WiFi direct isn't working on any of our custom Roms, as far as I know. However, a good substitute is Software Data Cable https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.damiapp.softdatacable, it works like WiFi direct. You'll need to install this on both devices, this app can also transfer files between your Android and PC.

i meant, how do you use it, is it by qr code or ip address?
FTP. It works similar to WiFi direct and Bluetooth. 1 device starts a share network using its own WiFi hotspot, the other picks up the hotspot and joins the network. Then you get a browser to share files at good speed.
This does not use your data. If you're worried about it, you can turn off your mobile network and try it.

have you tried NFC and turning on android beam?????? this should fix your issue
Android beam is sending thru bluetooth, not WiFi Direct
Not working
I have tried almost every possible way to use Wi-Fi direct on my Xperia TX but in vain.
The hardware is indeed included in the phone but I wonder if there is software back up for the same.
Generally whenever you click on wifi Direct option, there are functions to rename your wi-fi direct device name and few others. All of them are missing with Xperia.
I have tried using the feature in sync with Samsung Galaxy S II, LG L9 and Bravia Tablet. All I can see is that connection is established between the two units but send / receive doesn't work.
It feels irritating to see that a flagship product of a company like Sony has these glitches. In addition, there is no available support on this issue on Sony website neither anywhere on web.
I wish that some senior here helps us resolve this topic.
Thanks & regards,

ICS or JB?
In my ICS version, i can't see any options when I check 'Wifi direct'.
I read sony forum, sony's system UI doesnt provide sending/receiving file via wifi-direct.
U have to use apps which can send via wifi direct.
What are these apps?

I've succesfully sent music over the computer and Phone with wifi, not using any apps whatsoever.
You can do it with OfficeSuite WiFi Direct. Install OfficeSuite on both phones, then use the Share menu to send files over WiFi Direct with OfficeSuite.

I've officesuite that came with the phone pre-installed. But when I try to share via Wi-Fi Direct, I don't see any share option to do so. But the connection between the device is successful.
I don't quite understand, why does this require an app? Isn't this a native Android feature?

Yes. It works (shows in the share) after I opened the OfficeSuite once.
But why is this feature requires an app? Isn't this an standard Android feature? No common built-in share application?

Bro, I know we can transfer via few other ways. Wi-Fi direct has one of the fastest transfer rates and more over trouble-free if it can work.
I'm talking about couple of gigs video files to transfer from one device to another on the go! Any suggestions without third-party software?

With this you can simply scan the bar code and transfer huge data (I tried photos) - let me know !!

Hey guys I just want to know if there's an app to send and receive files between phone and pc through Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi direct. I don't have a modem, so Wi-Fi direct would be a nice way to transfer files.. Thanks in advance.

Try using an app like samba file sharing and then ftp into the phone. Speeds won't be as good as a USB cable though

In sorry if this should be in the apps and themes forum, but on Resurrection Remix latest, Spotify will not download songs over wifi. The strange part is that it will download over cellular, but not wifi. Is this an application issue? Or is there another problem that could be at hand? Thank you.

Are you sure your internet connection works with Spotify? Have you tried to download songs using a VPN?
I have done it countless times on my stock rom, so I'm assuming it works with my Internet connection. Is there a free vpn I could try that you'd recommend? This is the first time I've tried on RR

There's several of free ones available but Betternet is probably the best one.
Also are you using the latest version of RR?

So it seems to be that it wouldn't download over the 5G AC network, so I had to go back to 2.4ghz. Thank you

Ah well glad you figured out the problem.
Are you listening to Spotify Music on your Phone? If it doesn't download for offline on WiFi, there is a way for you to overcome this problem. For Premium member, you can use your computer to downloaded it and put this music on your Phone. However, if you just a free user, you can use a tool like TuneFab Spotify Music Converter for converting Spotify Music and transfer them to your Phone.
