I tried installing the htc_ime.apk on the streak and it doesn't work. I tried using astro. Does the tablet have to be rooted first? Does anyone know how to install it?
Ok, It is installed and enabled but when I touch a text field, it force closes the keyboard and I need to choose a different keyboard.

make sure the keyboard is from a device with the same resolution screen or you will get that force close
Ok. Thank you. Guess I'll have to wait until an htc tablet is released.

Well I know my dinc is 800x480. Which is the same as the s7 so no problems therethere

yeah, I will try to grab the apk from my hd2 and try that tomorrow. Havent really messed with anything on the streak yet. Really looking forward to the progress on honeycomb etc. let you know how the keyboard works tomorrow
Are you installing Jonsi's using Gimpstas generator? That's the one that worked on my G1, N1, and Vibrant. I haven't tried on the Streak only because I switched to Smart Keyboard Pro on the market. It's cheap, has all the gestures, pop-up time customizations, and it's actively developed. It also works on the Streak.
Gimpsta's app thread is here http://goo.gl/lmZB
No I'm not. I tried the smart keyboard trial and it was ok.

They're a different resolution, so I don't know that they'd be that helpful. Then again, I don't have the apk so I'm not very helpful, but I'm still here.
I want to get the HTC keyboard on my NS as I am used to it on my Desire HD, I have tried the same file and method as you do with the Nexus One but I always get a force close error when I try to select the new input method.
Am I doing something wrong or do i need a different file to install

i prefer stock keyboard over HTC_IME.. it doesnt have multi touch :\
either that or. http://www.appbrain.com/app/smart-keyboard-pro/net.cdeguet.smartkeyboardpro

Smart keyboard has a HTC_IME skin that looks like HTC but includes multitouch capabilities. Try it out.
That worked great thanxks
Do you have to buy smart keyboard? Is the free one only a trial?

Copied from the app description:
This is the trial version of "Smart Keyboard PRO" (it has the same features but with a nag screen)
Don't forget to READ the FAQ on the web site for usage instructions
I am using the HTC keyboard on my Nexus S and it works great but every now and again the text text that appears above the keys that shows you what you are typing does not come up so I have to kill the keyboard.
Anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks

Possibly go find a version for it thats compatible for 2.3.X.
The link I sent you before is 2.2.X but it does work. Most people have moved onto better keyboards because HTC IME is missing the multitouch keyboard feature.
@Borky: Your post doesn't help. The OP already has the keyboard and your keyboard thread hasn't been updated since October. So I doubt its the newer version.
HTC Sense is also not running 2.3.X (yet!) so unless you can port the keyboard from the sense 2.3 leak.... no luck

Like I said, use Smart Keyboard Pro and the HTC skin over it. It's practically the same thing but more accurate and supports multi-touch!
May I also ask where I can find the HTC handwriting input for Nexus S as well?
can anyone post any working htc-ime keyboard because everything i have found force closes for me..using ics
anyone guys?
Ok on my jailbroken Iphone i had installus to get apps. Is there a app like installus yet for windows 7?
Thanks

nope, there's a few free sideloaded apps floating around but no marketplace. XDA is working on one comparable to cydia, but with nodo, there isn't an unlocker that works with the update.
I'm looking to spend my $25 credit and I'm thinking keyboard.
Opinions on keyboards for the nexus 7?
You'll get so many different answers, try the free versions.
Swiftkey 3 for me though since you ask.
It told me earlier it'd saved me 10,000 keystrokes on my mobile and over 5,000 on nexus already.
Try thumb keyboard. Its great in landscape mode, and you can customize the keyboard as well!

I also suggest SwiftKey 3. One of the advantages for me is that it offers word suggestions and auto-correct in up to 3 languages at the same time. It also has the option for arrow keys at the bottom in the phone version.

I'll cosign Swiftkey. In landscape mode it's almost perfect, and works well enough that I feel natural using it. I still finding it surprising that I lke it so much considering my phone has a physical keyboard and I formerly used Swype as the alternative.
Swift for tablet or phone for the nexas 7?

i use the phone version since Swiftkey refuses to provide an option for displaying arrow keys (on the main keyboard) on the tablet version
Thumb keyboard is one of my favorites for both phones and tablets

I use Hackers Keyboard and love it, and its free
I use perfect keyboard. I love its split keyboard for for when I'm typing in landscape.
I second hackers keyboard for if you want something with the same layout as a real keyboard.

I've used Ultra Keyboard for over a year on my Nook Color and now on the Nexus. It has arrow keys, which I find invaluable.

Not that it helps with your credit, but I recommend Swype. I'm a little biased since I used to work for them, but I think it is the best keyboard input for touch bar none. You can get on the beta by visiting beta.Swype.com... this message was composed using Swype.

Swype beta is free and oh so buttery
Torn between swype and swift key on the nexus 7 myself. I use swype on my galaxy tab 10.1 and love it there but it can't touch the predictive accuracy of swift key. On my HTC One X I use swift key which I'd like to use on my nexus 7 but its buggy in Chrome for some reason. For now I'm sticking to the stock keyboard until I find something else or swift key update resolves the bugs.

I've been using SwiftKey tablet and like it.

Smartkeyboard for both phone and tablet. Great stuff!
I'm a devoted Swype user. Sometimes it acts strangely on webpages though. If that happens I switch to stock until in off that page
CDMA RAZR - .211 - KOA AOKP
I use Thumb Keyboard, I got it when it was the amazon free app of the day, and I really enjoy it. Although it seems to have some issues with Chrome that I'm having trouble figuring out.
Google just pushed out an OTA update that brings Jellybean 4.2 search /Google Now functionality, like opening apps (see 2nd screenshot), deeper/richer searches, etc.

Some of New Google now features require "gmail cards enabled" and i'm not sure but 4.1.2 doesn't have that option or have I not looked in the right place....

Go to the play store and update, then check your Google now settings, the Gmail options should be there..at least it was for me.

Is the new Google Now just an app update available from Play Store, or is it an actual device update via OTA? I'm on Ubuntu atm
It's an app update.
I can't get the package delivery card to populate. I have it enabled in Google Now and have even forwarded the shipment email with tracking to my email address but it doesn't show up.
Anyone have any luck?
It showed up for me, it's got links to the email AND to directly track the package. All I did was enable it in settings. I don't know why is not working for you.
