Cracked screen on my Kindle fire HD 7 1st edition - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, my kindle fire HD 7 inches 2012 edition just had a crack alongside the diagonal of the screen. Touch still works, but its a bit distracting as you can imagine. I bought in in december of 2012 from amazon.és and i didn't choose to buy 2 year insurance... Is there anything i can do ? Are there any shops that repair cracked screens at a cheap price? Thanks for your help

You can probably find a replacement on ebay but i don't think it will be cheap, i think i remember hearing that the digitizer is part of the lcd screen so it would be replacing both components, might have to get someone to verify that i'm correct about that though. Hooking up the new one is pretty straight forward usually, just some ribbon cables that are plugged into the motherboard, you just have to be careful with it because the parts are delicate. I remember last time i ruined a phone because my screwdriver slipped and went through 3 layers of microfiber cables that went to the lcd screen, bu that was a pre-smartphone so know one cares xD.

The digitizer is the LCD. Finding one used is the best advice. There tend to be bricked ones for sale for dirt cheap with a good screen. Amazon don't usually replace screens unless it's a paid warranty fix.

Kindle Fire HD case on N7 ?

This new case for the kindle fire 7" seems to be the real deal, do you guys think it will fit the Nexus 7 ?
Here's the link...

Doubt it. Isn't it a 8.9" screen so it should be noticeably bigger in size.

the link attached is to the 7" version kindle fire hd
I sure hope someone, somewhere comes out with a decent case. Of seems everyone else making 7 inch tablets or EReaders seems to come out with very nice slime cover/cases ((Samsung, amazon kindles, hell even kobo). It has been long enough already.

I doubt this case will work N7. This shell case looks like a exact fit for Fire HD7, plus ports and controls are in totally different location.

I guess the kindle fire hd is 7.6" x 5.4" x 0.4" (193 mm x 137 mm x 10.3 mm) grabbed from amazon sale page
while the nexus 7 is 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm (Quote google specs page)
very close in size so some cases may fit each other
but i think anything thats gonna be a perfect fit for one probably won't fit the other
edit*: actually with 2/3rds of an inch difference in width I would say it's definitly not gonna fit
:[ This would be otherwise perfect for what I want for my N7 tho
The N7 is a bit longer than the Fire, this case won't fit. Besides that, the speaker is covered, and I'm sure the power and volume rocker would be as well.

Nexus 7 compatible with Kindle Fire?

Hey guys, lately I've been looking around for cases and screen protector's for my Nexus 7. I saw this sale for Kindle Fire cases and decided to try one out. It turns out that the case fit almost perfectly (except that it covered the head phone jack). I also bought a Kindle Fire screen protector and it covered the screen perfectly without covering the light sensor and camera. So let me ask you this, would you buy stuff that's compatible with your Nexus 7 that's cheaper? Or would you rather purchase something that's made specifically for your Nexus 7 that's more expensive?

[Q] Nexus One housings on eBay?

Hi guys,
Just got my hands on a quite used N1 from my friend, and is thinking of replacing the full housing.
After looking at pictures on eBay and subsequently asking the sellers, I found that many of the housings on sale are fully plastic. I aware that the front frame of the N1 is metal, so I would like to ask you guys if you know anywhere (eBay or elsewhere) that sells the metal housing for a reasonable price?
Cheers

Thanks! But the one that appears at the top of the list shares the exact same photo as the one I inquired on eBay, which the seller said its made of "plastic-like synthetic material" the real metal ones that I found are either refurbished or carries an exorbital price (USD40+ for the front frame alone).

I have a at&t nexus one that I was going to sell body is in good shape ill do 60 shipped has desktop dock? Let meknow

That's a really good deal, I paid around $110 for a beat up one with dock, but that was 7+ months ago with 2 batteries, all accessories and box, still working perfect and its working great to this day. I'd like to get a replacement housing to paint flat black but I'm scared to take it apart.
Thanks for the offer, I really wants to get it, but I live a bit too far away, in New Zealand which might be hard for you to ship to. Guess I'll have to live with cheap plastic knockoffs...

[Q] Replace Screen Only

I have a verizon g2 that works except for the lcd.
I went to ebay and amazon and they sell lcd + digitizer for like 100$.
But I only need to replace lcd only.
Is there any site that sells lcd only for a cheap price?
Oh, I have a white one.

From what I've seen it's a bit challenging to separate the two because of how they are glued together.

So whether the digitizer is broken or not I should just buy the 100$ one and fix?

I was watching this vid - the piece on the bubble wrap is a new screen/digitizer, they are glued together, you'd need to get the digitizer off without breaking it. It's possible I guess, just there's a risk of cracking the glass while separating them.
Lcd is the expensive part anyway, just buy them fused.

Fire screen replacement? Help, please!

Are there replacement screens available for this tablet yet?
Looking on Amazon is quite confusing considering there's like 5 gens of this tablet and some of the screens for sale don't specify what gen it is for. [emoji27]
Can anybody point me in the right direction, please?

It's a $50 / $35 on sale tablet. I wouldn't expect anyone to sell replacement screens for it. Just not worth the cost & effort to most people. So the market may be too small.
Have you disassembled your fire to see how hard a replacement would be? I looked at removing the motherboard on mine a while ago. The board is attached with adhesive! In addition to screws. And one needs to be extremely careful of flexing the board since it has BGA chips.
That's gonna suck if noone sells replacements. I haven't taken it apart, but I imagine I can handle doing so if I do get a replacement screen.

I wonder if any of the other 7" amazon tablet screens would fit this one..?

So no screen replacements are available for this tablet? Is there any hope that there ever will be?
It is only my glass and not the digitizer that's broken. I actually have access to glass and glass cutting tools...lol, I wonder if I can just cut my own glass for a replacement..?
Anyone know if this is possible?

Encountering the same problem, I searched the tablet serial number with "amazon fire screen repair -kindle" and ifixit<dot>com resulted. There is a detailed tear-down of the entire tablet including part numbers and links for the glass.
Look on eBay and search for people who are selling bricked devices of you tablet to see if you can get a discount and just switched the motherboard over. Amazon doesn't sell the 5th gen of the fire 7 anymore and the 7th gen shell doesn't fit the old board
