downgrade to mj5 first, it's in the general section, hopefully you dont have the A3 bootloader.
Hey thanks, can you give me the link showing how to do that?

Okay, so I've searched and searched and haven't found an answer for this. I have a galaxy s5 I bought from att a while back, I have since unlocked it and switched to t mobile. I'm needing to root it but after I roll back the update with odin (?) then will I be able to upgrade again with the same process? Or is this cross platform fubar not going to work? I need to get my native tethering to work. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Well for starters, a little more info about the phone would be helpful. What are you currently running, firmware version etc.
Looks like 4.4.2 and it's a g900a. It's also been Sim unlocked and the IMEI had been swapped. But everything else is from the factory AT&T.

Read step 5 in the OP you'll see "towel root" that's how you root 4.4.2
Towelroot will work if the kernel is 22 Jul 2014? I though there was a cut off?

Yeah, I just tried towelroot and my phone is not supported...

If your on 4.4.2 then towel root should work. If it don't then just download the NCE downgrade file from the OP of that same thread and flash using the AP slot in odin 3.09 then use towel root again. I have used that downgrade file and total root numerous times. If your on 5.0 them don't use any of it as it will not work.

This is the towel root file that i use. There was like 3 different versions.

Sort of related, but I have an S5 on 4.4.4. I know I will need to downgrade temporally to perform the rooting process (no big deal, I had to do manual tweaking on my DROID 4 during its rooting process), but at this time my phone is unlocked (g900a). Will the process listed in muniz_ri's tutorial ruin the phone's unlocked state? I've never dealt with GSM stuff so this is all new to me.

No. The sim unlock information is in a different partition which is almost never touched by any ROMs.
I'll give it a try tonight and let you know. Thanks!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, if so please let me know and I'll kindly remove it.
I was wondering if there is currently any way to root a Galaxy S5 G900a (AT&T) on Lollipop 5.0? If anyone could clear this up for me I would be grateful. A simple 'no' or just a yes with a link will be fine.
Thanks!

I hear it can be downgtaded then rooted have any of you heard this?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using XDA Free mobile app
If you used the guides in the general section on how to root and downgrade then you're
probably using the OA1 bootloader which is downgradable as far as i know.
However if you used the OTA update, then you're at OC4 or most likely OF(if you have taken the new updates)
And there is no way to downgrade.
We're all waiting here,
and there are already existing threads about this,
Use the search function next time.
I have used it with no luck so why dony you use it and let me know when it can be rooted

Muniz_ri usually will have something on what is available for root and on what phones. Plus he's pretty nice and isn't rude just for asking a question. I'm waiting myself after losing root. I hate it.

I presume you are referring to the Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T)?
If so then yes you can flash SU and TWRP via Odin and install a compatible ROM through recovery.
That's because the bootloader is not locked. Or at least at the moment with 5.1.1

Is this in regard to the T-Mobile model?

Yes. The T-Mobile S6 variant (SM-G920T) does NOT have a locked a bootloader at present.
The S7 however does and the suspicion (though unfounded at the moment) is that once T-mobile releases the Marshmallow update for the S6 it may lock the bootloader. Thus, it is probably going to be a good idea to wait on taking the Marshmallow update as soon as it is available (if root is desirable).
So will any normal Roms available for the standard GSM s7 work with the T-Mobile model? Also, is installing twrp as simple as something like a Nexus? I haven't been in the ROM game for a while, thanks for the help guys

There won't be any ROMs available for the S7 so long as the bootloader remains locked.

For the umpteenth time yes. You just need to make sure that whatever ROM you want to flash is compatible with the T-Mobile S6 variant (SM-G920T).
There is a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Android Development forum here at XDA which will have a number of different ROMs to choose from as well as information and support for said ROMs.
Thanks man

Good suspicion. ..I thought of that right away myself thus why I returned my s7... The s6 with few tweaks is as nice in many aspects not all but suits my needs .

I wanna root and check out the s8+ rom if there is one. I like to tinker and see which roms I like the best.

You have plenty of choices there. I run a S8 port on my 920c they all run great when you look at the roms the dev will mention different models his rom will work on if you see 920c your good to go. You just need to be on a Marshmellow base to run the nougat s8 ports..
