I'll preface this question with the facts ...ive been rooting and flashing roms on OG evo and optimus G for quite a while so ive seen a lot of roms and tweaks...but im curious.. is it worth losing root and tweaks to be on 4.4 kitkat? I know that i use my flex for music at work and with high end headphones at home .so i cant give up viperfx sound mod and removal of all lg bloat is a big thing. With successful recovery and bootloader the first thing im doing is flashing a rooted stock kitkat rom. but until then 4.2 is good...your thoughts. ..ty
Totally agree bro!

Yeah I agree 100%. Can't wait for a custom recovery been checking xda constantly for an update.

So we have root, custom kernel, and now CWM. It is about time we have a custom ROM to flash. Still no developers with the device, but we have gotten this far with the help of other developers without the device. I was thinking we could get a list of requests and then contact the right people and provide them the files they need to modify.
I guess ill start with the most obvious ones.
[*] Root / SU / Busybox
[*] Zipaligned
[*] Deodexed
[*] Ad Blocking
[*] Browser tweaks
[*] Bloatware removal
[*] OC kernel?
[*] CWM 5.5.0.4 w/ .hidenandroidprogress built in
[*] Updated stock apps
[*] Extended Power Menu
[*] Theming? (not necessary)
[*] Tethering
Thats all I can think of for now. Once we get a list of things we can begin to find someone with the skills to do it.
Pretty much what you mentioned. And of course the obvious one. ICS is the big want and I know it will take some time. Preferably right now a cleaned up stock rom and themes would be cool.
So i installed linux on my netbook along with dsixda's ROM kitchen. I dont know much but ill see what i can do.
so yea.
so far i can create a ROM which is bloatware free, zipaligned, deodexed, rooted, CWM w/ hidenandroidprogress, updated system apps, with or without OC kernel, and with tethering. sweet.
basically teaching myself though so it may be a while.
I'm not really active on these forums, but I'm also available for testing on my i957. (Wasn't allowed to post in the dev forum until I hit 10 posts)
Yep all the above. the main thing is to get rid of this UI lag.
On my 8.9 LTE i just used another launcher and it was gone...
I'm using another launcher and it's almost gone. I still get forces. I really want to do a full restore of the original rom before any roots and try to push the OC and libs again. The stock ROM I was given by Croak only helps recover from issues but not the ones I mentioned. It never had force closes or any weird issues before. But since the OC it's been running kinda crazy.
Thanks Orlando for the initiative!
In addition to what you have written, If possible, I would also would love to have:
1. Icons representing cellular speed (2G,3G,H,H+,4G) as on my SGS2.
2. JKAY mod. I don't know if this mod is SGS2 only mod or not. , but if it is possible to port it to our tab it would be great.
Thanks
I am not a dev by any means. I just dont have the time to teach myself all of the ins and outs that sammy devs and AOSP devs do. I give them so much credit. Coming from years of a windows base and no programming experience, its tough. I cant make up for what real devs can do, but for now I think I can get a ROM out which will be decent until we can get some real help.
I thnk as soon as we get a good stable, flashable, deodexed base it will open up a lot more easily implimented possibilities for theming and adding/subtracting little odds and ends that differentiate some of the different major ROMS.
My suggestion is to just work on good stable base ROM with fully functioning basics first and let the community work it from there.
I really need to fix the update-binary and the update script in order for this to work in CWM.
but basically I just did simple automated tasks. Kitchened from my nandroid.
Rooted
Superuser
Busybox
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Da_G Overclock Kernel
NoFrills OC App
Custom Libs for OC
Asus Water Wallpaper
Asus Weather Widget
Titanium Backup
Rom Manager (Dont Use It)
Custom Boot Animation Enabled
Bash Shell Support
CWM 5.5.0.4 w/ .nandroidprogress
If it turns out that the nandroid wont work well, then the stock will have to be modified, which means basically just deodex, root, zipalign. thats about all I can do. I wish i knew more about the whole android system but sadly i dont. i am trying to teach myself but it is going to be slow, so i pray we get a real dev soon.
Whatever you can do man is much appreciated. I wish I had a coders heart and talent. Because spend enough time on a PC to be able to contribute if I could this type of coding.
I thought I had everything set and tried to flash and just got bootloops. Then I just took the stock ROM and made a flashable zip from the stock firmware and that didn't even boot. Really discouraging and it took forever to get my tab back to working. Might be better just to wait for someone who knows what they are doing.

Take it easy... Did you took the $7 AT&T insurance for the tab? Usually the AT&T sales rep. does not even know that there is an insurance option for this tab. I went online and saw there was insurance... And mentioned it to the AT&T rep. when buying the tab and he said there was no insurance option... And I told him, yes there is! And he double check and finally realized there was insurance. I took it, because I know the feeling of converting into a brick a brand new shiny device, lol... And look where I am... Already rooted, O/C, flashed recovery and waiting for CM9 or any rom available, lol... Just taking the sidewalk on brick ave. Lol...

I am about to acquire a droid 4
I'm looking for the most up to date rooting method and safe strap installation.. I am by no means a "noob" lol.. I've been reading up on this device and I am currently under the impression that the ICS utility tool is the best method.. My primary device is the nexus but this will b a nice alternative for when I need my battery last longer than 5 hours lol
Secondly ... What is everyone's consensus on the ROM stability.. I am looking for the ROM that can be used as a daily driver.. Would love to hear AOKP is in that boat!!
I believe I've gone through all the stickies so if I missed anything feel free to bring it to my attention!!
Lastly I've owned other moto devices where I would b able to flash the stock image via rsd. Curious if this exists on this device..
To anyone who wants to help me out with some answers I thank u in advance

Rooting/Flashing Stock: The easiest way to root your device is with the Droid 4 Utility ICS Only found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779810. jsnweitzel did a bang up job making it simple to use. You can also use the utility to fastboot your phone back to stock.
Safestrap: The newest version of hashcode's safestrap can be found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688610. This will allow flashing to your stock partition as well as to multiple ROM slots.
ROMs: If you're looking for stability you're best bet is Eclipse ROM by myfishbear. It's ICS based but that is the reason it is pretty bug free. There are also various JB ROMS floating around that can be used as daily drivers depending on your appetite for bugs. CM10.1, KILLRom, and LiquidSmooth are all 4.2.1 based and all have the same bugs including blutooth not fully functional and the big one, incoming calls result in a black screen of death unless you have your ringtone set to silent. There are also an AOKP and CM10 builds based on 4.1.2. They still have the blutooth bug but incoming calls work fine. You can find threads for each of these ROMs in the Dev section except for KILLRom. I created a thread for that ROM in the General section.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for taking the time to answer it is much appreciates

I'm not new to rooting and flashing, except with the G2, VS980. That said, I rooted using an app called "AutoRec" from the Play Store. I then flashed TWRP 2.7. However, when attempting to flash the stable version of Cyanogenmod (10.2), I run into an "LG Security Error" and the phone won't boot past the LG boot screen.
Do I need to revert back to an older firmware to flash ROM's? Is there an LG VS980 flashing tutorial anywhere? I used the TOT method to get the G2 back to stock, and I'm currently back on 24A, but reverting won't be a problem as the stock firmware is garbage.
I know, this is a lot for one post, but I need the information. There are plenty of ROM's to choose from, but I don't even know where to start. I know it's difficult picking one, so which one are you using now and would you recommend it?

CM 10/11 nightlies are based on JB or 12B baseband while your phone has 24A or KK. You need to flash JackpotClavin CM11 5/21/14 release
And also, just for future reference (no disrespect), this belongs in Q&A, not development. Hope you get it figured out!

I appreciate your response. However, JackpotClavin seems to have abandoned development.

It's not a problem. I've been a member here for awhile, but never really post. I still should've known better.
That said, does anyone have any other suggestions for Google source-based ROM's?
I've recently gone with C-Rom. I noticed the size was quite small, and once it booted, I couldn't be happier. It's plain-Jane Android, and I love it!

Carbon is quite nice too, bigshotrob22 has been posting betas based on 24A to the thread, the last one is in my signature. Don't use the nightlies linked in the original post.
Next time I buy a phone I'll check for development first. This phone has suck poor development. Even my wife Motorola xt925 has 4.4.4 and I'm stock on jelly bean.
Great piss off the few we have. LoL
if you want the 4.4.4 you can learn how to compile from source yourself. i tried with my nexus 4 but had a hard time and gave up trying to develop a rom. the problem we have here seems that there arent any source for our phone. be patient... Playfulgod is working on getting us cm11.
btw. stock rooted is fine with xposed frameworks. for me custom roms have their own problems. stock is actually better imo
You can always learn to do it yourself. Or since all you want is to have the latest and newest then you need to go to the play store and down load "go launcher" they always add the new android versions with themes so you can be cool and have the newest look. Or hey I hear that APPLE is about to release the iPhone 6. Maybe go that route.
And by the way your wife's xt925 isn't running an OTA of 4.4.4. Shes running cm or some other built ROM. But its not official 4.4.4 so go NV the RAZR forums.
What a stupid thread

Would it be a great idea to root, rom my moms phone? If so what rom would be great and stable?

I wouldn't. It's just my belief that nothing like that should be done, unless the owner of said device knows how to themselves.

If you're around to maintain the the device. I'd recommend a rock solid stock rom if you do (can't go wrong with xdabbeb's). I'd be uneasy having someone with a rooted device that could easily get themselves into trouble, and not knowing what to do. I maintain my wife's devices, but I'm around if there are issues and updates. I hide the root apps from her app drawer, but there's always the risk of her accidentally booting into recovery and wiping everything...
