[Q] Most stable rom with following... - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to flash my friend's s5830, because she has problem with proximity sensor. I tried many brand firmwares but they all have same problem with proximity reaction...
Could you give me suggestions which rom choose to give her most stable and fast working experience from her phone? It can be 2.3.6, 4.1.2 even 4.4 but it must have no annoying bugs and working proximity. I want to give some boost to her phone to increase speed when flashing when fixing the main problem.
Waiting for your ideas

I've an idea... but FIRST OF ALL WRONG SECTION
You must read rules and then post in the correct section...
Next time use the Q&A Thread, thank you for understanding it
...
If you have already tried several firmwares and it didn't work maybe your problem is a HARDWARE problem...Official firmwares have NO problems with proximity sensor :weird: but custom roms sometimes

[Solved] bluish / blueish screen (blue tint / hue) after flashing AOSP ICS + on I9000

There's a known problem for a little amount of Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 devices that are getting bluish screen after flashing AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.x) and above.
By bluish screen I mean that there's a dark blue color - a blue tint / hue all over the screen.
This bluish screen appears everywhere in the ROM, in the recovery, and even when charging the phone while it's off.
There are videos and screenshots which demonstrates this issue here.
According to @DerTeufel1980 and @pawitp, this issue is caused by the updated framebuffer driver of the Nexus S in the CyanogenMod 9 kernels, and the actual problem is that some devices contain incorrect calibration data.
In this thread I'd like to share the ROMs and apps that I tried in search for the newest and most stable working ROM for problematic devices, and to list useful posts, threads and links.
I hope this thread will help ones with problematic devices, and that it will save them time and effort.
Edit: this issue is fixed by detecting the invalid calibration data and setting sane default values instead.
While this fix is implemented by @pawitp in CyanogenMod 11 ROMs from the cm-11-20140214-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip ROM and above, not all of the developers implemented it in their ROMs yet.
To know which ROMs we can flash please look at this list.
Ones who are interested might find more information about the fix of this issue here:
This issue is fixed by detecting the invalid calibration data in the CyanogenMod's aries kernel, and setting sane default values instead.
This fix was implemented in the android_kernel_samsung_aries/drivers/video/samsung/s3cfb_tl2796.c file.
The fixed source code can be viewed in:
CyanogenMod's Gerrit Code Review
CyanogenMod's GitHub
In addition, here is a link to the fix subject page in CyanogenMod's Gerrit Code Review.
Note that there was a previous fix, but it caused yellowish screen to users who didn't have the bluish screen.
More information about it can be found in CyanogenMod's Gerrit Code Review in the fixed build subject page and in it's revert page.
I'd like to appreciate @pawitp for being willing to help and solve this issue and for his truly tremendous effort to the community.
If someone is interested to see what ROMs and apps I tried before the fix, and interested in a list useful posts, threads and links that are connected to this issue:

Summarization (note that this was written before there was a fix)
People who are having this issue can use stock ROMs (Gingerbread 2.3.6), CyanogenMod 7.2.0 (Gingerbread 2.3.7), and any AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.7 and below without been affected by this issue.
Replacing the screen digitizer might solve this issue. That did it for @MrCabana as posted here
If you know something that is not summarized here and might solve this issue or help to it somehow, please post it here

Notes
@Soryuu posted a great thread which helps choosing a ROM.
@SferaDev announced that he will patch all of the future releases of his ROMs (OmniROM, Paranoid Android and Nameless), so we'll have other great ROMs to flash.
Although the bluish screen issue was fixed by @pawitp in CyanogenMod 11 ROMs, not all of the developers implemented the fix in their ROMs yet.
Therefore if you want to flash a ROM that is not on this list, make sure this issue is fixed in it.
For an easy reference, ask the ROM's developer if he implemented the s3cfb: tl2796: detect invalid factory calibration data fix in his kernel. More information about this fix is available in the first post. If the ROM is indeed suitable for us, please update me so I'll update this ROM in the above list.
Users who know other ROMs who can work for devices with this bluish screen issue, and wish to add them to this list - please notify me (here or in PM) and I'll gladly add them.
Post's change log

Glad to know it was NOT a hardware problem, that means my first guess was right.
Thank you very much for the great work, guys !!!!

Well brother, a lot of credit goes to you since I got a lot of information from you, and it was you who got me realizing that this is a program issue and not a hardware one.
You got me motivated to keep trying and reading and researching, and I'm so glad that pawitp was, and is, willing to help solving this issue.
Thanks a lot!

I am glad I was of help for others who face this same problem in the future.
If it's not asking too much, since I got some brain's attention for this device, I have another problem/question to report (I can start another thread if you guys think is necessary).
The problem is ... after replacing the "uncalibrated screen" with a brand new one, the battery indicator stopped working. That means the phone will always report it as 100% charged and won't allow the cable to charge it. I have to wait until it shuts down with no more power and charge it outside the device with a spare charger.
Secondly, the back camera stopped working while front camera is perfect. Both of them are attached with the same connectors to the MOBO, making them just 1 single part. How can one work perfect and the other one just go dead like that?
Thirdly, the USB connection is hard to be stablished with the computer. Even in service mode (i.e. to use odin). It does connect sometimes, but then it freezes even during a ROM update. This is making it impossible for me to mess with it and roll back to Froyo if things go wrong.
Again, those 3 problems CAN be due to malfunctioning hardware, but I believe it 's too much of a coincidence for these 3 unrelated things to happen right after the screen replacement, followed by an update to a nightly build of CyanogenMOD (don't remember exactly which one).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problems occurred only after the update? If so, revert. (I know that you don't have a USB connection, but you can take your sdcard to another device and copy to it the latest stable ROM)
If not, then if you ask me - it might be a hardware issue. It's very probable since before it you had no issues with the same ROM.

I don't have another battery nor different ROM's. I tried to revert to Froyo, but since USB is malfunctioning, I gave up on it. Recovery mode also reports battery as 100% even if it's nearly dead.

Yes, the connector is looking okay to me. I removed it myself very carefully while replacing the digitizer. I'm almost sure it is NOT a hardware problem.

I tried many different cables and USB ports. Both chassis front and rear mobo. Even different PC's. Same results. 1 every 30 tries will let me use ODIN, and 1 every 30 tries, ODIN will complete uploading. That's frustrating.

The problems occurred right after replacing the digitizer. Since I had Android 4.2.2 already installed, I didn't insist on trying different ROM's or rolling back to Froyo.

I must admit that it's not looking good since it's probably a hardware issue. If not, why these 3 things stopped working right after you replaced the digitizer?
However, if you want my advice, do open a new thread with appropriate topic name and include all this information so others will see it. Maybe someone will suggest something that we didn't think of.
In addition, while Android 4.2.2 is already installed in your device, don't forget that you can continue updating to newer versions:

First of all, congratulation! I had no doubt you'll do it easily.
These 3 problems will persist in this and in any ROM, since unfortunately it seems like a hardware problem.
However, I might be wrong (hopefully), and posting a dedicated thread for these problems will make them exposed to others so you might get some good solutions for them.
Good luck!

Oops, Sorry need4steer for sending a PM to you.. I don't know I can post on this thread..
By the way.. I figured what my problem is.. It's Screen Burn In.. That problem on screen I encountered was not only happening when playing flappy bird, it's noticeable on bright displays, tried some apps that can remove it.. I tried the "Screen Burn-In Tool" Tried it for 8 hours of non-stop color switching, but nothing changes at all.. Any remedies to remove the screen burn ins in my Galaxy S GT-I9000?

Hi
I'm not familiar with the screen burn in issue.
However, a Google search for i9000 screen burn in site:forum.xda-developers.com or i9000 screen burn in on top site:forum.xda-developers.com shows a lot of interesting threads in this forum.
In addition, since this thread is dealing with the bluish screen issue and not with the burn in issue, I think it'll be the best if you'll post a new thread in this forum so your problem will be exposed to others and they'll be able to give additional and more appropriate solutions.
BTW, it's always better to post screenshots, so be sure to include the ones you sent me in PM.
If you need any help whatsoever please notify me and I'll do my best
Good luck!

GT-i9305 CM11 known issues (or DONE/TODO lists)
Hi all,
I'm interested on CM11 in GT-i9305 (I own gt-i9305, I'm running running CM10 and I would have some new features included in CM11 (i.e.: LowEnergy Bluetooth). Btw I'm afraid about it because CM11 has not a stable release, maybe it will never has a stable(/RC) release... So I'd like to know what features are running and what else is not running... because I'd like to have new (CM11) features but I want my phone to not lose what is ok in CM10...
Looking at Known Issues page (wiki - Known_Issues_page_for_i9305) I see CM10.1 and CM10.2 related issues... but not CM11 ones...
There are any lists that users can see to make a conscious chose? I want to assess what features I'm going to lose upgrading to CM11 (camera was working in CM10... it doesn't work in CM11, I suppose).
I know gt-i9305 CM11 official thread... btw it's more than 100 pages, so Its not useful.
My revious phone was Motorola-Defy (MB525) and CM thread (first message) spoke about features, installing procedure, TODO list, know issues... GT-i9305 CM11 official thread doesn't include TODO (not running list)
Thanks in advance

There are any lists that users can see to make a conscious chose? I want to assess what features I'm going to lose upgrading to CM11 (camera was working in CM10... it doesn't work in CM11, I suppose).
I know gt-i9305 CM11 official thread... btw it's more than 100 pages, so Its not useful.
My revious phone was Motorola-Defy (MB525) and CM thread (first message) spoke about features, installing procedure, TODO list, know issues... GT-i9305 CM11 official thread doesn't include TODO (not running list)
Thanks in advance

Samsung I9305 Dock Audio with Cyanogenmod 11 fix
Since installing Cyanogenmod KitKat4.4.4, 11-20150105-NIGHTLY-i9305, the main issue I had was I could no longer use my Samsung Desktop Dock EDD-D200BE to output audio, with the help of TKMAS on the Cyanogenmod Forum, I found there was an issue with the "audio_policy.conf" file, located in system/etc, it was missing a line of text in the devices line under "audio_hw_modules" just adding to the end of the line the following
|AUDIO_DEVICE_OUT_DGTL_DOCK_HEADSET
and saving the file, rebooted my phone and audio now comes out of the dock, I found the audio_policy.conf info here https://android.googlesource.com/device/samsung/manta/+/jb-mr1-dev/audio_policy.conf
CM WiFi power saving mode
Yes. Just go to Settings->Wi-Fi and then click on Menu->Advanced. You'll find here useful options such as "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep", "Wi-Fi optimization" and "Avoid poor connections"

same problem here
Just had my stint with the latest two official nightlies, 0406 and 0412, and the camera is even worse when I first tried this rom in january. FCs, cant connents, even freezes up and reboots the phone, on a few days old, fresh wiped install. The so called "fix" just removed my camera as a whole, even other apps (Insta, Google camera), and full factory reset didnt work after that. I had to reflash from zip.
idk if this is the right thread to ask but...
what is this camera problem, and if there was a fix, why isnt this integrated in CM ages ago?
whats the point of compiling official CM nightlies till its camera is not working flawlessly out of the box? completely useless this way.
how come theres nothing in the developement thread, when almost every week a new compile comes out?
and foremost, who compiles these official nightlies when the OP behind it declared out of the project..???
sorry if im noob, but someone can explain this to me? CM is a huge disappointment for me, as I waited eagerly to put it up as my phone warranty expires. I never thought Id say stock TWiz is much better then this.
but im willing to give another try if someone helps who to get this working properly out of the box, because I liked the speed and simplicity. thx...

Not sure what to advice on problems report for nightly not yet built. (Nov. 14th) 14.11 is next week
Generally speaking don't jump into advice to Odin flash latest modem.bin and specific NOT NON-HLOS.bin to fix anything. It can create more issues.
When switch between different AOSP /CM based roms (your forum history tell you have been in PAC world lately) a thorough clean-up is best advice. CWM format data, dalvik, cache and /system before CWM flash latest cm-11-20141103 and latest gapps. Or I can confirm CM11 - 1029 with Location mode =device only lock fast on Glonass and US sat.
I have never flashed any modem or NON-HLOS.bin separately to fix whatever.
Sorry, actually i am on cm-11-20141104... So i will try clean my System an re-flash it. Ty

Nope, the i537 has a locked bootloader, so you cannot use any ROM that requires a custom kernel. Start reading about SafeStrap, it's your only choice.
What about the i537?
If this rom doesnt work with it then what does? I really want to run Pac Roms on this phone, because I love how well it runs on my nexus tablet. I just cant find roms for this thing anywhere!

You need to search for SafeStrap compatible ROMs. You'll probably find them in the AT&T S4 forum.
A lot of people have good things to say about Hyperdrive.

Nope, you can use this ROM, you'll just need to put in the T-Mo APN settings in order to connect to the T-Mo network.

Friends, this powerful this ROM, I love, but I have a problem with the camera. sometimes it tells me that my camera could not connect, anyone have any advice to give solution to my problem. I also want to know if it is possible to flash the camera's native s4 active beforehand grace.
Same problem on camera, i think it's related to porting, some libs not perfect.
Usually i made a fast reboot (not fully) and then works .
For flashing native camera, i think that will not work cause many tw files are missing.

Greetings,
Today I was charging my S3 (i9305) and turned off the power. I later discovered that my phone was still on even though I had turned it off. I found out that when charging my phone with the power off it rebooted my phone. I don't know if it's a problem with the Rom or phone. Help would be appreciated. (I have attached a picture of what my phone gets stuck on before it reboots). Thanks.

Hi,
Im not sure but maybe this is the old bootloader issue..are you on new or old bootloader? and have you installed agni kernel that comes by default with the rom? cause i thought that the reboot issue only was present in the boeffla kernels for this rom, which i have removed from the rom thread some time ago, because they were not stable.
It is definately not a rom problem, cause im using this rom every day (btw im on new 4.4.4 bootloader) and i didnt had any reboots from the 1st day till this time also not with the 4.3 bootloader, using Agni kernel 4.9 everything works fine, even offline charging works, but from this we already knew that offline charging was working well on new bootloader.

Well the case is that the bootloader is not something you can find separately and flash it for example like a flashable zip, the only way to update the bootloader is by flashing 4.3 or 4.4.4 official firmware from sammobile.com or any other site where you can download samsung official firmwares, and it has the KNOX feature included which really sucks, therefore these bootloaders are also called KNOX bootloader. You can check what bootloader you have at the moment by booting into downloadmode and in left upper corner of the downloadmode screen if there is a line saying ´´KNOX WARRANTY VOID´´ means you already have the new knox bootloader and since the new Android 4.4.4 now there is also a line in blue color saying ´´SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLED'' which is the case with me.
If you like to update the bootloader you can do that, in my signature there is a link to ODIN guide, also there is a link in the guide for if you want to learn more about knox bootloader before you do anything, cause when you flash 4.3 or 4.4.4 official firmware the knox bootloader will remain forever with the device, its not something you can delete like an .apk file, the bootloader is part of the device structure.
This knox bootloader seems to cause problems with installing custom roms or applying root etc. (not for everyone though) but im now KNOXED for some time and never had actually any kind of problem installing custom roms or rooting etc. besides that i think that our i9305 is now getting old and 4.4.4 is probably the last official update to come from Samsung, so it doesnt really matter to be knoxed or not knoxed at this time IMHO and most of the people dont care anymore about warranty being void, but if you like to avoid such small issues like device rebooting by itself or any other issue caused by the old bootloader with 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 custom roms, i recommend everyone to update the bootloader if you plan to run 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 custom roms as daily driver.
If you are still not sure about this or you dont understand something, you can always look for more info in the general Q&A thread or just do some research on the internet.
Cheers
Thank you

Memory leak?
First of all thank you very much to everybody who has been taking apart of developping this rom. It works generally really well. However my SGS has developped some sort of memory leak. During usage it starts litle by litle to loose amount of available memory and at the same time the amount of preloaded apps to memory is also shrinking(according to settings). Eventually available memory goes under 50Mb and phone slows down to unusable. Restart fixes the problem. Sotimes it works days or even a week sometime less.
This same problem aready existed with he origial rom(2.2.1). Eaven after a factory reset it only worked well a couple of hours. Updated with odin to 2.3.6 but touchwiz launcher was freesing all the time. Installed CM11 trough CM9 and formatted system and wiped caches before C11 . Everyting seems to work well but the original problem still remains. Although it now works much longer than with the original rom.
Hardware problem? Some app causing this(only apps running all the time is whatsapp and smooth calendar(according to settings))? Time to buy a new phone?

hi,
i have sgs 1 i9000 international version
after flashing from stock kernel/rom android 2.3.6 to Semaphore_kernel_JVT_1.8.0 for root, i've got cm 9 (cm-9.0.0-galaxysmtd.zip) with Semaphore_ICS_1.3.0. if i try to go higher cm 10-10.2 or cm 11 i get error status 0 after tyring to install from sd card the zip. tried redownloading the zip. using different version from cm site.
still using semaphore kernel with cwm tried all versions installed with odin for JB for cm10 and KK for cm 11. still i get status 0 at install.
done the wipe cache dalvik and factory reset every time before install.
usually to escape the bootloop and reboot i flash the Semaphore_ICS_1.3.0 again as my rom remains unchanged(hopefully ) after the failed installs. isn't my device compatible with cm10-11. do i need another kernel/cwm version?

So now when you have CM9, you should flash CM10.2. It is normal that it first warns, as system partition will be enlarged.
So in fact you must flash it three times and reboot. First time it will only warn of data lost due to upcoming repartition. Second time it will only update recovery to CWM 6.0.4.5. Third time it will flash ROM and after that you must reboot the device.
After being booted into the OS once, you can install CM11. Recovery versions older than CWM 6.0.4.5 or TWRP 2.6.3.1 can not flash KitKat.

Hello guys! This is my first post here. I couldnt read all 300+ pages thats why i wanted to ask you. I read only positive comments about this rom but I can not se anyone having Bettery drain problem. I installed the ROM 2 days ago and the battery is just draining so fast. For example yesterday I took my phone off the charger at 11:00am and until 04:00pm it had 15 percent battery remaining with only little using and browsing the web for like 5-10 minutes. I can't be the only one having this problem. In the settings I see the Google play services, android system and display are having the best percentage. Please give me some answer or solution to this. I cant use my phone for just few hours a day.
Problem with virginmobile after cm11 install
My apn is set to ee carrier, instead of virginmobile and my carrier shows as orange - uk carriers btw. I know vm piggyback on ee network but when I search for carriers hardly any show up. Is this a known problem and is there a fix (modem flash or other).
Is the nightly 11 version smoother when compared to the stable 10.2.1? What are the main bugs, if any?
Is there any way to make art runtime to work? I'm using the latest nightly but it stucks in bootloop each time i select art
Problem with touch-input
I have a question concerning a bug I am experiencing. Often I am not able to make any touch-command on the right wing of the screen, about 1cm, this is especially annoying when it happens during typing. I did not experience the same bug on the original firmware, I believe. The occurence is not bound to any special app, it even happens on the Home screen.
Is this a known bug and is anyone experiencing the same? Any suggestions what causes this?
Is there a way to increase the RAM and speed up the phone?
So I installed this ROM (11-20311118-UNOFFICIAL-galaxysmtd which is one of the older versions of CyanogenMod 11) on my Samsung Galaxy S i9000, but I encountered a few issues:
- I occasionally lose the Wi-Fi connection, and although it does reconnect itself in a short time, there is a problem with some online games — when the connection is lost, the game is lost which really bothers me.
- Some of the apps that seek a lot RAM memory to be used are really slow-running, like for example Snapchat — the back camera can barely be used and the snaps need much time to open.
- The screen can be unlocked without having to slide, that can be done by only pressing the button on the left side of the home button, which is probably a minor issue.
- Sometimes the phone just bricks when I get a call and I can't answer it, which is one of the major issues.
So, I wanna know if there is a way to fix these issues and maybe a way to increase my RAM memory or get Snapchat to work smoothly. Also, I wanted to ask if some of the newer versions of CyanogenMod 11 (KitKat 4.4) or any other ROM, like Jelly Bean 4.3 or the SlimCat ROMs, can fix any of the mentioned issues. What is the best ROM for my Samsung Galaxy S i9000?
Thanks in advance!

OK, mate.... you seem to be nice fellow, so I will try to help, answers in order of your questions:
if you have dirty flashed CM11 build (over older version without formatting /data and /system): did you try pawitp's reset of wifi settings from the bottom of the OP in CM11 thread? Otherwise also changing wifi region might help (settings/wifi/advanced)
the i9000 has indeed only total 512 MB memory, of which some 364 MB can be used normally. Well, you can increase these by flashing in recovery mode zips of Semaphore kernel for KK (3.4.3) and right after that BigMem libs for KK from Mackay KK ROM Thread. Then enable in the app "Semaphore Manager" (Play Store) BigMem option, reboot, and you will have by default 407 MB memory.
I fail to understand your last question: do you mean that the phone freezes, reboots, or "brick"? Bricking would mean that your OS fails and you have to flash ROM again or restore backup??
Good morning guys.
I use Mia ROM rooted fw 2.2.1 on my Galaxy SL i9003.
Can i flash directly this ROM on my device to update it or there are other best light ROM for my device?
Thank you
