What launcher do u use? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
So, i think u know all, that the sony stock launcher, is great, buuut kinda slow, even with custom rom, i think Nova is more responsive.
But i got a bit tired by this 'classic' (but really good quality) launcher.
I dont want to install launchers like 3D launcher (which is cool, but drain battery like hell).
What do u use for launcher? something a bit new
And btw, is it possible to install a launcher not sony related? (other brand, like motorolla i mean, if i found .apk on xda website)

Third party launchers and/or TouchWiz

I've been a LauncherPro user for many years now, and as such I've stuck with it on my Note. However, due to the "laggy" app-drawer opening animation, I've had to disable that completely (so that the drawer opens immediately).
I believe that pretty much ALL third-party launchers suffer from stuttering in some way or another. Does anyone actually know WHY this is the case on the Note? Its not ROM specific.
The alternative is to just use TouchWiz, which I am 100% keen on doing, except for ONE little problem. 90% of Android widgets are 4 columns wide, and there is no way to resize widgets with TouchWiz.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions? I get the feeling that most people stick with TouchWiz, so I'd love to know what you do about the 4 column limitation.

No problem
I have tried most of the available launchers. The one i am most happy with at the moment is spb shell 3d, its not cheap. But when in tablet mode, looks great on the note. The widgets really make use of the screen resolution.
The only issue is there is no ability to alter the row/column count. Which in tablet mode has a count of 8. Which is a little high for the screen size of the note.
I have emailed the Developers of spb shell 3d and they have told me a update will be available soon.
Just my opinion
Thanks. I wish there was a way to test SPB before buying.
Are you able to resize widgets with SPB?

Yeah, you can resize all the widgets. It is a shame there is no trial

what ROM/kernel are you using? or maybe it's because I use too many widgets?

There is, but not one that I could ever recommend
I admit I tried it and found it very wanting. I only did it for the trial, because the cost was so high. I am glad I did, as I found it very wanting on my device. Others seem faster to me.
I use ssLancher. It has a very different approach, and everything is customisable. I also use a separate app launcher and Folder Organiser, leaving me 'free' from the app organisation that most launchers pin on you. That allows me to play with more with less effort.
go launcher is good because you can use ICS theme.
But this stupid launcher removes ICS animation ! (returns Gingerbread stock)
I hope new update (4.0) will bring for us more then just a nice shell.

No matter what Kernel/ROM I use, every single launcher lags noticeably. I never had this problem with my previous phones (Atrix, Defy+, SGS2). And yes, I'm and advanced user so I know how to optimize the OS.
I just stuck to ADW EX, selecting the Fast interface and setting drawing cache to low quality. It lags but it's way less than Launcher Pro, GO and SS Launcher.
Hope this gets fixed on ICS.

ADW Launcher EX rly nice low on memory and alot of customizations possibilities.
Mmhhnnnnnn
I agree, I tried lots of launchers and IMO ADW EX is the best one!
It should be amazing one day to get anything equal to the Sense interface as Launcher (NO SPB Shell is not as good as Sense), don't you think so? I love it on HTC

I used to use Launcher Pro back in the day, but TBH, I consider it to be dead now; the developer hasn't made any changes to ver 0.8.6 for almost a year now... I think it's abandoned.
I use ADW EX, and it's pretty decent!

when I bought my SGS i9000 i didn't know much about android, now I now a little, I love my SGS but Samsung leaves that phone a little, if you want touchwiz you must install an .apk -.-' there won't be official ICS for that phone, and i'm a bit bored about SGS Ginger.... and I'd like test Sense, cuz I'm thinking buy a HTC phone
Looking in the development section might be a good place to start.........

If you're a bit bored of you launcher i'd get a custom launcher off the market like Go Launcher EX (free and offers pretty much everything), or Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher - which come in free and paid varieties and also offer the same thing.
Go launcher has some fantastic in built widgets, plus a whole host of useful features like a built in task killer, multiple docks, changeable icons loads of transition animations. All for free. Sense really has nothing on that and its more of a battery hog, plus it'd be a lot harder to use, what with sense being for HTCs and so there isnt much call on it for SGS

Okay well that's fair enough, good luck with finding a good sense ROM, i realy dont know of any to suggest,
I'm not sure if the SGS even has any Sense ROMs, but from what I understand, it's no easy task to port Sense onto a non-HTC device

New to Galaxy Note & need some Tips if possible....

Just recieved the note this morning and although iam not new to android or thos forum, its quite different to my old HTC desire. so i have a few questions!
I cant stand the stock launcher that comes with samsung so i have changed it to the go launcher so is their anyone out their better, or do you need to root to do that?
Also wanted to know if their are any good things to download to customise my phone, i have been using my blackberry for awhile so iam pretty unsure lol.
i might decide to root but is it worth it just yet?
cheers folks. hope someone can give me some pointers, the phone is huge, but i love the screen. i was abit paranoid as i always looked at samsung as kinda boring, im just glad the phone can be customised.
cheers.
New to android?
I always used launcher pro on my gingerbread based roms.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fede.launcher&hl=en
My note is coming today, so I haven't tried it with the larger screen.
Running an ICS rom I like the stock trebuchet launcher just fine.
hey
Naw im not new to android but its been a while since i have used it as a phone as i dont use my htc desire anymore. i have using the annoying blackberry.
launcher pro is fast and works well with some good live wallpapers.
what is ICS rom? also was your phone rooted
A lot of launchers have some degree of lag when used on the Note. Go Launcher and ADW Launcher were a little choppy on my Note. I've used LauncherPro Plus for a long time on my Galaxy S and LG Optimus 3D but I think it's getting a bit outdated since it hasn't been updated in a long time.
I'm using Nemus Launcher at the moment and it runs very smooth. It's not the most customizable launcher out there but all my basic needs are there, custom grid size, resizable widgets, maps etc. and it looks pretty good as well.
Thanx for the tip...just tried the one you mentioned and it works very fast on the note! and i noticed you can actually move the icons like the phone symbol and so forth....even better. I just hate the stock rom of samsung, just ugli icons, i always like to dress it up. Now to download phone icon and the other ones, do i have to download these separetly?

Thanks for sharing that, Nemus Launcher is indeed very good. Have tried Go and AWD, but find the simple yet polished look of Nemus better.

One of the smoothest launchers - Lightning Launcher

I tried almost all available launchers, but none was smooth with demanding Live Wallpaper, until I tried this Lightning Launcher:

Indeed, this launcher seems to be the smoothest I've ever tryed. What I don't like about it is that the dock icons are so ugly, and the icons seems a bit low quality.

There is much room to improve, but smoothness is top-notch. I hope it will break through beta stage soon :silly:
It is just fast like lightning for sure. Of course it is still beta and for me not my daily launcher still using nova but I am sure that next will improve and it needs work but yeah it is fast. If it becomes a full fledged launcher and is still that fast I will certainly use it all the time. And an idea app drawer also vertical scrolling please, thanks. Keep up the work. It is promising.

After been using this launcher for a while I have to admit, it sucks.
Don't know if the latest update fu**** it up, but the phone was useless. Extremely slow, couldn't answer phonecalls because it didn't respond. Keyboard was laggy etc..
Was great at the beginning...

MIUI Launcher is surprisingly fast and smooth. Smoother than Apex/Nova but not as smooth as stock laucher.
It's a little iphone-ish with its lack of app drawer. But you can create an app drawer by creating a folder, place it on the dock and put all your apps in the folder.
The selection of available themes/icons is pretty nice.

I'm not joking. Nope. Nope.
Stock LG launcher is smoother than most 3rd party launchers I've tried (Apex, Nova, Go Launcher, ADW, Holo, Nemus etc.) They're all fine launchers and most have more customization options. But the animation in stock launcher is smoother and seems to have higher fps (if that is the right term). The other launchers seem more jittery, like it's skipping a few frames. MIUI Launcher is the only one I've tested that seems closest in terms of smoothness. If I've got time and can be arsed, I'll make a video.
You guys should give iLauncher a try. Perfect way copy of the iOS 6.

I noted the Android System battery percentage rise from under 5% to nearly 14% with the use of this launcher for about an hour and playing around with it.
I am back to stock launcher now, and the Android system percentage has reduced to 11% in the past one hour or so.
Possibly ones it is out of beta, its battery requirement may also be optimized.

I don´t care if some people are attached to "launcher" LOL , I care about smooth user experience (lag when swipe pages on home-app screen should be considered as a serious flaw regarding UX).

I installed the Xperia T launcher a few days ago, and I admit that I love it. So much more functionality and personalization in comparison to the default launcher and I prefer it's appearance much better. Although the default launcher wasn't that bad, this is superior by far! And I've replaced, as you can imagine, the default launcher! In addition, I downloaded and installed a Glass HD icon pack and it looked fine, so I suppose that the resolution plays an important part!
Ha, great.....
I have the Acro S from Sony and i use the LG UI 3 Launcher...
It is the best Launcher of all Stock Launchers.
