Hi there.
I have a UNLOCKED bootloader.
I have downgraded my firmware using Flashtool and enabled USB debugging, used the .bat to install the recovery and used the Chinese windows app to gain root, using an app from the Google Play market I checked and it said I had root.
The phone after installation of recovery rebooted into recovery fine and I flashed the flashable recovery as said in the guides. if I install any rom it will say it's checking the MD5 (or whatever it is) and then displayed "Failed", which will then cause the phone to go into a boot loop and lose root, it's really bugging me.
Any pointers on what may be going wrong?
Thank you
This is the Worst way I ever saw here to gain Root and you really messing with your phone.
1- If you unlocked your bootloader, why are you downgrading?
2- Why do you used a Chinese app to gain Root, which it is? What is the name of that App?
3- Why you dodn't read the instruction of how to gain root? (it's a fact you didn't as you explained wrong steps)
Flash Stock FTF vie Flashtool in Flashmode, then Flash an Advanced Kernel with recovery implemented via Flashtool in Flashmode, then boot into recovery and install a Pre-Rooted latest NUT Rom or any Custom one, follow the instruction to do that.
Done.

Sorry I was reading the sticky and following that in the General, which suggested using the Chinese app. Please would you suggest me the advanced kernel with recovery? Many thanks

Flash first .136 FW to clean up and wipe everything, then install this HERE, then you can upgrade to any rom you want.

..the kernel i posted actually have to be installed via fastboot, you have to install adb drivers first, boot in fastboot and install the Kernel...
No, he should flash a 757 FTF, then flash advanced stock kernel or doom kernel via Fastboot. That's it, you have root.

Actually there is instructions that saying that Kernel, which I posted, working on .136 only, so I am not sure if will be fine on .757.
If he will use different kernel then yes, he can flash .757 FW and a Doom Kernel, done.
Agreed with this post from @gregbradley, this is a much better way of carrying this out Kudos (Y)

I can't install CMW or anything, so isn't flashing things impossible?

you can install cmw on a rooted phone running 7.0.A.1.303 firmware, and you can flash that firmware with flashtool. Read the all in one thread from my signature.
Also, I must ask, why did you root if you didnt know what to do with it? You have just killed your warrenty for no reason..oh well.
What you can do with rooted and locked bootloader
Remove bloatware/debrand phone
Gain access to system partition
install cmw (In 303 Firmware)
Flash stock based roms like mine (Find in my signature) Its 195 based so you will be rooted and still have cmw and be on 7.0.A.3.195

did you try relocking your bootloader afterwards? can we do that and keep the root?
i did so on my xperia ZR, only problem is phone usually goes into bootloop after relocking of the bootloader, but i made a nandroid backup before the relocking, and after relocking just flashed some rootable fw installed recovery and flashed the nandroid i made before.

Yes and no...
You'll have read/write in recovery but only read in OS.
So basically, you'll have fully working root but you'll have to flash MODs or system APKs from recovery.
That shouldn't be problem...
This is (at the moment) best way to root your 4.3 OS
Sent from my Z1
If you have unlocked the bootloader and flashed one of the modified stock kernels from here then you have full root, and can write to system. I have done it several times today.
Kernel issue?
Ok, I followed this to the best of my knowledge but when I tried to flash the kernel.sin it kept giving an error that it's not a boot image... so I flashed the kernel from firmware in flashmode (by using the ftf but excluding everything besides kernel). Root apps work fine to my knowledge now, but am I supposed to be missing recovery now? I've tried installing busybox with no luck and can't get into recovery to install the zip. I'm guessing I did something wrong flashing the kernel in flashmode instead of fastboot. Can you give me advice? Thanks.
Edit: Got it with above post, thanks.

You should backup TA and DRM keys but if you are on 4.3 you can't because you need root. You have to downgrade to 4.2.2, root the system, backup everything, update again and follow the steps.

I got so amazing battery life so I'm scared to flash it again because from my experience when someting working very well you should not messing up with that. I will follow the steps to root this way only if I will had the opportunity to backup my TA and DRM keys, just in case something go wrong, without have to downgrade to 4.2.2. I do not want to downgrade at all so still undecided what do. I probably will wait and enjoy my phone this holidays and see if in few week coming up something new.
Anyway I still don't know well why I should backup my TA and DRM keys if with 4.3 everything working fine.

20mpx in iAuto seem to be worse than expected, this was said from users with that FTF. I also don't care about that but I don't like restricted devices at all and even if the pictures are not good as they should be I will like anyway to have that option, switch between 20 and 8. We don't know yet why Vodafone has that but to me is just a marketing move to be interested more on they stuff.

Nobody know who locked the phones, Vodafone or Sony, and why, can be for FTF compatibility, restrictions or something else.
Anyway with Locked Bootloader you can install custom rooms, you can install stock kernels, you can root your phone if it's on Android 4.2.2 but on 4.3 the rooting for Locked BL still in developing so you have to wait. The only thing which you can't install on your phone with locked BL is custom kernels. That's all.

Is not happen, it's was just lock from factory. Happen rarely after updates but I think is not the case.
Just got the kitkat rom installed, 360 will not root it what can i do?
Bootloader is not unlocked but it can be done, i did try flashtool but i dont understand it as it says push back button, we dont have one?
11th time this weekend for this reply, but here I go again.
Either unlock your bootloader, install an insecure kernel
or
downgrade, root, install recovery and flash a pre rooted 4.4 rom
EDIT
Flashtool will not unlock your bootloader, only the official sony method will work (Website is currently down) and you WILL need to read up on things before you do it.
also, fastboot mode button is volume up, whilst flashmode button is volume up

Yes, you must root first to do that, so I do suggest downgrading to a rootbale firmware, use Bin4rys method to root, install dualrecovery from the development section, backup TA partition (This step is not needed if you are not going to unlock the bootloader) then flash a pre rooted 4.4 rom

Okay .. So I'm running ver. 14.3.A.0.681 on my Z1 and I want to root it .. I heard of a method in which the phone must be downgraded, then rooted, then reupdated again using flashtool .. But every time I try to downgrade I get stuck in a boot loop .. I have managed to fix the boot loop problem by reflashing the 14.3.A.0.681.ftf
Please guys how can I downgrade without having this problem? And does this rooting method work? If not, what should I do?

Hi ralph97,
Here is what I did (although I was on .257 to start with)
1) Flashed C6903 14.1.G.1.534 Generic from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
2) Install dualrecovery from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
3) Flash SuperSU (via recovery) from here - http://download.chainfire.eu/282/SuperSU/
4) Update to NUTs .681 from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2687443
Each time I flashed an ftf, I cleared everything, so I made a backup (I just copied the stuff such as music, photos etc to my pc)
I hope that this helps.
PS - all cradits to helping me to @gregbradley

If you open the BL there is no need to make all the way back to 534.
You just have to open the BL install a recovery, on the 680 ftf, and then install the supersu.

Yes this is true, but you may want to backup your TA partition before unlocking the bootloader and this needs root, so you have to downgrade to .534 anyway.
So, yes technically you can do this, but I DO NOT advise it.
Well, the first time you do it, probably it shoud be done as you say.

Please remind to People the consequences in doing this! Like the Warranty, after Unlock Bootloader, will be Voided and even before that, like @gregbradley already said, Backup TA to not lose DRM Keys. The short way isn't the best all the time.
You do not reupdate by flashtool.
Only with the recovery.

You could use KingRoot to root the device, how you get Nuts Recovery on that I do not know, so I suggest downgrading root, and recovery then use pre-rooted firmware to update to 270.
I found a lockeddualrecorvery2.8.15 installer somewhere on here this morning, worked great.

I tried that with .270 stock but it's not working here haha.. Do you have .270 or previous fw?
Plus, can anyone tell me how to get a flashable ftf out of the prerooted zip? It'd solve my problem..
I have never been able to get recovery onto 5.0.2 after kingroot, but I might be doing something wrong. Best way would be to downgrade. Removing ftf from the pre-root will not solve your problem as if you just flash the ftf you are just flashing the firmware itself and not the SuperSU and Recovery that help to root the device when flashing a pre-rooted firmware.
