EFS backup for you - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, many people who lost their efs, can use this backup to get their phone working
This backup is for s3 mini GT-i8190, can also used for N and L models.
It can be flashed via heimdall as it is in .img format and efs pro or terminal emulator or adb.
YOU MUST BE ROOTED FOR THIS METHOD OF EFS RESTORE BELLOW.
Place it in external sd or also can be placed in internal sd( if accessible because in most corrupted efs cases internal memory goes 0 bytes)
For External sd:
In adb, type
Adb shell
Su
dd if=/storage/extsdcard/efs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
For internal sd:
dd if=/storage/sdcard0/efs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
Link to download efs:

Please hit thanks if it helped you.
*UPDATE*
CWM flashable efs copy it to your external sd and flash through clockworkmod recovery
here is link https://www.mediafire.com/?q19gtamtb070h88

didnt fix 0.00b for me...

You flashed it correctly?and which model you have?
Sent from my GT-I8190 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I flashed using ADB shell from external SD using the command line above. At first it didn't work as the folder / file could not be found but I noticed that the command is case sensitive and changed it accordingly. It resulted in some byes being written and I prompted a reboot afterward which seemed to have no effect. No efs on mount command as well as 0.00b ....
Model i8190 or s3 mini

Don'nt download newest version just use 1.9.x version after extracting you have to copy efs.img in efsprobackup folder which comes by default with efs pro then enable usb debugging cpnnect to pc and run efs pro it will automatically detect the backup which you placed at right side clixk restore and you're done hope so.

I formatted my internal and external sdcards today by mistake, now my download folders are gone, I was tolded this is normal since formatted deletes all data on card which is why my download folder is gone. I've tired downloading rom and modded recovery all day but I cant find them in root exploror anywheres, than I Google a random picuture and tried to save the picture but the download was uncuccessful. Can I fix this?

It sounds like this should be fixable, but could you please provide more information on your current setup (Android version, if it's a custom ROM, etc).
As far as getting ROMs and CWM to your phone, you may want to try downloading the roms/modded recovery on a PC (if one is available), then move them over to your phone. If everything was formatted and you're having trouble using root explorer, it might just be easier to do it that way.
Before today my phone was fine, it displayed downloads that I've done etc. I was trying to install a downloaded rom thru cwm but it didn't display "install from sdcard" with in cwm. I than clicked format sdcard for some dumb reason and It put me in my current state.

I see that you're on your phone now, which answers the question of whether or not you can boot, so that's good. If you've formatted your Internal SD card (which it sounds like you did - did it get rid of all your files on the phone?), you could probably just do a Titanium backup of what you still have and reinstall your ROM (assuming you're on a custom rom). That would likely correct the issue.

Assuming that it wasn't deleted in the format, I'd recommend reflashing whatever rom you're on and restoring your apps from Tibu.
the tibu backup is no more it would have been deleted when he formatted. look in your browsers settings for the default download directory. or make a folder on your sdcard called downloads and set it to there as default....

Yep, my back up is gone. I went to the download directory and all downloads in there say download unsuccessful, I than went to sdcard in root exploror and created a folder named download. I tried saving a few Google pics and they still come up download unsuccessful, I even tried downloading a file from xda and its not in my new download folder. I didn't set it as default since I don't know how to set it, I didn't see any options. Getting very frustrated.

That appeared to work, I saved a random picture and it was saved in my new download folder. But when I try and download the modded e3 signature file (which is what I've been trying to do) I see a quick download meter start and finish, after its done I can select close or open, if I click open I'm brought to rom manager with an install prompt were I can select or de-select a few things, than I'm put into recovery but it dkesnt show any place to install from sdcard. When I had to do this on my infuse once I downloaded the modded recovery it was listed in my downloads, id extract, copy and paste over original recovery but I don't see it anywhere in my captivates files.

You're pasting in the modded 3e recovery I assume, that's in a place usually mounted read only. Using root explorer, there is a little button on the top right that says mount r/w press that THEN paste in.

Did you make sure you flashed with a .pit file as well,? You must do this down grading as the file partitions are different from ics
Ok I tried to go into recovery mode, but the phone would just boot again, from the very first boot screen (where samsung is displayed at the bottom)..so should i flash again with the .pit thingy?

[Q] EFS folder gone

I have flashed my phone multiple times without any problems (as far as I know). And now I realised that the backup of the original /efs and /persist folders have been lost. So I want to back them up again, but I can't find them. They're not on the phone. I also can't find them in my original Nandroid backup I made of GB 2.3.6 (stock) prior to going to an ICS Rom.
But my IMEI number is showing up correct on the phone, so it must be somewhere, but where?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would, if I could, but the problem is, that I don't have a /efs folder on my phone. I did a search with root explorer...nada. But since my IMEI is currenly present and correct, it must be stored somewhere else, right? And that location is the one I'm trying to find.

Thanks for the tip. I tried and failed
Andromizer (sp?) didn't even show the option for backing up the /efs folder and Nitrality claims it backed it up, but its backup directory is nowhere to be seen. Yes, I did google the default location and it says it's supposed to be something like /clockworkmod. I have TWRP, could that have something to do with it?

I always have "show hidden folders" ticked. The weird thing is, I decided to have a look at DH's phone (same model, same rom) and again, no /efs folder. I wonder if it may be the rom? I'll be getting a new phone tomorrow, so once that's set up I'm going to return my current one to stock and see what happens.

Ok. if imei is showing you can back it up with adb. use these commands.
Code:
adb shell su -c "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27 of=/sdcard/efs.ext4 bs=4096"
adb shell su -c "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/sdcard/persist.ext4 bs=4096"
you will get a backup in sdcard.

Backup efs file

How do i make a backup efs file for a gtab sch-i800 (cdma)? I have the app efs pro 1.9 and 2.0, but no success. The app does not have the tab bin file. (?). Any other ways to make a backup efs file?

you should be able to copy the /efs folder manually.
For P1000, when we flash CM rom, it backs up efs to sdcard ( /backups I think).
The oldest copy usually the most reliable (if before flashing CM you have a good IMEI)

Hi priyana,
Seen alot of your posts! You give really good advice. Especially--this is the original gtab forum!
Anyway, how would i make a backup manually? I will look around in the other tab that's got the CM11 p1c rom to see if i can find it. I just hope terenceng will be able to fix the data bug in the cm build. I woyld love to activate the tab to 3g. I have 3 of these 'ole tabs around, so i don't have a problem finding the file. I just want to transfer it.

Update-- i copied the efs file. Now, how do i install it? Just copy it again or?
Yes. Just keep in safe place. Note down the permissions too.
Although honestly I never restore efs before.
Usually the best way to restore it is by restocking to GB. That was the case of p1. I think it should be the same as p1c.

What are the permissions i need to note? Is it the rx dx x? Anyway, i got the file saved to the sd card on my tab with galaxy cubed. Now i want to move the sd card to my other tab with kitkat to copy the info there. Then all i have to do is update the imeid (meid for us cdma people) to the correct number. Finally, wait for terenceng to fix the data on his build. Hopefully i will have a FULLY working custom rom.

Permission of each individual folders and files.
Not sure if you can move between tabs.
It is an "encrypted file system" and I am sure it is encrypted from the hardware info.
That is why flashing a stock ROM can regenerate the content.
But anyway, hope it works.

When i go to the efs file using root browser, the file does not show any files or folders inside. So, how would i get the permissions?
Or, what would i need to return the tab to stock? I have a stock gb rom with root, heimdall and odin ready to go. Would i need a pit file of some sort? And, what about the different memory systems rfs,ext4, and mtd? Any problems here?

Restock with pit needed to get back to bml+rfs (partition and filesystem)
When you flash cm ROM from custom recovery, it will check and convert to mtd partition and ext4 fs
So you don't worry about conversion.

When i open the efs file using root explorer, there is nothing there. ? . Any way, i've been reading up on restocking my 'ole gtab. I think i'm about to have a flashback!
I just flashed terenceng newest update. Cameras work, but video fc's evertime. App2 sd is now good. The last major fix is data. This could be some time in comming due to terenceng computer hard disk crash. So, i've got time.

Cannot capture screenshots

I have run into a problem as of late and it occurs in every ROM which I load.
I cannot capture a screenshot. I get an error message indicating I don't have enough storage space which is untrue or it isn't allowed by my tap or organization.
Anyone else encounter this?

Can you save files to your sdcard? what about /sdcard/pictures/screenshots?
Did you ever use ADB or MTP in recovery to copy /sdcard data back to your device?

Yes, I am always saving files to my sd card including OTG. I don't believe I have used ADB or MTP to copy data back to the device, as I always use TWRP or tibu for app data. I have reflashed my phone a few times to the factory image only.
Would be decrypted create this?

Shouldn't do. I am fully dercytped and can take screenshots. Please can you check specifically that you can create files using a file manager in /sdcard/pcitures/screenshots

Hmmm. I could not copy a pic to that folder. Is there a setting or build prop. I need to change?

Sounds like the permissions on that folder is screwed. Typically this happens when data is copied back to sdcard when booted into recovery...
It can usually be fixed by flashing this zip in recovery. I would recommend backing up your data first though.

What application are you trying to take the screenshot in? If I tried taking a screenshot in Google play movies it won't work and would say that. Elsewhere it works

He has a permissions issue on the stock-used screenshot folder. But yes, some apps do block it and give the same error. I forgot that
