[Q] Freezed Camera - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello !
So I successfully rooted my wifes Sony Xperia Z1 3 weeks ago, after that Sony has released several firmware updates, and I have never had a problem with this. I have always followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711982
And it has worked well. The phones bootloader is unlocked and It has runned all versions up to 14.3.A.0.681 without any problems. (I also have the XZDualrecovery mentioned in that thread).
So last time, the new 14.3.A.0.757 upgrade was released, and as always I did everything in the thread as usual. Root and upgrade went smoothly without any problems, or so I thought. Now, if using the normal camera for taking photos, if you touch the "take photo" button the flashlight goes on, but no picture is taken, also the camera can't focus on anything. The whole app freezes, and you need to force close it and try again. The front-face camera works without any problems. This happends every time, so reproducing is really easy. I have tried to wipe the cache-partition, I have tried to clear the data and cache from all camera-related apps too, nothing of this helps.
So, I downgraded to 681 sussessfully with root and everything, all boots fine without problems... But.... The camera app is still broken in the very same way .
I red somewhere that people with OTHER cameraproblems have flashed the ported camera from Z2 to fix problems, but I doubt this could help?
I am a bit desperate, I really want my wifes camera to work again, any tip would be wonderful.
If unrooting and running stock is the only solution, so be it, but If you have any other ideas, I would be so grateful
Thank you again

If you have unlocked your bootloader it is as simple as flashing a stock FTF then DooMLoRDs advanced stock kernel, or DooMKerneL, or [NUT]s kernel with dual recovery in it for the 757 FW
The latest version of any of these three will give you root and recovery and your phone
Also, have you tried clearing the data in ALL the camera apps in
settings/apps
That may just do the trick
Also, don't worry, I have already reported this thread to get it moved to the Q&A section so you do not have to bother, but next time you ask a question please do it in the Q&A thread.

Thank you for good suggestions, I just remembered that I did not try to do a wipe data/factory reset, maybe this will help, also I tried to move my topic to Q&A but didn't know how to do
My wifes phone will be in my hands tomorrow, I hope to do magic then ...

help Can anyone recommend a good rom for my wife

Can anyone please advise, my wifes xperia z recently received the ota update 4.3, which worked fine it seemed at first but we noticed the unability to tether to her laptop. my xperia t which is on the same network is fine. After various attemps to sort this out ie factory reset/ deleted some apps. I decided to repair using pc companion, which I did this morning, and guess what (no change?). I really didn't want to go down the same route as myself with custom roms but somehow this has left me with no other option. so I downloaded a 4.12 stock ftf and have flashed this using flashtool. And guess what, ( tethering is now working? ). I have now rooted and installed cwm, I have also downloaded dual recovery ver, 2.7.86. for locked bootloader to install to ext sd. Now am unsure which rom is suitable like stock as she is still new to her phone and still learning. I would appreciate any advise or comments. thanks in advance.
If.she likes stock try flashing stock 4.3 with full wipe you might had bad ota update

thanks, I thought this aswell. I have installed SuperHanss stock version, just in case she turns out to be a bit of a teckie

[Q] A bunch of questions regarding stripped FTF, setting backups, multicore tools

Hi, i rooted my Z1 on Monday and a few questions pop up, so what did i do:
i had 4.4.2, so i downgraded, then rooted, then installed dualrecovery, then using CWM i flashed [Nut]'s .681 FTF and saw i got superSU and stuff, checked for root and i seem to have root. phone seems to be working fine.
Q1: What is the stripped FTF for? i flashed the corresponding stripped FTF later, also from [Nut], but it kinda broke things, and i started to experience strange things like vibration&sound gone, gyroscope not working, etc. so i flashed [Nut]'s .681 back but without the stripped FTF - works fine this way and i got root. In my research i found that the stripped FTF supposedly only contains a kernel. is that true? what is different in that kernel? do i need it or can i keep the kernel that comes with the .681 ROM?
Q2: Today i found out a new version came out the .757. i purchased Titanium backup, and made backups of my third party apps and data. i also made a TWRP backup, and i am considering flashing the new .757 ROM. But i would like to know if there is a way to save my email settings, i mean not the emails or sms itself, don't care about that, but the email accounts and its settings like pop, smtp, email, exchange email, etc
because everytime i flash a new rom on my z1, i need to setup like 6 email accounts and its getting annoying. so Q2 is: is there a good way to backup those?
Q3: do i need a stripped .757 ftf?
Q4: for third party apps to have write access to my sd card, i had to install a fix for the permission.xml in .681 because google supposedly changed the required permissions, do i have to fix it in .757 too? if yes, can i use the same installer? afaik it's just adding a few lines in permission.xml, then setting the proper owner(root root) and attributes (644 was it?), so theoretically if all that installer does is replace that one file it should work right?
Q5: i purchased setCPU Pro to find out it can't set the governor and frequencies on the other cores, just on the first one. so i tried a few others and use "Multicore CPU Control Free" now, it says the free version only lets me set stuff on the first core, but it seems like i can also set the other cores and also the settings seem to work. so i am kinda satisfied, but is there a better one?
Thanks for reading and answering in advance! i am quite new to this rooting and unlocking and flashing thing....:
You need to follow the instructions in the OP of the rom.
You have not done that, that's why you are hitting problems.
Flash the .zip and then WITHOUT REBOOTING the phone flash the stripped FTF, and yes, you do need it
oh, i see, yes i did indeed boot into the rom before flashing the stripped FTF. still without the stripped FTF it seems to work fine, i have root and can run all apps requiring root.
So what exactly is the stripped FTF for?

Basicaly it installs the correct kernel without flashing user data, apps or system
The kernel has probably not changed between 681 and 757 so it will probably work without flashing that if you are coming from 681.
i see, thanks, so is there a way to keep all my settings and flash to newest version .757?

yes. if you are on 681 now just follow the instructions in the OP
wow i just flashed .757 and really didn't lose my data. i thought when i flash a another Rom it always deletes everything? Thanks!
this time i also understood correctly that after flashing 757 i had to turn off and immediatly flash the ftf. looks like no problem so far. Thanks for explaining that too!

[Q] Which is the best rom for Sony Xperia SP (May 2014)

Greetings:
Recently I've acquired my Sony Xperia SP, and since then I've tried many roms available online. Until now, I'm not convinced with every one of them. Let me to tell my story step by step:
01. First I flashed my phone's kernel from .254 to .266 using Flashtool, and then I rooted it. Aparently, I did wrong the process and it bricked. Then again I flashed it again from stock rom and did it once again the rooting process successfully. Afterwards, I installed CWM Recovery.
02. The first rom I tried was PurEXPerience sirius 3.5.0 that I read it was based on Android 4.3 and I felt my phone well, but unfortunately failed the data mobile connection (I'm paying a 4G Mobile Service) and I tried and tried but I was unable to navegate using data mobile. Even inputting an access point manually; I didn't get the 4G network back.
03. Currently I'm using a flashed 4.3 Stock rom with root properties and triple recovery installed. Using Phil'z recovery mode, I did the basic wipes (Factory Reset, Cache, Dalvik), installed rom and SU update, and finally I flashed the baseband using Flashtool. The permomance now it's been quite strange. The 4G connectivity is back, but I felt the phone's perfomance too slow and it freezes time to time, specially using the Clean Master app. Even uninstalling some useless system apps, and I don't feel ay change at all.
I'm afraid that my phone won't be able to be as fast as I felt it using its original stock rom. Is there any suggestions about a rom available online, which could be fast, best performance and that I could get 4G connectivity without problems?
Thank you so much for your time.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. The question is subjective, what's best for someone else may not be what is best for you. Best advice is to head over to the development section try some out and see which best suits your needs.

Rear camera stopped working?

Hi guys I had mentioned this in another thread but i didn't see any one make a thread about this, and i wanted to know if I'm the only one or not.
The rear camera on my brother's moto X has stopped working, opening the camera app its fixed on front facing, and the button to switch cameras is gone. He claims it happened completely randomly. I tried clearing camera cache, uninstall updates, reinstall camera app. Also tried clearing cache partition. Tried booting up in safe mode (to see if an app was causing it) and it wasn't working. Only thing I haven't tried is factory reset, which i will try before finally taking it to the at&t store.
I've found like 2 other instances on google and both were resolved by getting a new phone.
So has anyone had this happen? Also any other suggestions I can try before taking it to at&t?
I'm on latest stock 4.4.2 OTA firmware, so i guess flashing a new ROM isn't an option.

This could be a hardware issue, but you could SBF back to stock to be sure. Even though you are on 4.4.2 and BL Locked, you can still safely flash the entire 4.4.2 SBF, which will fix any corruption (if present) in your filesystem. Try a "factory reset" first, but if that doesn't fix the issue, try SBFing back to stock. A "Factory reset" can not fix a corrupted filesystem (just resets to defaults), but SBFing can.
Just find the thread titled "Return to stock". The manual method is easier and faster.
Since you will be flashing the original -signed- firmware files (stock ROM), this is possible even with a locked bootloader. Whatever you do, don't flash any version prior to 4.4.2!
The return to stock thread has links to everything you need, including the entire 4.4.2 AT&T SBF file.
Good Luck

SMS and Lollipop 5.1.1

Hello,
I rooted my phone, installed SuperSu, Xposed with Xprivacy, etc. and everything works fine. Except SMS. I didnt noticed first because I dont wirte much SMS. I read others have the same problem. But I didnt find a real solution. They reflashed or Wiped everything (not allways a success) and on my phone ohter SMS apps doesnt work neither. I dont want to setup everything again if possible.
Is there no FIX/Patch which I can flash or a simple workaround ?
Regards liqui
Flash back to 4.4.4 ( i used .93 fw ) , root and install xzdr , create a new flashable rom with prf creator 1.1 ( None Below! ) including fotakernel kernel and modem. Wipe data, do a factory reset via TWRP And flash the newly created clean rom.
Seems prf creator 1.0 wasnt able to handle the modem files... :/
Hi,
I flashed the 5.1.1 agian because I didnt want to wait. This time it works. Did nothing different then the first time

By that you mean you flashed the latest ftf via flashtool?
I'm asking because I have the same problem, except one specific third party app is working, while another doesn't.
Thanks in advance
Hangouts figures to work, but in fact it doesn't. You can recognise it by switching back to stock messaging app, then the "send" SMS are gone. The solution I gave already. That's the simplest way to fix it with Bootloader locked, otherwise root will be lost. UB devices should fix it by flashing the actually used fw by flashtool with a full wipe, flashing a kernel with including recovery. Now just flash the latest SuperSU via recovery
You are totally right, I just hoped there would be another, simpler way. But I got it working again yesterday using your advice. After a little bit of ol' try 'n error I'm convinced it had something to do with the data partition, because when I restored the TWRP-backup, SMS function was lost again, but could be recovered by another wipe. That said, I first was on a prerooted firmware created with PRFC 1.1 and latest firmware but flashed SLiM ROM by wajk over that, so I don't know if the error lay within that ROM, but I'm not in the mood to try any time soon.
Cheers
