If this has been posted before my apologies. After getting my nexus I combed threw the settings and discovered that the keyboard has native emoji support. Now not only can you see emoji but you can send them now. To enable them go into your android keyboard settings then goto add on dictionaries. Enable emoji for English. Next go down to the advanced keyboard settings and enable switch to other input methods. Lastly go back to keyboard inputs and check the input iWnn IME. Once all these steps are down you will have a small globe icon on your native keyboard. Press this to switch to your new emojis! ?

When you say keyboard inputs do you mean input languages? I can't seem to find the last step.
Nevermind, I found it, you have to go into settings->language&input I was doing everything before that from the keyboard.
Very nice of you sir
Thank you

I'm also an my iPad and I can see them just fine, I'm sure Android doesn't support the iOS 6 emojis though. ??????????????????????? how does those look on 4.2? I won't have my Nexus 4 until Monday/Tuesday so I won't be able to test these

I wish I could tell you, I'm also currently playing the waiting game with google .
I too would like to know if iOS 6 emojis work on 4.2 , if someone can tell us that would be great.
They show up just fine on my GNex.. so I would imagine do on the N4 as well.
This is great, thank you! I use to have to copy and past within the messaging app on my galaxy nexus when it had cm10

Total Android noob and bought the N4 last Sunday. Did a factory reset and seem to have lost the iWnn IME file on my phone and can't use the emoji feature.
Any help?
Thanks.

It's been reported that a factory reset gets rid of the Emojii iWnn IME app. I think it's available on the Play Store anyways? I'm not sure. If anybody can pull it from their phones and post it here - that'll be great.
Thanks! ?????

I'm having trouble getting emoji to work in my SMS apps. Emoji works everywhere EXCEPT SMS apps. I downloaded GO SMS and the emoji plugin, and could only see the ones I sent. Received ones are boxes with question marks in them. I tried the same with Handcent and couldn't get it to work either. I had this same issue with my Evo LTE, but never had this problem on my Evo 3D. Could it be some interference with Jelly Bean?

I looked through settings and didn't see anything related. I hope this is something that just requires an app update. I still have at least a week till I will receive my One but if emjoi does't work my fiance will be pissed.

Yeah. It's especially annoying since I had this problem on my LTE. I was hoping that getting this device would fix the problem.

Another odd symptom I just found: my battery drained to 32% after three and a half hours, and GO SMS Emoji Plugin was causing most of the battery drain (61%). Not sure why that would happen.

So, I'm confused about the emoji on our phones.
It looks kinda like the emoji I'm used to, but did they re-skin all the icons to a new look?
And if it is emoji, why can't my wife see it on her Galaxy S4? And when I get emoji from my buddy's S4, all I see is a square.
I can send and receive the emojis from the keyboard fine. Are you using the ones where you long press the microphone button and pick the emoji keyboard?

Yup, those are the ones I am using.
Stock keyboard & stock texting app
EDIT:
So, when I send them to people with GoSMS, they can see the emoji. However, I can't see theirs.
Sending emoji to my wife's S4 (which just has the stock texting app) only show up as squares.

The phone sends the Samsung Emoji as MMS Messages thus anyone can see them... it does not covert iPhone Emoji to be visible... however since you are using GoSMS, go in the Play Store and download the GoSMS Emoji plugin and problem solved... you can send and receive real Emoji in GoSMS with it.
Ugh, I have no idea why after all these years no stock Android texting app has native emoji support. So I guess Samsung thought sending little pictures instead of integrating emoji was a good idea?
Idiots.
I used to use GoSMS on my S3, but I have no interest installing it again given all the ads and crap they've added. I guess I'll live with looking at squares when people send them to me.

handcent works great
Since I have a houseful of women (wife, teenage girls) with Iphones, having Iphone compatible emoji support was a must. Handcent works great! just install the emoji plugin, and all will be great! No Ads, just a great client (especially since they fixed the MMS problem I was having with my Note 3/ATT).

I have used handcent in the past. That along with GO and Chomp I'm sure they all 3 work fine. I would like to keep using the stock app because of multi window. Is that silly of me? Am I missing out by not using a 3rd party app? Thanks for all the advice everybody!

If you are rooted you can use the multiwindow manager app and add any of the 3rd party apps to it. I've done it with Chomp before.
The app is horrible especially with the stock keyboard. There is really no reason for this much screen to be taken up by the keyboard and text box. here is a screenshot of the stock app with Swype keyboard. you can see one message at most. http://i.imgur.com/ZhrM8rx.png
I've began just using the hangouts for mms with people. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone.
When I tried a couple other messaging apps that looked like stock 4.4 I started sending and receiving double messages. I really want to use another app because the stock version is horrible, but I'm resigned to using it right now until I can figure out how to fix this issue. It's probably my fault somehow, but it shouldn't be this difficult to figure out how to not send double messages constantly.
anyhow, the phone is awesome so far other than the messaging app.
does anyone know how to change the text size/messaging box in the stock messaging app? the settings were no help.
You could try hangout. That is what I am using now.

I actually had an issue with that when I first got it as well. I kinda just ignored it, until I got EvolveSMS. It has a small text window so the keyboard only takes up half the screen instead of 75% of it. Give it a try.
I like it. Just press back to read the entire convo
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
If you pinch or spread 2 fingers in the text box where you type it will enlarge or shrink the font size of the entire convo

hangouts FTW..
I just started using hangouts for my sms/mms also.. wondering though if there is a way to have the contacts app launch it for messages when I go into my contacts app? Or do I just have to start up hangouts all the time or maybe another contacts app that allows you to set what to launch into for messaging?
I'm using the EvolveSMS app.... It's a paid app tho...

Thanks for this. One of my gripes has been resolved.
I do love how it pops calls and texts on the screen in a bubble when you are in an app
Was just curious as to what messaging app most people was using and recommended. I like to find one that has pop up and possibly lock screen preview like the stock app. Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

For now, stock app until I find something I like better.
I was using Textra on my S3 but it didn't want to work well with kitkat so I went to hangouts. I think hangouts could be a really good app, but right now its terrible in the way its organized. Contacts are a mess to sort through, and every google account you have has the ability to send messages which makes things very difficult to manage if you end up sending messages from more than one.
I'm not a huge fan of the stock app...kind of ugly, but it works well.
I use Textra and I love it.
Thanks for the info. I will try out those. I liked the stock app but was getting lag using it. It want bad but bad enough to drive me nuts. Lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
I really liked the stock app until I imported all of my old texts from my I7777 and then the lag was unbearable. Nearly a 2 minute wait. Now I'm using Hangouts. Not as many features, but no lag.
Textra
EvovleSMS (this is the one I use)
HelloSMS
I tried all the popular ones...Go SMS, Textra, hello SMS, Hangouts, Evolve, etc. Hated all of them. I ended up sticking with chomp SMS. It's from the same developer that made biteSMS for the jailbroken iPhone, so I'm familiar with it. Plus, you can customize the theme to your liking. It has all the popular features: popups, quick reply/compose, delay sending, scheduled sending, privacy, etc.
Ever since my SGS 2, I always end up back with Textra. Black theme. Light, fast, actively developed and has all the necessary features. It's not overblown and just does it's job well.
I've been using Chomp for a long time and have been very happy with it. I've been trying out the stock messaging app for a few days, compared to past Samsung messaging apps, I'm impressed, but I'll probably be installing Chomp again soon...
Are there any messaging apps or themes for a messaging app that would make it flat? No matter how much I edit Chomp or Textra it just still doesn't look flat.

I use hangouts as my stock mainly because I can directly chat with my Google contacts. I have little reception where I live but still have WiFi so I can message my friends with android over a hangout instead of an SMS. I also very much like the layout and Android Emojis. I never liked textra, chomp, or handcent.

using stock messaging app here , rooted with twrp recovery , I have popup enabled when I get a msg and phone is locked (swipe to unlock set) I click the msg but then the phone lags at the lock screen ,and hangs. anyone else having problems with this ? or know a way to correct it ?
to get out of it I have to swipe to unlock then open up the messaging app it wont let me click the msg I got from the lock screen .
Was using ChompSMS but was getting a bit slow, switched to EvolveSMS but it's still really buggy, using Textra now. Slim, fast, quick reply / compose and not bogged down with tons of settings. Simple theme & emoji setup too. Be sure to download Textra emojis from app store.
since we are discussing the messaging apps, has anyone been getting random message alerts on old messages in the stock app? Phone was sitting on the counter last night charging and I heard it go off. Came out to find an alert for a message from tuesday that had already been read. Had this happen once before as well...alert on a previous read message. Never seen anything like it
From the sound of your needs, it seems like the stock app would suit your needs best. Why not use it? I don't really understand why some people seem to force themselves to use third party apps if the native ones work fine. :what:
