[Q] Camera Buttons disappeared after update to 4.3 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hello,
I just got my update for my S3 from 4.1.2 to 4.3, after I updated the system. Three things started to happen:
1. The Samsung Email application has disappeared and I cannot find it all in the Applications Manager, I also looked into the Google PlayStore and didn't find it.
2. When I open the Camera to take a picture I can't find any shortcuts to the camera buttons at all, and as a result I can't take any photos.
3. The mobile crashes a lot.
Because of these I backed up my data and did a hard reset. After that I ran my new fresh installation, but I found that the first two problems still exist in the new installation.
So How can I solve these problems? Please advice.

my guess is that something happened during update...something went wrong...even if the update is from samsung and is tested it can fail....
i suggest a clean install....get your contacts, photos, all data you want and save it...after that get the right firmware from HERE(it's the official samsung site)...
don't do with back-up/restore...get manually data you want to be saved.

Thanks for your reply.
My current problem now, I am not familiar with the firmware upgrade by myself. I am confused which firmware I should download and use?
Because my mobile is not tighten to any operator,I bought it from the middle east, but I can't find my country in the list of the firmwares.
Also I know if I did the manual firmware, I won't get any updates later for my mobile. And I lose the warranty, correct or not?
These are my current mobile info:
Model: GT-I9300
BaseBand version: I9300XXUGNA8
Kernal Version: 3.0.31-2454463
[email protected]#1
Tue Feb 25 15:25:04 KST 2014
Build Number: JSS15J.I9300XXUGNB6
PDA: I9300XXUGNB6
CSC: I9300OJVGNB3
AP: I9300XXUGNB6
CP: I9300XXUGNA8

if you can't find your country....get the one that is next to you...
in what country do you live in?
for example: now i got on the phone firmware from other mobile operator than the one i got the phone...got the firmware from Cosmote and bought phone from Orange(those are companies in my country)...it will not lock the phone on a specific network....no firmware can..
and NO...you will not lose warranty...as long as you flash firmware from samfirmware your device will still have Official status in download(odin) mode....it will increase flash counter(but that doesn't matter for warranty)...for them matters the Knox Counter...and NO...those firmware won't trip it...it will still be 0x0.
as for the updates...i check manually....when the 4.4.2 will come out(and it will) i will do it manually(to enjoy the update fully)

Thanks for your reply, it releaves me. I bought the mobile from Syria, and currently I live in Sweden.
I checked on sammobile as you told me, and it seems that Saudia has the same PDA and CSC of my mobile and the date is April. So should I proceed with this firmware?
Does BaseBand version has anything to do with firmware selection?
Also I read that from the Build Number you can know the name of the country, but I was not able to figure out the name of the country my mobile was directed to, as I told you I bought it from Syria, but the imported somewhere else. So do you have an idea about how to get the country from the Build Number?
All the information for PDA and CSC are provided in the previous reply.

DOWNLOAD 4.3 - has Kies support.
DOWNLOAD 4.1.2
here is the right firmware for your phone....is not branded to any network...this is all in one package...flash with Odin 3.09 as AP....it has CSC in it...
even if you got the phone from Syria should change the CSC for the country you use it in...it has network frequency stuff in it...
and yes you could read that code to find out from where the firmware is and when it was created

[Q] Out-of-box + This version of the device cannot be updated

I have a 2 week old Galaxy Tab which Kies refuses to update I did not mess with it in any way, no root, no aftermarket firmware whatsoever...
Current firmware version: PDA:JMG / PHONE:JMA / CSC:JM6 (LUX)
Model number: GT-P1000
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: P1000XXJMA
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9; [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.XWJMG
I got it in Belgium which is where I live but the firmware version says LUX which I assume means Luxembourg. Could this be my problem?
*#272*IMEI# choose your country CODE and press install , this is will wipe everything in your tab .... then check the kies after that
Thanks! I'm trying this as we speak, do you have any idea which sales code to use for Belgium? I tried EUR, it seems logical (Europe?), but I will try them all if I have to -- I'll report back later
Edit: it's not EUR, it shows some weird alphabet, Greek I think I'll keep trying!
Edit 2: PHN gave a Dutch interface but Kies refused to update it as well, so I'll keep on trying different codes
So I tried doing the sane thing (instead of checking each code separately and waiting 2-3 minutes for the device to reset) and looked up every code and the corresponding country. Here's what I got:
YOG (Spain)
XEO (Poland)
XEH (Hungary)
VDH (Hungary)
TPH (Portugal)
SUN (Switzerland)
PHN (Netherlands)
OPT (Portugal)
MOZ (Switzerland)
LUX (Luxemburg)
IRD (Slovakia)
FOP (Spain)
EUR (Greece)
CYO (Cyprus)
COS (Greece)
AUT (Switzerland)
ATO (Austria)
No Belgium... Does this mean I will never be able to update my tab?
I tried LUX (which is a neighbouring country and the code that came with the device) and PHN (which uses the same language and is also a neighbouring country) but when connected to KIES both refused to update
its mean you have to flash your firmware or ask from anyone to give you the CSC files that has your country that in case you are rooted and have CWM i doubt you don't have
so
in second chance follow my guide to flash your stock firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
u must download your firmware , from samfirmware.com but before download any one , check if it has your country or no , by this link http://www.samfirmware.com/samfit.htm
start to copy the firmware code from each firmware up there and see if its for your country or no ....
is that so hard ?
Did you buy the tab from a carrier? This configuration looks like it was made by a carrier or a specialised business. Is it a work tab i.e you got it from work.
In your country the out of the box new tabs should be PDA: JMG Phone: JMF CSC: JMG

now he is yours , you are the pro with kies update
lol, I used up all my Google-fu and searched everything I could think of.
Anyway, I know how to root and flash custom firmwares -- I've done it with another Samsung -- but I just wanted to do this one the "official" easy way. But it looks like KIES won't play nice
To answer your question, I won the tab so I didn't buy it from a carrier nor was it SIM-locked. I'll see if I can find a JMG/JMF/JMG .zip somewhere and report back later -- thanks
cannot update out of box
even i purchased a galaxy tab from dubai but when i connected to kies it said my version of device could not be updated. but then i followed this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13682956&mode=linear#post13682956 to install gingerbread and now everything is working fine, market and everything else works fine but the pda field and csc field shows empty when i dial *#1234# .
Both of you have to flash a stock rom and repartition.
But if you have to do that, why not just flash stock gingerbread?

It's the exact same work to upgrade using kies as it is to flash a custom (or stock) rom using odin3 1.7 (or heimdal).
So in what way is it a pain?
u mean to say if i flash my tab with a stock rom then it can be later updated using kies when further updates are available.

I agree -- it's just that I was curious as to why this would happen with an out-of-box stock device.
I know how to use Odin (that is, I know how to follow a tutorial ), I've used it before to flash an Eclair to Froyo, but I'm not sure which ROM to use. I'm on samfirmware.com and downloaded P1000XXJMQ (2.3.3) -- is this the one I should use?
To be honest, I don't even know which samfirmware.com ROM I would need to revert to my current firmware version (PDA:JMG / PHONE:JMA / CSC:JM6)... I think it's either P1000XXJM6 (because of the CSC:JM6) or P1000XWJMG (because of the PDA:JMG)... It's confusing me
So I have 2 questions:
Is P1000XXJMQ a stock Gingerbread?
What ROM do I need in case I want to downgrade to my current firmware? P1000XXJM6 or P1000XWJMG or another one? Edit: I did *#1234# and assume it's P1000XWJMG.
By the way, CSC = Country Sales Code? (just a guess)
Edit: I'm going to flash P1000XXJMQ, I hope I don't brick it, wish me luck I'm a nervous wreck, I drank way too much coffee this morning
Edit 2: the one that samfirmware.com says is JMQ is actually JQ1... still looking for JMQ because I think that's a newer version
Okay, here's an update on what I've done so far and on the outcome...
The link for P1000XXJMQ on SamFirmware was actually P1000XXJQ1 so I went with that one.
According to SamFIT it's for the following regions: Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain; which includes Belgium.
I ran Odin3 v1.7 with Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time; I used PIT file gt-p1000_mr.pit and PDA file P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJPZ_HOME.tar; etc.
Long story short, I'm running Gingerbread but still no sales code for Belgium when I *#272*IMEI#... so KIES keeps refusing to update. It doesn't really matter now because I'm running the latest but I'd like to fix this for future updates.
I searched a lot but I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone give me some advice?

What message does kies state? Is it "latest firmware" or "cannot be updated"?
If it says "latest" then no update yet is available. If "cannot update" then your CSC does not match any firmware combination with samsung...
If you read samfirmware FAQ they have stated that the firmware they post is not official so they don't actually say that samsung recognizes them.

So far it's always been "cannot be updated". I knew it was a CSC problem, I just don't know where to get the right firmware. That's why I asked if P1000XXJMQ is a stock Gingerbread. I'm going to try and find a stock fw and flash it.
Edit: is this the right one: [stock rom][2.3.3] p1000xxjq1 p1000xxjq1 p1000xxjpz ?
JQ1 is stock for Italy

[Q] Manually change CSC

Hi to everyone!.
Like the title says, I want to manually change the CSC of a i9000b to a unlisted one, so after a bit of search I've found this two directories that contains CSC:
-/system/csc/sales_code.dat
-/efs/imei/mps_code.dat
Editing the first one (sales_code.dat) does nothing, and I've fear to edit the second one (mps_code.dat in efs).
So there is any risk of edditing only 'mps_code.dat' and don't mess IMEI number or anything else?
This will change the phone CSC?
With the retail CSC on the phone, I can get a retail firmware update from Kies?
Thanks to all
Have you tried *#272*your imei#
This will give you a selection of csc codes to choose from. If you do pick any of them it will instantly factory reset your phone with no warning.
If you have tried this please explain what you mean by "unlisted" csc code. You mean one that does not have network firmware? If so then CSC will not change your firmware you will have to install another firmware for that (an unbranded firmware).
If you wish to remove the network lock this will not work, you need to get the unlock code, search for that or call your provider and they will do it for you at a cost.
Also i would not advise changing anything in the efs folder, as you mentioned, it could mess up your imei...
Let me know if that helps..

Hi , the point is that I don't have multi CSC (I can't change it by *#272*...*) so I've to change to a 'unlisted' one.
I never say that that will change my firmware, the idea is that with the CSC changed to a retail one, Kies will enable my to update a Retail Firmware to the phone. (or maybe not?, that's the point)

Unfortunately that will not work. If you want retail firmware (unlocked/ non-carrier/ no-network firmware?) then you will have to install that first. If you search for it in the general section you should be able to find it, search for stock firmware. Also you can get it via Sammobile.com Click on firmwares tab (underneath the news link at the top) and follow till you find the stock firmware for you region.

Why it will not work? Can you explain? thanks
CSC i think stands for "country specific code". However even if it doesn't it is a relation to what the code is.
The code identifies the region/country you are in. For example I'm in the UK therefore i have a CSC code of XEU this is a code that is for the EU. Which could affect the signal performance, i may get better or i may get worse or i may get no signal at all. Also I may get 2g signal but no data connection etc. It could also cause issues with receiving SMS messages if the correct or compatible code is not used. For example the time and date may be incorrect, the messages in the list may be out of order (the message you sent is below the reply received).
Therefore it affects your relationship with the carrier and is usually better optimised for your country/region. When you connect to Kies the CSC code is taken into account but so is the actual firmware. By changing the CSC you do not change the firmware to stock firmware it remains carrier/network customised. As such this will be detected by Kies when you connect. If you change the CSC and then connect to Kies I think it does not accept your firmware installed as original authorised firmware, as my CSC was set to KOR after returning from a software reflash from an authorised repair centre. However this may be different for you and I cannot guarantee what will happen but to my knowledge this will not work.
As i mentioned you will need to flash stock firmware yourself or go to a non-carrier authorised repair centre (I used carphone warehouse in the UK) and ask for a software update. You can find your nearest authorised repair centre on the samsung website.
Also if you search you will probably find a better explanation to what CSC is and understand why it won't work, I did my best hope it makes sense
I get your point , instead of CSC I think I was trying to mean Product Code.
By edditing Product Code (and a valid Software revision?) can I cheat Kies to get me a retail update?. Like the old method of editing the registry but on the phone.
Unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to give you an answer on that. But I would think that it would take more than that to trick Kies.
What is holding you back from going to an authorised repair centre or a just using Odin? (Using Odin is actually quite simple provided you follow the steps and have the right files, which Sammobile does provide). You will be left with the retail firmware and Kies will recognise you and provide any updates available.
The problem is that I couldn't find the firmware on samfirmware or any other site. I've found this just now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032437, so maybe I can finally get the official upgrade.
Sorry to bring this back up, but my CSC is blank too.
I typed in the *#272*your imei# and the option for sales code VOD came up. I selected it, but it tells me that "Must be THREE chars". VOD is three characters. Why cant I select it???
Hi
I live in holland, so i don't have the 4.0.4 update yet. If i change my CSC, does it change region so i can download the 4.0.4 update?
thanks in advance

[Q] Present, past and still a future (with no product code)?

Hello,
I am new to mess around with mobile phones and Android and (therefore) also managed to bring my girlfriend's GT-I8190 phone to a non-working state. Although there are lots of information in this forum I am more confused than sure what to do. I hope to get here some help / information / explanation.
Past
The phone was bought in Germany and had probably a German firmware. But I do not know, since no connections to Kies or whatsoever and no backups where done earlier. After a error of Android (e:\ failed to mount or something similar) which blocked the phone on the startup logo of the non-modyfied S3 mini, my guess for a quick solution was to flash the firmware with Odin to a new(er) German version. I downloaded (from a German forum) and flashed successfully several versions (supposedly OXA). But with all version the network connection hasn't practically worked. Only very weak and only at a few locations. Once I used in desperation also a so called stock-recovery from somewhere.
Present
I visited a shop where the uber-friendly Samsung service overwrote the firmware first with the general and later with the LaFleur version (PDA: XXAMG4, CSC: QXXA MH1). Kies tells me the CSC is somehow a VE1 version (what country is that code for - moon?). But the problem hasn't changed.
I still have the original IMEI, but I'm missing the baseband and, what worries me more: no product code. I managed to read it out only with "CheckFus" which says only: Not Active1
Future ?
Since I probably haven't used the right firmware at least once, I am hesitating to do more. My ideas are as following: modem, firmware, baseband.
What is the best way to proceed? Is there still a easy solution? I don't mind to change to another version - no stock firmware is required. Am I close to have a 4" tablet?
Any answer is appreciated - thanks!

Try to flash this firmware : http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=18114 via odin3 it's a i8190XXAMG4 (DBT) firmware it also include modemfs (modem) then try to upgrade your baseband to XXAMG4.

I8190XXAMG4 / QXXAMH1 is a German La Fleur firmware. I have no idea why your CSC seems to be messed up. It should probably be DBT.
What does it say if you dial *#1234# in dialer?
Thanks for the infos so far.
I did not intend to link to the LaFleur version in the first post.
Do I need the root recovery for the baseband update?
With the 1234 code I get:
AP: I8190 XXAMG4
CP: XXXX
CSC: I8190 QXXAMH1
I think this is the same as mentioned before. I checked the origin of the files I used before on this mobile and it is possible that I used this a recovery file which may be for a 8190N (I cannot post the outside link yet). I did not read careful enough the thread linking to this file.
Can this be the origin for the messed CSC version and the missing product code?
Looks like you're without baseband.
Take a look at this thread and flash a modem for i8190.

Happy end
Hello again,
firstly: Problem is solved - phone works properly. Thanks for the replies and to tys0n for the work with the files and the support - acutally doing the job of Samsung and google.
For the sake of completeness, I will tell what I did, if any unexperienced user (as I still am) will ever come across this thread:
I tried first just the standard firmware AMG4 from Sammobile (which is linked above) and afterwards the baseband files - but both did not help as expected.
I installed CWM and used the file from here and miraculously it was working (The phone is used only in 2G). Later I wiped the data and flashed again with the AMG4 firmware to have a clean version now.
AP, CP, CSC say all XXAMG4 now, Kies recognizes it as DBT (as supposed to). But the product code, which came back and was read out with CheckFus, says I8490 RWA XSE. This should be Indonesia, correct? Is there still an inconsistency somewhere?
Thanks again for the help

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F/DS 64gb doesn't receive any updates in UK

Hi All, I really need some help. First post. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F/DualSim from eBay in mint condition for £285 a few months back. Works perfectly. Waited until end of March but no Android 9 One UI update. Realised I hadn't got ANY updates what so ever since I got it. Contacted Samsung and they say because it is from a different region it can't be updated in the UK. I find this extremely unfair. I use a Blackberry Key2 as my main phone and Note 8 as a second phone which I don't always carry. Use it more to surf and watch videos with once I get home.
I have never rooted or Odined or anything else before so am not too excited about any of that stuff. I just need the simplest tutorial there is to get my phone to update and to continue to update if that is possible. I am currently on Android Oreo 8.0 and security patch August 2018!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Dial *#1234# in phone dialer. Look at the CSC line and look for "OXM" in the line eg. N950F"OXM"5CSA2. If you see that then:
Read page 1:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3677072
To find your CSC:
You can go to system settings/ about phone/software information/ service providers SW ver. (Look for something like this example TPA/TPA/XEU , should be last line in that section. Yours might be different but it should be in this format CSC/CSC/CSC .)
2nd spot TPA is the your carrier CSC (set by your sim card.)
3rd Spot XEU is where your phone is from.
So look at the second spot for your CSC code.
So know you have the:
Model of note 8 : SM-N950F or SM-N950F/DS (doesn't matter firmware is for both phones.)
The multi-CSC firmware OXM
And your CSC code.
Now you have 3 choices:
1) Connect phone to PC and use smart switch to update phone (if there is one for your csc). This will keep data intacted!
2) You can use samfirm.exe on PC to download the firmware for your model phone and CSC and use the latest Odin to update.
Use "Home-CSC" file to keep data intacted!
Warning DO NOT use "csc" file this DELETE DATA! (Or you
want to delete data.)
3) Use samfirm.exe to download the firmware for any CSC that's in that multi-CSC OXM that's listed in that thread I posted and latest Odin.
Use "Home-CSC" file to keep data intacted! This will keep
your CSC the same!
Warning DO NOT use "csc" file this DELETE DATA! (Or you
want to delete data.)
Now you might need to Odin everytime the new update or you might be lucky and you'll get the OTA.
I have the N950F in Canada and I get OTA update here, maybe because my 3 csc code is XEU/XEU/XEU(your will be different! )(because the multi-CSC oxm doesn't support my carrier csc so it stays default XEU/XEU/XEU. )
Your case maybe different so I would get used to using Samfirm.exe and Odin to update your phone.
Or you can always wait and see if you get the OTA, your choice!
If you don't have the OXM or do you can go to
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950F/
To look what country the CSC belongs to (CSC in this case is the 3rd spot in this eg. XEU/XEU/XEU)
Eg XEU is UK/Ireland
XSG is United Arab Emirates
Hi,
I had exactly the same issue; bought a Note 8 on ebay last year (also in mint condition) - it's a Dual SIM model also. But mine had not had a security update since March 2018. Like you I contacted Samsung support and was told that there isn't anything they can do. One suggestion was to send the phone to its country of origin so that it can pick up security updates OTA - not really an option for me...
I bit the bullet today and followed the procedure set out by BluePhnx. The whole process took about 1 hour. I was taking my time because I have never attempted anything similar before. Everything worked great and I now have Android Pie with Samsung One UI More importantly the security version is March 2019. All my apps and data are intact and S-Pen continues to work great.
Thanks BluePhnx for the guide.
Best,
TB

Note 9 SM-N960F/DS Firmware problem.

I have a Note 9 SM-N960F/DS model. I bought it from KSA (Saudi Arabia). The phone came with Android Pie (9) out of the box.
Unfortunately my friend rooted my phone and now i am running on "N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA/N960FXXU3ASF1" version with "Security patch level: 1 June 2019". I am unable to use my Samsung account and all the security features (finger print, Ratina scanner, Face recognition etc).
When i switch back to original firmware i.e
PDA N960FXXU3CSG1
CSC N960FOXM3CSG1
i got all the features functioning but my SIM card shows "Emergency calls only".
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, My friend took my phone and told me that he will make it compliant with our local network and make it approved from the Telecommunication authority.
He has downgraded the phone with older firmware version i.e N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA,N960FXXU3ASF1. The security patch level is 1 June 2019
I have checked the Knox e-fuse which is not tripped which means its an official ROM and not altered.
Now, i have the latest firmware version downloaded i.e N960FXXS3CSG1 but when i try to install it in my phone it does not recognize my SIM card and phone is in "Emergency calls Only" state.

not sure how you check knox but if he really rooted then its too late and knox cannot state cant be reverted.
typically checking via software is not a good method . going to download mode and checking warranty state 0x0 means is not tripped. anything different means it been tripped/blown.
anyways that dosen't make you phone have no signal though.
i suspect he screwed up the twrp recovery flash procedure for twrp and botched the flash back to stock via odin.
read up on odin and how to use it. get latest version.(search and read)
read up so on how to get latest firmware for your phone and which csc your carrier is so that you can download the correct firmware and have best results for your sim carrier.( in doubt try BTU csc firmware)(but search and read about the subject of phone types firmwares and CSC)
also the firmwares your quoted seem old. not sure why you ended up using it but you should get one that is from july.
E.G.:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N960F/BTU/
(get the most recent! july 25th)( u can dl odin from there too)
on your PC, install samsung android drivers or simply install samsung smart switch. it will install the necessary components.
in it self smart switch can flash firmware automatically for your device. so you might want to try it first.
if you go towards the odin flash route and found the correct firmware or want to try BTU multi csc as suggested above:
put phone in download mode and unzip on PC firmware and flash with odin BL,AP,CP and CSC. But for csc choose csc.md5 instead of home_csc.md5
(be patient while AP is being checked before adding cp and csc)
edit: details steps on odin flashing procedure below

1. Extract (un-rar) the firmware file (i.e. to folder c:\Odin) ***
2. Download Odin v3.13.1
3. Extract Odin ZIP file (i.e. to folder c:\Odin)
4. Open Odin v3.13.1
5. Power OFF Note9
6. Reboot Phone in Download Mode (1st plug-in USB-cable to your Note9!!!, push Bixby + Volume Down buttons, while pushing them plug-in USB-cable to PC
7. Wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
8. Add the firmware files to their designated slots
9. Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
10. Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes

last but not least don't listen to your friend or let him close to your phone again. reading and searching on xda is much better. everything has been already asked. you just need to search for it.

I haven't try SmartSwitch for N9 but worth to try as it should be able to detect proper csc for your phone.
Else find the latest firmware for your phone with Frija/Samfirm then flash with odin.

well may be your friend tried to change IMEI of phone which is illegal in any country. Match your IMEI with box by dialing *#06#, if IMEI are same then no need to worry. you need to register your phone IMEI with PTA by paying tax. after paying tax they will whitelist the IMEI of your phone and you will be able to make calls.
just for information, my note 9 is also brought from Saudi Arabia, but at that time one device was free, so i got my phone registered by providing my travel details to PTA and they whitelisted my phone.
Please guide me solution.
