I live in Norway, and I rarely let my phone get warmer than ~35 degrees, and since I rarely watch clips longer than 5 min on it, and rarely record videos longer than a min or two, this isn't a problem (Norway's cold weather also helps I suspect).
This summer, however, I will be in Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia etc), and I'm a little worried about what the heat there will do to my phone, especially as I haven't had any issues with glass raising etc. Any experiences?
Don't worry, Z have a temp sensor and if it gets too hot the system will lower the cpu clocks and turn off some cpu cores to avoid overheating .

If it is 35 degree Celsius then you phone is so cool. My one goes 55-56 degree if I play temple run for 10 minutes. 35 is very low.

mine gets about 70 degrees everytime.
but it doesn't matter because of the thermald shutting the device down if its too hot.

Thank you all for your replies. Those temperatures you guys are mentioning seems insane! Aren't your hands burned?
The main reason I asked is because I'm a bit worried about the whole back panel lifting issue.
Don't worry about that. Sony created the service "Battery warning".
If phone exceed the limit tempurature, it will show the warning message and control (stop) some services.
yep main get hoooot too -when i play on gta san andreas get so hot that even in the hard cover it is uncomfortable to hold it (Now I play that game on my ps3 controller with HDMI connected :angel

Then I must say your unit got a real cool mind , well your unit produce reasonable heat which is very good. But for S4 Pro CPU, 55-56 degree is not the temperature to worry about. Even my Optimus G also heats same as my Xperia Z and both phone uses exactly same hardware. So far I know, above 75 degree is a red alert for this types of CPU though they will shut down before reaching that temperature. Still I am jealous of your phone because if your one stays cool that mean you have a better battery backup.

But don,t forget the rom also plays a important role for some problems that people think its hardware problem. Try to change you rom. Maybe there is alot app are running without you know so that overheat you phone
Mine is getting normally something around ~60 degrees Celsius (CPU temperature) when using it normally, but when the system boots it reaches even 71, so don't worry, it won't burn or explode hehe. And as it was already mentioned it has an overheat protection

I am currently using a GNEX that is now almost 2 years old so i am due for a new phone. So far the Xperia Z is at the top of my list followed by the HTC One.
However there is one thing that bothers me about the Z. The overheating issues i have been hearing about.
To current Z owners. How bad is this issue and has Sony explained what is causing this and if they intend to fix it?
I don't think there is an overheating issue. The phone back gets a bit hot under certain conditions but never has it affected my use. I have a feeling it is due to the tight packaging of the phone and the use of glass which causes this, but I really isn't an issue. Don't let that scare you away from the phone.

Yes, it is not a problem at all. Trust me. Also, I integrated the 3-phase thermal protection into my custom kernel and it works like a charm, keeping it cool all the time.
It does get warm rather quick but it is really only a warmth, not "hot". My old milestone 2 used to be permanently warm and quite hot when using it (especially internet use on 3g). My S2 was usually pretty cool, but got close to painfully hot when playing intensive games like modern combat. So far, the xperia Z hasn't got as hot as either of these phones for me.
The phone does get hot but only when using chrome so I'm sure its not an issue just a bug. I know that phones can get a little hot and I accept that but when I first experienced the heat coming from the top of the phone it was enough to worry me. I am however confident that it will be resolved so I'm not worried.
I really never heard that issue before...
Buy this and amaze

To be exact there is no such thing in the XZ as overheating. At least I did not hear of "overheating". Some phones tend to get a bit warmer during intensive tasks, but not excessive.
BTW, the difference between a bit warm and overheating is that overheating is actually a thermal "shock" that would usually lead to a restart of your device, or a smoking device.
well mine gets hot when i use the screen a lot. System Tuner shows me that the cpu gets up to 49 degrees. I'm really thinking of buying Cooler Master 212 for the cpu I'm really concerned about the cpu life.

Hi,
Just thought i would let you know. I had my Xperia Z three weeks. On sunday it was on charge and my phone rang. I took it off charge and answered the call.
The screen was extremely hot then it cracked in my ear. There are a few others that i know of on sony forums who reported this issue but Sony are refusing to replace my phone saying its not a "manufacturing issue".
Im left without a phone and starting legal action against them.

I also happen To have this issue, my phone gets got to the point it hurts my skin! I even use a case and the case gets really hot too
When i play S.surfers for about 45 minutes I see that the game doesn't run smoothly.Eventually the display also becomes warmer and that results that the display does not respond properly on my fingers.

mine reaches 45° too sometimes when it's hot outside.. i'd say everything under 50° is okay, because don't forgett that aluminum gets hot way faster than plastic. so maybe another phone gets hot too, but you don't recognize it..

But if the thermometer is reading a higher temperature, it means the battery is hotter, not necessarily just the case.
What is the browsing temp for an S4?
I think having a aluminium body is a nice thing as at-least the screen remains cool.
Had a SGS 4 its screen would really turn hot Body can be tolerated as you can cover it but not possible with screen. Now as your phone also getting heated to 45 , I am ok with it as i thought it was problem with mine.

My s4 stays well above 35*C when idle and above 45*c when doing light tasks.
it even reaches 60*c . main problem is that the screen gets too hot and its impossible to touch it .

60°C... this is getting dangerous, because there's a way of reactions in this temperatures with Li-Po/Li-Ion batterys that destroy the cell structure..

The One actually has some good heat management in my opinion.
Remember that aluminum is a natural heat conductor and commonly used for heatsinks on engines and CPUs. It will generally feel a little warmer then a plastic phone but that just means its working

Haha what do you have against the Note 3? Ive read everywhere people arent that fond of it. Maybe it was because all those comments on it I read in this subforum haha. The rattle is because of the camera lens. The lens needs a little room to jiggle in order to focus on target. All the phones are like this, including premium built devices like iPhone 4/4S/5/5S, HTC One/X/X+ AND LUMIA 1020 all of which I had or worked with, that God awful note 3 is no exception either! Who would want low quality build, bad display etc when you can get premium phones like Z1, Z Ultra !
Seriously, you buy a new phone and the plastic frame looks like one of those parts you scissor out to build cars, boats, planes with glue. There's chips and black spots on the cheap plastic frame from the start.
Not to mention how friggin HOT samsung phones get. I'm glad I got some sense into me even if it took a all these years to switch, I was scared but damn, I'm glad I did it.
On another note, I hope Sonys phones in the future never have glossy plastic, that's really disgusting.

Word bro. My S3 got to 45 degrees from having chrome and g+ open. Its one of the main reasons i switched. (and also the less than premium feel and look.) Shure the Z1 is a bit heavier than most phones, but i guess being the best looking android phones comes at the cost of weight.

After having the Z1 I cannot go back to plastic lol, I love the premium feel.
No idea what the temp threshold is but coming from a HTC One, I can tell you that it feels no where near as hot as that phone did, that was a hot phone, great, but hot.
The Z1 does reboot on it's own now and again, which is weird, not everyone has it but i have and so have quite a few people who i know.

In northern hemisphere the first summer for this phone is starting. we will see about overheating in June.
No overheating here too. I'm using a Spigen TPU cover so it should be getting even warmer than in other situations but it doesen't. The highest I've seen is 27°C with the internal probe which means barely hotter than skin surface outside. Also it cools down really rapidly even with the case on.
Hello guys,
I'm using this Phone for 3 months now.
I had an unfortunate event where I dropped my ROG 2 from a height of less than 2 feet on a stone floor, and the display went crazy and finally went all dark. Luckily, the screen glass did not crack and the phone did not get any scratches and thus I was able to get the screen replaced in warranty. They changed the display, motherboard and battery, which I don't know why.
The work done by the service center was really good, however, now it seems that my ROG 2 isn't performing to its best. When I run benchmarks I get a score which is less than even a Snapdragon 845.
What I think is after the service, the device must be thermal throttling maybe because the service center guys may have not correctly assembled the cooling copper pad or the thermal paste.
The phone never seems to heat up, as it was heating up earlier, hence I seriously doubt it is because of thermal throttling like crazy.
Can I ask for an exchange under warranty for this issue?
I want to know the reason for the same, can anyone please help me?
Last thing I noticed is the AIDA64 thermal for SOC is stuck at 89°C!!! I have attached screenshot.
Please also check my 3DMark SlingShot Extreme results.
Is this normal? ?
:crying:
Seems to be reporting wrong, mines actually higher at 94c
On my Asus Rog phone 2 it shows 13C° on soc. So yeah some one must of done a mistake when they changed your motherboard and such on your phone. Also you have rights to complain to service center about problem and have them correcting it under warranty again.

Its almost definitely reporting wrong though as if it was running at 84c it would burn the hell out of your hand
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:51 PM ----------
That said though, your scores are low, so it may be thermal throttling, I don't think the SOC temp is right though, it would burn you if it was that hot
Is that degrees C or Fahrenheit?
