[Q] SImply want root in ATT Note 3 - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm really new to all of this. But, from all of the info I have been able to find here, it doesn't appear that I can currently root the ATT Note 3 N900A on 4.4.2 running baseband NC2. Am I wrong, or am I just lost in the mountains of threads found on this forum?

Instead of spamming the same question throughout the 'mountains of threads' try r-e-a-d-i-n-g them.

I have been reading them. The only issue I have found is conflicting information. I had to do research to find out the difference between MJ5 and NC2. I had no idea there were difference basebands for the same phone on the same carrier.

No sweat young grasshoppa, it's a lot of information to take in at first. But the all in one guides like the link I posted should be your first go to.

How do I root a Stock N1 FRF91?

Hi Guys
I agree there are TONS of threads on this forum, but somehow, not all of them describe the same steps (or maybe just that I'm a little too confused)
I have a stock unlocked N1 with FRF91 and would like to root my phone
Basically the whole idea behind rooting my N1 is to be able to use ShootMe (screenshot app)
Can someone please give me some step-by-step instructions on how to do it?
I'm actually a n00b at Android, so any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
I don't think there is a way yet with stock.

I'm glad we agree.
I'll give you a hint, though. You need to find two threads to do what you need. Both the threads that you need are in the first page of the dev forum. The mere act of glancing over the titles of the thread won't get you anywhere, try reading some of them for a change.
EDIT-I take it back, there's only one thread you need to find. And considering how prominent a position it's holding in that forum, it's plain obvious that you haven't bothered to look.

The whole point of these forums is to help people out, not to degrade them. They might be new to the site and dont know how its set up. Try not being a jerk and actually help them out. You know like direct them to the thread w/ a link.

I am sure that erikikaz must've gone through the thread that he/she thinks applies to me, but a link to it would've been a lot easier.

No, I didn't go through the thread before deciding to not link it. I just know that the thread is there. If you had looked for it, you would have seen it. The previously-mentioned thread has been stickied in the previously-mentioned forum for at least a week now. Considering that stickied topics are an obvious READ-ME-FIRST tactic, well, you should have known better and actually looked.
And yes, it would have been a lot easier--a lot easier for you, had I posted the link. Waiting for someone else to do the work for your is not how you learn.

I can't root with Kingo. Tried activeroot too
Do you know any others that I can use to root WITHOUT flashing anything (because I do not want to trip the KNOX warranty void flag).
Thanks.
Kingo doesnt work as of 1/9/2014 on the phone details below.
I dont know what I'm doing wrong .. I followed all instructions and still get the error "prevention notification" "an app is force closed because of an unauthorized attempt to access system" comes up every time I try to (unsuccessfully) use kingo to root. Kingo fail with Root FAILED ScriptError
at&t note 3 SM-N900A
My baseband is N900AUCUB MJ5
kernel 3.4.0-1625098
developer settings:
- usb debugging ON
- verify apps via usb OFF
security settings:
- unknown sources ON
- verify apps OFF
Any ideas appreciated.......... I dont want to flip that knox warranty trigger by doing the wrong thing (trying to avoid flashing..)

I hate it, makes it so difficult for members to find info, when someone starts the same thread every day.

On another forum, I find many times that when someone asks a question I don't know the answer to, a Google search brings up a good answer as the very first hit. And it takes longer to post a question than it does to do a Google lookup.
It's not laziness, it's lack of knowledge. The majority of the public is totally clueless when it comes to computers, even to using them for everyday tasks - like googling something. Laziness is a post titled GPS, with the body saying "doesn't work". Then they get angry because we tell them we need more information. (Many people have responded along the lines of "how do you keep this job when you don't know anything?" Job? When can I expect my first pay check?)

Yeah it does seem like that.
As for lazy, there are multiple forms. They must know Google or they wouldn't be At this site unless someone directed them here then if that was the case that person probably could have just helped. But for myself I tend to look up and see what's going on at least daily if not more frequent. And if I don't google/search I'll at least scroll through the first couple of pages at the topic to see if one matches or similar. When it comes to rom questions I read that entire thread and then ask unless it is a crazy busy post then I'll use the search. Too many times I see repetitive posts and I can see how so many get agrivated, specially when that exact same question was asked and answered on the page or 2 prior. That right there is another example of lazy.
And yes I agree that it has a lot to do with a lack of knowledge but I would not say lazy isn't a party of it

The post with the info from the dev starts out with how to then there are at least 20 pages of stuff to sift through to determine what issues people are having and what not with the processes.
So It might be easy for the veterans however for the noob it isnt quite so clear.
I hope I dont get flamed for this...

Unlock Boot Loader for the Note 3?

Searched but did not an answer.
Anyone aware of any work by the devs for unlocking the bootloader on the Note 3, or is this something that won't be available at all for this device?
If yes, then I'll wait for it. If it's not coming anytime soon and I'll just use Safestrap.

It has been talked about a lot. Safestrap is the only available method to do anything for our phone as of this time. I don't see a bootloader unlock coming anytime soon. They still haven't cracked it for the S4 to my knowledge.

I searched "unlocking the bootloader on the Note 3" on Google and clicked the first link. Took under a minute. You could even simply look around this forum and find your answers in many different threads as this question is asked every single day and usually gets worse replies than the one's you've received so far. Developers continually state the request of users to not nag about release dates, progress, etc... Maybe even throw a little common sense in and think to yourself
"Hmm. If I was a developer and I was getting asked the same questions 100+ times a day - cluttering my thread - while I'm putting my hard work into developing FOR FREE on my own personal downtime for the community, wouldn't I get irritated after the millionth time too?"
Or something along those lines. Hundreds will agree, hundreds will disagree, even more won't care.
Conclusion: Search, Research, Search again.
Developers are ALWAYS working their way around these locked down devices and they typically wish to be granted with the patience of others. The more they have to answers those types of questions the longer it'll take for them to develop. You'll know when there's been a breakthrough and you'll know when there's been a release. We're lucky to even have SafeStrap at this point and that's currently all we have.
Information gathered from searching for you. You're welcome.

Lollipop available for Tmobile Note 4? Yes, or no?

I posted the same question in the general note 4 section and they were quick to point me back to the tmobile forum. I have a simple question.
"Is there a version of lollipop available for the US Tmobile version of Note 4, or are we still waiting?" There are so many variants, 910F, 910C, etc. etc. and most of the stickies on this topic are several pages long. As much as I would like to be a good community member and not add more threads on the same topic, I also don't want to be reading hundreds of pages, and hoping someone can enlighten me.
I am pretty handy at flashing roms, just need to know where to go to get what, if I wanted to get Lollipop on my unrooted, completey stock Tmobile Note 4.
Thanks so much xda.
A quick google search would have gotten you your info
Also this should be in the Q&A
OTA, no. Fastest way to check that is by checking the update button in your phones settings. You can also Google it.
AOSP, yes. Fastest way to check that is by looking in the XDA tmobile Note 4 Development forum. Both are quicker than posting the question. Not to be a sarcastic jerk, but 30 seconds of checking would save you face over 30 seconds of asking a question most of the time.

New User Rooting Help

Howdy, folks.
I'm coming from a 3+ year old HTC10 and have an S10 ( G973UZKAXAA factory rooted) on the way. My understanding is that this is the Snapdragon CPU. Can someone point me to the correct thread/guide to root this phone? I'm seeing instructions for Magisk and TWRP, but I'm new to the Samsung world, so I'm a bit confused on where to start.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, sorry - I mis-spoke - I did mean unlocked. In any case, for those of us who want to relieve ourselves of factory bloatware and have an unlocked and rooted phone, which model number would it be? There are variants all over the map.
Or, would this method using Magisk seemingly confirmed here at XDA get me where I want to be in terms of root?

What confuses me is that some indications suggest that rooting the Snapdragon variant will work, though opinions are all over the map, and not all of them are current. Since development is constantly in motion, it's hard to know for sure.
Here's the link to a guide for rooting with Magisk:
https://www.idroidspace.com/how-to-root-galaxy-s10-xda-reddit/
Here's a guide to flashing TWRP for Snapdragon S10 (which wouldn't be possible without root, I presume):
https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxyS10qcom.html
Am I just reading all of this wrong? I'm sure you can appreciate that with all this conflicting information and hundreds upon hundreds of pages across multiple threads, it's hard to know for sure.
Thanks in advance!
Exynos models can be rooted. Only some snapdragon models can be rooted, but they aren't U.S. models. The U.S. model phones are locked down tight.

To be expected if you've been a Samsung user all along. I've been an HTC user across the Tilt, HD2, Inspire, One and 10. That covers about... what... fifteen years?
So, "well known" to some is not so much to others. Obviously you immerse yourself in this, follow it vigorously, and therefore have knowledge that others don't. I buy a phone every couple years for business and personal use. I unlock, root, perhaps install a custom ROM but not always, install the necessary apps (TiBu, AdAware, etc.) and I'm done with it. It's not a hobby to me.
That said, I've already sent the phone back. Safe to assume the G975F/DS is what I'd be in need of?

I buy a phone every couple years for business and personal use. I unlock, root, perhaps install a custom ROM but not always, install the necessary apps (TiBu, AdAware, etc.) and I'm done with it. It's not a hobby to me.
That said, I've already sent the phone back. Safe to assume the G975F/DS is what I'd be in need of?

Nope, wrong on all accounts. I came to the S9 then S10 after years of owning and developing firmware for Motorola phones. It doesn't take a genius to read and do a little research before they sink almost a grand into a phone. It also only takes less than a minute to Google and find the answer you've been hashing about for days. It sure as hell doesn't take a genius to figure out how to Google or even search XDA for that matter. Hell, it's been mentioned here a 100 times. If it takes you this long to figure out if you can root, you probably don't want to try.
