Hey, I was thinking before the big KK update to make a flashable backup of the current stock but rooted ROM that's on my XZR, locked BL. Any ideas? Aka the total backup, prerooted ftf. Any ideas?

Just take a nandroid backup via CWM before upgrading ,then when you decide to go back ,just flash the 4.2.2/4.1.2 FW using flashtool ,root it & install recovery ,then restore your nandroid backup
I think what the TS wanted was to backup his current firmware that's stock and rooted, before the upcoming KK update, so he can easily flash it back if he's unhappy with KK. I understand this sentiment because I held out for so long with 4.3. I recently updated to 4.4.4 (rather forced because my phone got stuck in a bootloop with no other way but to use Sony's PC Companion to fix it) but was unhappy with KK (some of my apps stopped working or worked inconsistently, and KK prevented apps from saving to the external sdcard) so I had to download the 4.3 ftf to be able to go back to 4.3. If I had backed-up my 4.3 then, I wouldn't have had to download a possibly different region's version of it. So now, prior to lollipop being rolled out for the ZR, I'm looking for a way to do just what the TS wanted to do. I hope somebody posted a guide somewhere here in xdadevelopers.
I also backup all my apps and settings with titanium backup

Hi everyone,
I have Sony Xperia Z C6603 with 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware
I am new to this and I want to do:-
1.Root my device to backup the DRM keys using Backup TA
2.Then, unlock bootloader
3.Install CWM(maybe)
Any help will be appreciated.
You will have to downgrade to root and backup DRM keys.
More info and detailed instructions - How to root 4.3.

Will I lose my data if I downgrade it?
You will probably have to wipe data when you downgrade, as sometimes the phone bootloops if data isn't wiped. You can try without wiping, but you may end up wiping.
Personal data and the internal SD card are wiped when unlocking the bootloader in any case.

Alright, thanks for the infos.
Wish me luck :good:

I backed up all my data using PC companion, can I restore it back after rooted my phone and with locked bootloader?
I'm not sure, as I never used the backup feature of the PC Companion. I use Titanium Backup personally.

well actually you want to unlock bootloader for installing 4.4 ROM /Custom Kernels ?
If you only want to root, you will just need to download the Android 4.2.2 firmware 10.3.1.A.2.67 for C6603,then flash it using flashtool ( make sure you backed up all your apps using built-in Backup & restore app & save it in microSD card)
Next root it using DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit, that's all.
You can choose to install CWM / TWRP / XZDualRecovery
Then you can only download the pre-rooted Android 4.3 ROM
For me i'm using XZDualRecovery with eXistenZUltra ROM
Hope you understand

I followed this two threads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/stock-update-to-10-4-b-0-569-t2565850
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/stock-update-to-10-4-1-b-0-101-t2643898
Now I have rooted phone with the latest 4.3 and also XZDualRecovery.
I am happy with the stock rom and kernel now so I skipped unlocking bootloader. Or maybe I will consider eXistenZUltra rom, seems awesome.

Hi!
Quick question for using a rooted firmware. If I back-up all my data with Sonys Backup service to my sd-card, will I be able to use that app again on the rooted stock rom that I downloaded from here on XDA? All done on a locked bootloader.
Thanks in advance!
There are no rooted FTF files available. FTFs are unmodified stock firmware packages. You will find that the prerooted roms available are in zip form and require flashing via a custom recovery.
As for restoring backups made by the Sony tool, you should be able to, as long as your backup is from the same firmware version. You cannot restore backups made on 4.2.2 on a 4.3 rom, for instance.

i don't recommend you to unlock bootloader as there's many steps to do which takes time.
so you will just need to downgrade to 4.2.2 firmware by flashing the ftf, then root it & install custom recovery, after that flash a pre-rooted 4.3 rom.

now im downloading (C5502) 10.4.B.0.569 tft files and flash it via flashtool, then im gonna try to again if my phone will boot or not.
@Ben Ling
I am new this rooting to. And I want to install a custom rom on my Xperia ZR. How do I downgrade to the previous ROM? Do I just use the flash tool? Is it necessary to backup my TA partition during this process or can I do it when I am about to root the device? Thanks!

download the 4.2.2 ftf, flash it then root it & install recovery
then flash custom rom (only based on 4.3 & stock firmware)
Thank you
So basically these are the steps which I need to perform
1)Download and run flash tool
2)Download the correct ftf and flash it via flash tool
3)Root the phone using doomlord's vroot kit
4)Backup the TA partition
5)Unlock the bootloader
6)Install custom rom
Please confirm if these are the steps to be followed
Thanks!
If you only want root you dont need to unlock bootloader and backup TA.

I live in India so would there be an India specific rom(Stock) for my phone?
@Ben Ling I rooted my zr by flashing 4.1.2 . I have also backed up the TA partition. Can you please suggest any good ROMS now? What should I choose stock based ROMS or AOSP roms like Carbon?
Also, If I want to come back to stock ROM(4.3) again what should I do?
Thanks!

if you want 4.4,then just try the carbon rom
for 4.3,try this.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726463
for back to stock, you will just need to backup your current 4.3 rom, then if you want to restore, just restore
but the backup will only restore by using the same recovery that you backup.
@Ben Ling Thankyou! One more question before I installed the 4.3 ROM which you mentioned, do I need to unclock the bootloader to install the ROM?

Hi guys,
I've rooted my Z1, installed CWM and unlocked my bootloader (TA-backup present). Everything seems fine.
Exept for the fact that I cannot find a custom rom with the features i specifically want (as close to stock as possible, without bloatware, but with all the Sony Camera features) and therefore I would like to go back to the original 757 firmware that I had before I rooted my phone,
I do want to keep my CWM recovery, and need root acces (ie SuperSU)
I'm lookin for the Original Sony 4.4.2 757 rom which i can flash through CWM
Can anyone please help me?
Regards,
Tiemen
Edit: I see that theres a new 4.4.4 firmware. If possible I would like the stock rom for this one.

Thanks for your reply!
I'm not familiar with FTF files. I believe I need the flashtool for that, but I have no experience with it.
Will I lose CWM and Root functionality?

Certainly you will lose both root access and CWM when you flash
Search 'how to flash by Flash Tools' in your own language
Be warned that you will also all stuffs which are in Internal Memory, like files, messages, photos, movies, etc
Take a backup
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Download the 4.4.4 stock firmware (FTF file) and flash via Flashtool. Ensure that you untick the Wipe data option in Flashtool, before you flash. This way, your user data will be intact after the flashing. And yes, you'll need to reroot (can use this tool) and install recovery again.
Thanks for your info!
I will start reading about the flashtool and will try asap.
Lets hope I won't get an expensive paper weight :silly:
If I want to go to full stock again (ie Relock Bootloader and no root), Do I need to flash FTF, then restore TA-partitions and I'm all done? Or do I need to root it before I can restore TA?

Tiemen

You'll need root before you can use the Backup-TA tool to restore. Do read the FAQ of the thread for the tool.
Hi guys,
I managed to install the original 108 fw through FlashTool.
Also using the root tool suggested I got my root access back!
Thank you guys for your support!
Now It's exactly to my liking!

I wanted to just drop a nandroid from the 4.3 to the 5.0 but after rooting (using drphone) then installed twrp from play store, downloaded safestrap which unnistalled old version and installed new version but still cant boot into the menu to do a nandroid restore/backup. I can get into recovery with the pwer/volup/home button but there are no options to backup/restore. I have been just using titanium backup to restore most of my stuff but man that is slow and painfull...
any help appreciated.
I suggest the forum for your model AT&T not this one .

TWRP cannot be used on either phone as the bootloaders are locked.
TWRP works fine in the 4.3 phone. so, what are my options to be able to make and restore nandroids in the 5.0 phone and keep root?
Ask in the forum for your model .

Your n900a has a 4.3 bootloader and TWRP? That's really interesting to me as I didn't think TWRP would work with a 4.3 bootloader as I thought AT&T locked the bootloader starting with 4.3.
Yes, as stated. So what are my options so I can make nandroid backups/restores and still be in 5.0? At this time restoring the 4.3 backup in the 5.0 is not as needed as I have configured and installed about 90% of what I needed but I love to think I can do backups.
Probably but you should ask in the forum for your phone .
Repeat this is not your phones forum and information on here kay not be relevabt or brick your phone.
