I'm trying to root my T-Mobile L90 as per this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732311
But T-Mobile has locked out Recovery Mode so that button combinations and "adb reboot recovery" do not work.
Does anybody know of a way that I can remove this restriction or force recovery mode?

I think the newer LG phones like this use:
adb recovery
not
adb reboot recovery like every other device out there...

I tried this, no dice. ADB simply spat out a list of accepted commands and arguments.
My bad, I got it mixed up. It's:
adb shell
reboot recovery
I don't have the phone and just remembered something about it from the other day. Found this for you:
http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-root-lg-l90.html
I have used abd shell to try and run both "reboot recovery" and "reboot bootloader" commands, to no avail.
That link is an identical rooting guide to the one I linked, it doesn't have any information about dealing with T-Mobile devices locked out of recovery mode =(
Hmm. Thought that was the whole point of having to use those commands because 99% of other phones get to recovery just from:
adb reboot recovery
only.
I found another thread that explained it's an issue with just some Tmo and Metro versions. Weird. They aren't like that on their premium phones but more...mid grade ones they are? Doesn't make much sense.
So is it not possible to root the t-Mobile L90??

Easily. Either via CF-Root or via custom recovery + SuperSU zip or custom rom.
There is a root for LG L90 D415!!!
I have been looking for a root for a few days and have finally found one!!!
STEPS:
1. Go to Towelroot.com and click the icon.
2.After Installing APK Reboot Device.
3.After Reboot download the SuperSU Apk.

For Downloads:
Towelroot: Google Towelroot.com
For SuperSu: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770938&page=7 <-------------- Scroll Down to last post

You would have to downgrade your firmware version to 10c first to root using TowelRoot (the easiest method). Then you can use the LG Flash Tool and the 10c kdz to do so. After the flash completes, TowelRoot will work. Then put the twrp on your sd card (preferably the phone sd) and follow the steps in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770938&page=156 post #1560
Took me some time, but now my phone is rooted. OH, and don't forget to disable OTA updates:
You can do this by dialing the following code: 3845#*415#
Having entered the system menu, scroll to WLAN Test.
Select OTA Setting option and turn it off by tapping the Disable button.

Because TowelRoot alters the system to enable root. Any program which modifies system files that is not specifically anti-virus software is usually seen as a virus.

Because it's a hack. Very common with apps like that and over aggressive AV programs. Long as you got it from the official site, the warnings mean nothing and are just an annoyance.

So I made a tutorial to show you how to root your Nexus 4.
Original Therad (thanks to nhsha7):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233852
What is needed:
(Android SDK recommend but not necessary, only for connection problems)
1. Google USB drivers
2. Developer Option enabled
(open in the Settings About Phone and press 7 times on the build number)
How to root:
1. Download Motochopper from here:
Download from here
2. Enable USB-Debugging in the Developer Settings
3. Unzip the file
4. Connect your Nexus with your Computer.
5. execute the bat (if you are on Linux or OSX, execute the sh file)
6. Wait it'll reboot automatic
7. Enjoy
I tested it with my Nexus 4 (Android 4.2.2) and it works
So, now you can unlock easy your Bootloader with the BootUnlocker App without wiping
Press Thanks if i helped you
The same thing can be achieved if you don't reboot after you unlock the bootloader just flash a custom recovery flash SU zip and wipe cache then reboot=no data lost. No need for a toolkit
Sent from my Nexus 4
But this is a easy method to root the phone without unlocking, fastboot flash or recovery. A only Root method
So you can unlock with bootunlocker app without wipe

What I said won't wipe anything either.

By "unlock USB debugging in developer settings you mean tick or untick this option?
Also, if I want to unroot, may I do it with mskip's nexus 4 toolkit?
Good post. I actually did this myself a few days ago to root/unlock. Motochopper was easy, just had to hit enter when prompted. Though I did need to update my adb tool since it was outdated, probably from older motochopper package.
Motochopper and BookUnlocker app made it very easy for me and I didn't have to wipe my phone to do it.
Yes i used this way Tod install CM and let my intern SD card still alive

So I just updated my previously rooted LG G2 to Kit Kat with the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant and all seems to be working great
I'm kind of confused about how rooting it again works.
Phone phone shows that it is still rooted in some places:
- About phone -> status -> rooting status = Rooted
- Holding down the power and volume down key for factory reset on device boot shows ROOTED up in the top left.
But the app is used last time to verify my root, Root Verifier, says NOT ROOTED after checking.
It's not rooted obviously since applications such as SuperSU are telling me they need root to run again.
Is it possible to re-root my phone on VS98024A?
Or will the root not work since the version is newer and not in that links list of compatible firmware?

How did you do the update?
Did you have a custom recovery and then install stock recovery to do the OTA?
Ioroot 25 work, i ve rooted my lg. I updated my lg to kk using verizon software updater. I just follow the instruction and the phone began to reebot into stock recovery. Follow the instruction then you rooted.
VS980 Verizon
Install LG G2 drivers, Download ioroot25, plug in USB and select Internet Connection >> Ethernet and then enable debugging for the ADB to see your phone. You can test this by running command prompt inside the ioroot25 folder (shift right click and open Command Prompt) and then typing 'adb devices' w/o quotes, if it lists your device then you are good to be rooted

Having same issue. I'm using ioroot25.
Use towelroot to root 24A and then use autorec to install custom recovery.
BE VERY CAREFUL with autorec, as you install recovery based on your phone's model number.
Absolutely no computer is necessary to root 24A OTA. No data lost either.

This is a tutorial on how to root and unlock the bootloader of the nexus 4 without wiping any data!
Note: I'm not responsible for any damage on your phone! You choose to do these modifications and you are responsible for any problems!
I tested this on Android 4.4.3, but you may try it on other android versions, too. Please report if it works
Devices you can root using this app:
- Nexus 4: 4.4.3, 4.4.4
- Nexus 5, 4.4.3
1. Install the towelroot app (xda thread) from the project site! Please thank geohot, he made this possible!
2. Open the app and click on "make it ra1n"
3. Wait 15 seconds and the phone will reboot!
Congratulations! Your phone is rooted now!
4. Install either SuperSu or Superuser
a) In the app update your binary the "normal way" (without a custom recovery)
b)
1. Install BootUnlocker for nexus devices to unlock your bootloader! In the app, click "unlock" to unlock it!
2. Now you are able to install a custom recovery like TWRP or cwm
3. Boot up your system again, open SuperSu or Superuser and update the binary (using "TWRP/CWM")
This is it! You're rooted now and you can easily unlock/relock your bootloader using the BootUnlocker app without wiping any data
Note: This was not my work! I just wrote down some steps to root and unlock
How to unroot:
1. Reflash the stock recovery image/stock kernel/etc (only necessary if you are running a custom kernel/recovery/etc)
2. Open BootUnlocker and lock the bootloader. Now you are able to uninstall the app!
3. Open SuperSu -> Settings -> Full unroot. This will unroot your phone and the app will automatically be uninstalled.
4. Reboot and done
noob clarifications
Hey, came across your post in another post where you mentioned this method would prevent the posibility of the phone being wiped when unlocked + rooted via "traditional" methods using a PC w SDK etc. Phone at present is locked, unrooted stock Nexus 4 kitkat 4.4.4 stock.
Just wanted to clarify a few points since this is the first time I've come across a method where the phone is rooted and unlocked from within itself (I've rooted and unlocked a HTC desire back in my heydays).
--- Do I need to unlock the phone if I just want to change the kernel from stock to the Matr1x kernel? (I had taken unlocking as a given as it was the first step in every guide - there is no mention of steps on how to actually install the kernel but I was going to research that process once root and unlock was done successfully)
--- Any chance you can give steps on updating the binary the 'normal' way? (never done this before)
--- How do you install CWM using your method? Again, I have only seen it being installed via command lines from the PC
Apologies in advance for the dumb questions but searched and couldn't find any clear answers for those steps that I'm not understanding

1. To flash a kernel you have to unlock your bootloader, that's right. You just flash it using your PC and fastboot, there are many guides on how to do that
2. If your phone is rooted and you have SuperSU installed there'll be a popup and it'll tell you to update the binary before using the app. You are able to select the "normal" way then without a recovery
3. You can install CWM/TWRP using your PC in fastboot mode!
No problem, just ask :good:
Can the usual commandline methods for other things be used after this?

If you mean fastboot commands for example to flash another kernel/recovery/etc, yes! There's no difference between unlocking using this method or another "old" one, but this one doesn't wipe data

I think I'll give it a try then (assuming there's no risk of bricking my phone or doing irreversible damage). On that subject, is there an easy way to lock the bootloader and unroot?

Please note once you update you will loose root and you can root again by reinstalling Towelroot if you already have it installed. Make sure you have the latest version of Towelroot in order for it to work.
Instructions:
1-download the above link and place it on the root of your phone storage it will not work if it's not on the root storage.
2- power off your phone and boot into recovery (volume down and power)
3- once in stock recovery select "apply update from sd card" the OTA file you downloaded should be there select it and install it
4- it will take a while to complete and once it's done feel free to reboot your device.
If by any chance you get boot loops then reboot into recovery and wipe cache and then reboot.
That should be all if I missed anything let me know enjoy!!

Upgraded this AM...Can confirm also that upgrading with this OTA you will lose root. Use IOroot25 to get it back for the Spr version.

As always INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
Keep in mind while this is the official OTA update things can still go wrong that being said remember your g flex must be running stock android 4.4.2 and you must have stock recovery.
Download: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5nbznglPEvILTFlWmF5a0J4X3M/edit?usp=docslist_api
Please note once you update you will loose root and you can root again by reinstalling Towelroot if you already have it installed. Make sure you have the latest version of Towelroot in order for it to work.

I updated phone by firstly flashing fully stock lg995v3 firmware using LG flashtool. After which I was updated twice and im now on lg995zv7. android version 4.4.2 and im rooted as well

Noob question. I am on the 4.4.2 LS995ZV6 version of a GSM unlocked Sprint Flex. My device has just downloaded an update without my consent which. I believe is this. I am rooted by the way. Can I take this the update downloaded on my phone? Will I lose the unlocking status? Will taking the update on a rooted phone create any problems? Please let me know.
I don't think you will be able to properly take the update of your rooted. Also if it does you will lose root and you have to reroot (easy peasy)
If locked. Just look for the guide to sim unlock and delete few stock and (root first) then you will be fine

Many ways to root the i9305. 2 ways i recommend are to use chainfire's method (bit complex) or framaroot (easiest)
To do all this, first have the USB debugging enabled. To do so,go to settings and navigate to "About Device". Keep pressing the build number 6 or 7 times till its says developer settings have been enabled. Go back and you will see "Developer Options"
Open the developer options and check the USB debugging option.
For framaroot Download framaroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276
Allow the framaroot downloaded app to be installed when there is a prompt to whether or not to install apps from unknown sources. Open the app and select Aragorn. Reboot and you shall have the device rooted. Update the supersu from the google play store, then open the Supersu app and update the binary. It will ask if you want to disable knox, select yes. Then reboot and its fully rooted.
For chaifire, download this http://download.chainfire.eu/232/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m3-m3zh-gti9305.zip and extract to a folder. Turn phone off. Press the volume down, home screen button together. Then while pressing those 2, press the lock key and it will ask to whether reboot or go into download mode.Take note rooting voids warranty. Press volume down to continue to download mode. Now open the extracted folder and open odin. Select PDA and select the CF AutoRoot MD5 file. Connect phone via usb and lick start. It will do everything and reboot. Update the supersu from the google play store, then open the Supersu app and update the binary. It will ask if you want to disable knox, select yes. Then reboot and its fully rooted.
Always consider donating to the developer of framaroot and supersu (chainfire)

Are you sure it will work with stock kitkat 4.4.4? At the Homepage from chainfire it says, that CF-Auto-Root-m3-m3zh-gti9305 is for 4.1.1. Also it says: "If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device". Do I have to unlock my bootloader first (or is it standard unlocked?) or simply ignore that? Sorry, if these questions are dumb, but I searched a lot and could'nt find answers.
The phone should have the bootloader unlocked already.
Follow my instructions. Don't worry if it has 4.1.1
It works and roots successfully.

Wow thanks for your quick answer! How can I check, if bootloader is locked or not and if locked how can I unlock it?
Like I said, don't worry about the bootloader. The i9305 device has an unlocked bootloader. If you prefer, Google some ways to check for bootloader status.

Great, and you are running 4.4.4 (as written in your personal data below your post)? No Problems because of knox?

Everything is ok,
# SuperSu adverted me knox was found and disabled it in 2 sec ...
No freeze, no reboot ... Flag Knox >1
You can run first Unified Android Toolkit without device plug, see software functions and download data for your own device .
When you're ready, just plug your device and follows the steps...
