Link2sd do not working from Androids 4.1 to up.
Do not ask Why or If will ever be a patch like that, I will be glad to expand the storage on my phone too but not in this way.
The only solution at the moment is use Folder Mount App.

Yes, when you "mount" a folder you have a double data, the moved files are the real one, the other folder (where the data was before) are the ghost once (fake), folder mount do that because the system have to read to that file.
In the moment when you unpick the folder, from green to white, the ghost files disappears. Yes, it's a bit confusional but when you learn it will be easy to use.
Remember, when a folder are mounted in Folder Mount (green pick) if you delete the ghost files you will delete also the reals one, be careful.
Apps Analyzer check for Apps to move data from internal to external, just choose the destination (exc..make a folder Games) and yes, overwrite when asked, it will move the files, then they are mounted when is green.
If you have an app and Apps Analyzer do not recognize that app just do it manually, go to List of pairs, click Plus (+), browse to the folder which you want move to SD (obb or data), choose destination and name of the application, done.
Keep testing. you will understand and check always the Internal Storage, if you see it will never go up even if you have double data as the one in internal storage is the fake one.
Click thanx for me. XP
I'm using Link2sd with pac rom (cm based 4.4) without problems. Since the latest update it can even move data to the second partition, so it basically moves everything now. Perhaps you're on stock rom that does not support init.d scripts?

That is a good new but Pac Man rooms seems not stable yet and with few bugs.
Do you can mount the whole SD card as internal storage? or just the partition EXT4?

With the current Pac rom nightly I only have some camera problems, the rest seems really stable already.
Link2sd needs a second partition (which can be ext4, but also ext2/3 or even fat), so you can't use the whole sdcard.

Sorry I misunderstood. With the newest version it really moves everything connected to the app to the second partition and frees up the space in the system storage.

It's a common issue if this script, I had this many times before and this make huge problems as you "maybe" can fix it by wiping Dalvik Cache but if you do that all your saved apps data cache can be losted. So I will be glad if we will be able to mount a whole SD card instead of internal memory so we will get rid of this errors.

I highly recommend using CMW for making the partition. I've had some problems making them through my PC. With CMW you just set the amount of size you want it and wait till its done.
Then install S2E.
yea its better to make it by cwm and its very easy....
but make sure you have the backup of you sdcard before partitioning...
Hey ! I just googled about partitioning sd card and found that CWM may brick your phone.. is it true ?

If your phone is rooted, follow these steps -
1) Download root explorer or file manager app from market.
2) Open the app
3) Go to system/app
4) Delete the following files
swype.apk
thinkdroid.apk or thinkfree.apk if you dont use thinkfree office(something like that, i dont remember the exact name)
youtube.apk
fmradio.apk and fmradio.odex
voicesearch.apk
voicerecorder.apk and voicerecorder.odex
etc..
Delete these files only if you dont use all these apps. Don't blame me later on.

Apps disappearing from EXT4 partition
Hi everyone. Since I see that at least part of this thread seems to be talking about Link2SD, I wondered whether anyone might be able to offer some insight into the problem I am experiencing.
Before that however, let me explain that I started off with an 8GB micro SD card with a 500MB EXT4 partition. I had been fast running out of space in the internal phone memory, and my SD drive itself was also filling up fast. When I installed Link2SD I managed to regain a considerable amount of free space on the internal memory.
The problem is though that once I had linked the majority of my apps to the EXT4 partition and backed up the device in that condition with CWM, once I rebooted the system all the apps that were linked had disappeared. However there are still some 244MB of files on the EXT4 partition that Link2SD says are in use, and I cannot delete them.
I then purchased a 16GB micro SD card from Samsung, and tried to restore the CWM backup to that card....my apps were missing apart from the few that remained on the FAT32 partition and in the phone memory....I should mention that this also happened before I installed the CM7.1 ROM.
Now things have really become problematic. I decided to remove quite a few apps, then download the latest version of Link2SD from the apps Market. But although there is now plenty of space on all partitions I keep getting the 'insufficient storage available' message, and I cannot install anything. I also did a CWM restore on the original 8GB SD card with the same result. This is why I cannot lay the blame fully on Link2SD, as there has to be a glitch somewhere in my installation.
FreeSpace [Root] shows the following on the 8GB based system:
Cache free space 20.7MB
Data free 16.6MB
Ext free 265.0MB
SD-card free 959.1MB
System free 48.2MB
So what gives? I really don't understand what's going on. I am running the latest CM7.1-RC1 Cooper-Grif ROM build number GWK74, with Kernel version 2.6.35.7-CL-562111 [email protected]#1 with all updates necessary. This is costing me more time than I can afford to lose on this, and I really need to find a solution once and for all, preferable without having to reinstall everything again from scratch, which is what I intend doing once the official Cyanogen Mod becomes available finally.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the long post.

Make partition in cwm yet easy but...it will format your sd...on minitool is better if u have lots of thing on your sd...
regards,
•ƒγяύs ργяσ™•
I got some problems doing this. This is what I did:
I had many apps installed and moved to SD (8gb class 4), so I made a backup of the SD content.
I formatted it, and created 2 partitions (6.8gb and 515mb) using Minitool Partition Wizard. Both are primary and FAT32 (if I create the 2nd partition as EXT2 the phone says SD is damaged).
Moved my backup content again to the 6.8gb partition and rebooted the phone.
Looks like everything is right but Link2SD says "second partition not found".
What IM doing wrong?
Would Link2SD detect that 2nd partition if I flash my phone and I start installing apps now that my SD has 2 partitions?
IMHO from what I've experience, Link2sd does not accept fat partitions. I had the same problem.
Are you looking for the correct type of partition?
Start Link2sd>menu>More>recreate mount scripts and choose FAT32/FAT16

peple, i can't believe is so hard to find information about this big problem.
HOW CAN I MOVE INSTALLED APPS TO MY EXTERNAL SD??
I tried all "App2SD" in google play, but looks like Optimus 2x mount its SD in a different way, so what these apps does is move apps to/from internal memory (it is not the same as internal sd??? why 2?) and internal sd.
So i boght a 32GB sd for just videos and mp3???
I googled and found a link talking about "Mod Install Location".
Well, this "Mod Install" doesn't work too. I can't install news apps in external sd nor can i move installed apps.
No one bottered with this situation too???? Is impossible to move installed files in Optimus 2x do the external SD?

Another question about this SD problem: looks like that after flash roms and firwares the internal sd will be totally wiped. Well, so Titanium Backup is useless for Optimus 2x, as it doens't let choose directory for backups. Solution?

+1 on CM7. That ROM will render your internal SD useless as EVERYTHING can be thrown to the external SD.
I have Titanium Backup Pro and there's an option to choose the backup location in preferences. I'm pretty sure it's also present in the free version.
(TB is very useful for me. Enough for me to purchase it.)
If you are using app2sd from market to move your application to sdcard, meaning you can do it manually from your application manager, each and every app you click will have a button to move to sd. App2sd market app just simplifies this process. Please note that this method only moves some app files to the sdcard not all of it, it will still leave app dalvik and app user data on the internal memory.
The real app2sd/app2sd+/data2sd that creates a link from your internal phone data partition and relocate your data folder to external sd are script based, and you have to make a ext3/4 partition on your external sdcard in addition to your fat32 partition. This is what you need If you want to totally move all data to external sdcard.
I have not seen ppl making tutorials using this script in o2x forum, because the 1.5gb app space is good for most people, unless if you have alot of games in your phone. For what I know the app2sd+ script is universal for all phones, you may just need to make some modifications to the script to make it work on every specific phone type/model.
About the flashing firmware wiping internal sd, I have not encountered such issue. For what reason do you flash a firmware? I havent tried flashing rom the official way since you can just use cwm to flash rom, but I flash baseband alot of times, no internal sd wipes, but it does wipe data partition.
TB doesn't let you change the backup folder like that. You have to copy the "TitaniumBackup" folder with a few backup files to where ever you want and then the app scans for folders with backups.

Well, maybe is my enlglish that is horrible, but that is what i understand reading this:

If you use app2sd+ script method, everything will function normally. A class 6 or 10 sdcard can perform as fast as your internal phone storage. You may wear your sdcard faster though since it is being regularly used and accessed.
The only problem is to fine the script itself that is specifically customised for o2x, I myself do not know how to do it, although I used it before for my HTC Desire phone, but that was long time ago and the script was integrated in custom roms since htc desire only has 150mb app space.

Yes, all threads will say that, its just cautionary purposes. I just recently reflashed my baseband to v20c a a month ago using smartflash, it did wipe my rom data, but not my internal sd. But just incase, make a backup of everything, it doesn't hurt to do that.

The ext partition will always be mounted for android system, so you cannot access via pc. You need a fat32+ext3/4 partitions combo.
First you need to know how much storage do you need for apps, please note that I think the internal 1.5gb app storage will be left unused if you decide to link your data (which will fool android system thinking it is phone memory) folder to your external sd.
We have talk too much on this topic but I myself is unsure whether you can find the script to run on o2x. Maybe its time for you to take some time on how to actually find and modify one so it works for o2x. I cannot help you on that at all. Keep us posted if you have any progress.

But can i alternatively make a backup of big games in the sd so i don't need to download 700 MB every time i want to install it again? As already said Titanium Backup will not do that. I could cut and paste only the backup of the game i want to sd, but Titanium show the name of backups in a way wich is dificult to read among many files. Plus i am not sure TB will backup all data of the game.

also, i have tried directory bind,app2sd, lind2sd and gl to sd(root) none of them seems to be installing or working for me as i still face the prob with installation of the same app.

try changing default install location. possible with normal device options, dont remember where. or else use app2sd to change it.
although i have the same error, when trying to install anything on extsdcard (with enough room on it), with faria rom v5.1.
with leatherface v2 i didnt have the problem if i remember correct.
update:
i still have the problem too.
wiped dalvik, factory reset multiple times, cleaned odin files, although faria rom is also using odex?
phone works fine, but i only have 4,5gb max internal (fused internal and sdcard).
and i cant install anything to external. i selected the options *install to: autoselect by android, internal, or external.
i tried it with more then one app, like rom toolbox pro.
i also noticed that chaning it it one app, correctly alters it in another.
i asked this in q&a, and i read what i can searching the whole forum. still i wuold really like to know:
-is 4,5 gb max combined/fused is normal for s3 mini +faria rom)?
-is it normal to have .obb partition completely empty, even having installed multipple apps?
its 402mb, totally free.
And i have other partitions also 402 mb, totally free.
-/cache partitions remains at 14mb, whatever happends, even after changing usage of cache heavier and lighter.
-cant install anything on extsdcard.
-/mnt/sdcard shows in that directory, with root explorer, as linked to sdcard0.
same in root:/sdcard (not sdcard0!) linked to -> sdcard0
but it has no apps in it. and only some folders.
?i dont know if i am correct in assuming that "->" symbol in root explorer means: linked to.

and i cant install anything to external. i selected the options *install to: autoselect by android, internal, or external.
i tried it with more then one app, like rom toolbox pro.
i also noticed that chaning it it one app, correctly alters it in another.
i asked this in q&a, and i read what i can searching the whole forum. still i wuold really like to know:
-is 4,5 gb max combined/fused is normal for s3 mini +faria rom)?
-is it normal to have .obb partition completely empty, even having installed multipple apps?
its 402mb, totally free.
And i have other partitions also 402 mb, totally free.
-/cache partitions remains at 14mb, whatever happends, even after changing usage of cache heavier and lighter.
-cant install anything on extsdcard.
-/mnt/sdcard shows in that directory, with root explorer, as linked to sdcard0.
same in root:/sdcard (not sdcard0!) linked to -> sdcard0
but it has no apps in it. and only some folders.
?i dont know if i am correct in assuming that "->" symbol in root explorer means: linked to.

did u used linked to sd?if yes you have to select default instal location to automatic...that solved my problem...the setting in link 2 sd....before this i select install to ext sd card and every time theres error insufficient memory...
thx for yuor reply

thx for yuor reply.
no that is not what i mean exactly.
i do use link2sd now, to use my extsd 2nd partition. but it gives an error: installl_failed_insufficent storage.
even when i put it on auto.
when pressing create link, i get: i/o error.
what do you have selected to auto move to 2nd partition?
my primary question, has to do with the fused internal+sdcard phone memory (so not extsdcard), of faria firmware.
Phone sees the fused internal as,... internal memory.
and the phone sees my extsdcard as external sdcard.
i presumed the reason for this is to be able to install apps on ext sd too, by default. (so without link2sd or others).
because the problem as i see it is:
now i have less phone storage.
i still cannot install to external sd card.
i would really like to know
- what should be the benefits of this fused memory? why did faria do this?
- beacause now i have less or same memory, and no benefits.
-what i have to change in system mount, or fuse, to get back original non-fused.
- And/Or, how i can enable extsdcard to install to it too.
thanks
Have you tried with an ext4 partition on your external sd, for link2sd? I've read somewhere that it worked.
Otherwise Directorybind do work. I've binded the whole Android folder without any problems at all :good:

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my s3 mini to JB 4.1.2 by faria and i was wondering why i cant install any more apps as my ram is used up by all my apps. is there a way to clear/wipe all this data and start from scratch installations or any way i can move this huge game files in android/obb to another location in my sdcard to save space for app installations on my phone memory.
also, i have tried directory bind,app2sd, lind2sd and gl to sd(root) none of them seems to be installing or working for me as i still face the prob with installation of the same app.
kindly help.

hi,
actually i do also had a the same problem with my cell phone as of yours... so i just wanna know if we had comeout with those problem.... please suggest me a solution too if you had solved those problem.
please do help...
found a solution (maybe?)
I personally had the same problem right after flashing a new rom on my i9100. I read through the script amd it was quite literally just unmounting and mounting the sd card again. I wasn't sure how it could possibly be a simple matter of mounting the sd card but it worked so I'm okay with that.
If you're on 4.1.2 then you can probably manually unmount and mount the sd card by going into system settings, storage and scroll down to sd card for unmount. It'll take a short while to unmount and another to mount again and check for errors. Not sure if you have to do this will ever boot but it beats not ever installing anything, right?

Hello everyone!
I flashed my XZR from Kitkat to Lollipop a view days ago.
After flashing I had 1 GB lower internal memory left, than a had before.
In detail, I had about 2 GB of memory left, when I started the download over OTA. The file loaded on my XZR and than it flashed. After end of flashing and reboot, only 800 MB to 1 GB internal memory are free now.
Could it be, that lollipop need 1 GB more internal memory as kitkat? I am confused now, cause I need more space in internal memory.
What happend and what can I do?
Greetings Lemmi.
Yes, lollipop needs more internal memory. Because lollipop is ART based, kitkat was Dalvik...
But 1GB, that is very much cause of only 8GB internal storage.
Try moving the apps to your SD. That's why I did to free up space from the internal storage.

Yes I tryed this already, but it dont helps much. Maybe I have to change to another smartphone with more than only 8 GB of internal memory.
Dont wanna go back to Kitkat, cause I think Lollipop runs smoother and better.
Think about rooting, but I think not everything works well right now on XZR and Lollipop with root and maybe there is no working recovery for it and the secong is I dont wanna open bootloader.
Maybe Link2SD could work and solve this storage problem. Aktually the app2sd function isnt enough on my side.

I have now installed about 100 apps (phone say it took 4,39GB - 900MB Free). After 60 apps installed phone say full storage, so i try scan by Xplore and I find in root folder one rly big folder. That folder is /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache that I deleted and get around 1500MB of space. Seems to be some like thrash from Google Play Store. Root needed.
Ok, that helps me a lot. I will go on and root my XZR again. Think it is simple.
And by the way I read in your signatur that you have root and no recovery.
Here is the way to get a working recovery:
http://www.naldotech.com/install-xzdualrecovery-xperia-devices-android-5-0-lollipop/
I will try it out, when I have root, but I think it will work!

All you need is Link2SD, I have a lot of apps installed on my phone, yet I still have over 2GB of free memory left
Do link2sd really work with our xperia zr? Cause on 4.4.4 we must do a workaround, cause if dont you end in a bootloop.
Can I use it without any problems on Lollipop now? I will try it, but it could be better, when I know problems before they happen
An how big you make the sdext partition on sdcard?
Just tried FolderMount for ColorDict and Telegram and both work fine.

There's no need for any workaround. I have an 8GB SD card (I don't know its class right now, doesn't matter), and I've split it 5 - 2:
-5GB for the sdcard1 partition,
-2,2GB for the sdext partition, which the Link2SD app uses.
There is a guide that tells you how to format your SD card right, the best way is via the MiniTool Partition Wizard.
If you've selected ext2 in that app, you want to select EXT4 in Link2SD. That way, when you reboot, everything will be fine.
This is because I've seen many bugs when it comes to creating mount scripts - you select ext2, but when you reboot, nothing happens.
Ok, good news.
I knew link2sd well from my old smartphone.
But I always formated the sdext partition with ext4 and normaly it worked. Hope so here too, cause it may be faster.
My SD is about 32 GB, so I can make a bigger partiton. But I think 2 GB should be best.

So do I. The guys at the Xperia M section helped me out a lot with Link2SD
Right now I had made a sdext partition of 2 GB and formated it 4ext.
After starting link2sd and setting mountscript to 4ext I get a bootloop Dont work!
Think I need a fix or a new remount boot fix for XZR. Think the old for kitkat will not work or will it?
Hello people.
Just updated my ZR to lollipop, yet I am suffering form the lack of internal storage, moving apps to my 64gb SD card seems useless, it refuses to transfer large data files to the SD card, like OALD 8 have a 450 mb data file that needed to be placed in the internal storage.
the ZR is really nice fast device but it`s internal storage is so horrible that makes you think seriously about changing the phone .
any help how to free some internal storage with out root?

Try uninstalling apps that you don't use. ARTS in Lollipop needs much more space than Dalvik, so every app counts. This is also true for system app. I uninstall several system apps, mostly from Sony. Then most important of all, after all these, wipe Dalvik and cache in recovery and let the system re-create them again. This process increase the free internal space from 500MB to > 1GB for me.

No you need root.
Hello.
Its been a while and I've been using the SD as an internal memory for a while. While I love this feature there is a very weird thing with this feature that if you move an app to SD and if it gets an update, it gets moved back to the internal storage which is slightly inconvenient. However more inconvenient is the fact that all the app data gets lost in this updation procedure.
Would any kind soul suggest a workaround or a script to get around this annoying glitch? I mean I really love this feature but it obviously needs polish from Google.
Also another thing is while shifting these apps back to SD, it sometimes says not enough space (despite having lots of it). On the second try it shifts. Any idea what's up with this?
Thanks!
I am having the exact same issues and the same complain.
Being on a device having only 4GB of internal storage (that too only 2.28 GB usable) this "adopt as internal" feature in Marshmallow really came as a boon. However with these issues the whole idea becomes worthless.
I did a bit of search on Google about this feature. For nexus phones on marshmallow there is a "Migrate data" option to the SD card adopted as internal. However this is not available for our devices. It only shows up in the internal storage and lets you migrate from SD to internal? Grrrr....what good would that do?
Any kind of workaround would really help and convince me to keep this phone for another year maybe
I think you're getting confused. We too have the same option but this moving back to the internal storage on updation is something Google needs to address..

Since google's nexus phones lack sdcard slots, this feature was probably introduced keeping android one series phones
in mind, however there is so much confusion regarding it's objective at the moment, for it is only partial implementation of sdcard as internal memory. After updates I am aleardy down to 500mb space on internal storage, the point is if despite using sdcard as internal storage if my original storage space still runs out--what purpose does it serve then? I would have used link2sd otherwise, but this feature put me like many others in dilemma.
Yeah mate, really disappointing..
I have the exact same problem
What was google thinking before releasing this half finished feature
I hope there is an update soon to fix this problem
Some apps disappear after reboot
After moving apps to sd, apps like mxplayer, Microsoft word etc just disappear.
They are automatically uninstalled.
Can anyone confirm this??
Also it would be great if someone finds a workaround these problems
Yup Firefox disappears everytime I install it. So do many other apps..

This is so not cool man.
Whats the use of this feature if apps keep on disappearing
My observation is that the apps which directly get installed on SD card have these issues.
The apps that gets installed on internal first and then moved to SD, survives reboot.
Maybe app developers can make changes to their apps to support this functionality.
Clearly a half assed attempt from Google on this..I re-flashed my ROM and didn't chose the portable storage option. Link2sd doesn't work on Marshmallow yet so I'm just stuck with a typical 4GB internal memory crap phone.

Lets pray that bugs will be fixed soon, and google doesn't scarps this project like other projects.

Make two partitions on your sd card, select portable storage option in Marshmallow, install apps2sd,it has all features of link2sd for free,I am using it myself.
same issue, app disappears or data gets lost or sometimes all apps start crashing untill reboot (when this happens cant modify/write anything on sd card, reboot fixes this though )

Like I said before, simply use sdcard as portable(don't forget to make two partitions) and use apps2sd(it also has an inbuilt partitioning tool), this is by far the best setup as of now to overcome internal memory constraint
.

Hi @arshavin69,
I am trying to use app2sd as you explained, but I am stuck on 2nd partition mounting.
I created 2 partitions by Minitool Partition Manager (because app2sd internal partition manager cause app force close): 1st partitition fat32, 2nd partition ext4.
Once booted up, I choose "portable" and then I open app2sd: app2sd say 2nd partition is not mounted and ask to remount or recreate mount script.
If I try to remount I get an error: mounting /dev/block/vold/179:66 on /data/sdext2 failed No such file or directory.
If I try to recreate the mount script, app2sd ask to choose sd card 2nd partition and file system type.
I am choose /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 and ext4 file system, then app2sd ask to reboot.
After rebooting app2sd says again that 2nd partition is not mounted and ask to remount or recreate mount script.
Could you please explain steb by step what I have to do?
Thank you!
SOLVED dismissing the notification when the phone ask to choose the sd card mount (portable).

if your apps disappear after reboot, just transfer them to internal storage and it won't disappear after that
6.0.1 has made this feature unusable.
after updating to 6.0.1 most of the apps cant be moved to external sd.
internal storage gets filled with google apps
this really sucks
