Ok, so here's the breakdown:
I was on KK (KNOXRAID 5.1), and wanted to try a different ROM. I always like starting fresh on things, and accidentally went a little too far. I wiped /data, /system/, /cache...everything. So then I lost everything and was always stuck on "No OS installed!". Then I used the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715 to kind of restart myself.
That works ok, and now I'm on a rooted stock MJ5. My next thing was to try to get to KK again, and so I used the other guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712039. I've tried this literally about eight times, and every time I end up stuck on the boot / splash screen after finishing every single time. I really have no idea why, as I've followed the instructions exactly.
I've also tried going from a custom ROM, using different USB ports, etc...no luck.
Would someone mind pointing me in the right direction? I want to be on FireNote.
Some details:
Running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
Using OEM cable
I've attached a screenshot of my "About" screen on my current stock rooted MJ5 setup.
Thank you!!

I'm afraid I don't follow? Are you saying that there is a post somewhere in the FireNote thread where the solution is mentioned?
Firenote is based on mj5 so no need to go to kk. Just make a slot in ss then flash it there or if you're a bit of an adventurer flash it on stock slot. Just make a backup first.

Yeah...wish I would have realized that obvious fact early on. Only realized a few hours ago.
Apart from all this though, I just tried it on another computer and everything worked great. Don't know what's going on with my laptop, but the desktop worked great. Problem solved.
Thanks anyway everyone!

What version of Kingo did you try? Use 1.1.5 or 1.1.8. People have had success with that. 1.1.8 worked for me. Just Google around and you will find the download on the net somewhere.

that sucks. factory reset? ill most likely still have the issue but maybe not. isnt there a way to completely wipe the phone from the boot screen? id rather not if i dont have to.
You can try a factory reset and then root. If not there is a thread in the general section to go back to stock. Works great. I used it.

You are but we can't figure out why you can't root when others in your situation can. There is Kingo thread you can check out. Maybe you can find some answers there.

Factory Reset after the update to NB4, also go to recovery wipe cache, then try the 1.18, during the rooting process, look your phone screen, you need to click accept something twice,
I don't know how it all works terribly well but you said you still have Safestrap? Can you still install ROMs and can they have root?
Also, for when you eventually do get it working again. I recommend freezing the ATT updater. It can be awful when it eventually FORCES an update.
I got a free app called App Quarantine and froze "AT&T Software Update".

You will just have to follow the restore to MJ5 thread. The instructions are simple and very easy to follow. Go slow and follow them to the T.
What they do not mention however is do not use a 3.0 USB port. Only 2.0 will work.
Just follow that.
It is literally impossible to brick this phone to the point of it being unrecoverable. There is a tutorial to restore from hard bricks without J-Tag.

Hey graydiggy, I did the restore back to MJ5, but can't seem to get the last step for rooting to work. I tried every way with putting the rdlv on internal...unzipped and zipped. I even tried doing the same on the external sd as well. When I reboot supersu doesn't do anything. Any suggestion on how to get the last step to work?
Thanks in advance for your help.

It has to be unzipped and on the internal. You have to reboot a few times for it to activate. After the first reboot, let the phone sit for a few minutes and then reboot again. You should be good to go after that.

Wow that did the trick!!! Thanks for holding my hand lol. I hit your thanks and I appreciate your help.
So for the last month or so, I've been trying to get back to Jelly Bean on my Note 3. I'm on the Kit Kat leak, and yes I've read the threads for going back to MJ5, I've read the threads in this forum and pretty much every comment looking for answers. I've googled every combination of words I can think of, and nothing has worked. I've used the Heimdall method to restore a bricked Kit Kat Rom back to the Kit Kat leak, but now when I try to get it back to Jelly Bean, Heimdall says it fails to download package information, fails to end session packet, etc...It'll recognize my phone, get all the way to the download package, and fail.
My Note 3 isn't damaged or broken or anything so it's not like I'm in a rush, which is why I've taken my time going over all the options I've seen. However, I would like to have the official Kit Kat build when it gets released or at least re-root my phone and for the time being I haven't found a way to do either...
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
The restore method worked for me, coming from the KNOXRAID Kit Kat version--restored successfully to MJ5.
Are you able to flash that version (Knoxraid), then try the restore?
Edit: Heimdall took me a few tries, along with odin. Had to switch from usb3 to usb2 to even get it to be recognized.

The op states that heimdal will not finish. You have to check no reboot and yank the battery and boot into recovery to flash your zips. Every time I do it l, heimdal quits at 95 percent. I've used this method at least a dozen times without fail.
i understand but it fails before even 1% is shown...ive used the method before so i am aware of the 95% that is mentioned in the op but this time nothing happens...i hit start and about 10 seconds later it fails

That's happened to me before. I just hit start again and it worked. Try it a few times.
Also, one time I couldn't get anything to work and I switched the USB cable I was using. Usb3 gave me that 1% error, but usb2 worked like a charm.

You need to make sure your boot stack and radios are appropriate for the rom you want to flash. The G2 ROM scene is a bit fractured, since CM11 and a good chunk of derivative ROMs are still based on the 12B (4.2) OTA, but some devs are now working with the 24A (4.4) OTA.
If you can get into the bootloader/fastboot, you may be able to flash the appropriate boot stack and recovery from there, if you know what you're doing. The "cleaner" route would be to use TOT or KDZ to get back to stock, and start from scratch.

If you can't get into recovery, and only download mode, I'd probably go ahead and return to complete stock. The nice thing about this phone is it is easily rooted and rommed again if you want to do that. Plus you'll learn a lot in the process. My two cents.
Edit: When you return to stock, take the Ota to 4.4.2, then root.

Hi I have an A&TT S900A. I just installed Unity Rom and upon reboot all is the S-5 Boot screen without ever getting to safestrap. How can I fix this?
I can tell you the same thing hapenned to me and going back to stock was my only option. The only thing to remember here though is that the file to odin back to stock will wipe everything off your internal memory, so you should probably make a back up of your internal memory first if you can. Good luck man.

Thanks a lot. I don't see an Odin return to stock thread specific to this model, so I assume it's pretty standard and will look for just a general walk through online.
ok odin worked fine, now to try if I can get this rom to install again... Thanks for the help!

We're a bit over the average update interval... Perhaps that's an indication that 6.0.1 will be next (hopefully)?
i flashed the sam mobile file to return to stock, the phone rebooted and the samsung logo with no sound. It gets to tmobile white screen and thats it. Nothing else happens. Im letting it sit to see if it will boot up eventually. I have double checked the firmware that I downloaded, it is correct. Any ideas please
I'm always a little bemused by people who go to all the effort of modding their device, downloading the stock firmware then installing it then finally posting they're having issues yet could avoid it all by simply spending 3 minutes making a full backup with TWRP first.
Not directed at anyone but just an observation that seems to happen time and time again.
First of all the stock firmware is flashed via Odin. A back up does no good. It wipes twrp and replaces stock recovery. So, what are you saying? I should have made a backup in twrp then flashed stock firmware and put stock recovery on device so I could recover. Roflmao
Some people post without fully reading the post. Not directed at anyone just an observation.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
Secondly, I have a FULL BACKUP on external sd card. I tried to reinstall twrp and root and reflashing. I still get to white splash screen and sits there for hours.
People should ask before being smart asses.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
Umm... Actually, if you install TWRP right after Odin, you can make a backup without root. Bone stock, fresh from Odin. Then you can restore and go from there if rooting turns out bad. Or whatever.
Just saying
Sent from my LGLS990 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Refer to post 4. Read people. Read. I wanted to go back to stock. 100% no twrp. Wow. So I flashed the firmware to go to completely stock. I had back up of stock Rom BEFORE ROOT ON EXTERNAL AND COPIED TO PC. Just in case.
Wow. So much for helping hands in this bunch.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
Temper temper lad.
If you had made a backup (which is suggested) when you first installed TWRP, you could have restored it and been fine.
Now the Odin that someone has already pointed you to, has gone wrong for some reason. That's up to you to figure out.
But, when you Odin'd the correct file, did you wipe all 4 first? Or do a factory reset, then Odin?
Try that and see what happens. Odin only wipes the /system and any remenants or problems will remain unless you clear them.
Edit: /data doesn't get wiped in Odin. Also, if you factory reset, backup your int sd or you'll lose your files.

Wow quoted ME twice. I am popular.
For your info, if you'd have made a full backup with TWRP first before making any mods you wouldn't be in this situation.
All you need do is restore it then flash the stock recovery.img with twrp.
That would put you back to bone stock.
All done without needing ODIN at all.
Also there are many happy flash noobs who read these posts and the previous comment was directed at them.
Don't take it personally.
