Hi all, sorry if this has been posted somewhere else on XDA. I used Fastboot with the code that sony sent me a while back to unlock my Bootloader. What I want to do now is to lock my Bootloader again to update to the new official rom. I would however love to flash a custom rom, but can't find a detailed enough step by step guide as to how. Also flashing custom kernals sounds risky, not sure if it is though, being the reason why I have not flashed anything beyond the Botloader. Help would be greatly appreciated.
You can use official 4.3 without relocking your bootloader.

Ok I am not an expert but first thing is if u are flashing a custom kernel then your bootloader must be unlocked.Since you have a locked bootloader so u have to flash recovery for locked bootloaders only else ur phone will not boot. Also being on a locked bootloader, u cannot flash roms like aosp(cm,aokp, pac etc.) U can only flash stock based roms which don't require u to flash custom kernels.

Why you wanna downgrade?
Anyway, before any downgrade process, be sure to wipe all data.
If you don't wipe data you will have problems with nfc firmware causing in a bootloop

This was the first ROM I flashed on my T and as far as I can remember it ran perfectly. Which ROM were you coming from? Unless you're flashing a nightly then you should do a full wipe, especially if you're going from ROMs where there will be major changes.

Yes and no...
You'll have read/write in recovery but only read in OS.
So basically, you'll have fully working root but you'll have to flash MODs or system APKs from recovery.
That shouldn't be problem...
This is (at the moment) best way to root your 4.3 OS
Sent from my Z1
If you have unlocked the bootloader and flashed one of the modified stock kernels from here then you have full root, and can write to system. I have done it several times today.
Kernel issue?
Ok, I followed this to the best of my knowledge but when I tried to flash the kernel.sin it kept giving an error that it's not a boot image... so I flashed the kernel from firmware in flashmode (by using the ftf but excluding everything besides kernel). Root apps work fine to my knowledge now, but am I supposed to be missing recovery now? I've tried installing busybox with no luck and can't get into recovery to install the zip. I'm guessing I did something wrong flashing the kernel in flashmode instead of fastboot. Can you give me advice? Thanks.
Edit: Got it with above post, thanks.

You should backup TA and DRM keys but if you are on 4.3 you can't because you need root. You have to downgrade to 4.2.2, root the system, backup everything, update again and follow the steps.

I got so amazing battery life so I'm scared to flash it again because from my experience when someting working very well you should not messing up with that. I will follow the steps to root this way only if I will had the opportunity to backup my TA and DRM keys, just in case something go wrong, without have to downgrade to 4.2.2. I do not want to downgrade at all so still undecided what do. I probably will wait and enjoy my phone this holidays and see if in few week coming up something new.
Anyway I still don't know well why I should backup my TA and DRM keys if with 4.3 everything working fine.

20mpx in iAuto seem to be worse than expected, this was said from users with that FTF. I also don't care about that but I don't like restricted devices at all and even if the pictures are not good as they should be I will like anyway to have that option, switch between 20 and 8. We don't know yet why Vodafone has that but to me is just a marketing move to be interested more on they stuff.

Nobody know who locked the phones, Vodafone or Sony, and why, can be for FTF compatibility, restrictions or something else.
Anyway with Locked Bootloader you can install custom rooms, you can install stock kernels, you can root your phone if it's on Android 4.2.2 but on 4.3 the rooting for Locked BL still in developing so you have to wait. The only thing which you can't install on your phone with locked BL is custom kernels. That's all.

This is not possible at the moment, you have to wait.
I'm working on getting it rooted as we speak, i'll update you on my progress, shouldn't be hard.
Okay it's a long winded approach to get rooted, but i guess it will have to do for the time being... Until a new updated rooting tool is available.
Okay here goes, you will need these things:
SuperSU Install zip
Doomkernel v08 kernel.elf file
Stock Sony 4.3 kernel, attached to this post.
A brain and common sense.
Lets go then, first install the stock android 4.3 FTF....
Once this is done disconnect your phone, put it into fastboot mode and install the Doomkernel. Now upon boot, go into recovery, and install the SuperSU zip normally.
Once this is done, power off your phone (Holding down the power and volume up)
Go into Fastboot mode again, and install the provided stock Sony 4.3 Kernel.
Unplug your phone, boot it, and there you go, rooted stock android 4.3.
If you have any questions ask, no question is too stupid, or PM me and i'll help you best I can.
