How to backup? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I'm rooted, on ExistenZ rom, and i like trying new things, rom and stuff. So i guess it will be great to do a back up, and save my data and all kind of things.
Do you know what to use to to something like that?

One ROM to another ROM: backup/restore question

First, I have to thank the XDA forums helping me come over from my long WinMo background. Mad Props...
Being new to Android and my nexus one, I'm feeling the ROM flashing bug and want to try out a couple of different ROMS but don't want to have to add all of my accounts each time since I use crazy long, nearly impossible to type, passwords.
Is there some way to restore some of the configuration of my N1 between different ROM flashes?
Sorry if this has been covered, but I can't find it. It looks like the data is backed up in my nandroid backups, but I can't seem to find out how to only restore configuration.
Thanks
Rick
Take a look at Titanium Backup.
It works really well.
You need to be rooted and superuser in order to use it.
To find out more about adding superuser to a stock ROM, check out this thread at Modaco.
Edit:
Nandroid backups are really "just" disk images afaik.
There's no way that I know of to extract information from them.

Ok, thanks. I am running the backup right now and will give it a try tonight. Worse case, I just restore the nandroid backup and try again.
I've always wondered, what stuff is safe and not safe to restore in Titanium Backup. I've done a full restore when switching between like roms, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea if you were going from cyanogen to a senseUI rom.

[Q] Making a backup of complete rom for flashing back (MAGLDR)

hi
don't know if this is the correct section, or if i should have posted in the nand development, but i'll try here
i love my current rom, but wanna try something new. so i'm wondering if there's a possibility for me to make a complete backup of the rom (like a dump or so), which i can easily flash back.
magldr 1.13 ist installed, but no clockworkmod or something like that. i read that when flashing clockworkmod recovery your rom will be wiped, and i don't wanna lose my current setup.
i'm aware of titanium backup, but as far as i know it "just" backsup applications, settings, contact, etc., not the whole rom.
do you have any hints for me? that'll be great
thank you very much & have a nice day
ahh sorry friend..

I dont know if this is possible without Clockwork(Recovery)Mod Im sure somebody here may know something about possibly doing it but, they will probably tell a way where you'd need CWM installed, or you wont get an answer of how for sure to use something by the time you want to change, it's addicting lol

New Note old backup

Hi all
After smashing the screen on my Note i am getting a new one on the insurance, well i am when they decide to deliver it!!!
just want to know if it will be ok to root and restore my backup from the old phone?
i was running criskelo v9.1 at the time with speedmod kernal i think
big time
Are you talking nandroid restore? If so choose advanced restore and restore system and data only this will restore the rom and your apps anything else might cause issues, like restoring old imei and stuff.
Or you could extract certain things from the nandroid using titanium backup or similar app

i was using cwm for my backs/restores before and i desperately need my notes and phones off the old backup.
wouldnt the imei coarse problems?
you will get all your notes back with the data restore.
It might be safe to restore the whole nandroid but i wouldnt advise it, Personally ive never tried so hopefully someone who has can confirm ?
your imei from your old not wont replace the new one, But it could modify it and leave you with the samsung generic one.
thanks for the help, hopefully i should have the phone by saturday and get testing....

Did not create a backup of my stock

Can't seem to find a topic about this aside from people saying always make a backup.
So anyway I poopooed it and flashed a custom Rom without making a backup of my stock Rom is this bad?
Or aslong as I have a working custom Rom backup I don't need to worry about it.
Sorry if this is a total noob question but I am a recent apple convert so still new to this.

Bump anyone?
All the kind of backup you're talking about needs to do is work, you're not backing up a specific configuration or any specific data and thus it's not necessary for it to be stock (although people backup stock just because it's the base vanilla and unmodified version of Android), all the first backup you make needs to be is something you can fall back on if your current setup stops working. Having a working backup is always useful but as to whether you have "poopooed" anything by not backing up stock, if the current ROM you're on is working and ideally has a stock Kernel then simply back that up and nothing will be "poopooed", everything will be weeweed.
Thanks for reply, I figured as much but still wanted to be sure.

[Q] Restoring backup from recovery

Hi guys!
I feel the urge to try a custom ROM. I´m used to fiddle with these things on Samsung but I feel a little nervous doing it on my Xperia.
Here´s the deal: I have *230 stock firmware ODEXED with a CWM recovery. It also has the bootloader unlocked.
If I make a full backup from recovery, can I really just restore it on the Xperia if I´m not happy with the ROM I´m about to flash? The reason I´m asking is that I have to flash another kernel with the new ROM. Is it really possible to just restore everything that easy afterwards?
Thanx!

LOL! i have the same question!!
but i tried to backup the DATA ONLY (better) with TWRP(worked fine) but i restored it when i was on the same rom that i backed up from! not sure if it will work or not on another one!
but the better to select backup data only from recovery! and use TWRP!
and when i restored it... and BOOM!!! IN 167 SECs MY PHONE AND APPS AND GAMES AND MASSAGES AND CONTACTS AND SETTINGS AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS BACK AS IT WAS BEFORE!!!
