[Q] Help can't access usb mode or adb sideload - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went to update my htc one AT&T (stock rom 4.2) to a custom rom (android revolution hd ver51) but when it it finished it was stuck on a loop. so I went to twrp (2.5) and cleared the cache but that didn't work. I wiped everything including my backup. now i can only go from bootloader to twrp. I tried to get into fastboot usb mode my pc won't recognize the device. I then tried to sideload adb via twrp and again won't recognize by the pc. I uninstalled the drivers restarted my computer tried many different cables and every pc port i had and still get nothing. I tried using a flash drive and an otg cable but again fail to recognize the device. I reinstalled the sdk and sync manager tried older drivers the newest driver and still nothing. I tried ruu but bootloader won't let me lock sim (sd int fail) Any help would be appreciated. I'm running out of options. Thanks

1- if you have an m7_u/ul model then you need TWRP 2.6.3.3 or higher as mentioned in the OP, this guys had the same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728415
2- if adb doesn't see your phone in recovery, please check FAQ#2 in my guide (you can disregard the guide only check the FAQ section)

Follow this guide to be sure your drivers are installed correctly:
originally from @nkk71: [GUIDE] [02-MAR-2014] nkk71's SuperGUIDE to returning 100% back to stock
2) Q: I'm using Windows 7 what should I worry about
A: when you issue the command "fastboot boot CWM.img" (now only in CWM/TWRP restore method) there's a high chance drivers won't correctly install

follow the below instructions to fix
Open "Device Manager" -> select the unknown "One" -> right-click -> "Update Driver Software ..." -> "Browse my computer" -> "Let me pick" -> "Android USB Devices" -> select "My HTC ..." -> install that
just in case, HTC Drivers can be found here: [Drivers] HTC Drivers for Windows - Several Versions (credits to @mdmower)
though you should already have them since you have been using your phone anyways
for those who like a visual guide:
okay so I did a fastboot boot command, and as you can see it didnt install correct driver
Open "Device Manager"
there's the culprit
right click and Update Driver Software
select Browse my computer for driver software
select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
select Android USB Devices
select My HTC ... (if you have more than one version, choose the latest)
warning, select Yes
successful installation
now it looks better
and can confirm:
Code:

I tried your directions but windows is not detecting the one when i try to plug it in. I don't see it in the device manager. I uninstalled all drives for it and when I plugged it back the phone does nothing. is the device detectable in bootloader or twrp I don't have an os so I cannot go into usb host mode or dev mode.

you should be able to use fastboot commands from bootloader and adb commands from twrp. Try using another usb port and another cable.

Uninstall everything that starts with "HTC ....", then install latest drivers from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2089508
plug your phone in, what does it get recognized as? It has to be recognized as something, otherwise it's not connected (possibly bad USB port on PC/phone).

After several different computers, different cords and every port on my pc I'm guessing the usb port on the phone is corrupted. I'm not sure this is fixable but any help would be appreciated.

Well if nothing is showing up in Windows Device Manager, then the port is damaged and not fixable via software.... try opening Device Manager, then plug in the phone.... does Device Manager screen "refresh"?

If you can get into fastboot and recovery then the issue is most likely the drivers on your computer. Start there. You may end up flashing an ruu and starting from scratch. I take it you didnt make a backup first like it is advised?

Always keep a backup on your device. On your PC is pointless to be honest. To be honest I think you can but I dont know as I have been S-off and super CID since the day I got it as I cant stand what Sense has turned into.

adb lists your device in sideload mode, so you need to sideload the rom
if you want to push the rom, you need to exit sideload mode, and be in normal recovery mode

[Q] ADB doesnt recognize HTC One in Recovery

I have a nandroid backup.
Its too big to keep on the phone at all times
Therefore its been placed on my computer
And in the case i need it (boot-loop), how can i transfer the backup while in CWM?
ADB seems to be the simplest way, but adb cannot find my device when it is in the bootloader or in custom recovery.
Am i missing something? Or is there another way to solve this issue.
If anyone could help, id be very grateful.

yes fastboot usb is shown and all fastboot commands work, its just that adb doesnt work when its in bootloader or recovery.
I did some more digging around and found that when the phone is connected while in recovery, the computer recognizes it as a "HTC MTP device"..and thats it. I cant upgrade the drivers of the said device or essentially do anything with it.
What am i missing?
ADB should only work under Recovery. I found that with the last HTC driver it didn't install for when you are under Bootloader, Recovery, or Fastboot. I forgot what version actually worked the best but it might have been the 3 series drivers. Anyway while under Recovery you'll have to force the HTC drivers to install thru your Device Manager. It will not automagically detect them. I would start with these drivers and try them out.
HTCDriver_4.2.0.001.exe
Universal_Naked_Driver_0.72.zip
HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

Thanks for the reply, ive tried the first two drivers, work fine when the phone is booted, but no avail in recovery. The laptop shows the device connected as "My HTC" while in recovery, but im unable to use adb commands as adb doesnt connect to it. Ill try the third 3 series driver and post an update in a few.
UPDATE: wont install, im running windows 8 and it says this driver is not compatible with this operating system.

Does it say its offline? What do you actually see when using adb. As for the driver in Windows 8, you have to disable driver signature checking to use them. There is a thread in the Nexus 4 forum on how to do this, which is here:

installed the 3 series driver, still the same problem. Heres some photos (which i should have attached originally) of whats happening.
The pictures are while the phone is normally booted, and then when the phone is in recovery.
Edit: Uninstalled all of the HTC drivers and devices inside the device manager, and only installed the Universal Naked Driver, the phone now shows up with a different name in device manager, but STILL does not work while in recovery.
Another pictures attached of how device manager looks with just the Universal Driver while in recovery.
anyone?
i have the same problem as u.. I tried both my missus Windowss PC now.. It used to detect it before. Now it suddenly doesn´t anymore. On my mac, same deal. Nothing detected.
Been googling around and i have found threads but they all end unsolved. ADB returns ADB devices blank. Kill-server or adb remount does nothing. in Fastboot USB its totally a ghost.
found any fixes?
I'm clueless too. I can only think to try other recoveries. Philz CWM comes to mind. I also uploaded the latest google usb drivers for you incase you want to try that out too. Google v7 USB drivers I think they are called. You'll probably have to force install them since they won't detect. Included the adb and fastboot from the SDK too. Last thing I can probably suggest is to try different USB port. Oh and TWRP too since it has the terminal built in it you could try starting up ADB from there.
Me too...
Did anyone ever resolve this? I'm facing it now, having tried multiple recoveries. Previously was able to use adb fine. (I'm on a mac.)

In case this helps someone else: The reason I lost adb was that I'd installed the drivers on my mac for EasyTether. There's a note about this on the EasyTether FAQ page. When I disabled the EasyTether driver, I was able to use adb again.

have you tied all-in-one-tool-kit ???
Not sure if this will help, but I had an issue like this with my asus tab - adb worked fine in android os but not in twrp recovery, device manager showing it as other device.
While in recovery with device connected to pc I followed this how-to from the device manager part on and got adb working in recovery.
ADB not connecting

Re Install HTC drivers manually, windows sees HTC until you boot into recovery mode and try to use ADB, It worked for me.
HTC One(M7) not recognized by adb
Condition:
HTC One(M7) - rooted; s-ON; GPE ROM 4.3.1
Recovery - CWM
I have a similar problem with my HTC One(M7). I'm working mainly on a mac (OSX Maverick), but I have also tried using a PC (Windows 8). I accidentally wiped the data on the phone while in recovery, and now I have a phone that only boots to the bootloader and recovery. Since backups usually take a lot of memory, I kept all of mine on my computer. The simple fix I've been trying to do is sideload the ROM to the phone through adb, however adb does not find the device. I repeatedly get the "device not found". However the device is recognized in fastboot, and i always get the "fastboot USB" when it is connected. So I am unable to flash the ROM I need to the phone because it is unable to communicate with either computer. On the PC I made sure to have had the proper drivers, I downloaded HTC SYNC, and have tried updating them manually. However I always get the "error Code 43". The PC also does not recognize the device, so again I am unable to communicate with the device. Can I plz get any help, I have tried reading multiple forums, but have had no luck trying any solution. I would really appreciate any advise; Im desperate to fix the phone.

Take a look at this FAQ post and see if this doesn't help solve your problems. I would also recommend updating your CWM recovery to the latest.
having a similar problem. My system and everything is wiped all I have is TWRP 2.6.0.1 and I'm trying to end with cyanogenmod. theres no sdcard slot so my only option is an adb push through recovery. Adb doesnt recognize it, it just doesn't return anything in the list of devices when i type adb devices. in devmgmt it lists my phone as a disk drive... I have tried to update the drivers to the universal naked ones, but then windows says that it already found and installed the best driver software I have the T-Mobile variant but I thought I'd post here since this problem is more than likely not carrier specific and I didn't wanna add another thread. I can do fastboot just fine when in fastboot usb mode, but in recovery no adb... I can't install the naked drivers it just says that the file is incompatible

From what I could read, the only way into the phonr now for you is the fastboot. You are able to get into fastboot. So theoritically you could flash a custom recovery again and save your phone, provided your computer recognises the phone.
So, I beleieve there is no point in trying to look for a diifrent PC. Your PC should be fine. Make sure you are connecting the phone to USB 2.0 port and not to a 3.0 port. Use the standard USB cable that comes with the phone and not any cable. Uninstall all HTC software inluding drivers and wipe your computer clean using something like Ccleaner. Restart. Download and install latest HTC Sync Manager. Dwnload latest SDK package (64 or 32 bit depending on your PC). Use the latest fastboot/adb files to ping your phone and see if it works. If it works, then I beileve you know how to flash a custom recovery. Please keep us posted on your progress.

This happened to me and solved by below thread, Have you tried the steps in post #47 exactly??
Boot TWRP, then select “Mount”, then select only “Data” and connect your HTC One to your computer

If you have windows 8.1 64bit, The method/tool in below linked video works for me, but you have to follow it exactly, and after that try the steps in post #47 linked above.

[Q] Stuck on HTC Logo S-OFF Dev Edition TWRP installed

All,
I was attempting to reset my phone via TWRP, wiped everything and after the wipe, I'm stuck on the HTC LOGO. I can get into fastboot and into TWRP recovery. But that is pretty much it. I tried installing RUU but the computer does not recognize the phone. I tried ADB Fastboot Devices, and no devices.
Not sure what my next step is. I just want to get it back to stock.
Thanks!

Probably because you have wiped /system, the OS
I tried ADB Fastboot Devices, and no devices.

You probably have drivers issues. What is your computer OS and your hboot version? Do you have latest HTC drivers installed?
Not sure what my next step is.

Fix your drivers so you can post the output of "fastboot getvar all" and we can determine what you need to flash.
As I recall, I never had driver issue when connecting my phone to my win 7 workstation. Again, I can only get into fastboot. You think that is the reason why I can't connect via usb?
I will reinstall the drivers again just in case.

if you are using windows 7, check that when the phone is connected via USB, in windows device manager, it should be listed under "Android USB Devices" ---> "My HTC" when booted in bootloader fastboot mode or under "Android Phone" --> "Android ADB Interface" when booted in recovery. If not the case, re-install your drivers. If your phone is not detected at all by the computer, you have USB connectivity issue either because a bad USB cable or a bad usb port (PC or phone).
"fastboot devices" should output your phone s/n when booted in bootloader fastboot mode
"adb devices" should output your phone s/n when booted in recovery mode.

softbricked htc one, cant mount, cant adb push, cant execute ruu file on pc

I've been rooted for almost 2 years now. For the past week my screen was randomly spazzing out and typing random letters when I was texting. As a result I factory reset and nothing happened. So I decided to backup and wipe my whole phone from twrp. When I wiped however I ended up wiping the backup.
So here I am now, I have a windows 8.1 Laptop x64. My htc currently has acess to bootloader and twrp touch recovery and theres no OS installed. The phone is Relocked with S-OFF.
When I plug my phone into the computer in fastboot the sound comes up and the hardware icon comes on the taskbar saying android 1.0, however I have no acess to the memory or storage. I have tried to mount the phones usb OTG in the twrp recovery but it does not select and just highlights it.
I have also tried to run a executable RUU from my desktop and I get failed to connect error.
The adb error is simply waiting for device.
I really need some help, i've tried to follow lots of guides but I'm getting errors.
Thanks

i've also tried that "seems i've tried everything lol".
I couldn't find the device when I plugged in the phone and there was no exclamation mark, when I tried on my friends pc I also had problems.
I have htc Sync installed so there should be some drivers atleast. I think it might be windows 8.
I tried to update the htc android interface but it says already up to date
This is my device manager with the phone plugged in. Like I said it makes a noise when it connects to the pc.
I'm about to reinstall htc sync and get back to you

couple of questions, what is ACER device, HTC android interface ???? is that there when your phone isnt plugged in ?
also, you say you installed HTC sync manager, after the install, remove HTC sync from add remove programs, leave HTC driver package above installed, sync doesnt play nice.
Which HBOOT do you have on your phone, Windows 8 doesnt play nice with HBOOT 1.44 ? (it will say on the main bootloader screen)
The drivers in Windows can be a right pain in the butt, because Microsoft and windows thinks it knows best, I know you say youve tried updating the driver, but you will need to force it, not use the automatically search option, it will always come back with "Windows has determined you have the best driver blah blah blah" instead select update driver - browse my computer - let me pick..... - Android devices (if asked to select type of device) - latest myHTC driver - Install anyway.

I have no idea what they are, they appeared only when the phone is plugged in. Just removed HTC sync manager but kept HTC Driver installer installed.
Now I get this
The HBOOT is - 1.57.0000
When I go to update manually the my HTC I get,
In which case what should I select?
The last option says it is not digitally signed

dont worry about the driver part, I can see from your picture now that the driver has sorted itself out, can you see how its now changed ? its now says Android Devices - My HTC, try fastboot getvar all now without imei and serial number.

Oh right I thought you meant to display all possible commands in the cmd window
Check this post and try it.
I did and it worked on two separate Windows 8.1 x64 installations.
But first - make a copy of these two system files by yourself, manually.

well we know its not your usb port or your lead as device manager is seeing your device, I take it your phone is showing fastboot USB on its screen ? (see pict below)
failing that, try my fastboot and adb files, attached below also.

relocked wont matter for that command as long as it says fastboot USB on your phone screen, im pretty lost on this one, tried everything in my knowlege, just dont understand why it still says waiting for your device when windows can see your device and your using my fastboot files, they work fine for me......
maybe @alray can possibly shed some light on this.

bugger, are you using a USB hub ????? thats a big no no, take the phone out of there and use a USB port, one directly connected to the motherboard, preferably USB 2 not 3 if possible, no ports or front headers.
Strange. Probably time to try with ubuntu to isolate a possible issue with windows or drivers.
