[REVIEW] Mercury TPU case

Here's a quick & dirty pics review for the Mercury brand TPU case.
I bought this TPU case from eBay at a whopping $7.77 US total once shipped. Definitely not a bank breaker.
I have bought it from supermom28. You can get one here. I ordered it on January 4th and received on January 16th, the seller even included a cheap plastic screen cover. Sadly it seems the white color is currently out of stock, so if you are looking for one you might want to look elsewhere!
Plastic quality is very good. The first thing I noticed when unpacking it was how rigid the TPU felt. My other TPU case feels much more rubbery than this one, albeit not as much as a silicone case. This can be a pro or a con, depending on your preference.
One con I can see is that since it's less rubbery, it's also less grippy. The Nexus S in my opinion is plagued by the fact it's a slippery phone, so you have to make sure you have a strong grip when taking it out of a pocket or your purse, if you're a lady. This case does not solve this problem.
Two pros I can see however is that it will not attract dust and particles as much as more rubbery cases and it is much shinier. The case is very light reflective, definitely looks good.
The cutouts are good. They're not absolutely perfect in their location, but they're not atrocious either. One example would be the headphones jack. The edges are smooth and well finished.
It fits snugly on a i9020a model. Snugly might not even be the right word, it can even be quoted as being nearly too tight. Fitting it on the phone can be a bit difficult, mostly due to the material rigidity so it's important to fit certain edges first or your might end up with slightly misaligned power and volume buttons.
The color is vibrant. Although in the pictures it seems the white is cream, this is due to the low quality point and shoot camera I'm using with little to no possible adjustment to white balance. It is definitely white and I imagine the other colors would be as vibrant. One very nice touch is the inclusion of what resembles automotive paint flakes in the plastic, giving nice looking silvery reflective shards.
Some users have noted the obvious engrish on the case logo. If you dislike it, it can easily be "sanded" off using a cube of sugar and a bit of rubbing. Another curious inclusion however is the engrish inside the case. Just look for yourself...
Thanks for the warning Mercury, I'm sure removing this sticker could yield lethal results.
All in all, I could say I'm pretty satisfied with this TPU case. It's cheap and looks good. My only gripe would be the slippery feeling of this case. My other TPU case added grip to the phone, this one does not. Otherwise, a very solid buy.
Thanks for the review - I was having trouble deciding on which colour case to get for my new Nexus S but think I'm definitely going to go for the white one now - it looks great!
I contacted the eBay seller 'supermom28' a couple of days ago and they did reply saying they will be getting the white case back in stock, but no ETA on that so I may have to look elsewhere.
The only thing I'm not digging is the openings for the buttons, but other than that, it looks like a nice case.

This is something I'm not too sure about. On my other TPU case the buttons are covered. I like the unified look it gives. However, I kinda enjoy the feeling of pressing directly on the buttons rather than squishy rubbery plastic. They're obviously a bit recessed too so that's something else to consider.
I have two of these and I love them. Too bad the white one went up in price so high.

If you look at the other case the seller sells for the Nexus, it is a white one with sticker animal faces for $12.99.
Got my Mercury Nexus S case today from North Korea and it's awesome. I would definitely recommend getting one.

Which color did you end up getting? I think black and white are the most popular.
I ended up getting white, I might get some more colors just not sure yet.

i got the black one, the writing on the outside comes off with your nails and i removed the sticker from the inside and it was covering a spot that's not painted!
I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I forgot to specify the color in the paypal notes and ended up getting a white one. I am not the best at putting on screen protectors so i didn't do a great job with that. But funny enough, I dropped my phone for the first time on the way to work to pick up the case. It made me realize that I really want one. Luckily, the back cover just ended up with a scratch. My phone is defiantly protected, a bit weightier, a bit thicker, but still fits in my pocket.
I've got a read one and my wife thinks it looks like a ladies phone case. I may end up getting another color

Need help choosing between a few cases

Hi guys !
So I just ordered a 2014 Moto G. Need help on deciding what case to buy.
Do any of you have opinions/experiences on/with the following cases ? I need something thats slim yet protective. These are the cases that I am able to get locally (South Africa)
Fosmon Dura-Fro
Orzly FlexiCase
Cotechs Black Fusion Bumper
Theres also the Cruzerlite Bugdroid which is slightly out of my price range, but if its highly recommended, I'll consider it.
So yeah, any opinions wrt to the cases are welcome. Thanks !
Just got my Moto G2, waiting on this one: SUPCASE [Unicorn Beetle Series], sorry, can't post links yet.
I received the Bugdroid with a G1 I had previously bought used. I didn't like it, it had cutouts for the buttons, so they were harder to actuate,
it was kind of tight and a bit stiff. I also didn't care for the graphic on the back. The 3 you mentioned all get good reviews on Amazon,
the Fosmon has the most reviews.
Bugdroid
I'm currently using a lime green Bugdroid case on my G (2014). I have a love/hate relationship with it.. I love the color & design, however whenever debris gets up under the lip of the case, the material magnifies it, so I have to take the case off several times a day to remove debris, otherwise it looks atrocious.. Also, the cutouts aren't quite big enough to effectively hit the buttons. All in all, I'd stay away from it.. Mine will be coming off when my Dbrand skin comes next Wednesday/Thursday.
Edit: just looked at the Amazon listing for the Bugdroid, you may not have the debris issue with the pure black/white versions of the case, they don't look to be transparent like the rest of the color choices.

Review of Dbrand Skins

I chose the Carbon Fiber series skin with an Orange True Color Accent, so this review may not apply to every skin series they have available.
Design: Dbrand hit it out of the park when designing these skins. I've used skins on all of my past devices, and none of them were every "perfect." They always had an edge that didn't line up quite right, but with Dbrand the fit and design is honestly perfect. Every port and cutout lines up precisely, and the the step by step guide on youtube that they have is very helpful, and allowed me to apply the skin perfectly on my first try. The carbon fiber feels awesome in the hand, and it provides a much needed grip to a rather slippery phone. With the skin applied, I feel comfortable using the phone without a case, something I usually do not do. The true color skin adds a splash of color to your phone, and has an interesting texture. It is plastic-y but it has an almost orange peel feel that I personally find very comfortable in the hand.
Durability: A common misconception about these skins is that they are going to protect your phone like a case would. They aren't. Skins are great for protecting from scratches and even a minor fall every once in a while. I think the main flaw in dbrands skin for the G4 is the fact that the skin does not cover the sides of the phone, only the front and back. Without the inclusion of a side piece. the phone is very susceptible to scratching, and it provides no protection when dropped.
Conclusion: For $18 ($10 if you just want the back covered) it is a great value for someone who wants to change up the look and feel of their phone. For someone who wants protection and a new look, I can still recommend this skin, however not without a clear case, such as the ringke fusion. Dbrand offers excellent customer support, and a plethora of options to choose from. If you're going to get a skin for your phone, Dbrand is the way to go.

Which one provides more grip? and by grip I mean, when your hands are cold and you hold the device and it won't slip.

How is that one? Is the feel like matte cases where it makes it non-slippery? Make sure your hands are cold before answering . Heat makes plastic stick to our hands.

Carbon fiber for sure. I always use cases, and the added grip makes me comfortable enough to go caseless

Hi,
what do you think about this DBrand Skin after 2 months ?
Dbrand rulz slackwrap sux omg omg
I did a review of Dbrand skins myself and posted it a while back, I will add a link here so people can go to one place to get all the information about Dbrand and the quality skins they produce.

I also did a small video showing the installation is actually as easy as they say it is.

PS carbon fiber is the way to go for grip.
Are there any skins that covers the full device, with back and the frame of the device?

Any cases with "nexus"printed on them?

Hello guys
I have been using this device for few weeks . And now I'm looking for a nice case
I want a case with Nexus printed in back of them and remaining case should be plain /with descent texture
I've already searched on Amazon.. but looks like cases I want are not available in my country :silly:
So can anybody suggest me a good case and post a link here ?
Thanks in advanced
(Ps I'm using black Nexus 5x .. in case someone needs that info too )
(Please ignore grammatical mistakes if any )
I got a Smoke Black Silicon S cover, it protects against scratches and minor bumps, and it gives some extra grip. Also looks really sweet and since it's quite transparant it still shows LG and Nexus. Can't really find the link anymore but searching smoke black tpu s or smoke black silicon s will probably get u the same thing, and it's quite cheap too, mine was like €2 from aliexpress.
The supcase comes in a version with a clear back so the Nexus logo shows?
Amazon Link Example
Thats the case I use. Its been a great case.
I bought a nillkin tpu 0.6mm. Its cheap and good too ( ₹399). And no Nexus is not printed on it, but its transparent, best thing about this case is that it also covers the usb and headphones slot. And the power, volume button feedback is also improved. See here

I use the same case and like it. "Nexus" is clearly visible through it. I kind of wanted to be a **** about showing it off as Nexus and their's no difficulty seeing it. IMO it's doubtful that you will find a decent, legit, case that says Nexus on it unless Google sells it. Nexus is one of their trademarks. You may find some skins that sell you the letters n, e, x, u and s that you can stick on with the rest of the skin but they are pushing it too since they are replicating the size and font of the actual trademarked logo.
The Nillkin is okay, the best thing about it is the dust flaps. BUT, it's a little too thin for my liking and feel flimsy. Has no camera protection whatsoever.
I'm using a Ringke Fusion now and it's much better. Not flimsy (i would like it to be a touch thicker) and has proper camera bump protection. I have the smokey black/clear as i read the all clear can discolour (yellow) around the edges. Plus it comes with a cutout template which you can make any logo visible through the clear back. But i'm not using it as the Nexus is very visible and looks great. The button feedback on this case is great (same as Nillkin).

What about the space between camera fingerprint sensor and flash, some people said the phone could be scratched with the ringke.

I've had mine for about a month now and no such scratches on my black 5X. The back of the Ringke Fusion is a harder plastic to the side bumpers, and yes the cut-out for camera and finger print does appear to have a sharp finish where it makes contact in this area. The actual side where you can touch has a slight bevel edge, it feels great. Given that it sits flat with no movement, I can't see how it can scratch the back of the phone. I've used many cases with this phone, this one is easily the best so far. It's a perfect balance between moderate protection and retaining the natural feel. Plus it looks very nice and clean. The only negative I have read about it, is the clear bumper version and discoloration. I have the smokey black which has no such issue. [Edited for more details]

any real leather case with magntic closure without interfering the s=pen?

Here is one. I used it for S7 edge, now planning for Note 8

This one is great except the other one has sensor to display info in the window.
I'm using this one ---> https://daviscase.com/collections/g...wallet-cover-cards-slots-black-slim-daviscase If you've used Davis before you probably know that the natural brown leather cases are going to look like they've been in the trenches for a year in about a month. If you haven't then, well, the case is going to look like you've been through a war zone in short order. Not a problem if you're going for the distressed look but if you're not I'd steer clear of those. Keep in mind the leather is top notch as is the construction, they are going for that look with those cases. I prefer the black as linked here, quality is visibly high enough it's drawn a few comments and it doesn't go into distressed mode like some of the brown cases.

dont really like the Davis case, its craftsmanship it poor, the leather smells good, but the pattern is uneven. and it is sloppy when closed.
i would recommend Nodus and iPulse
the iPlulse one gets magnetic closure, and it does not affect the s pen, someone said it does, but you just need to push away the magnetic piece away from your screen.
https://www.ipulsecases.com/collections/galaxy-note-8
I've had two of the Davis so far, both were easily superior to the iPulse Mrs Crab had on one of her phones. Nothing uneven or sloppy about any of them but the Davis has notably better leather quality, construction quality, stitching, etc. I was wondering if I was off base reading your post and went ahead and skimmed some tube reviews which all lauded them for all the same things I mentioned, construction, material quality, stitching. Right now one of my kids is running around with a 6P I handed down with one of them and it is still holding together just fine after a couple years. Not something you can say about most leather cases which usually go a year or so for me.
I'm wondering if you had a knock off?
I've got the ipulse one in tan and it doesn't effect the S pen at all.
Just wish the ipulse leather wasn't so shiney. Personal preference is dull suede look not Patten look. But I think the ipulse will give better drop protection since the case edges - the leather wallet corners sit further out than the Davis one.
Poster who has a Davis Case, wanna swap ?
