I was thinking of purchasing this phone.
I was wondering...since most android phones (and iPhone now) can do this.
If you are receiving a call, is there an option to either decline call or reject the call and then immediately send a text message?
Can I get a picture of this if possible?
Thank you

Thank you! One more quick question. I heard the camera constantly autofocuses. Is that true? From what I read, the camera actually takes some brilliant pictures...and the image stabilization for both still shots and video is quite good.
Thoughts?
Thanks again

The camera did autofocus all the time but it was fixed in the update that was released yesterday. I like the camera, I think it is pretty good.

So LG released an OTA that fixed constant autofocus?
Nice!
What about the video? Does the update address that?

One of my last hang ups on getting the Nexus 6 is how it will handle notifications. I know it will have Ambient Display, but from what I have been able to read, its not going to pulse like the Active Display of the normal Moto phones. Has anyone seen how the Nexus 6 will handle notifications yet?
This is exactly what I'm trying to find out, i keep checking all the unboxing and first hands on video and reviews
and they just keep talking about the size, specs and camera, i might have to pass on this nexus if it doesn't pulse in some form, i just can always keep picking up my phone check for a message.
Yep. If it doesn't pulse or blink or something, it will be a poor choice. Knowing you have a notification from across the room or in a dark room, is one of the things I like about 95% of Android phones.
The last phone I had without an LED light was the GS2, and I had to use other means.
It seems like such a simple request for anyone with the phone to check as well. Every unboxing and first impressions video I have watched (far too many) have all said that "it has moto x like notifications and that's a good thing" but every time they show the settings it doesn't indicate that it pulses or breathes. I was hoping that DL would have answered this question when they got their test units, but even they haven't yet.
I'm pretty sure Google knows it's silly to send a visible notification only once. I'm confident they've incorporated some form of pulse or renotification of some kind. Fingers crossed
In any case if it is or not just remember this. ITS A SOFTWARE FEATURE.
I mean come on guys, we are XDA. If its not perfect I am sure one or some of us here will be able to modify the feature to allow whatever we want. The feature is baked into 5.0 android now and is Open, all we have to do is work on a expanded settings system to customize it if it already does not have one. Hell if Xposed gets properly ported to ART we can surely see a module for it!
Stop acting like its the end of the world if it does/doesn't have the exact feature of software design as the Moto X. Its a software feature and if demand needs it I am sure we will find a way to make it happen. Have faith in XDA and the Developers.

Its definitely not the end of the world. I'm not being dramatic and condemning the phone if it doesn't have it. Just looking for an answer to what I hope Google realizes is a basic need. I've been rooting and roming since the OG Droid days here so I know what XDA can do, I just don't believe this is a feature that I should need to rely on the Devs here to create.
First of all, it's something you can turn off. So if it doesn't work the way you want it to you don't have to use it.
Google is also pushing Android Wear which makes anything like Moto Display (ie Active Display) pointless cause you can see it on your wrist faster anyway.

Or want to. I really have no desire to spend $250 on a watch that I have to replace every couple years because it becomes obsolete or the battery is well beyond is usefully life.

The battery on the G watch is really great actually.
And if you don't want Android wear, don't buy it. But that's where Google is going so some features that used to be present on phones that aren't as necessary now will potentially be removed.
Ambient display on N6 works similar to Moto X. It will pulse when the notification arrives. After that it will pulse every few minutes, in an adaptive time period - the longer you don't pick it up, the period between pulses will increase.
And of course custom rom's will be able to tweak this, I hope.

Does anyone know if it has the IR sensors on the screen to wake the display up with a hand gesture just like it happens on the Moto X?

Seems very unreliable, he had to try multiple times. Also why is pick up to activate so unreliable?
I really wish they'd copied the Moto version and added the sensors.
this seems like it will just nuke the battery in comparison to an LED.... I may end up just leaving this off.
won't this turn on constantly in a pocket as well?
Now that Moto is making a version of the Nexus 6 but with their software for China will it be possible to port moto assist/moto voice and display? It would be great if we could get these feature on the Nexus 6 and since this is identical in every way except for it not saying Nexus and having motos software tweaks.

No, the Moto ones are much better. Goto a carrier store and try Moto voice and display and then let me know if you still think they are the same. Ambient display isn't as good as the Moto one, and google now is nice (and used with moto voice) but you can't use custom commands with it.
My favorite thing about my wife's moto x is to be able to twist the phone twice to activate the camera. Theres some other cool features she has that I don't but that is by far my favorite

The twist to activate camera is cool, I really like the moto display because its a better version of the ambient display on the Nexus even though the Moto has both. I wouldn't trade my Nexus for the Moto, I just want the Moto tweaks. I do like the voice commands and how you can make up any phrase to activate it (which can be funny sometimes depending on what you use)

Most of the internet agrees that ambient display is far nicer than motorola, actually showing you the notification instead of just the fact that there is one.
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/11/0...-display-is-a-very-cool-take-on-moto-display/
What they say about not being able to use sensors (proximity/IR/motion) to refresh the ambient display is.... not entirely true. AOSP 5 does have ALL of this provision in the source code, but it has to be activated with an appropriate sensor (if available).
As for custom commands with google now... you really should look into this more, since there *are* ways to do that with google now. For example, tasker with autovoice.
As far as the quality of voice dictation goes, the google implementation (which probably uses the same backend) is pretty solid... as far as voice recognition goes.

I understand where you are coming from but some people including myself prefer the Moto display. I don't care if I can't gesture over it, I just like the way the Moto Display looks compared to the ambient one. If it could work without the added sensors (which it will since the X Pro will likely have this) then I'm fine with that.
I know there are ways to implement the custom voice commands, however its more natural the way that its done on the X. I have tried some other alternatives but I wasn't a fan of them. The Nexus 6 has a low power chip for active listening if I recall correctly so this shouldn't be a issue if and when we can port those features over.
I also wouldn't say that the "majority of people prefer the ambient display" we can't generalize things like that because after all statistics can be very bias and wrong if they are not collected correctly. I have seen reviews including AP (android police) who stated they liked the Moto version better, but again its user preference.
I'm not saying you are wrong at all, I would just prefer the Moto tweaks on my Nexus phone because I like them.

I'm mostly on board with you. I like the ambient display looks vs moto display but I wish the screen wouldn't light up fully when interacting with the notification. In my opinion it totally defeats the purpose of having it black and white. Ambient display is inconsistent in which sometimes it doesn't come up. Moto display is the better functioning of the two.

Don't forget moto display with moto assist has a night mode which went light up the screen when you're sleeping or in a movie. Of course you could use priority notifications but this is more convenient in my opinion.

I am using an app that is still in beta called "QuickCamera". I have been using it since the Nexus 5, and it seems to work pretty well on the Nexus 6. As a matter of fact, the camera opens up much faster on the N6 than the N5 did.

Neither removed it. You have to sign up with the community, then click on the link to join the beta, and wait for it to show up for you in the Play Store (some show up in minutes, one or two took over an hour to show up after joining both). This is how pretty much all of betas through the Play Store are handled. I just checked and put screenshots attached to this post.

I have always thought I have seen a bit of artifacting on this display, but I am not sure a new phone will fix it. Moto, of course, wants to send a new phone.
Would some of you please download the png at http://soletc.com/stuff/yuk.png and look at it on your Moto X. Do you see a smeared area between the icon on the far right and the one in the same row on the left? Something similar to this...

I have these. Most visible at low brightness and yellowish-white backgrounds.
I don't see them, neither at low or high bright, zoom in or zoom out.
Yes, the smeared area is visible on my Moto as well. I downloaded the png and that zone is clearly visible, for my eyes at least.

There's very little point in exchanging your phone over this. It's an odd software issue present on the 2 previous X's I've had and will probably be present on the third when it arrives sometime this week. If you look closely into the line you can probably make out the image of the android soft keys in it. When I first got the phone I thought it was odd burn in but if you rotate the phone the back button rotates too so it seems to be a software issue, possibly with the screen driver. I find the best way to see it is to open something with a white background that's not too busy like settings and dial the brightness down. If you look close enough you'll see it. Just seems Moto is using fairly iffy panels in a number of the phones. Of course this may be a different issue altogether but normally when I see weird lines across my screen that's what it is
Here's a video showing the issue in the new Photos app...

I just got my unit. I can get a spining white ring on the front facing camera when I lift to wake with face unlock, but I can not find the option to turn it on for phone calls and messages etc.... I get edge lighting for 10 seconds or so.. I would love to have this option as I saw it active on a random video but I cant find the video again... I am fully updated with the software as well... does anybody have any ideas or know how to enable this feature? Thx!
Not a feature (yet) we all hope that Samsung will do it...
On reddit the consensus is this is a feature that would be in a future update. I saw screenshots from Samsung support confirming this.

The options he gave are still helpful for now though, as not only can you enable the rear flash, but the front screen to flash yellow when you receive a message. It's something at least for now. I just hope Samsung pushes out an update to enable the ring around the camera to be used. Just makes total sense since they removed the LED notification. :fingers-crossed:

An update got pushed to my S10e just a bit ago. Might be the one you wanted?
Circle of Light does not exist. The only thing that exist is the possibility as this is the actual screen and not any special hardware. The same edge lighting like concept can be used to illuminate pixels around the camera. If samsung does not do something, let them release the source and give us access to api's. we can do it ourselves. We just need to modify the edge lighting feature to shrink it to camera cutout and increase timings etc. I am feeling so lost without the notification LED. My pre order does not have a cancellation option. If I had I would have cancelled.
Will the ring light has potential burn in risk?
Should be. If you closely take a look at the camera cutout and the front camera animation, you'd see it's a part of the actual screen. So, It have amoled burn in risk unless or if samsung can access the pixels through hardware directly without actually turning on the whole screen.
