This is the first time I have ever been near or used an Android phone. I got my i9000 a few days ago and have started messing about with widgets etc. I have been reading this forum for a few months prior to owning an Android phone as technology interests me. I was following a home screen thread and realized I had to root my Galaxy S to be able to take screenshots. Then I found the One Click Lag Fix app that was on the Android market. The lag was something that was really bothering me and now its running really smooth.
So now I have root what else should I do to my phone?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
A couple apps I use that need root access: mybackup pro and root explorer.
Have fun
I'll be sure to check them out. Anyone else?

Flash roms, overclock cpu, clear app caches. Modify system apps (eg make browser fullscreen).
Anything really.
Clocksync - if cell-network time sync sucks.
MarketAccess - if you can't purchase apps on market
Autokiller or Minfree manager - to keep memory tidy (less necessary on the most recent firmwares)
Screenshot - should be obvious.

Im sticking to stock for now, see no reason to switch. I mostly mix/mash stuff from other roms if i like. But yea i just got my vibrant few days back so i don't know wht roms are available/good. There was this thread however, look for "best firmware" i believe it was called.

Hi guys,
this is my first post in Nexus S section. Wildfire is my previous device.
This is an ADblock file that will block almost all annoying advertisement (except those app made by Chinese from China [it do block, but not all]) in your app and browser as well.
Advantages
Free at all, does not use system service, update is not required.
Attachments
HOST.zip: Updated on June 2011
HOST1.zip: Updated on June 2010 (try this one if the first one doesn't block some of your app ads.)
Instruction:
1. Unzip the file and you will get a file named HOSTS.
2. Copy and paste the HOSTS via root explorer to system/etc.
3. Reboot system, and open an app with advertisement and you will see the advertisement is blocked.
Thanks for viewing.
Please hit a "Thanks" if you like it!
Would this work on sgs miui as well?

This script blocked ads from 21k site. It is like windows, they built in the feature but lack of ad block file.
I checked root tools from market, it doesn't block much of the site. It is paid app..
Adfree use service, this doesnt. If you use task killer, it wont kill.

No one here uses adblock we all use "adfree" which is free and does EVERYTHING.
Personally, I have recently decided to keep the ads. They are the sole reason we have some quality games especially free ones. Its not like we are in abundance with android app developers, if simply having a small ad will keep them going, please support them.

use a browser to use facebook. i personally don't like the app because it seems a bit heavy for our device. like the peron above me said, jb+x8=not a lot of available ram.

I can recommend you friendcaster. It is much more lighter, faster and still can sync your contacts. Facebook is to heavy - I'm not using it even on 2.3

system memory, yes. but won't it consume the same amount of ram?

I always strip roms of the unneeded stuff so I have plenty of space.
Eg: My phone only has one ringtone / alert tone.
I remove the default launcher, themes and useless apps.
When I put in facebook I stil have loads of space for other apps in system.
I put all apps that require root access in /system/app (root explorer, titanium backup, setcpu,
Also put some big games that lag if installed to sdcard.
Worth playing about with to get a perfectly running system.
Another example - I can play Jetpack Joyride with music on and it never lags or stutters. Some of my friends can't play the game at all.
Try it yourself - Just remove what you want to from the rom zip and replace at will.
Just don't exceed the size of he original rom zip.
Update fb app to latest, move to system partition & create odex file.
Then wipe dalvik & you should be fine

Had the same problem as you, especially facebook consumes alot of ram doing nothing.
Because facebook is a system app you cant greenify it.
To change facebook to a normal app I used system app mover:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover&hl=nl
Havent seen any problem doing this, facebook updates normal and is working fine.
After changing facebook to a normal app you can greenify it .
Hopefully this helps you killing that awfull facebook app

Actually if you get the Donate version of greenify, it allows you to greenify system apps too, as well as display notifications for the greenified app even if it is hibernated! It is well worth the money!

Hello.
I know that kitkat implemented something about only letting the certain app to gain access to the folder it's using or something like that. So applications like vaulty doesn't work anymore. Dunno why they even made it like that. It worked perfect on JB. Why change something wich is working.
But, are there any apps or ways of hiding pics/video and whatever nowadays on Kitkat firmware?

Hide It Pro have just a big issue to me, it move the pictures to his folder and is mess up with my stuff, I will prefer the pictures remain where they are.
AppsLock is very good but it missing the option to select single files, it just work for Apps, still good BTW.
