I was hoping someone could answer a simple question that after researching isn't obviously stated anywhere I've looked.(forums slowing down? yeah, because I've been using the search religiously for days) so let's get down to it.
concerning flashing 2.1 based ROMs onto a rooted sprint cdma htc hero that is running 1.5-
in the new Wiki page of roms for the cdma htc hero, there are two main lists, one for 1.5 ROMs, and another for 2.1 ROMs.
all I want to know is can I flash 2.1 based ROMs on my phone that is running 1.5?
silly question, but I don't want to brick my phone by trying to apply a ROM that isn't compatible with my phone. a simple yes, or no is all I'm looking for.
thanks in advance, and please don't judge, I'm new to this, and want to simply avoid mistakes.

Ok, Papa Smurf put together a really good ROM, I'm just such a noob its killing me. All of the Jargon involved in this is very far over my head. whenever one of you guys say any technical term, i literally have to go look the word up. Rooting for most people with a working brain is a cakewalk. That wasn't the case for me. But i stuck in there and got it done.
Then it came time to install the ROM. I looked through the thread that he posted the ROM and never found any real directions. I'm sure this is due to the fact that everyone has enough sense to figure it out on their own.
What i did was went to the ROM manager and installed the ROM, then re-started my phone. it stuck on the htc screen for a minute then the droid eye thing came up and that kept looping. Soo, according to what I understood from the directions....i took the battery out and put it back in. The first problem I am having is how to turn my phone back on now. It's not even recognizing that the charger is plugged in. The second thing i need is for someone to give me any type of directions on hoe to do this the right way. I dont know how to flash the jit file either.
I'm sure i sound like a fool but thats what i am. Thanks ahead of time to anyone who tries to help me.
I got my phone restored back to the way it was before I tried to install the ROM. I just need to get the ROM installed.
I got it I guess. I just restarted my phone about ten times and it eventually took... a red eye popped up and it said "droid" over and over like it has been doing. Then the rotary lock screen came up and i started to set up my phone. but after i finished it went right back to the eye thing. Is it because of the JIT.ZIP file not being installed right?
That's pretty old. Why not try a nice 2.2 or 2.3 based rom? 2.1 is so... old.

Cm7 or aospmod both are fine choices for non sense roms. Not real sure about sense roms, though. LiquidSense, maybe? Remember to wipe everything before you flash a new rom. Dalvik, cache, data all need it when flashing a new one. More than likely, that is what is causing your boot loops. Don't be so hard on yourself, we all were new once. Btw, I said "hard on"! *Beavis laugh*

Sounds like you may have not done a wipe before you installed the ROM?
I follow the procedure from the CM wiki (because that's the first ROM I flashed)...

I followed these instructions and when I reboot it hangs at the HTC screen. I pulled the battery, waited 1 min. still hangs. I wiped and reinstalled and same results.. any ideas what I'm doing wrong ? Thanks, Ted O
I wiped it, just not good enough apparently. I eventually. Got it working it just wasn't working as well as it looked. I'm gonna try the 2.2 that was suggested.

I used rom manager and wiped Everything three Times. It still didn't run like I thought it would. Pretty sure it wasn't my fault after that.

Thanks Hud.. I'll keep trying as I need 2 android 2.2 for my blueant car kit to work properly.
Just to clarify, I haven't flashed your 2.2 yet. I was still referring to the red dawn rom. If I flash your rom I will I be able to run adw? Probally not right?

What recovery are you using? If it isn't RA, then I can't tell you. I would assume the dalvik wipe would be somewhere around the other wipe options.

Well I've tried 3 different roms so far and only one that would boot was asopcmod and when it tried to load/start the home page it got "sorry ,android** stoped working" and force close..
What am I doing wrong or what is a good rom for cdma hero..
Thanks, Ted O.
I'm interested in non-sense roms.

Hi I was just wondering if you guys knew some cool stuff to do with a rooted phone. Is it possible to theme a stock ROM? Also what's the deal with overclocking and I/O scheduling? Thanks in advance
Sent from my SGH-I896 using XDA App
Yes you can theme a stock rom. And overclocking can only happen with a kernel that is ready to support it.
Keep reading, just make sure you build numbers match

So after I root my wifes captivate with super one click, I can install current nightly with google add on through Rom manager? She had an HTC aria running current nightly and I had to do it always through CWM. Which is not a problem. its because ROM manager didn't work with HTC arias. A little buggy here and there. But I heard its allot easier through ROM manager. But is it safe? Thxs guys.

rom manager is terrible on the galaxy s phones
Thanks. good to know. I'll be doing it from CWM then.
i am not knocking koush and all those involved with ROM manager. i bought the premium version for my other phones, and i love it, but i have to blame samsung and their method of recovery. rom manager just doesnt play well with galaxy s phones. it 'sort of' works once you have CM7 installed. again, its not rom managers fault, its the crappy recovery we have to deal with.
What would be the easiest way to theme a stock ROM? Things like notification pulldown, status bar, battery icons, lockscreen, etc.

oh and to your original question....
why in hell would you root if you dont know what to do with root?
that kind of methodology will end up giving you a 400$ paperweight.

Not the other way around, bro.
****btw CM9 is STILL in development for our LG Revolution.
Sorry if I seem skeptical. Its just that there was talk about cyanogen last year and nothing much ever came of it, nor has much ever came of the other rumored Roms that were talked about. I hope I'm proved wrong because no Android should have only one developer.

Well.... there is Broken Out 3.0 which opened the door for roming on this device....
Eclipse Rom.... which was second
Black Plague 1.0 which is IMO the best of the options.... including the kernel that comes as a separate flashable zip .... it has the best on battery life as well as lagfree performance and undervolting.... also has a higher charge rate included.... and zram swap enabled....
There is also Holo 3.2.6 which is essentially a themed rom.....
Ninjroid is an option as well....
Oh and Plagued Optimus V1....
You can find all these here..... it just takes a bit of searching and you will have everything you need at your finger tips....
Oh and kernel wise .... there is a flashable blitzkrieg ..... plague kernel.... and popcorn kernel....
this is incomplete but it does list the best of the best

The leak ends in bricks and wiped IMEI blocks... No ics roms because the leak was too buggy .... It's fixable after wiping the IMEI but you get no 4g and almost no functionality

I'm having zero luck getting any of the CM 10.x ROMs to load on my Spectrum. Someone over at CM said to check for updated bootloaders and radios. Does anybody know what the latest updates are?
I'm running with CWM 6.x for recovery.
Thanks in advance for any pointers!!
ROM Porting
Why can't anyone work on porting these ROM's to the vs930
why post about the vs920 here?
i am curious as to why this phone does not have its own thread. it needs to be available in the device selection list and i intend to make it happen. i cant find it except by using the general search tool. i cant find old roms for the phone here (gingerbread rom files, mirrors or anything helpful to restore to stock) so that we can do something useful for it.
We're sorry, the Post you are looking for is no longer available.

Is anyone using this ROM. Its really quiet here. I've been using this ROM for a few days. Yesterday I left angry birds open and put my phone in my pocket. When I took it out 40 min. later and it was so hot I could hardly hold it. Is this caused from the kernal or something else? Please let me know if there's any thing I can do to stop this.

I'm the new gummy maintainer for m7spr, so it is 'official' but the build is done on my personal box and not in jenkens yet and due to that it's "unofficial". I'm still testing and tweaking before I submit all the patches for our device, once i'm done it'll be in the jenkens build system and I believe it'll have automatic nightlies/weeklys.
And yes it's 4.4.2.
