Sup everyone,
I have a rooted MB502, Motorola Charm.
Starting around a few days ago, my phone will not install ANY apk files. I tried using File Explorer and clicked on the apk files (it is stored on my sd) and it did not even respond. Furthermore, I used File Manager and I tried to open the apk files and it said "file is not supported". This problem has never happened to me before!
Also, I backed up one of my programs and I tried to re-run the apk files and it does not even work! This means that my apk files are not corrupted.
Yes, I already restarted my phone, with the sd card removed, battery removed, and SIM card removed.
I also made sure that install from unknown sources box is ticked in the settings.
In addition to all of these problems, I cannot install apps from the market! Each time I tried to install something, the download just abruptly ends and I just go back to the first page on the market.
Update:
The SD card works perfectly. My friend's phone easily open and install the APK files from my SD card. So, the problem lies within my phone. I do not want to factory reset it (last resort). Anyone have any ideas?
Update1:
I reset my phone to factory settings and the same problem still persists!
Update2:
I unroot my phone and the problem persists.
Anyone have any idea of what is going on?

I think there isn't a charm forum. But still, post in general Q&A?

I think you accidentally uninstalled the package installer app. Try googling for some stock rom to flash. Also, try getting package installer apk from other phones first and put in in system/apps with permissions

Sorry for the generic title buts its difficult to write exactly what i need to achieve.
I have a sim free UK HTC one.
I need to get rSAP working with the phone for my Audi car kit to work. I also have an added issue that my phonebook contacts don't sync at all.. (apart from that its a great bluetooth connection...lol)..
I've located the rSAP program but apparently when its downloaded from the play site. it doesn't work correctly. In order to get it working correctly, you have to manually load the files into the recovery section of a rooted HTC one. im using this program www.android-rsap.com
I've got a fully rroted HTC one. and I have downloaded the files from the above site. I've just no idea how to get the files onto the phone.. any pointers would be very useful. thanks...

Alternate Installation
You may optionally use these zip files in recovery for installation/deinstallation of the rSAP system files instead of the rSAP installer app:
when you have a write protected system partition (see above) and you don't want to install the kernel module or a different kernel
when you don't need other root functionality you may omit the installation of the Superuser app

Thanks for the quick reply...
Yes, i have the files you pointed to.. but (sorry this may be one of those noob moments) I don't know how to get those files onto the phone or even if they need to go onto the phone..
So if possible, i'm looking for instructions from this point onwards.. I have all the files, I'm rooted.. what do I do now?
Thanks again.
By posting your question in Q&A rather than development.
Can I test your rom please

Hi thanks for the replies. Actually i have now found out how to do it and yes, i do feel a fool.. It was so easy.
For anyone else having the same issue..
simply download the files you need to load to your phone, Store them where you can find them.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode (your phone must be unlocked and rooted for this)
Simply pick install files and direct to the stored location of the files you downloaded.
Reboot the phone.

normally,no. I'm a founder and current director of a multi million pound international electronics company..but I don't get time to study geek stuff. in fact, I normally employ people to carry out the geek stuff for me.
so thanks for your insightful input.
I'm running vg's latest rom (android 4.2.2) and I have a weird situation. Sideloading most APKs and his screen sensitivity APK works perfectly as does installing apps from the playstore. However, when I try to sideload an APK which have been "password protected" returns an error of "APP Not Installed". I have unknown sources and USB debugging checked and other APKs work properly. No previous versions of the APK were installed when I tried this. This same APK works and can be installed on my other devices which have older android versions.
Using Nook HD+ EMMC 7/11 ROM version
I looked through the options and enabled developer options and nothing seems to make this work. I also read through leapinlar's guide and tips threads to see if there is something that can be flashed but didn't seem to find anything either.
You don't say whether you are on emmc or SD with that ROM. Did you install my swap zip? If you did, you may need to copy the zip somewhere else before attempting to install.

Oops, I am on Nook HD+ EMMC install with the ROM. I did not install your swap zip as internal=sdcard and sdcard=ext_sdcard is working for me. All other APKs works fine like his screen sensitivity app v4 but not this one. I am using the stock CM file manager. I found out the APK has the weird password protection when I opened it in 7zip to see if it was perhaps due to a corrupted download. The password issue was new to me so I tried it on the galaxy tab and it installed fine without any problems with the same APK.
I went ahead and did an install from terminal to get a better detail error and the error was [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_CERTIFICATE_ENCODING]
Edit: Got a hold of the latest copy which is clean and didn't have the additional obfuscation. Installs fine and no error. Sorry for making the thread!
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT8
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-1190851 [email protected]#1 Mon Sep 3 16:00:05 KST 2012
Build number GINGERBREAD.BGKT4.
I want to root it so I can unlock it and delete some useless pre-installed apps.
I've tried to root it following quite a few tutorials here on XDA (including various zip updates) but all I got was a useless superuser app without root permissions.
I think that's because the version I have is no longer compatible with those methods, but I don't know.
So I want to ask: Is there any method, no matter how hard it is, able to definitely root a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6?
And in the case it isn't possible, do you know if I take it to one of those "repairs" shops they could at least unlock it? or do they use the same methods?
Thanks!

Ok! don't worry about that I reported it to mods
Good luck and yes, report then what's happend with your phone
Well, I Installed CWM, tried Delete_thinkdroid.zip (didn't do anything. Think free office is still installed and working), upd_1.zip, acegingerroot.zip, gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip, CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip, b84-fixed.zip and still no root.
Now, my phone boots with a blue triangle in the top left corner but that's all.
upd_1.zip gave the following error:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/upd_1.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip did the same but changing the name:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/gingerbred-2.
3.6-root.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
acegingerroot.zip and CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip seemed to install correctly but with no effect.
b84-fixed.zip aborted installation almost immediately.
Do I need to get a new version of my system? Like that firmware and roms things? I'm really lost

no. that you need is to liberate memory space to push root files to /system
Blue triangle is good don't worry (cfroot kernel installed )
Cfroot b84 fix isn't flashable through CWM, normal that your device aborted the installation
Your error message is because your sdcard is corrupted, so copy all your data from your sdcard to your pc using an USB adapter.
Then format your sdcard using windows in Fat32 format (you can do it using your phone and selecting format your sdcard in settings )
Copy the files again and flash it when you have free space
I'm going to provide you a script to delete a serius app, wait a moment

Well it's here!
When you finish with your sdcard (format in Fat32) try the attached file and report then
1. Flash it "install form sdcard"
2. Then flash root.zip
It'll delete Thinkfree, it's enough.
I have prepared a script (EXTREME) that remove Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube All those apps can be downloaded from Google Paly Store

You're welcome
I advised you to reflash cfroot b84 kernel just to avoid troubles if it wasn't be installed properly
1.Flash cf-root b84 via CWM
2.Boot android and look at an app CWM, in this app select "flash kernel" and select cfroot b84 FIX (this part fix bootanimation trouble)
I'm glad you achieved it

I had no boot animation problems, but anyway, done that.
A little problem i just noticed is that after reinstalling Gmail and Youtube (after deleting them with the script) those two apps seem to not be working and send a couple of error messages after booting saying "process com.google.android.youtube" and "process com.google.android.gm" have stopped unexpectedly and giving the option to force close or report... So you know if I can fix that?
EDIT: Google Maps and Think free office work fine...

You can do it following the next steps:
You need to set the permissions correctly and delete Gmail.odex and YouTube.odex files if exist in /system/app before paste this new apps
1. Mount /system (R/W) in order to paste the apps
2. Just put the apps in /system/app and set the permissions like this (holding over each file, you'll change permissions)
x-x--
x----
x----
3. Reboot!
It should work
I'm having the same problem (root and get superuser app without root permissions. )but I don't have much of an idea on what to do. I have just swiched over from an iPhone so android is all new.
So my phone info is
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT3
Kernel version [email protected]#1
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKT7
Can someone please run me through what I need to do to root it (I know how to get the superuser but I need to know if that prepared script (EXTREME) that removes Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube will do the same for me. Also how do you use the script (ie do you "install form sdcard") as you would the root.zip? I just want to remove carrier bloatware than I will unroot again. Or would superoneclick work for me? (nevermind superoneclick as I cant get it to install on computerputer keeps "encountered a problem and needs to close".
Thanks

Why not if you have SuperUser installed? Search Titanium Backup and install it from Play Store. Remove any unnecessary system app using it. Root has nothing to do with removing the system app automatically or through Application Manager. So you will need the third party app like Titanium Backup.
P/S: Becareful with uninstalling/removing system app. Else you will render your phone unusable at all. (To unbrick it you will need more trick, search the thread in XDA to revive your phone)

Follow the steps:
1. Here you could find the scripts to remove the apps and get free space (it's compulsory for the last roms to push superuser files)

2. You have enough free space now (your apps have been deleted, check it)

You must have wrong partition permissions for your sdcard. Go to WhiteNeo CM12.1 thread then go to FAQ and find the terminal command for fixing storage permissions. Did you use CM12 before switching to stock rom? Or did you repartitioned your storage?

Go to Settings, Storage and see if there is Internal storage. Does it shows some memory?
It says internal storage total space 3.71gb and availible space 2.32 gb. At the sd card it says total space 7.40gb and availible space 5.16gb
