[Q] Button on lower right - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I just bought my xperia z1 today. And im wondering what is the use of the button in the lower right part of the phone. I tried it in camera but it didnt capture photo. It only turn on the flash for a couple of seconds then it off agin without capturing it. Whats the use of it then?

Is the Camera Button but you don't know how to use it, it have two time press, at the first click it take focus, when you push harder it take the pictures. If you cannot take photos then the button is faulty and you should go for replacement.

You can actually see camera icon on left side of that button so it's quite clear what is for...

It's a two-step button. 1st step is focusing (and maybe flash depending on the setting), 2nd step, if you push harder, takes the picture.

How to stop camera auto focus and capture instantly

Hello,
It seems that the camera focus made for still opjects, as if I am going to take a picure of friends for example, I have to ask them to stay still for at least 3 seconds!!
What can I do to make it take instant shots as soon as I press the button with no delay of the auto focus..
I emaild HTC, they replied that a representative will look into the matter but they never reply..
Regards
I am not a camera expert but I could explain something for you .
Turn off auto focus just make thing worse. It makes the quality of the picture better. This is why some review websites gave kaiser a thumb up for this auto focus feature.
What you looking for here is shutter speed , not turning off auto focus. The faster the shutter speed, the better pictures you can take ( especially for shaky hand and moving object ). Its so last year that picture of still objects are always better since most of camera out there doesnt have a fast enough shutter speed .
Correct me if I am wrong. I did some good reading about camera on Newegg.com when I was looking to buy a decent camera for my girl .
Check out this thread. You can reduce the time the phone takes between focusing and capturing the image.
Thank you aberz, but the delay is only on the auto focus, its the time that takes [ ] to go from gray [ ] to green [ ]
I have a nokia N95, it has it too, as soon as I click the button, the picture is there with better quality from tytn on the same resolution..

Thank you NotATreoFan, tried it, unfortunately no changes noticed..
The strange thing is that the front camera does not have that delay, it captutures instantly, but of course with very low quality
I will follow up on the thread you mentioned.

Front camera does not have the auto focus feature .
Everybody hope their handset come with auto focus camera, just wondering why you want to disable and give up to use it?
Without auto focus , the picture you take will be a blur photo , especially closer items and object.
don't press the camera button. instead push the middle button on the navigation pad just once. the phone will auto focus and immediately take the pic. it's really working out to be the best way to take the pics.

Imagine that you want to capture a child smile or lough, you wont be able to ask him to stand still..
Imagine that you went to the zoo and wanted to capture the lion yawn, would you dare to ask him to repat it and stand still
Those are real situations I've been throug

Auto focus = better picture . Auto focus need ... time to focus . I think the quality of the camera affect the time of the auto focus.
Anyway, I use half press mode and it take about 2 secs to get a snap, which is close to my 4 years old Sony cybershot W7 . Half press mode also reduce ( or even eliminate ) the vibration of pushing button , which improve the quality.
To achieve an good quality with instant shot for moving object , I think thats the job for the professional camera. However, I would like to see how things turn out for you.
Kaiser camera wasnt rated good anyway.

Thank you aberz, appreciate your concern, I am following up now on the thread NotATreoFan mentioned
For taking better pictures:
1. Hold index finger over camera shutter button
2. Hold thumb over center button on navigation pad
3. Use index finger to half-press and auto focus
4. Use thumb to gently press center button on navigation pad
5. Make sure your lens is clean
6. Try to take the picture in between heart beats. Hard at first but you get used to it.
I used to HATE taking pictures with the tilt, and still carried around my old Sony Ericsson W810i as it's 2mp camera always got the shot I wanted. Took me a while to figure out the above. Hope it helps

Then you should buy a SE K810 with BEST PICTURE instead of kaiser
The Best Picture allow you to shot 9 images at one shoot.

you may want to update the camera software to the latest (search on Navdav) and also add the HTC Album the latest version before trying this again. It works like a charm for me.

Really?? I tried it . It works the same way as pressing the camera button. Still about 2 - 3 secs delay. Tilt camera truly sucks.
the camera needs to auto focus. but this way it does take the snapshot right after it autofocused. indoors, of course, will take longer to autofocus.
since I used this function ALL my pix afre much better.
Listen, nobody says the camera on Tilt is on par with a 10 MP Cybershot.....But the pix it takes in daylight are awesome. maybe you need to clear your lenses, or even crack the cover to remove any obstruction between the internal lens and outside (like I did). THAT really make a difference....

Photo taking problem

Hi,
Does anyone has the same behaviour :
I am selected as "touch and press" to take a photo.
The first time it works, but for the second shot, I ve to press totally to take a picture. Same for the third ...
If I close the photo device and reopen it, it works again the fist shot, and not after.
It 's very embarrassing, because when you press totally, the picture is taken automatically when focus is OK, but not when you want.
I have completely the opposite. I touch the first time and nothing until I full press, then every time after that I can touch and it focusses.
It's weird and crappy.
I have Touch and Press selected and if you touch (keypad lights up so I know I touched) nothign happens. You have to press and then of course if focuses and then takes the picture for you.
Touch and Press is very useful in order to focus first and then frame your shot before pressing to capture.
Not working. all the modes seem to be the same AFAIK.
On mine, it seems also that every mode finally lead to "press ttotally" that autfocus then shot

I've gott exacly the same on my Diamond...
Same Problem here, sometimes AF works or not.
even keeping the Finger on the touch button (hoping for AF to activate) seems to trigger digital zoom instead (without sliding the finger)
Any Solution yet?

HTC Touch Diamond GER (Stock ROM)
Same thing happens on my device. Touch and Press works on first shot, then the following shots require Full Press. Quite an annoying problem.

I think my Sprint HTC Diamond is defective.

I just got the sprint version of the HTC DIAMOND Sunday, and this is my first WM device. Warranty is still good as well.
My problems:
1)
When trying to take photos or videos, the zoom constantly moves in and out regardless of me not pressing a thing (For example, when i open the camera, the zoom constantly moves from 1.0-2.0x all on its on). I don't know if it suppose to do this or not, but i don't think so. The same thing goes for viewing pics and Opera as well, it zooms back and forth without me touching a thing.
2)
Sometimes it seems as if the "end" button or buttons on the right of the center button, doesn't respond well. I try to hold it down to lock my phone, but it takes several tries in order to this. Maybe its just me
3)
Iv'e read that the center button susppose to act like a scrolling mechanism, but i dont think mine does. Has this feature been disabled or something?
Its a nice phone, but i think mine has a couple of bugs. The zoom problem really annoys me, because i cant take pictures with the camera zooming in and out constantly. Please help..
When using opera Or the camera rotate your finger around the center button(stay on the outside of where it raises)
With the end button try to press it on the far bottom right(as far from the center as possible.
I think the center as a scrolling thing has to be enabled

Make sure when you are in the album or camera, your palm isn't covering the scrolling "ring" around the centre button, as this could be causing the zooming problem. If all else fails, hard reset.
Also, for the buttons to the right, make sure you are almost at or close to the edge of the diamond. if you are close to the center button, it may be acting as a "right click" (as the area to the right of the center "scrolling ring" is a "right" button).

thanks for the info, but when i say it zooms without me touching it, i meant that literally. For example, right now im looking at a pic in my phone. The phone is literally just laying on its back while I'm typing this message. Its constantly zooming in and out of the pic in real rapid movements. Could it be the screen protector that came with the phone? (But then again, it only happens when I load the camera/camcorder,search the web, or view pics) I have it on, but i didn't think that would be the cause. Anyone else encounter this problem? Maybe I should just do a hard reset, or maybe return it. IDK
Sorry to hear...
I have the screen protector on that came with the device, and mine is working fine. Try a hard reset, let me know if it works

[Q] Camera not working (or im an idiot)

Has anyone got problems with their camera not working?
I press the camera button and nothing happens, if I am in the camera app and press it, it focuses but then does nothing. No picture is taken. It is the same with this and video recorder.
I should point out that the button is not broken, it depresses, and the camera application reacts by beeping, but a photo is never taken (or a video for that matter)
I have an O2 Uk HD7. I'll call HTC soon, but thought Id start a thread to see if others have a similar prob.
LOL. Im an idiot.
The button is a 2 stage button, 1 for focus' and then harder for the actual photo.
BAH!
I take no shame in admitting I did the same thing
Oh good, im glad im not the only one We can blame the button being a bit too hard!
I did the same thing! And I'm aphotographer. The button is a bit hard and you have to press it all the way down for it to take ths pic. plus the button is on an angleed surface, you have to press it at an angle for it to work right.
It also wont work if the proximity sensor is activated, like when it's in your pocket
lol I did the same thing. For the life of me I could not figure out how to take a picture. But I eventually figured it out. Btw, when your phone is off just hold the camera button for a few seconds and the camera will come up. Pretty neat feature.
I had this issue too. The camera button is quite flush with the device. I've missed a couple of shots because of this. Not a big deal. Just have to get used to it. I'm just glad to have a dedicated camera button.
Yet another idiot calling!!!
Thanks guys, I had the same problem lastnight. So that's one hitch sorted..... Now for the ringtones!!!
Yeah. I'm no idiot (most of the time) and I have to say, it took me a few snaps to get it down and it's still a little difficult. Bottom line is the button doesn't make it real easy at all. In fact, it's a primary contributor to a few crappy shots I've taken.
same stupd user i was. finaly i got it - but the result in sharpness is big bad difference in relation to hd2.
I tried to take a quick pic of my parking place in a parking garage today, I'm a left-handed and I keep my phone in my left pant pocket, I was being rushed by my friends and tried to take a pic of the sign but I was blocking the proximity sensor. I realized this at the last moment and managed to snag a blurry shot as the elevator doors opened. I'll need some more time with this phone to get used to that.
But at least I don't have any pictures of the inside of my pockets.
I was on the phone with TMobile setting up a warranty exchange for my busted camera when I discovered this thread. Camera not busted luckily. Strange setup. Work around I noticed was holding the button softly then pressing power.

Well the camera is actually of not a very good quality. Some pictures are truly sharp but for that many things like light, angles and luck have to come together. And ofcourse the button adds to the miserable pics.

Camera button sometimes unresponsive

I have to hit the camera button 2-3 times in order to start the app. It doesn' t matter whether the screen is turned on or off. But it works nicely and sensitive as soon as the camera app is running so I hope it's somehow software related.
Anyone else experiencing this?

It is working just fine for me. You have to consider the camera button has two pressure points. One usually to focus and a harder one to shoot. The first pressure point will not trigger the app.
I'm well aware of this and it really works perfectly in app. Maybe I'm simply to impatient when I quickly want to take a pic...

Right, it takes about 0.5 seconds...
It's also a vast improvement over the Z1C button, which was way too stiff and using it often caused camera shake for me because you had to press so hard. The Z3C has found just the right balance between sensitivity and 'clickability' without it triggering asccidentally all the time, IMHO. It's now actually easier to use the button than the on-screen one in most situations.
