Their new version of LTE.

Holy, that's close to triple than what I get from LTE ( 34 ). Wondering when this is coming to Canada, Q.Q. I hope you have at least 6gb or unlimited data?

Dude, I went from verizon to sprint to att and back to Verizon all within the last two years I think. I had the M8 but now I have the S5. XLTE was set to release the other day in tons of cities.

hahaha, funny for someone on a limited data plan, 100Mb DL @ 15 sec test = half your usage gone in one test lol

Verizon is too locked down. Pretty sure the Verizon S5 doesn't even have root yet lol.

Meanwhile in Korea they've got support for speeds up to 225Mbps which will be supported by the prime next month and here in the UK we go outside hoping just to get a good 3g signal :/, feels like living in the stoneage. 4g is just beginning to roll out to all carriers. We are so behind. *jealous*

Sadly, all that speed will be useless if you don't have unlimited data and pay an arm and a leg for it. I guess it is worth it if the needs warrant the price you have to pay to have it. I was with Verizon, and since I don't talk much I had 450 anytime minutes with unlimited text and 2g of data all for almost $100 a month. I got tired of over-paying and having to watch carefully and not go over the 2g cap. Hence I switched to Sprint and with the new Sprint Spark, I am quiet happy with it! I pay around $70 for unlimited talk/text/data a month. Sprint Spark is still new so coverage area is limited but it will get better just like when the Verizon LTE was first introduced Dec of 2010.

So your answer was to go to a carrier that hardly has any LTE? Sprint's only thing they have left is unlimited data.

I'm getting good coverage where I'm at, even picking up Spark, so I'm quiet happy with my decision. I never said to do what I did. I did say at the beginning of my initial reply that all that speed is useless if you don't have unlimited data.

Ditching AT&T for Sprint

First post in this great forum. Anyways, have a rooted inspire (shouts out to XDA for the ROM) and I love it. The only thing is, I hate AT&T and that stupid datapro plan. I am seriously thinking about ditching this service provider and its crappy network, in its hometown of Dallas, TX no less, pay the ETF fees and move to Sprint. Their plans seem attractive and they seem to be committed to unlimited data, the one thing that is attractive. Also, that Evo 3D looks nice, indeed.
Is it wise to kick AT&T to the curb and move on?
I would say so. Although, I would not count on Sprint keeping up with the unlimited plans forever, though.

If you are gonna jump, do it... Sprint may very well not keep the unlimited 4G forever. (3G is capped at 5GB) If you live in a 4G area it's worth it IMO... At least you are grandfathered in (for at least two years or your next upgrade. If they drop the unlimited) I have them for my Mobile Broadband and I'm in a 4G area and I couldn't be happier...
Sent from my NS (no it's NOT SNS or GNS)
I'd do it. AT&T is awful. The people I know that have migrated to Sprint are extremely happy they have done as much.
Handset data is truly unlimited. Just gotta hope you're in a good coverage area. Also it is worth noting many people have experienced poor, and prolonged, data speeds for a while. Some have noticed increases in speeds while some haven't. I'm in a pretty good zone and haven't seen the crazy drop in speeds. Obviously I don't speak for the masses.
They cap mobile broadband / data cards at 5GB on 3G and unlimited on 4G. Not sure if that's what the poster above was meaning as she mentioned mobile broadband AFTER* - which many seem to get mixed up with just 'data.' Alas, that is just data cards, not actual handset data.
I agree, they do appear to be pretty committed to offering truly unlimited data for mobile devices, BUT, who knows how long that will last.

Have used Sprint in the past and have been pretty happy with them overall. I prefer GSM so I use T-Mobile but I would say Sprint is better than AT&T.

AFIAK 3G data is capped. (i looked into switching after I heard about the T-mo/AT&T merger..cuz that's where I'm going once it happens) I actually called Sprint to inquire about their $129 family plan (which after the $10 data charge comes too $149 ) and that's what their rep told me.... (i guess I got another csr that doesn't actually know anything...)
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
That $10 'premium data fee' (See the '4G fee' people were mistakenly referring to it as) provided truly unlimited data - both 3G and 4G. I'm not sure how far back those 5GB caps went, or if it were always for mobile broadband, but it's not the case now.
Now that the $10 'premium data fee' covers all Sprint 'smart phones' and not just '4G phones' that also opens up the unlimited. So you wouldn't necessarily 'need' a 4G phone, even though that was never really the case.
As per the mobile broadband / data cards, I think there was a revision lately ... but I can't be bothered to look. Maybe when I get back from my beer run I'll edit my post.
Handset data = unlimited
That's reason enough for me to be sticking with Sprint. Some of the data plans on the other carriers are straight up SAD.
There are roaming data issues that Sprint can bring up, like the Verizon 'hack' that got people just kicked right off Sprint. But that's another story.
I would go to T-mobile but thats me ive been a member for 10 years only pay $190 For my Family of 4 which includes Unlimited Data and Text and 3,000 Talk Mins. But again ive been a member for 10 years so i got some special discounts.
I just switched from tmobile to sprint, (should get my evo any-day now) I heard that they offer a credit for switching by 6/23 so i went for it. tmobile also only has EDGE in my area btw that was also a big reason for switching, and att? well where i work my buddy has 3g at his house he has EDGE, and its about 2 miles away...
I thought about switching from AT&T to Sprint. I went and got a phone with Sprint before switching, so I could try it out to see how the service was around my way. I found out that Sprint had terrible service pretty much everywhere I went. Some buddies also confirmed this. I guess it's just hit and miss depending on where you are. So I've stuck with AT&T, since their service is better for me and I have my grandfathered unlimited data plan.

Which Carrier will you use your Nexus 5 with?

Simple question: Which carrier will you use with your new Nexus 5? Since it is unlocked and works on Sprint/Tmo & AT&T, it gives us major free choice to pick the carrier we want.
If you are on a prepaid or MVNO type network, just pick the host network that your MVNO runs off of.
Currently using it on AT&T.

There are plenty of internet-based solutions:
skype
viber
I guess it also depends how much you talk on the phone.

And what "Other" carrier are people using? (Must be people not in the US, sorry I didnt think of that)
Mine will be in today, have a straight talk AT&T sim and card sitting, waiting. Hoping data works with some reported issues of AT&T and the nexus 5 not having the right IMEI for their network or something.
I also got a free tmobile micro and nano sim when they were on sale the other day as a backup plan.
I was with Sprint who always has had great coverage anywhere I've gone.
That said, I'm going to try to have $600/yr by switching to TMobile.
Might add Skype if I go over minutes too much.
.
ATT here. Nice being able to finally have LTE.

I'm currently activated on the $45 straight talk plan because last month I used 2300 minutes talking to a special someone, if I find an alternative voip that is as convenient as the dialer I'd definitely do the 5 GB $30 plan. I'm in East Lansing so all three big carriers have good coverage here so that's nice.

I was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan -- it comes with LTE now that I have a phone that supports it.

Net10 $75 Unlimited 5GB Plan, anyone?

Loving my Nexus 5, it was so great to get to leave Verizon for a better phone, and a better price.
I've been on Straight Talk for the past month, and my time is almost up, 2.5gb is close, but I need a bit more. I want to get the new Net10 $75 plan, and evidently need a new AT&T sim card for their network.
Can I just buy the SIM I need and then select that plan when activating? Or do I HAVE to buy this $50 activation kit and then upgrade to the $75 after a month?
Been getting the run around on socials and help chat.

They used to be, now they offer $45/month for unlimited talk, text & 2.5GB of data.. After the 2.5, I believe they throttle.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Yup. I'm using between 2.75 and 4.5 data a month. I don't want the throttling.
Was looking at AIO, but it is throttled all the time, and who knows what will happen now that AT&T is buying Cricket (word is AIO is being shut down).
Anyways, Anyone have some helpful info?
It's 2.5gb of high speed speed data, then the slow you down to 2g.
My understanding is that you can just buy 0.99c sim off eBay and then activate it on any plan they have. It's a dollar risk, I'd try it before paying for an activation kit.. The apn settings are posted all over.

That's what I was hoping. The guy I talked to on the phone support was nice, but I could barely hear him (landline), and that sounds like maybe what he was saying.

not here in nyc, they are the best. i average 30-40mbps download and 15-25mbps upload. great lte coverage here, no dropped calls. and they are cheap not because of bad service, but because they are the 4th largest provider in the us, and are trying to take away the customers from the 3 largest providers. att is terrible in nyc(but improving), so is sprint.

My wife WORKS for T-Mobile, there's a reason I'm on AT&T now and she's giving up her Employee Plan for the same. Unlimited X No Signal = Unlimited Nothing. LOL In her call center they are lucky if they can get edge 95% of the time. In a large metro area too. In the two counties I work in, Socorro and Catron Counties, there is no T-Mobile service at all unless you stay within a few miles of the freeway (I-25), and that is spotty too. I can't be out of service for a 6 hour round trip drive to some of the lands we are responsible for near Arizona.
Hell, we live less than 200 feet from I-25, and she gets 1 to 2 bars in the house, and can't make a call unless she switches to WiFi.

I have no need for this, hence why I started the thread about this specific plan with Net10.

Sorry, that sounded rude, I just re read it. I apologize for that, wasn't my objective.
I was with T-Mobile for years under my wife's plan, I wish them nothing but luck and love how they are changing the industry, but until their network expands and gets reliable, I can't us them here in New Mexico.

Verizon N6 or spend more on GooglePlay N6

I have an upgrade available on my line(unlimited data VZW) and currently have the S4 and would like to go back to a nexus (previously had a Galaxy nexus and loved its openness) Im thinking about transferring the upgrade to my moms line(shared family data plan) and getting the N6 at $249 and then giving her my S4 so she has a better phone then what she has(cheap cheap smart phone). Are there any downside to the Verizon version of the N6? Its quite a bit cheaper then the Google play version so im really leaning towards that. After we buy the N6 on her line i would just switch the sim cards in our phone right? So she'd have the S4 and id have the N6.

Verizon doesn't offer the 64gb version. Nor white so far.
I have the unlimited plan to and just FYI you're not going to get a free upgrade to a nexus or any other phone and be able to retain your unlimited plan. The only way to retain your unlimited is to pay for the phone outright whether it's from Verizon or Google it really doesn't matter.
Sent from my Nexus 6
lol, by buying from verizon with a "discount", and extending your contract, you are actually paying more than buying it in full, and going with a non contract plan(not verizon for sure).
Well when some other provider can come out here and get me high speed access with 50-60 gigs a month without charging me more than $70 I'm on board.

I thought you could still transfer upgrades??
DebianDog said:
I have the unlimited plan to and just FYI you're not going to get a free upgrade to a nexus or any other phone and be able to retain your unlimited plan. The only way to retain your unlimited is to pay for the phone outright whether it's from Verizon or Google it really doesn't matter.

Does verizon not allow you to transfer upgrades anymore? Im not doing any switching or anything but just giving another line on our plan the discount/upgrade my line is never going to use. then after the whole deal is done and the non unlimited plan has signed a new contract and has a new n6 on it i cant just switch our sim cards and give my mom(the non unlimited line) my s4 and take her new n6??
And ya ill never leave Verizon unless t mobile picks up their speed in my area. Verizon is the only carrier that actually works all over town and has 40mbs+ down almost anywhere if you have at least 3 bars

Well when some other provider can come out here and get me high speed access with 50-60 gigs a month without charging me more than $70 I'm on board.

thats exactly what i pay for unlimited data on tmobile, and no contract. that price and a discounted n6, thats a good deal. but i know that isnt the normal verizon price.

Ya and after you pass 4gb your speed goes down to almost unusable. At least in my area its basically impossible to even look at Facebook over 2g

I'm not sure. A few of my friends had been swindled out of their unlimited plan by not paying attention to what they're signing I would be very interested to hear how it goes for you.

no such thing, lol. imagine much? im in nyc right now, and id say that in nyc tmobile has by far the fastest consistent data speeds in and around nyc. btw, nyc is tmobiles largest market, wtf would they cover it in 2G? i havent seen anything below hspa+ in nyc for the last 4 years. hspa+ is 3(.5)G, with data speeds over 42mbps.
Well tmobile still sucks here as it always has. On a good day I can get 2g

Your very lucky, i wish i could switch to tmobile, better phones, better prices, better customer service, better a lot of things lol. But here in the pacific north west specifically eastern Washington, tmobile sucks fat balls as soon as you step out of a city and sucks pretty bad if you're near any big buildings. Its like they used the very least possible towers to cover my city lol

That's absolutely false. I help people every day use their UDP line upgrades and keep UDP.

Is your UDP line in the same account as your mom's? Or is it in a subaccount?
This is the thread on using a UDP line's upgrade and keeping UDP. Be sure and read the wiki.

No offense I have seen that site before and SCAM WARNINGS went off. It may be legitimate but seems sketchy.

Well since I am the one who is helping everyone on that site I can tell you it is not a scam at all. I have used the methods myself at least 7 times now, kept UDP every time and have helped hundreds of people do it successfully.

Everybody's LTE speed? Unlimited or No?

Just curious of everybody's speed in the world? North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia. Are you unlimited? If not how many GB?
US East here average 40-80 MBs LTE depending on time of day. Unlimited LTE.
Southern CT, unlimited Verizon

At work, it's consistently this speed all day. At home I get closer to 90-100 down, but I'm on wifi anyway.

Yeah my dad lives about 2 hours out of town towards Canada near a town called Newport. I get texts intermittently and 0 data. It says I have 2 bars at most at his house. Rarely can I get a speed test and it's like 3mb down and .2 up. I've also done over the road truck driving. I've found Verizon has the widest most consistent coverage, even works at my dad's house. But I don't want to pay verizon prices and I rarely leave my city so TMO all the way.

I used to have att, switched to Verizon last summer. I priced it out, at the time I had 6 lines I was switching over. The cost for for Verizon was about $15 a month more than it would have cost on t-mobile.

When I closed my Verizon account I was paying about $150 a month for 2 lines with 6gb shared. On T mobile I pay $90 a month for 2 unlimited lines. I know verizon has been trying to compete with TMO since. But since tmobile bought all that low end spectrum, I'm waiting to see who comes out on top. Makes you wonder what Verizon has up their sleeve.

Holly crap what a rip off lol 2 lines $150 + Plus added insult 6GB shared data. Tmobile use to be garbage but not anymore. Verizon has best service coverage, but gap is closing. Glad tmobile forced unlimited and help make others do the same. I feel robbed on Verizon never again.

yes unlimited calls/data/txt/roaming in europe
they cap you if you go over 30gb a month though but this is on a 60 euro a month plan, I only have it because I get 100 minutes international as well and have friends in the US so it works out alright

Now when you get capped is it throttle for congestion times? Or does it stay 3G? With tmobile here pretty sweet after 50 GB you get throttled few hours day to 3G and Rest of day 4G.

to be honest, I don't know as I would never exceed limits anyway, it will switch between 3g/4g depending on availability where I am but with an up to 100gig wifi connection at home plus good wifi most other places I go I don't need to pay attention to it
