I was wondering if someone who has had a chance to use these cases in the real world, what would you recommend?
I work in construction (often from rooftops and ladders from which my OG EVO had its demise) and I need a case that can give my M8 a decent chance at survival.
However I also don't wish to sacrifice functionality.
I owned an otterbox Defender for my EVO LTE, but dragging down the status bar was a huge pain, and the screen protector was so scratched that I removed it and simply added a film cover.
So, anyone got any good ideas?

Well I grabbed a defender for my m8, it seems more streamlined than the evo lte version, I can tell you that you won't have a problem dragging the status bar though.
I always kick out the built-in protectors, imo they end up doing more harm than good in the long run.

The commuter I picked up for $2.09 after a coupon in a Sprint store, it's a very neat looking and sturdy case for two bucks!

I tend to agree about the screen but it also protects a lot of crap getting in when I toss my phone in my toolbelt. Is the holster any better on the m8 vs the evo lte?
I was also thinking about the UAG. Anyone got any opinion how it would hold up?

It was fairly cheap, and it works great.

Well my main problem with otterbox screen protector and the m8 is the cutouts for the speakers. Stuff would get in protector or not, but with protector there's more chance for scratching imo.

I've had stuff get in my case (results of my lte living in my toolbelt lol) and never had the screen actually get scratched. A miracle imo.
Would you say the otterbox Defender is the best? And how bulky and how easy is it to remove? It will get banged up so I tend to use something else on the weekends. Been actually thinking about trying the Commuter or UAG this time.

Well i originally went into the store to repair my cracked screen for my EvoLTE and insurance cost $100 for replacement... Well needless to say I got angry about the THREE replacement phones in 5 days and the store manager hooked me up with some major discounts including a zero downpayment on my M8 a commuter series case MSRP $39.98 here All i had to pay was sales tax on the phone $34.99, and $2.09 sales tax on case... So really i lost like $10 but its a win win for me in my eyes... I also traded in my EvoLTe got $25 out of it... Hence the reason i got the huge discounts...
So i just got lucky on a $2 case...i think they coded it as the cheapest case they could aswell... Just ask them if there is any kind of discounts they can give doesnt hurt to ask!

Also, the guy is wrong. there is something in a name. Otterbox replaced my case 4 times in a year. That's a big deal to me.

I work in construction. A lot of times I'm a roofer. And most days I have my phone (not this one til I find the right case lol) in a pouch in my toolbelt hanging out with nails, prybars, and other items that would love to beat the crap outta my m8.
My og evo took it's demise from a slide down a roof, teetered on a gutter, then a quadruple backflip to the cement about 20 feet down with nothing but a plastic $10 case.
Since then I've had Defender cases. haven't had that happen again, but I hate how bulky it is. And the shield is almost worthless to me after a week on the job it's completely scratched up and the holster is too much trouble clipping on and off while working in the real world.
Anyway I appreciate your help but I'm I'd really like to know if anyone had something they thought was as durable and possibly less bulky.

Not if your in construction or any similar conditions.
I have a case mate naked tough which provides as much protection as the commuter I recently returned but looks much nicer.
I've considered the defender because I too work in industrial construction and my M8 is exposed to dust and dirt and a lot of adverse conditions..
I'd really like a lifeproof style option (waterproof , more importantly dustproof, and still stylish).
I'm the guy you want to here from. I work with at&t and am up and down poles and on the occasional rooftop as well. Suffice to say I can beat up my devices too.......plus I'm a case fanatic. I have a UAG, a Defender, and the Incipio Dual being sold by Verizon. Those are my 3 toughest cases as I also have the SUPCase with frosted back and the clear KaysCase.
It sounds like you need the Defender. It offers hands down the best protection of all my cases and is much more streamlined than previous Defender cases. Its just slightly bulkier than the UAG but has the added holster you can keep it in with the screen covered in your tool belt.

I had one of these for my kindle fire and loved it. I'm getting by with a cheap case for my N7 until the Seidio case comes out.
I'll be keeping my eye out for this also. I've had seidio active cases on mine and my wifes nexus s's for over a year and a half now. They are great and have held up well. I like how they feel in the hand with their grippy silicon like material and they give the device great protection.

Was on their website and they have one case available, without a cover unfortunately.

They are still not shipping but i saw it. The other one should be the same as the one in the picture but with a cover of course.
Debating if i want to go with the regular active case and a screen protector or the other case.
For those that havent used seidio before. Its kinda like a tpu case. Rubber with a hard plastic shell over it.
I have used them on my phones for a while now and im happy with these cases.

Hi there! Did you end up getting the case? If so, how do you like it? Did you get the model with the cover? If so how bulky does the unit become with the cover attached? (Either on the front or back).
It looks like there's a recessed section on the cover (to make room for the adjustable stand), but I'm worried that it will add too much bulk to the profile of the N7.
Thanks!

This case is only good for protection from scratches. While using this case I dropped my Note 2 from 2 feet onto pavement and the screen cracked. The case is great if you want something very slim but I wouldn't trust it for drop protection. The casemate tough case is also very slim but provides 10 times more protection.

Yep, read another post with someone dropping their phone using this case and it shattered the screen. It's slim and protects from scratches, but next to nothing drop protection.
+1 for Case-Mate Tough as one of the slimmest cases with a drop protection on par with other cases twice of it's thickness.

I have the aluminum button from spigen over the home button for that very reason.
Back to this case to be honest I didn't even think it looked all that great. The back is an absolute grease and finger print magnet.
After getting my phone replaced I tried out the seidio surface case (which I liked, good kickstand) before finally settling on the casemate tough case. It seems to be the perfect marriage of slimness and protection. Although I'm probably going to order the seidio convert case add on for the surface case I already own for those trips where I might want additional protection.

It comes in 3 colors for 10 bucks. Actually the black and silver look very nice, much better than stock and I actually prefer the tactile feel. It has a very nice metallic spiral design. I had a slim case on my N2 once, a Nilkin one but pretty much the same design as this one.
Then I dropped my phone whilst getting out the car, and now I have a dirty great big crack across the bottom of my screen. No insurance...
Now I have my phone in an Otterbox, with a film screen protector to hopefully stop the crack getting worse. I has a very big sad.
Do yourself a favour, avoid slim cases as they're worse than useless. They give a false sense of security that WILL be shattered, along with your screen, when you drop it. If you're going for a case, get something that PROTECTS!
That's exactly what I just wrote in another thread for Case-Mate Tough. If you want a super slim case, great grip, and durable corner protection to give you a piece of mind - there is no better choice but Tough case.

I am having the same problem, too slippery for me to feel comfortable without a case. I also have big hands, so it is a little small for me to hold comfortably without a case. I also find I really miss the kickstand that my previous two phones had, so I am thinking about getting one of the cases that include a kickstand.
I always advocate playing safe cell phone, so I wrap it up. However, with my M7, I will take it out of the case while at work because our floors are carpeted.
One thing though: I'm waiting for the silver M8 to come out on Sprint before upgrading because self-proclaimed "careful" people in the unlocked One forum are reporting scratches on the gold and gray versions. The stock silver One has no coating to scratch.

I never had a case on my M7, but I went through 4 of them for different malfuctions, and each one wound up having a dented corner or scratched up grill. So considering this one is even heavier, I know the damage will be worse.

I made a new thread about this case with some pics. I just don't have any with the phone in it. The case is awesome. Very high quality

Thanks, saw that. After careful consideration, I went with the UAG Maverick. I have an i-Blason clear TPU cover and a Kayscase ArmorBox. Like the first one for being clear and the second for having a kickstand, but wanted to have a 3rd one with Mil Specs protection, and yet be clear if possible, and high quality, so the UAG came on top, at least in paper. We'll see how it works when I get it.
Of course, I might add more cases to the collection in the future, especially if Mophie gets their **** together and makes a juice pack case.
