Who is your provider? I'm either getting the optimus g or xperia tl depending on dev support and battery life for the two.

Depends on what you desire in a phone. LTE, Durability, Design, Support, Custom rom support, Screen resolution/PPI, Battery life etc. etc.
I come from a history of HTC phone and I always liked them because they feel more durable. Also, the dev support is very high on HTC and Samsung. When you go for power, you should definitely look at Samsung S3, HTC One X(+) or the new LG Optimus G. Also, if you're interested in getting the latest Android updates, you should keep an eye on the Google (LG) Nexus 4.
I must say that I took a risk in choosing for Sony. The dev support is relatively low and I didn't like their Q1 2012 models Xperia S, U and P. This because I heard negative stories about the battery life, the outdated hardware, the lack of proper support etc. Yet, I must say that I never had a smartphone that operates this smooth, and the battery life is better than HTC's Q4 2011 phones. I own my phone for a couple of days now and I like it more and more.
When I was in Indonesia this summer, the Acro S caught my eye and I have been looking out for the release of the European brother of that phone: the Sony Xperia V. The specs are promising, I like Sony Timescape (more than for example HTC Sense or Samsung Touchwiz) and it promises to be a solid phone (it should be dust and water resistant).
To summarize it all. Keep a lookout on comparization websites, such as phonearena. You can easily compare up to three phones there.
If you really don't know what to pick, I can only recommend to stick with the Nexus releases. You are interested in Android for some reason
Check out my phone list in signature, I can't wait to get myself this xperia t

Dev support for samsung (at least on the aosp/cm front) will drop, samsungs ****ing around with sources, broken code and producing a mess in general is driving devs away. HTC is obviously locking bootloaders in its more recent models and is enforcing less dev-friendly techniques, so dev support will remain strong but it wont beas much fun to "work" with as htc used to be. LG produces **** hardware, I heard. And their custom android implementation isnt that shiny either, I heard (lol, I hear a lot, obviously ). Leaves Sony, which is overall well, behaving goog from a dev perspective and the hardware is ok, good even, albeit not highest top tier. In terms of updates theres rom for improvement. So as the ultimate last, a Nexus device. Latest android, always. Excellent dev support. But limited storage and no expansion possibilities. Make your choice.

If you want a more neutral ICS experience with some great Sony add ons (Walkman, etc.) and like the idea of 13MP photos go for the Xperia T.
If you want top spec and more grunt the S3 is a bit more powerful but you get TouchWiz and Samsung's stamp on it all. Also, the S3 has a much richer selection of custom ROMs.
Personally, lack of SD slot would put me off the OneX before I even opened the box.

I agreed with almost everything you said but this. I am no expert, but I think the major problem isn't hardware... it's their support / drivers/ software. I owned a G2x, and hardware wise it was a treat. However, it was hampered by the lack of source (which has been rectified in the last week or so I believe) code and the NVIDIA drivers for it. Their latest incarnation, the G, is very nice on paper, but alas, it will likely suffer the same fate, which is why the Nexus 4 looks so tempting. Hell, Google trusts their hardware, they just wanted to make a phone everyone would want AND possibly afford. Unlocked no less!
I have sent my T back for repairs, I had some audio stuff go south. That said, I really like that Sony offers the option to unlock bootloaders. I like the feel of the phone and the speed. HTC burned a bridge with me and my Amaze (also just released source code for their WIFI / BT drivers IIRC), so I went Sony, and am not sorry that I did.
EDIT: Oh yea, and the Sony take on ICS is really quite nice. Not bloated, most of the apps I actually WANT to use, and it's well designed IMHO.
Thx everyone =)

No regrets, You have done a good choice, I have TX too, I'm happy with: elegant design, removable battery (very important), SD card slot, good benchmarks, even better compared with phones with quad core processor, a very good 13 Mp camera, easy to unlock, Sony developpers friendly.
Bad: few custom roms, slow process updating, Hope more from developpers.
Previous phones: a lot of Nokia flagships (finished with), and in the last 2 years:Xperia X10, Xperia S and now a beautiful Xperia TX, all unlocked and rooted.
Now got the t, little disappointed with the development level for the phone but the phone it self is ok, not great but ok I guess

Hi ,
A few weeks back i had posted about choosing an Xperia S vs Xperia ION and thanks to the community i was able to choose the ION but now the xperia T and TX are available in the Indian ebay site. I was 100% sure of getting the xperia T but then i saw the issues of the paint peeling off which really made me unsure of what to do. I could just get the TX to avoid this and i'm not sure when the xperia V will be available. Upcoming xperia Z is beyond my budget ( I've got sour grapes syndrome for nexus 4 )
Like i mentioned because i will be getting the xperia T off ebay ( i do get the bill and 6 months warranty) i'm not sure Sony will respond to my qualms of the paint peeling. On the other hand the seller has mentioned for the TX that warranty will not cover any sony update issue. So should i go for the xperia TX instead or just get my hands on an xperia V?
The main things i'm looking for are :
- Better screen ( i'm guessing all the 3 have the same)
- Better Battery
- Better community / dev support for roms and issues.
Regards,
Rishi

Here both are HSPA+
I cannot vote as I have only seen the T.
If you have read any of my posts, you will know that I am not impressed by the compression applied to the photos. Worse than previous non Android SEs and worse than HTC, Samsung and Apple (probably worse than LG too!)
Xperia V
I use the V and it's the best Android phone I've ever tried. Slick, responsive, no crashes, can mulitask without crashes, and has the LTE (4G) speed as well. But then Sony released the Z with a better screen solution I guess.

agree what you said, just change the external SD card,
I want to buy this phone (T). I think of "ONLY" 1GB of ram.
There's already 3GB producing in factories. So...bit worried.
Can somebody (T,TX,V) tell me about ram usage. Do you really need more or you feel this is enough on your phone?

Yesterday i went electronic shop, and tried the xperia v, i was a bit shocked by the feeling. for me it feels unsexy, compared to my T. Dont get me wrong, its a good phone, but the Xperia T has an oustanding look and feel for me. I like my handy to be a bit more heavy and tough. also i like its some sort of "wide".i also prefer xperia T screensize/ relation screensize-smartphonesize
So for me its T, compared to V.
And by the way, the power is enough for todays technic. You dont need higher and higher and higher, more more more....for what?
I can get a T here in germany for 270euro, new, first hand. So i think its a really sexy price for such phone. Sure, many phones better in Benchmarks and Hardware. But lets be serious, who cares much Benchmarks, or who needs so much power?
Everybody who not like to spend 500euro for a phone, should look for it, or Nexus 4
by the way...Everybody who wants buy a new phone should go inside a shop and play with the handy in the hands, feel it. dont just look in forums or youtube hands-ons

It is brilliant, so brilliant that I moved to this from my Nexus 4. Sony UI is something I can live with for a very long time due to everything being minimalistic and close to stock but better than stock in every way. If I wanted better development I would move back to Nexus 4 in a heart beat but I don't think I will ever go back to Nexus.

Its so bad that this device hasnt got the attention it deserves. I have pm krabbapel and he said he was going to make his carbon rom in the future, and doomlord said he didnt have the device so he wont be developing for it
FXP are already developing an CM rom for the ZR so this is a good start
I do agree even though SONY has its flagship Z1 Z and Z ultra, this is the sleeping giant workhorse that they need to highlight.

Same here, I came from a Galaxy Nexus (Nexus S, Nexus One, and HTC G1 before that) and although I prefer stock Android, it lacks so many features. I found Sony's UI clean and refreshing without trying too hard. I haven't found a need to root this baby yet. My ZR on 4.1 does way more than my GNexus on 4.3 (minus the root features of course) out of the box. The small apps and killer camera are the icing on the cake. With that said, I like Sony's design and UI that I'm willing to upgrade my nexus 7 to an Xperia Tablet Z in the near future.

It might be a long shot, but it was successfully done with the Oppo find 5 and the Faux Kernal...(I think!)
What they did was organise a donation fund to get Faux the phone...after that he was happy to develop his kernal for the phone.
Perhaps you could give Doomlord a poke to see if he would be willing to accept such a thing and then ask the ZR community to take part? (Or maybe ask the ZR people first to see if they would do it...then see if Doomlord would accept...)
Random idea, could work...

xperia sp forum members donated funds to doomlord, and he developed for xSP maybe you could ask him first if he's on to the idea
+1.
Nice idea for our future.
I remember DoomLord replied that he probably won't be developing for XZR since he doesn't own the device.
Not sure if donation can help that though...
with such good specs at a low price i dont get why this is a low activity device...:crying:
yeah.. i think we can blame sony itself for this problem... I really like the ZR and I have it now.. been so satisfied with it... but, yeah, too few development.. and it will get only worst because sony will be launching the z1 mini.. which is really comparable to the zr... sony is trying to follow samsung - flooding the market with too many models that are closely similar to one another..
if someone heads up a donation box for Doomlord for him to buy the zr, I would gladly donate 50 dollars...

its not available everywhere, if this continues (very few users and low development) the device will end up like the acro S look at the Acro S forums+ the fact that almost no RC or RD or RT are present in XZR forum makes it more likely that development will die after fxp supports ends

there's 4 page development on Acro S! It's not much but still for a phone that expensive yet doesn't seem to have any great hardware it's quite much developments!
but for this phone that runs smoothly and better comparing to Xperia Z, ZL and has less size and less resolution (about 1/4 times which makes battery run double times) and less mass I think this device get fairly low attention comparing to others!! even for a developer this one must be much more exciting than Xperia Z!

sort of, however, sony priced the zr as if a flagship. truth to be told, it's marketed as a flagship in japan (xperia a), and it's no slug. still, with the relatively small price difference between z and zr, it's easy to see why people will get the z instead. the z is also released 6 month earlier.
besides, zr isn't released in as many markets as z.
as i've said before, since zr shares much with z, as long as development for z is there, zr will likely be supported as well, but without a dedicated dev using zr him/herself, it's hard to picture a very good development environment.
unless sony discount the zr significantly very soon. this is likely to continue.
(before you ask, japanese seem to have their own commnity and aren't participating in xda, so their large nos. mean nothing to us)
Why worry.. as long as there is Z development, we can port almost EVERYTHING to ZR (including ROM's an Kernels)
One more reason is that people who do contribute are not thanked properly I think.
totally agree
well i had a few devices before and now i have htc one s S4, galaxy s4, xperia ZR, iphone 5
before xperia ZR between all of my phone i would stand and say htc one s and iphone 5 have best batteries between my devices, between xperia x8, xperia acro S, Xperia go, xperia V, galaxy S3, iphone 5, galaxy s4, but now i can say ZR beat my one S battery and not only on battery it beats the battery on my one s it beats the performance of S4 it beats the options of all of my previous xperia phones, and when it comes to heat it even beats the hell out of my iphone too it hardly produce any heat in my hands specially compared to xperia V and galaxy s4.
this is an amazing device guys no doubt about it but why were we looking for development in the first place? when we had good hardware and sh**** software with cra*** software support we would come here and look for help, but we still have updates and support and this device is almost (not fully) complete it doesnt need overclock it doesnt need more battery saving options it doesnt need so much bug fixes.
the only thing it need is a better front camera which is impossible with firmware and kernels so most of all a few ports and customizations remains which is not totally important right?
when i first had my xperia acro S it didnt have any custom firmware for a very long time the only thing was available = rooting my device! believe me for a very long time it was like this.
so my advice is to take your time guys relax if something came out use it if not dont be disappointed you wont miss so much you still have a great device with so many good things on it.

This is EXACTLY why I'm still on locked BL! but anyway our device has lack of roms like Cyanogen Mod, AOSP, PAC MAN, AOSPA (Paranoid) and also bug free miui port! (which I like Pranoid and miui so much) I'm currently working on a port for miui (stock based one) but this is something hard to get! currently I'm getting bootloop at kernel and as I don't want to unlock my bootloader (I love BE2 ) it's really hard to get it booting, and I'm not sure if any developer wants to contribute or if I get any further than this but I'm trying to make it bookable at least
EDIT: good news is I just saw the miui boot screen, bad news is it's not more than 2 sec and still I don't have adb
EDIT: Do you guys have made or downloaded any rom based on stock 4.2.2? would you mind give me updater-script in your zip file /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script

EDIT: another good news is, got logcat ( have permission problems ) it would be great if anyone can give me an updater-script from downloaded or made stock rom (both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 are welcome) please pm me
After almost two years of owning the Xperia Z1, I was thinking of an upgrade, so I was asking this question to you, ladies and gentlemen, do you think it's a worthy upgrade to go to Xperia Z3+?
I know about the heat issues with Snapdragon 810 chipset, and I wanted to stress the fact that I don't game on my mobile, and I will not use the 4K on the Z3+ much at all.
Or do you think I should rather wait for a new Xperia iteration?
I have the same thoughts because I had the Z1 for almost 2 years. I decided to stay on the Z1 and wait for Z5 or another phone... The fact is: for that money, the Snapdragon 810 is not worth it!
And there is Sir Venkat Kamesh with his GREAT Rockroms... I had about 11 phones now and his ROMs are the best and I think he is going to provide updates till Android M. And yes, Sony will release Android M for Z1.
And after all, its still a very nice and fast phone
Absolutely agree with you. Z1 still good phone, hardware is not out of date, design - classic never die , sony`s lifetime of product also beyond praise. I'll wait for a new model, Z5 or something like that.
Indeed, the Z1 has a classic lovely design, and I cared about this phone a lot, as good as new, no scratches or scuffs, never dropped. But I am getting a bit frustrated about Lollipop update, phone feeling a bit sluggish, lots of redraws, pretty bad battery life; and all these after a factory reset, too.
And I am in a bit of a tight spot too, since I switched from Windows-based laptop to a Macbook Pro, and I don't think I can flash any custom ROM's on a Mac?
Still, ArmadiloDS, could you post a link for those ROM's of Venkat Kamesh, just to have a look? Thanks a lot!

Yes you can use flash tool on a Mac. I have been using one since i got the phone, two years ago.
May I add, I am also not upgrading next month, as this phone still kicks ass. Apart from the battery life on 5.0.2. Which is completely ****, even after a factory reset and stock install.
Gets below 50% and almost instant drop to naught.

You're a power user. Can the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro (Redmi K30 Pro) keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro (Redmi K30 Pro). A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
At two months later from launching, there isn't any active dev project for this beauty. Very sad!
Yeh.....device three partially hidden.... Impossible to do anything
But even q/a section is dead... And no complains... Must be low demand for Poco
It's mind blowing, with these specs for that price I'd imagine the dev scene would be thriving like it did for the first F1.

But the support we are getting is almost none existant....
I came out of era galaxy s1... When chainfire started developing su....and we had 30 roms easy... I swear i was flashing the phone twice a day... And it took 30 min each... Not like now..
Here at this stage...all we have is a hope...that some developer will get his hands on poco.... And do the magic....

Source code being partially hidden....
No kernel no development...we need to wait till its done.....
Nothing wrong with phone but nobody is going to build a rom from scratch for free...so we need to wait for the structure to be released

Yes...common practice nowadays.... So they unique software can not be copied or ammended immediately after release.
Even samsung does it sometimes.... Hide parts....
Android is open source....aka they hide only bits...but important bits....
Again...we have to wait..sooner or later they will disclose it

Well this is worrisome.. hopefully there's still hope for good ROM developers create one for this device. Was buying because of the track record of poco F1 thriving community, didn't expect this at all. :fingers-crossed:

And we got it. It's good, is working and without official support... What means 'official' in out times? Is any custom rom, twrp, custom kernel is 'official'? Interesting discussion can be, racja ?

We got a chinese TWRP. This means it's not open source and can't mount system. We're very far from having a good TWRP man :crying:

In fact, the problem with TWRP right now is that still doesn't support Android 10 launched devices features like dynamic partitions which is the new way Android manages system and other sensitive partitions (like vendor), so even OnePlus devices doesn't have a fully working and functional TWRP...
Anyway, maybe we just need to spam Poco board through Twitter to get some attention around development for f2 pro
I had a Mi Mix 1,2&3, there were some custom rom but they were all awful, poor performance or poor battery life. That's why i stopped buying Xiaomi with their ****ty MIUI

I want to stay tuned with this forum in order to buy a phone only after there is an UNBRICK procedure. I am tired to risk for these phones watching only the specs value for the money. Is not enough to have a complete and durable experience.
