Hi, I have a newbie question for you:
I have an unlocked Telcel (Mexican network) galaxy ace; on the 'About Phone' screen it says 5830M. I also have a Telstra (Australian network) version, a 5830T. Is there anyway to 'un-telcel' or 'un-telstra' these galaxy aces? Perhaps by flashing a stock ROM?
I'm asking because I'm having a problem with the Telcel ace. I've tried a couple of Australian SIM cards (vodafone and Telstra) and even though I can make calls etc., for some reason the phone can't access the contacts on the SIM card. Is this because it's a Mexican phone, or is there just something wrong with this particular unit?

I'm not sure about a way to 'un-telcel' or 'un-telstra' your Galaxy Ace. But I might have a solution to your SIM contacts not being accessible. The entire contact is in your SIM card but for them to be displayed into your phone, you just have to import them. Go to Contacts>Contact Settings>Import from SIM card. That's it. It will import all the SIM contacts to your phone. You will be now able to see all your contacts. Hope I Helped
Thanks, but when I click 'Import/Export' I see a blank page. And it shouldn't be necessary. I didn't have to import anything with other phones.

I don't know why clicking Import/Export takes you to a blank page. Usually there should be an option "Import from SIM Card" which could be used to solve this situation. You can also use Google Contacts to sync you contacts to your phone. Sadly Ace can't see SIM contacts directly. You could also try re-flashing the stock rom. Maybe it will solve the branding problem. Do post the result. Hope I Helped

S5830M is a variant of the S5830i. So flash a Rom from the other section.

I meant that after I select 'Import from SIM card' and then choose to save contact to phone or my google account, I get a search field above a screen that's blank except an icon and the words, 'no contacts.'
I've used several Aces, and this wasn't an issue with any other unit. No importing was necessary. So yes, the ACE does indeed 'see SIM contacts directly.'

Sadly I never got Ace to see my SIM contacts directly. But I always use Google Contact sync which solves my problem. You can try flashing an S5830i rom as user envy suggested

You lost me there, my sim card work in every other phone (i guess, certainely in my nokia 6220) but in my sim locked tab
did you say you can send and receive text with the sim card in the tablet?
then it is not sim locked for that card.
If it is locked, none of that is possible.
yes i can receive and text after trying those unlocking methods, i even get calls logs: when someone calls me, he get busy number and i get notified about it
before unlocking it, the tabs asks for a pin code, then it doesn't read the sim card at all
when trying to call now (after i unlocked it) i get this message:
Sorry, but the SIM you are using with your Samsung Galaxy Tab does not allow you to make voice calls.

seems like Orange detects your IMEI and know it is a tablet and doesn't allow calls.
It has nothing to do with SIM lock on the Galaxy Tab.
It it were SIM locked, you simply can't do anything related to mobile network.
Maybe you can make emergency calls (if I am not mistaken)
sorry for not explaining very well, actually ornge is the original operator who provided the tab, and i am using now a different sim card, which works fine with other phones
i think that message i m getting means somehow that the tab is still locked by orange
sorry, cant help there.
Unless you want to try HyperDroid ROM?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444240
says it has SIM unlock built in.
hi, i am trying to get my HyperDroid Rom
first step is to backup my Rom and apps..
I am using "roto backup"
From my laptop (w7) running a cmd and using adb;
The process is stuck here for about an hour now, and the tab home screen is freezed:
adb shell su -c "dd if=/dev/block/bm112 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096"
Click to collapse
should i wait more?
is that your very first line?
In mine, way back, when I did roto backup,
I notice that adb shell su actually causes the superuser apps to wait for my confirmation to allow it.
So, step 1 is to make sure you have superuser app
second is when you issue each adb shell su command, check your tab screen and when superuser pops up, click allow
open up the phone dialer and type:
--------------------
*#7465625#
--------------------
this shows your Tab P1000 Network Lock Status.
Check also in Settings ->about Phone -> Status: are your SN and IMEI shown?

Hi, you have just to look in the settings for unable phone calls, I don't really remember where is it, but am pretty sure its there (froyo 2.2) because just like you, i had this problem before, and i did the unlocking process 4 times before i find out about this config.
just go the setting and then look for (Unable phone calls) in call settings or wireless and network, you should find it somewhere !

I tried to use my sim card that i bought at singapore on my friend's samsung tab it can be used. But in my xt883 it cannot.
Is there anyone can help me.
It your sim card because I'm using same ROM XT883 on my Droid 3 in India, both CDMA and GSM networks are working perfectly.
please help me
i think it's not because of my sim card, cause when i tried the same sim card on samsung galaxy tab it works fine.
i've tried so many sim card, both gsm or cdma simcard but still cannot.
it always no service, and emergency call only
i've tried to root, but still doesn't work
please help me, cause now i'm at indonesia for work, and i cannot use my phone.
Well what you can do if possible flash the XT883 ROM, I think your phone is showing a Android logo on screen and in below two option only Emergency call and Change language. Whenever you touch the the Android logo the phone ask you to activated, right.
if you are using new version of xt883, it will be hard,such as when you bought it, it is already android 2.3.4 above;
but if you are under 2.3.4, do as following:
open your dailer, dail
*#*#2468#*#*
it will look like nothing happen, just reboot your phone. then you should be able to use any sim /uim card.
but if you got a phone higher than 2.3.4, you will have to downgrade it to the very original version, and repeat the "2468" step
good luck !

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 for 3 years now. I flashed different roms and did root my phone in all these years. But... now i received a new sim card which works well in other phones but NOT in my ace. So that must be a problem with my ace.. I just flashed back to the stock rom (XEN - Netherlands S5830XENKS1) via ODIN but the problem is still there, i can't use my sim-card: "Emergency only".
I already wiped data and cleared cache, hard reset... nothing works. What could i try to have my phone back working with sim card so i can call, sms and use my dataplan. My phone have no simlock i checked and the IMEI is also the right. The one shown by #06# is the same as printed behind my battery. I also received a new sim card from my provider, but this one also has the same problem.
I hope you guys can help me out! :good::good::good:
UPDATE 1: I tried differend sim cards in the phone. I always used to have T-Mobile as provider. All other simcards are not working, theyre showing up for a few seconds and after that it says: Emergency calls only. When i put in a T-Mobile sim card the provider keeps displayed, so it looks like my phone only works with a t-mobile card. But it's not sim locked, because i also used differend sim cards before..
UPDATE 2: Now my simyo simcard also connects and i can sms, call and internet. But after a few seconds/minutes again the message: Emergency calls only
WHAT COULD THIS PROBLEM BE??!!??! Strange.............. I really hope someone can help me out this

Hello, thanks for your reply! No, my warranty is not active anymore. My phone is 3 years old. Today i went to another city and could call and sms the whole day. No internet. When i came home, i received again the message: emergency only. How strange.. I also could'nt find a good rom or firmware to flash back my phone to the full original software and firmware... Can someone help me on that? I need the newest firmware for the samsung galaxy ace s5830, netherlands version. Or maybe a custom rom which is the most used and stable version. I would like to exclude software reasons, so it might be a hardware problem. But i think it's a software fault cause of the different roms i tried on the phone.

Again flashed the original firmware to my Ace. Wiped data and cleared cache. Everything works..... Except... the simcard. Can't call, can't sms and can't make an internet connection. So, still the same problem. The sim works well in another phone, and another simcard in the Ace gives also "Emergency call only". So it HAS to be something with my phone. Someone any idea's i can try / check now i'm very sure it's a phone problem with original new flashed firmware? I hope it's not an hardware defect......... how can i check?
UPDATE: The only simcard which works well is a T-Mobile prepaid simcard. All other simcards sometimes shows up, but most of the time not. The more strange fact is today: I went to another city and was able to call and sms the whole day. But no internet. When i came home, i received again the message: emergency only. This is so strange and makes me very sad. The phone is simlockfree, WHAT COULD IT BE So strange............
Tomorrow i had internet connection, could call and sms. My provider was shown on the screen and nothing wrong. But unfortunately just for a few minutes... No stable connection.
Someone any idea? :crying:
I too faced this problem once.....What I did is that I just formatted the system , wiped data , cache , sd ext and dalvik cache and then restored a backup of my earlier ROM in which the Sim was working ! And it was fixed....

i hope they fix this one asap
You dont have any choice other than visiting the service centre. Yes they may charge you a good amount but seems none of the methods are working.
Also try contacting your service provider maybe thay know the exact reason.

Hi
I have an unlocked P970, it recognizes my Sim card but there is no bar and it says "Not registered on network". Sim card works on other phones and it even shows my contacts on my phone and change the language and date to my provider when I insert it. I've checked the IMEI and it's correct.
Android version:2.3.4
Baseband version: XMM6160
Software version: V20C
I've tried checking 2945#*970# but all options say "Your phone is not personalized".
I did factory reset but no luck.
I deleted the Entire CP and flashed again and still no luck.
Checked a few other V10 and V20 versions, didn't help. I got security error when tried V30 versions so I switched back to V20.
I also tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734330
Can anyone help?
Thanks alot
Try asking your current Network Carrier or even flash back to stock LG and ask LG themselves. Sorry if it seems obvious or doesn't help... Good luck bud!

Okay...and what if you try to manually register the phone on your network, by choosing it manually?
KU5900 with no mobile connection
Hi everybody!
I hope to be in the correct thread, because i have a problem similar to Exergy.
A friend of mine has a locked/original KU5900 (korean version with 2.2.2) that he used without problem with the korean SIM, in Korea and in Germany.
Now he's in Germany and with a german SIM (that works in other phones) the phone has no mobile connection, neither the possibility to send SMS (only receive them, and make and receive calls).
We tried to download the configuration SMS from O2, but it tells that is not possible tried also to use APN Global from the playstore, and tried to configure manually...but also doesn't work...
Any idea?
Hiya!
Hate to be a pest, i did use the search button, but to no avail!
I got a used i8190n that works perfectly fine in all aspects except for registering for a mobile network! and that is for calls and sms services only, as the mobile data, 2g and 3g both work well!
there are similar cases posted on the forum, but none that replicate my case exactly: i did try different roms, different sim cards, mobile data works but no calls or sms! total mistery!
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a bunch, cheers!

BUMP!
Tried a few ROMs from different regions, none of them show any signs of improvement!
Funny enough, all of them display 'Not connected to network' message when trying to place a call, all the way until i started flashing different modems, and all of them started showing the dialling screen for a split second, and then display the 'call ended' screen, but that only happens with the XXALL3 modem!
any help would be greatly appreciated from here, any better modems out there?
Thanks!

hi
the phone is carrier unlocked, as per the service menu, and according to the imei it's in the the UK region, i tried flashing Vodafone, EE, O2 UK roms and stock generic, even an asian one, just in case, no success!
upon reading some more, i looked into the efs folder (and made a copy of it), it's missing the nv_dat etc files, any idea if i can just get an efs folder off another phone and copy it in, or how would i go around all those files missing? i tried the 'NV rebuild' didn't help either!
thanks a million!

Its not advised to (fully) replace the efs partition (folder/files) with one from another device. The efs partition contains your IMEI, among other vital data, which is unique. Since you have a backup (make sure its a proper one or better few), you might try to replace the efs partition with one from another device (I8190N) to see if thats the cause of your problem (restoring backup if not). However, you have to change the IMEI manually after replacing the efs partition with the one thats initially assigned to the device.
great stuff, thanks!
btw, when i said i backed-up the efs folder, that's a 13kb efs folder, which is no good as far as i know
googling for an efs folder for i8190N brings me here first, and than here
and none of them really work for me, i tried the modemfs file, no luck.
any idea where i can find a good i8190N efs folder and, if the swap works, how can than edit my IMEI into it?
thanks!
And again...

yep, tried a EE card in it, no result. the new o2 sim didn't work either, so it's gotta be the phone!

I cant believe there is no solution to this problem. I can't believe the risks of rooting and customizing a phone may be so great... it *IS* possible to definitely brick a device after all...
So i suppose I am yet another guy who lost their phone playing with these #¤%"#¤% ROMs on XDA.
I'd like to know how your story ended.
