[Q]Can the 2nd microphone be used as default - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently ran into some hardware issues which resulted in me losing the main microphone of my Xperia Z (it literally broke off from the flex cable). I am now forced to use the headset for every call i make, but this usually results in me missing a lot of calls. I did a service test and discovered that the 2nd (noise cancellation) microphone actually works and it made me wonder if there is a way/software i can use to use the 2nd microphone as the primary to make calls, voice commands& recording.
Any help will be appreciated greatly

Good Conversation Recorder for HTC Phones??

Hi
Have been using Resco Audio recorder and Vito Audio Notes to record phone conversation but in both the softwares i could only here my voice clearly and the other persons voice is not audible at all. I have faced this problem on ALL HTC DEVICES but the same software worked amazing on XDA Xing and ATOM. cam someone help me here as to what settings to change or what software to use for proper recording.
Thanks
all of these programs will record if the phone is on speaker.
read the documentations, as some phone do not provide duplex conversations, or something like that.
once you set the call on speaker, all works fine, but it's kind of inconvenient.
yea if i remember correctly, it has something to do with the way that the voice calling was implemented in the device that it will only record your voice.
straight from resco.net from the audio recorder page:
(Both sides recording is hardware dependent. If your recording contains voice of one side only, it is not due to the program's failure.)
On my old PPC6700 mine worked fine with the call volume all the way high, The other person sounded a bit low, but if you want you can edit the call on a PC and make them louder. It all depends how often do you plan to record your convos.
I'm recording both sides without speaker or any other hazzle...
This is what I've done:

Do you really intend to unbury every 1+ year old topic on that subject? I think people got it by now. Make ONE thread with full relevant info, that will do it.

Primary Microphone problem

Hi
I have a Xperia Z1 and i have MIC issues. It is a primary mic. People can not hear me well, there is sparkling and like waterfall/windy sound.
I tryed Factory reset and it doesnt work. Secondary MIC working fine but not Primary.
Even when recording videos it is the same.
What is the issue of this? Is it standard problem with Z1? Its not expensive to replace to new one but i just wonder if someone other have same issue?
Where is the MIC flex cable located?
I do have the same problem.. But only with whatsapp sound messages, everything else works fine..
can't figure out how to fix this or what is causing this problem.. :/
Ye it is wierd but for me nothing works not even calls

Can someone help me where the mic is located?
I found a mic on top of the phone under the cover and disabled it and turn phone on and tryed to see if it is any
sound recording but i still got same issue even when mic us not connected to mainboard.
Is it wrong MIC? It has primary and secondary where are they located? Please help
Ok i found it

The MIC i disconnected was secondary mic. The primary mic is on bottom of the phone built in with speakers i think.
I believe I have the exact same problem. The primary microphone seems to have died completely or people could just hear a distorted "canny" voice. I have no idea how to solve this.
I have even more miracious issue - my microphone (in C6903, Qualcom MSM8974, software: 14.5.A.0.270, Android 5.0.2, kernel: 3.4.0) works only in Whatsup and not Viber (which is another communicator) and normal call ?
How is it possible that mic works in Whatsup but not in Viber ?
Thanks,
Artur

[Q] Mocrophone Issue

Hey, I've noticed that my Z1 does not correctly use the main microphone of the device. When using any action requiring the main mic, (such as; making phone calls, google now voice commands, voice recognition and Diagnostics, etc.) it doesn't record or recognise any input at all. When I ran Diagnostics all I heard was a sound of air...
I've noticed though, that when recording video the sound quality is low and that when the main speaker is in use, the microphone works (using loudspeaker during calls).
Clearly a Software issue? Since I've upgraded to 4.4.x (I think).
Any ways to resolve this? (recently had a repair on the whole exterior including speaker grill which included factory reset/software upgrade and the problem still persists.)

Click to collapse
if problem remains after Repairing by PCC
try to flash another stock rom from another region
after this if problem remains there should be an issue in hardware
maybe water damage or something like this!

Switch between microphones

Hello everyone ?. It's my first question here. Before starting, i have to admit your great contribution to make Android easier and comfortable. Thank you for that. As for the question:
My pixel 2 xl phone's main microphone is broken but it's secondary microphone is working. That is, during video shoots or voice recordings upper microphone works fine, but the bottom microphone doesn't pick up any sound (completely dead). I'm unable to use voice typing and voice assistant, send voice memos in WhatsApp and messenger as well.
Is there any way to permanently redirect the primary microphone to the secondary one, so that for ALL calls, voices and applications will be redirected and the secondary (upper) microphone is used to pick up sound?
I'm having the same issue as well. Hope someone can help us.
Can't help specifically because I don't have this phone. What I've heard is that blowing into the bottom speaker sometimes makes the mic work again. Or turning on the speakerphone (loudspeaker) during a call might help. I though Google was repairing services with this problem.
I would guess that it's not possible to force the video mic to act as a primary mic due to software design restrictions. But if it's possible to change the focus, I would look for a custom setting that tells the software which mic to use.
See this link to get an idea how to look for a custom setting: https://forum.joaoapps.com/index.ph...ings-to-use-in-autotools-secure-settings.210/

Microphone not working in call

All of a sudden, my microphone does not work in a call. Regardless of if I originate the call or answer a call, the other party can not hear me. Works fine through speaker phone or Bluetooth. I've searched as much as I can online for a fix, but no results. So far I have done the following:
-Installed a third party phone app
-Tried safe mode
-Tried to repair in the Xperia Companion app on my PC (actually made things worse - couldn't make or receive calls)
-Full restore to factory defaults (fixed the call issues, but not the mic issue)
The tests in the support app fails to hear a frequency change.
Since the microphone works in speak phone, I assume this is still a software issue and not a hardware issue (unless the speakerphone uses a different mic).
I'm stuck and could use some advice.
Thanks
I have the same problem for several months
I have the impression that I had this problem since I put underwater
the only solution I found is to put in loudspeaker or use headphones
