[Q] root access failed help - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone. I'm using my htc one m8 and I rooted my phone last night. Decided today to install Xposed Installer. When I hit install, a window pops up saying
Copying Xposed-Disable-Recovery.zip...
Mounting /system writable...
Segmentation fault
Could not mount /system writable
Trying to continue anyway...
Segmentation fault
Failed to create a backup of /system/bin/app_process
Then reboots my phone. I go into SuperSU and there is Xposed Installer with a green # next to it. I tap it and click forget to try and reinstall it. Sometimes the Root Access Failed message appears. Most times it's the message above. Please help!

[Q] Can't Install CWM Recovery

Hello All,
I have been in and out of every Dev and General forum about installing the CWM on Z8. Unfortunately I have yet to find a solid solution to the below errors when using MTM's ZV8CWMRecovery bat. I would be posting in related thread on the dev site, but I don't have enough posts to post in there. So far I have seen multiple users with this problem:
Recovery for ZV8
Press any key to continue . . .
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *

remount failed: Operation not permitted

rm failed for /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, Read-only file system
rm failed for /system/recovery-from-boot.p, Read-only file system
rm failed for /data/local.prop, No such file or directory
CWM Recovery!!!
Press any key to continue . . .
I have only seen a couple answers to this that actually address the error messages. One being to manually copy the local.prop into the data folder. I have tried taking the local.prop file and moving it to /data but when I do I get the error message on my phone saying java.io.filenotfoundexception:/data/local.prop (permission denied).
I feel that this has something to do with Superuser mainly because when I have tried to use other methods like using quick boot or Rom Manager to boot into recovery, I get messages saying that Super User has denied access.
1) Is anyone else having similar Super User problems when they get the CWM installation error above?
2) Can anyone think of a correlation bewtween the super User error and the CWM installation errors?
3) Can anyone give any usefull insight into what these mean?
rm failed for /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, Read-only file system
rm failed for /system/recovery-from-boot.p, Read-only file system
rm failed for /data/local.prop, No such file or directory
Any support is much appreciated.

I am going to try the suggestion in this thread right now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594369
I will let you know.
OK, I have decided that my main problem right now is that SuperUser is denying access to every program that could help me (Quick boot, Rom Manager, Terminal emulator). Every time I try and run any of those I get a message saying it was blocked by SU. I have set SU to allow all requests, yet it still Denies access?
Anyone with Ideas on how to stop this without starting from scratch?

Sounds like the phone did not root properly. I had that problem before where i had superuser but no root access to anything. My solution was starting over from scratch, im not sure how to do it w/o starting over. If you have everything on the computer already then starting over should only take 15 mins or so. For me thats how long it took after i had all downloads and installs in place

Thanks for the info. I did end up starting from scratch and the superuser thing was definitely a root problem. However, I still have one problem preventing me from the upgrade which is that every time I try to copy any file to the /data folder i get the java.io.filenotfoundexception:/data/local.prop (permission denied) that I mentioned above... I cannot figure out what permissions I need to change or how

[SOLVED] Help please.

Hey everyone, I hope you guys are having a great day/night
I'm fairly new to android but please help
So I was updating cyanogenmod in my HTC One, and when it rebooted back it got stuck on recovery. I'm currently stuck on TWRP and been trying to look for solutions online. I tried the RUU but i can't find any for my HTC One, I'm in Canada and I have Rogers as my carrier.
I've also tried to sideload ROMs through ADB but I kept getting errors, such as failed to write data protocol, and when I push a file over to my HTC One and try to installing it through /sdcard it gives me the error of unable to mount data.
It's been a week without my HTC One And I miss it.

Try renaming the rom file to update.zip , then use adb to push the file to your phone. Also, are you rebooting your phone into twrp, and then trying to push your files? You need to be in your boot menu..
If your still stuck, let me know. I may have time to use team viewer and show you. That is, in between periods, Hockey game is about to start lol

Hey, I renamed it and still gives me the error of E:Unable to mount '/data' & E:Unable to mount internal storage. Though these errors always showed up every time i tried to flash a ROM. And what do you mean by rebooting your phone into TWRP and then trying to push the files?
LEAFS <3 LOL
Are you pushing the files while your on twrp? Or just on the boot menu (volume up + power). From what I remember you can only push the files when your on your bootmenu.
Also, type adb devices in order to confirm if your device is actually being recognised by your computer.

Try shutting your phone off, and once its completely shut off, press the power and volume down button. Once the boot menu comes up (it will say recovery, fastboot etc) try it again.

When I try to flash a ROM throught TWRP, TWRP would fail and give an error saying "E: Unable to mount /data" & "E: Unable to mount internal storage"
I've also tried sideload but during the sideloading it would stop and give an rror of "failed to write data protocol fault"

you want to check partitions? it's a bit low level, so no rushing stuff, OK!!
reboot to recovery (it is stable right, no random reboots), then make sure adb devices sees your phone, then:
adb shell
~ # cat /proc/emmc
~ # mount
stay in the shell, and copy/paste (no screenshot, just copy/paste the command prompt) output and we'll continue.

[Q] Where to copy superSU zipfile

Hi all,
I am trying to root an HTC One; I'm following the instruction at htconeroot.com.
For some reason, I am getting stuck at the stage at which I am supposed to install CWM SuperSU.
I have the Android app QuickSSHD installed on my phone.
Using scp on my Linux laptop (Linux Mint 16), I transfer the SuperSU zip file to the phone, copying it to /sdcard/.
If I browse the phone using ES FIle Manager app, I can verify the zip file is there, along with the various other subdirectories under /sdcard/
However, when I reboot and go to the bootloader, click on Install, and then go to /sdcard/, I see nothing. No zipfile, no subdirs. I am wondering whether /sdcard/ is in fact mounted; it would seem not.
I have tried copying the SuperSU zipfile to the root directory of the phone, but that isn't possible; I don't seem to have write permissions.
From the instructions:
Sign in through the setup process then copy the CWM-SuperSU-v1.30.zip file in HTCOneRoot folder to anywhere on your HTC One’s internal storage.

However, it isn't clear to me precisely how I am supposed to do this -- or where it should go.
Am I missing something here?

Are you S-Off and unlocked? If that's the case, I believe there's a flashable zip (and instructional videos) in the TWRP thread. If you're not S-Off and unlocked yet, you'll want to look here:
http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
You'll use the "temp root" method, but I believe you'll still have to be on 4.3 for it to work.

Thanks, I am just getting up to speed here with the terminology. I've unlocked the booloader, but the phone is still S-ON.I'll try to get that sorted out now.
OK, I have used revone to set S-OFF
I have also installed, or at least run temproot.Yes, I see the # prompt.
But when I reboot and go into TWRP, it still can't see anything in /sdcard
It also says that the device does not appear to rooted.
Any thoughts on how best to move forward here?
I would like to be able to:
Install Kitkat
Deinstall some HTC cruft
Thanks

mount error while trying to install Xposed Framework

Hi, I'm trying to install Xposed on my Acer A1-810 tablet but I'm getting mount error while doing it. It says that it can't mount /system as red-write and therefore can't create app_process.orig file.
The problem is that my device is rooted and even mounting /system as rw by hand doesn't fix this error.
I remember having the same problem when I tried to install xposed on my xperia phone couple months ago so it seems like it's not a rare issue but I can't find anything on it.
Thanks in advance.
If you use custom Recovery, try another installation method (flashing zip via Recovery)
Yeah, I know about different methods of installation but unfortunately there is no way to unlock bootloader on my tablet so It's classic way or nothing.

What SU are you using? I had the same problem on my rooted Z3. As a workaround, I went into SuperSU settings, and disabled "Mount namespace separation". Then, after a reboot, I used Root Explorer to mount /system as r/w, then went back into Xposed installer to install the framework.
It looks like for some reason the Xposed installer can't mount the system partition r/w, but Root Explorer can in my case.
A1-81x does not have a mountable/writable system. The only way to root system is by dumping it to an img file, adding su, etc., to it and then restoring it again. This can be done through the MTK Logger. I have created similar instructions for Acer S1 that has a similar issue:
forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/root-acer-liquid-s1-s510-a10-kk-rom-t3004333
The Iconia toolkit is supposed to do this for you, but some devices and KK versions do not work anymore because it uses the Network Utility. Here's the toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240029
With regards to Xposed, I tried adding it to my phone by simply copying the app_process before transfering the img back to my phone:
Code:
sudo cp de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v33_36570c.apk /media/iconia/app/
sudo cp -a /media/iconia/bin/app_process /media/iconia/bin/app_process.orig
sudo cp de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v33_36570c/assets/arm/app_process_xposed_sdk16 /media/iconia/bin/app_process
sudo chmod 0755 /media/iconia/bin/app_process
That didn't work though! So... if anyone from these Xposed threads why just using the new app_process does not work, I'd appreciate the help.
(btw - I did already have the Xposed app installed and confirmed that the app_process is new and the apk is in the system folder)
Regards,
Nika.
