[Q] How to safely format Internal Storage ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okaii, there is nothing wrong with my phone and everything is working just fine , i always wipe system and data and and flash new roms ... i also have a backup of my rom , but now i want to make a FULL wipe , as in system, data, and internal storage.. but i know i can't connect my phone in twrp to add a rom file affter wiping storage.. so is there any way to do that , safely , without any errors and just flash the ROM again ?

You could try and use adb sideload, however for me sideloading ROM zips never works so what you would need to do is format the internal storage from a PC then transfer a ROM.zip over to it then proceed with the rest of the wipes except internal storage as you've already wiped that

This works ?
Also i wanted to ask.. if i formated internal storage from the phone itself, after the boot , i transfer the rom.zip to it and do all wipes from recovery.. does it work too ?

Seems like its been disabled for MTP devices, that's new to me - looks like you'll have to go with the other way of doing it, flash the ROM with a full wipe of system and data beforehand then just wipe internal storage from recovery after the ROM has flashed.

Everything worked perfect , thanks alot !

[Q] Completely Format?

Hi!
I would like to fully format my phone ,as in both the internal as well as the external memory. But i would like to know if CWM would be erased by this procedure or does CWM resides on the phone memory.

i thinjk that CWM its on the internal memory, you could make the full wipe from CWM , so certainly not erased. ithink

Hello to format then you have to use the Dual smartflash a tool that allows you to perform a full format with regard to the internal memory. The phone will be as soon as it left our facilities. But as for formatting the memory card, the easiest and fastest way is to insert the SD format from PC to your PC and format it

just go to CWM / Mounts&Storage and do all the formats that you see there, except for /system.
Those formats will not harm your CWM but will absolutely erase all user data, and internal SDcard, and external SD, it will not remove your rom but the rom will be factory fresh (asking for the google account on 1st boot).

Well... formatting /system will wipe your rom.
isn't that what i said?
edit : indeed, it isn't what i said... , so OP shouldn't format /system.

Bricked HTC One...

Ok so I booted into Recovery, did Wipe Data/Factory Reset then went into Mounts and Storage and did format /system. I stupidly did all this without copying a custom Rom to my internal SD card first. The phone now doesn't boot, I can't mount USB storage in recovery because there is no option to do so and the RUU isnt available.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
PS. Yes I know I should have done a Nandroid backup first and yes I know I'm an idiot.

[Q] Boot loop - Still possible to backup internal sd?

Hi guys!
Here's my situation:
- P990, tonyp's PA 2.6 v.13, old bootloader, Kowalski kernel exp. version 12x
- Phone started boot looping (no obvious cause)
- Tried deleting cache. Didn't help.
- Tried flashing the same ROM from external SD. Didn't help.
- Tried restoring working backup (boot and system only, not complete restore) from CWM. Didn't help.
So then I guess I have to do a complete factory reset, but that means I'll lose everything on my internal SD card, right? I want to make a copy first so that I can keep my files. My nandroid backups are only 2.x GB, so I guess they don't include everything on the internal SD card.
I tried to connect the phone to my laptop, but nothing happened, so I deleted/reinstalled drivers from the LG website. That didn't work, but then I found this post which got me a little further. It said the installation was successful, but when I was in CWM, the disks (int. and ext. SD) wasn't being recognized. When I rebooted recovery (from CWM) or just rebooted the device, the computer recognized the discs and started installing four drivers, but as the phone either gets into CWM or just boot loops, it seems like Windows isn't able to finalize the installation of the drivers. This results in the SD cards not being functional in Windows. I can't even see disk labels or storage used/available.
Does someone have an idea of how I might be able to access the internal SD from Windows? Either by fixing the driver issue, or some other method?
I guess I have to fix this USB issue to be able to try to use adb pull to get all the stuff off the internal memory as well, right? Or is the connection between phone and computer not required to be "complete" to be able to do that? I do not remember for sure, but I believe I had turned on USB debugging before all this mess started. However, I have never used adb before.
I'm massively thankful for any help!

I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.1.
Yes, I tried wiping dalvik cache as well, but that didn't fix it either.
Are there some other ways of getting out of the bootloop? I don't mind flashing stock rom or whatever else, as long as I can recover my internal SD.

Download AIO-toolkit from the developement forum. Install itt, and install nvflash drivers with it.
At the main screen select option 2, and then select option 2 again. Follow teh instructions on the screen, and select TWRP 2.5.0.0 to be installed, or cwm 5.0.2.8, both have working mass storage.
(6.0.3.1 has broken massstorage and adb interface. I think you installed cwm 6.0.3.1 through rom manager, if it that true you are on old bootloader.)

Aha, that explains it!
I installed CWM 5.0.2.8 and I got a little further than before. When I mount USB storage in CWM, my external SD card shows up on my computer, but not my internal SD card. What can be the reason for this? Could the card be corrupted, or are there other ways of getting the internal SD to appear?
I tried mounting everything I could mount from the Mounts and storage menu in CWM, but the external SD was still the only thing that showed up on my laptop.
Thank you so much for helping with this!

Do a factory reset with a working cwm. You will lose all your installed apps and their data, but it will keep data on internal sdcard. After the factory reset you can boot up into andorid

YES! I thought factory reset would delete the internal SD, so I didn't even consider that, but it worked like a charm! Thank you so much for caring and helping! You just made my week! :highfive:

wipe the system

I plan on flashing a new rom
and my question is, if wiping the system and the internal storage can damage my phone?
thank you

it won't physically damage your phone, but there's really no need to wipe system (as it gets wiped during installation of new ROM), and if you wipe internal storage, you will have to do one of the following to get the ROM onto your phone to be able to install it:
1- OTG cable
2- adb push
3- adb sideload

Deleted internal storage in TWRP. Need Help.

I deleted the internal storage on my phone in twrp. What can I do to get everything back?
I think you're boned. Unless there is a way to pull the deleted data using software on a PC.
Fastboot factory IMG. Or use rom tool kit to flash a factory image. There is an option in twrp to connect to the PC where you can transfer files. You could always load a rom that way and flash a zip through twrp
As said above, you can still install a ROM. Or flash a factory image etc. But the data (pictures, videos, music etc) is gone. It was formatted and not likely able to be recovered. I assumed that's what you meant, when you asked to "Get everything back"?
My sad sad self went and did this. Still in TWRP. I've mounted system, data, and cache. I see the Nexus 6 in Windows 7 and see Internal Storage; it's empty. I cannot create new folders or copy files (ROMs, GApps, zips, etc) into Internal Storage without getting "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." I cannot for the life of me find another way to push files to the phone.. Any help is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Is it still possible for me to follow Mr. Hoax's Tut through bootloader? (I'm really nervous to try and reboot into BL) It says I don't have an OS (obviously) when I get to the confirm reboot of TWRP...

You're referring to TWRP, correct? Wipe->Format Data? I have done this but am unsure how to proceed... I still cannot seem to get files to copy onto Internal Storage...
EDIT: I got a ROM, GApps and SU to stick to Storage!!! Gonna try to install now.
SUCCESSSSSSSSSS!!!! WOOOOOO! Totally gonna try to update to 5.1 again haha Thank you thank you thank you @simms22!

Tip: it will not allow to format user data right after deletion!
You will need to restart recovery and only after that it will format the user data!
