, flash it via Fastboot-USB fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin, accept the message on your phone, then
- flash TWRP 2.6.3.3 m7 recovery via fastboot, fastboot erase cache then fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
- sideload Maximus Rom or ARHD 52.0 via adb in recovery adb sideload HTC_One_-_MaximusHD_32.0.0.zip (if other rom, you have to replace the correct filename of the zip)
- or sideload the stock odexed rom 4.19.401.9 from the same download area at ARHD for the One
- check the MD5 sum before sideload! http://www.flashplayerpro.com/MD5Checksum/downloadMD5Checksum.htm
(even saw, the links of ARHD are down at the moment - the server problems of mike 1986 are not gone. Try it tomorrow or read the last sites of the thread to find alternative links),
- wipe data, system, dalvik cache and cache in recovery (not sd card)
- install the rom.zip via recovery, reboot into bootloader and
- flash the boot.img copied out of the rom via fastboot. fastboot erase cache then fastboot flash boot boot.img then fastboot erase cache
Then your device hopefully will boot again.
If the steps of flashing roms with TWRP are after reading this not really known, read the FAQ before.
If you are able to go to bootloader then give it a try. Unlock bootloader then try to flash firmware.

OP, didn't we agree that you were going to wait??
I'm not entirely sure if stock recovery will read an OTG cable + stick, but worth a try:
if you haven't unlocked yet, get yourself an OTG cable + stick, put the OTA.ZIP (yes all of it, not just firmware), on the stick. connect it to your phone, and reboot into stock recovery, then press POWER + VOLUP (and hope it sees the otg), and use the "apply from sdcard" option to install the OTA.

Yes, unlock your bootloader from HTCdev.com.
Assuming you are still s off,you just need to pack up your recovery image into a zip file with an android info text document. This type of file is easily installed via fastboot and ruu mode.
The easiest way to make this file is to take another file, like the firmware file from an OTApkg or an ruu. Extract it,and delete everything but the android info text file. Insert your recovery image. Rezip.
Alternately, you could always re-unlock the old fashioned way,via htcdev. Depending on if any parameters have changed, you may even be able.to use your original unlock_code.bin

Like he said, use a firmware.zip archive from i.e. a ruu or ota. Delete all file except the android-info-txt. Place your custom recovery named recovery.img in that archive then flash it in ruu mode, make sure the android-info.txt match your device info, edit it as required.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip

[Q] Regain root (super user) access on Stock Sense

Hi guys,
Here are my current specs:
HTC One m7 International
firmware (OS): 4.19.401.11
HTC Sense 5.5
Android 4.4.2
CID-HTC__001
HBOOT 1.56
Radio-4A.25.3263.21

Kernel 3.4.10-ElementalX-13.5
I already unlocked the bootloader and gained the S-off.
After the last software update when I lauch the SuperSu app V.1.25 I got this error message: "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSu cannot install it. This is a problem!"
What should I do?
Thanks for your patience
Recently had to figure this out for myself. Here's what worked for me: Your next step is to flash a recovery. You'll have to flash twrp or cwmr from fastboot, so you may need to open the zip up and make sure the android-info.txt matches your phone. "fastboot getvar all" will show you what you need it to say.
Once you've updated that file, from the bootloader enter "fastboot oem rebootRUU", and flash with "fastboot flash zip filename.zip". Then you can boot into recovery and install su.

fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Enter recovery and on exit it will ask to install superSU, Swipe to say yes
after the phone boots up open superSU and choose TWRP to finish the install
Regain root (super user) access on Stock Sense
I currently have the TWRP 2.7, but my su.zip file seems not to work.
