It appears to be a similar issue to this thread, though he's not gotten a solution yet:

Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.
have you tried using an earlier version of xpeifirm, one that doesn't make those xml files for flashtool. I think it was added in the latest 2 or 3 versions.
If you are having problems with Flashtool try using the newest version or if you already are using it try redownloading the ftf or downloading a different one ( preferably Global Version )
or if worse comes to worse you could always update using PC Companion assuming you have a locked bootloader.
I've had the same problem with an ftf I created and tried to flash, solved by downloading one of the ftf files uploaded to the stock firmware thread [particularly nordic combined 23.1.A.28]
Okay guys, I got it working. I was using XperiFirm to download the update, but that seems to be the source of the problem. I skipped XperiFirm, and instead used FlashTool to download the update, and worked this time around.
Good thing FlashTool now has an inbuilt firmware downloader. Hope this helps anyone else struggling with XperiFirm.

when using flashtool to download and create the ftf file, do you leave out the 2 .ta files like you do with xperifirm?
I'll be honest, I've not read too much into what each system file does, so I wasn't prepared to skip anything in case it was important. I just downloaded, loaded everything into the ftf file, and flashed it. Xperifirm must change something during extraction that causes it to play up, which FlashTool doesn't during its extraction. Xperifirm worked fine last time I updated to lollipop from KitKat.
If anyone can be bothered solving it, good luck, but for us less tech savvy, I can only suggest to use the FlashTool to complete the update start to finish.

Brick after firmware Flash

Hi,
I try to flash a new firmware with XperiFirm. I download the file, then create the .tft with flashtool. Debug is enable, security application is disabled. I put the phone is flashmod and flash the phone
Than I have the following error :
error - processing of system.sin finished with errors
Now I can't reboot my phone, I have the logo Sony and he goes into flashmod. I can't do nothing. Here is a solution to flash the stock ROM, or a recovery to flash CM12 with my locked bootloader ?
Thanks in advance

Oops, sorry my bad. I just knew the newest change in Flashtool.
You will have to download the 0.9.19.3, then apply the 0.9.19.4 patch. The patch is in a form of a jar file.
To apply the 0.9.19.4 patch, you must be on 0.9.19.3 and replace x10flasher.jar with the one from the patch.

I'm sorry, but my "try again" message wasn't elaborated so that you could understand. What I meant was, please try again to download an ftf using the latest version. The changelog of FlashTool mentioned something that is quite vital to the ftf packaging process.

The problem might be when Flashtool processes the packed ftf. You see, after Xperifirm downloaded it and packed it, flashtool will also again process the ftf. You will notice this when you close Xperifirm.
Also by Xperifirm, i meant the one that is bundled with Flashtool.

Alright, report back your findings.
PC Companion saved my phone !
I have a question now, is it possible to flash another firmware to have the possibility to unlock bootloader ? My firmware doesn't allow, I can see it in the service menu..

Great to know
No, you cannot unlock your bootloader if the service menu said so. Attempting to do that may cause you a hard-brick. The bootloader state does not depend on the firmware version.
I made a mistake after, and return to brick..
But now PC COMPANION said that the engine of update can't find any update for my XPERIA SP.
I re try with Flashtool but here is the log :

Which version of flashtool are you using? I have problems with the latest releases but 0.9.18.6 works for me. Have you tried another ftf, yet?

i can boot only to kernel or recovery
i cant flash any ftf because it will get stuck on system partition
i have a ta backup of my original locked bootloader and i have a backup from my unlocked bootloader that flashtool made before messing my phone up.
I cant restore original ta because i dont know how to without adb with superuser in system.
And I have ADB in twrp recovery inside williams kernel 9.1
Please help me!

Hello frnds, i want to unlock bootloader of my xperia sp. The model number is c5302 running on kitkat 4.3 and build number is 12.1.A.1.205 plzzz help me

Can't flash any rom by flashtool or sony pn companion

Hi,
By mistake I've restored some apps on titanium backup that were originally on a lollipop rom, like settings, to a 4.3 phone.
I've then got a bootloop, that I've tried to fix with the repair option on sony pc companion, but I had: sony update engine failure error 0x00000064.
Then, I've tried to flash a stock .ftf rom (C5503_10.7.A.0.222 then C5503_10.4.1.B.0.101) but after flashing every file, this error occurs:

This should be a corrupted firmware file(ftf), Try again with a fresh download.

Well that's a C5502 file, I have the C5503!
So I've got news: I've unlocked my bootloader and flashed the boot.img of cm12.1, which worked and I started my phone into it.
But I want to have stock this time: I tried to convert the ftf to a flashable zip (extracted CM meta-inf, extracted system.sin to a folder) but there is nothing to do, I can't sideload it!
So you thing that the 2 ftf files I've found are corrupted?

There's no need of "CM meta-inf". If you want Stock rom flash a untouched ftf file.

Thanks for your answers, but I didn't had time to try your solutions.
Here's what blocking me: my battery won't charge.. I even bought a new one, but the same thing is happening...
Do you think I must create a new thread or can I stay here?
Here are some screens of the ampere app: as you can see, my battery is at -30°C...
