So i discovered the october ota update actually locked the Safesearch filtering option in the youtube app (it's all grayed out). Are there any ways to fix this besides just searching the vids thru the m.youtube site? It annoys me, cuz i can't find my favorite music video cuz it has 'Dickhead ' in the title!

Might try and uninstall it and get one from another build. Shocked others havent noticed. I dont use it much myself so never noticed. Just checked the one on froyo and its not locked.
Yep, AT&T blocked this. See below for the app from a Fascinate dump. I removed the AT&T one, pushed this using ADB. It's unblocked.
Enjoy!
Thanks for that definitely worked to downgrade the youtube app, but did i lose the HQ button with the old version?

Never noticed this but yes. I never use the app anyway. You could always flash Froyo and use a browser with Flash.

Also I've seen this being an issue on HTC Evo on Sprint, and also one of Motorola's Droids on Verizon so is/was every carrier doing this? It's pretty pathetic. I mean I get the idea of SafeSearch for kids but to have that turned on for everyone? Oh no I might see a video with a swear word! I'm not a child, and the "Being a Dickhead's cool" song is hardly offensive anyway. PS funny song by the way.
1.6.20(E) seems to be having this in every version. I guess the E stands for "emasculated". None of the other Youtube versions seem have the (E).

When I ask Corporate America to become my parent or protect me from evil, you'll be sure to see it in the headlines. Until then, I have two great parents, who have taught me right from wrong and how to act in public and etc.. I don't need some third party to protect me from the evils of the internet.
Give me my uncensored internet! And thanks for the fix Cappysw10!
So I went back to 1.6.20(emasculated) edition and will use the work around to search youtube's mobile site instead of through the app. But what I'm planning to do is try to talk to Samsung about this because I want to see the response. The HTC people have been blaming Sprint about this. But I heard it was fixed in Froyo... so if we can only get that..
What I think actually happened is the guys that wrote the app somehow disabled the adjustment. It could actually be a bug, instead of willful censorship like we are assuming. I've had programs in windows that have grayed menu settings based on some faulty registry settings.
There appears to be an update for the YouTube app in the market that fixes this now. It does allow you to alter the SafeSearch parameters. Check it out.

Android Police have reportedly got the latest gmail.apk ripped from a LG Nexus, with cool new features like pinch to zoom and swipe to remove.
The version # is 4.2, so it looks like we will receive another software update from Google before long. Damn Google is hot at the moment:cyclops:

Awesome! Although I don't delete my emails, the pinch to zoom is awesome.
The title is misleading because it isn't leaked but rather previewed.

Kinda see your point, the apk was leaked but not to the general public. The author mentioned that they was a possibility (slight) that their source would allow then to distribute the apk. Hope I didn't get your hopes up:angel:

In addition to point #6 Reboot. Once you do, you should have no Gmail as far as Android is concerned. from Android Police's installation guide, I would also boot into Recovey and wipe the Davlik Cache, to ensure there is no old data that could mess things up.
I have now installed it on my stock 4.1.2, it really is a big improvement in functionality, feels far more intuitive
Nice, this will be good.

I like it.. One oddity though.
In the menu when composing they have
Attach Picture
Attach Video
I don't understand the useless redundancy here.. "Attach File" makes more sense then splitting it up and making it look like you can only attach pictures or videos.
Am I the only one who can't seem to install it? Every time I try, it says could not be installed. I even uninstalled the old version. Unknown sources is checked. I'm on PA 2.2.
Edit: rebooted, cleared cache/dalvik. All good now.

I know there are threads on this problem with other Transformer pads, but I am wondering if anyone had this problem with the TF701 (WW)?
I just get the message about "Unknown error, might be network connection..."
Of course my network connection is fine, and I am using the unlock tool found at ASUS support site for the TF701. That is version 8.
I have tried this a couple of days, many times per day, it just gives me the same error.
I have read people with other Transformer models who contacted ASUS and gave them their serial numbers and MAC-addresses, which seems to solve the problem in some cases.
Others are refering to ASUS devicetracker (devicetracker.asus.com) which seems to be taken down, or is it just available in US?
I called ASUS, they never heard of the problem.
I am thankful for any help!
I think you ended up downloading the unlock tool for the TF700, not TF701. The latter only has one tool, version 1.
The former has the v8

Thanks, but version 8 is the right one. It's just called v 1.0 on ASUS TF701 support site.
Ok, in that case just keep trying. For some people it literally took 40 -50 tries and it worked all the sudden.
At the same time register your tablet on Asus VIP service, then conatct them and explain your problem.
The mismatched database entries was a big problem for many TF700 owners - haven't heard anything like that for the TF701 ever.
Send them a screenshot of your About Tablet page with each mail and ask them to check their database and correct the entry for your tablet.
Good luck

I just wanted to put in my two cents here. I've been having the same issues with the bootloader unlock tool for the last 3 months. I've called customer support numerous times and been told too bad. We don't support that. We don't care. I bought this tablet for its vast power but I am not even allowed to experience its full potential. I am deeply disappointed in Asus. It has been nothing but problems with this thing but through patience some have resolved themselves.
You're suggestion may have been the light at the end of my tunnel. I have never hears of the VIP support until now. I have done the same, registered and sent them a ticket request. I uploaded a screenshot of the screen saying password incorrect.
Here's hoping this can finally be resolved. If this fixes it, I'll be sure to tell everyone that's still having problems with the tool.

Yes, officially Asus does not provide any support as soon as yu mention "unlock". That's why people were telling them thry could not get registered for Asus Device Tracker (same problem: no s# in Asus database = no device tracker).
The VIP service people seem to be a little more receptive than general support. But it really depends on who happens to read your mail...
That's why you want to be persistent. Turn yorself into a polite and friendly PITA and don't forget to attach a screenshot to each mail you send.

I think you have to turn off two factor login on your Google account. You may also have to log in to your Google account website and turn on "allow unsecured apps".

I am not talking about the "Unknown sources" in Android.
I don't know the exact description since English is not my first language, but if you log in to for an example Gmail, then go to your Google account up to the right, you will find an option for allowing "unsecure apps".
I hope it was understandable.

I think I found what you're referring to. It's in the Google account management section. It's the area where you can make your internet experience immune to Google's pull. You can edit adsense settings, see your entire Google history, YouTube videos you've viewed all sorts of stuff. It's really cool, but unfortunately the boot loader unlock tool doesn't come up in that list of apps. That list consists of third party apps that have all already gained access.
If you're referring to yet a different screen, maybe a screenshot would be helpful?

Yeah, this looks like the classic database mismatch problem. Keep trying to use the app and contact Asus.
It really depends on who you happen to talk/email to. So don't give up. Just read about someone who bought an unlocked TF701 on ebay which was totally messed up and he/she got an RMA approved without any problem...
Ask for a supervisor, escalate it... If you're willing to give up your warranty - why should they care?

So, according to drakon.us, Samsung has provided factory bootloader unlocker in the Samsung App store.
Search for "CROM Service", You can see the process here:
https://youtu.be/KTTgXqaP7Rk
I'm in preorder hell waiting for my gold S6E from Verizon so I can't verify independently. Is this something we can use?
Seems it's not showing up in the US Store. I'll see if anyone I know in that region can grab the app for us. Might be worth looking into.
So there was a link here to a place to find the app, then poof it magically disappeared. LOL gotta love how that happens. Regardless, the app that was linked did not work, it downloaded and installed fine, but when trying to open it, it just force closes.

Skyline,
No need for a hook up.There's a thread in the hacker/dev forum with both versions of the apk that I've come across... They're available to download there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...sung-factory-bootloader-unlocker-apk-t3086609
So is there a way to make this work .... FC for me after installing
Well like I said earlier, I'm trying to relearn all this after not using it for six or so years... My intuition tells me that this tool is invaluable, and we know it is functional as we've seen on a Galaxy Tab, it does install and load, but after the disclaimer, it FC's. This is telling me it is probable that the device is simply failing a version or class checker.
If that is true, depending on how this was created, the source can be altered to work with our devices. What's critical here is that these are official Samsung apps; we're not recreating the wheel here. What we're doing is looking at an unencrypted tool that was designed specifically for the purpose of unlocking our device. That's why I posted these to Hacking/Dev. While I am starting almost from square one, someone who is familiar with the environment and scripting language would be far ahead of me on the curve.
Will it work out of the box? Nope, but there is the potential it can be made to work.

By the looks of it you can get it to work you just need to obtain root first... Which means it serves no use seeing as the phones that have root are already bootloader unlocked

But phones with locked BL's can be rooted given the right tool is created. And if it is then once rooted we can unlock our BL's and flash Roms like everyone else.
Sent from My Samsung Galaxy S6 "Pure" Black
Root doesn't guarantee any bootloader unlock. If that was true, then every phone with root would have an unlocked bootloader, which isn't the case.
Root would be nice, but without an unlocked bootloader I see many bricks happening from inexperienced users pushing things too far and not knowing a way out.

No one is bothering to work on an alpha build. Nothing will be done until the OS is released in 7 months or so. This is not meant to be a daily driver.
This is why developers get so upset when these builds are published to normal people.

well to be fair, google is using the phrase "android beta", and making this open as an OTA for a reason. From my usage so far, the N beta seems very daily driver friendly, friendlier than L, M previews were the past two years.
i think these "Devs" you speak of can probably calm their testicles... Unless i'm mistaken, this community is for everyone, regardless of what the website name is.

Yes they did release it for a reason. So app developers have an idea of the changes coming. It is not meant as a daily driver.
You have no idea how people are laughing at requests like this.
No this Alpha build was just released yesterday and to be honest most people that could help with this are not even running it. Only people that dont know better are using it.
tethering works fine right out of the box on N, no need to unlock it. unless you are asking to tether "free" on your provider, then you have to just find your way for now.
This works I just tested it. Im on verizon udp. turn off wifi. First eject sim card (don't need to take it all the way out). turn on hotspot through settings not the quick tile. As soon as you toggle the hotspot on push the sim card back in.

Google made this available as an OTA via the beta program so that even non super elite devs can check it out. Yes it's not meant for daily use, that part is clear on the beta page; yell down from your high horse when you have some inside info that the general public is not aware of.
Once again, this post is CLEARLY NOT a "request" like you're going on about. As an android enthusiast, i'm here discussing the next version of android with other enthusiasts.

I don't have many threads about build.prop edits. I speak up against most build.prop editing threads..
Well as tethering is enabled by default then your question is answered. If you want to do it for free then that bypasses a paid service which would make it warez and banned from the site.
If you want to tether then pay for the option. Simple solution.

Just not wanting to have to ban people.
If it is enabled by default then you guys are good.
Bypassing paid services is against the rules. Plain and simple.
I'm guessing when they get root working better, able to write, I bet the old build.prop edit will work fine.
