[Q] Wifi Problems (N 5Ghz) - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I've been having issues connecting to my wifi. It will connect, then after a few seconds drop signal, then reconnect, etc... all in a more or less non stop action.
The SSID is not broadcast, it's an N only 5ghz signal, and I have MAC filtering (permit only) enabled.
My girlfriend's M7 connects without issue.
I don't know if it's the phone, my router, or Sprint Connection optimizer? This is extremely frustrating, any help would be appreciated.

Turn off Sprint Connection Optimizer and also Settings/WiFi/Menu/Advanced/ uncheck Wi-Fi optimization.

Looks like it was the Wi-Fi Optimization. After unchecking that, the connection stabilized.
Thank you!

[Q] Am I the only one experiencing these 2 issues in regards to WiFi

Having had my LG 2x for a bout a week now I have come to find that it suffers from 2 issues I find annoying, and bordering to simply slack in making from the side of LG. Issues such as those should simply NOT excist on a phone such as this one :/
1:
I use my WiFi at home but sometimes I see that I am NOT connected to it and go into WiFi settings only to find that it says my network is "Disabled". How has it become disables, and why is the questions I would like to ask. I would like to know what causes the phone to think that.
Again my former phone was an HTC Desire and it used and connected to my WIFi network without any problems or issues leading me to suspet that this error is simply caused by LG either by fault in the hardware or a bad software that they released their phone with.....
2:
Sometimes if WiFi is actually enabled I will not be allowed to toggle on regular mobile data. The phone replies with the message "WiFi Connection open, cant open Mobile data" or something of that sort. I have gotten that message a few times over the last week and it comes regardless of whether or not my phone is actually connected to a WiFi Network or not.
Which basiclaly means that I cant use mobile data without first disabling my WiFi, reenabling mobile data and then reenable WiFi and then it works again.... for the time being.
Sometimes the phone also just disables mobile data on its own meaning I cant get any data connection unless I do the procedure above again. Its simply annoying and something that just shouldnt happen on a phone of this caliber . And with that comment I mean both the issues, because its simply not supposed to hapen for a phone in this price range or of this caliber.
All in all it seems more like LG cutting corners to be the first ones to release a Tegra2 phone. Cutting corners meaning that we have to content with a phone full of errors and bugs
I am having the same Wifi issue, it disconnects for no reason.
Hopefully this will get fixed soon in a 2.3 update. This minor wifi bug does not irritate me that much, the phone otherwise is a beast.

I had the same problem. It was caused by the wireless security/encryption method used in my router. I changed it from WPA2 Personal to WPA2 Personal Mixed, and now the router no longer disconnects my phone from the Wi-Fi. So try that.
You could disable the router wireless security entirely just to test ...

Well, I never leave the 3G connection on if I dont use it, so I can't answer you there. But Wi-Fi have greater priority than 3G. This means that enabling the 3G connection when having the Wi-Fi on and connected does not do anything. The 3G connection will only connect when the Wi-Fi is disabled.
It was the same on my former HTC Desire.

Sorry if I am a bit blunt. But that security setting has worked up till the point where I got my LG 2x, it works between all my laptops, on my SE G900, and worked flawlessly when I had my Desire, ie then its LG's issue and they just need to fix it.
IMO I can live with it getting tits up once in a while, AS LONG as it is fixed when LG releases Gingerbread. LG should however be asked why the phone "disables" the connection.
But I just checked my AP and its present setting is WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode. And the other "options" I have is: WPA2 Personal, WPA Personal, WPA2/WPA Enterprise Mixed Mode, WPA2 Enterprise, WPA Enterprise, WEP, RADIUS and Disabled.

I think you misunderstood me there . WiFi is turned on, but NOT connected, ie it should default to 3G data. But if I click my icon to turn on 3G data I just get told that it can't because WiFi is active, which it isn't since its not connected to any Access Point.
When I leaves my apartment I leave my Wifi on, and the second I leave the reception area of my AP the phone automatically switch to 3G data and back to WiFi again when I return. And thus I tend to keep both "on" to allow that seamless transition. In effect I could technically just disable my WiFi and stay on 3G considering I have a 25 Gig limit, but using my WiFi at home is just so much faster

I have the "disabled" status occasionally on my phone. It's triggered by 3 unsuccessful login attempts to the AP. This can happen if you're on the very edge of WiFi range but not sure that applies in your situation.

Well it might be that error that I am falling for then, but its just strange that the LG stalls, while my HTC Desire didn't seem to care and just grabbed the connection.
I wonder if there is some way to change it to try like 100 times or just completely ignore the limit and keep trying till it gets through.
I just had the "Disabled" issue again while sitting at home and being what 2 feet from the APN, so its certainly NOT a range issue :/
Hopefully this gets fixed with Gingerbread or I might go looking for another phone.
i have this problem with my folio and my 2x....
disabling wifi and enabling wifi helps.
for my folio i can say its a screen sleep issue(something messing with wifi as well,no solution afaik).
so if im downloading stuff and the screen goes to sleep my download stopps.
sometimes it resumes after wakeup, and wifi works fine, sometimes not.
for my folio the solution was to use the dockingstation, couse then it changes to a clock, and the screen doesnt time out.
today at work i was downloading stuff over my 2x, and expierienced the same strange behavior.
dont really know if its related(both tegra2 devices so it could be), but the occurance is too similar.

In publishing [ ] is used to insert words required for context....
Well disabling security will do me no good at all considering I dont want to leave my wireless network sitting open like leaving my house unlocked.
So no thats not really an option... sorry :/
Of course not, but have to tried? My earlier, and now, is that your problem may be caused by the security on your router. It was a problem I experienced.
I have not tried yet. Because if i turn off the security and my phone then stays connected then its not a solution >_<. Its still an issue that the phone is causing.
BUT that said I would need to leave the security off my wireless for at least a week in order to really get any reliable data on whether or not its the security setting in the router that causes the issue (But I think rather not when all other phones has no problem with it). And sorry to say this, but im not leaving my internet open for a week to determine whether or not disabling my security makes my phone able to stay connected.
My HTC Desire could get connected and never disabled WiFi on it self. And the LG 2x does it. Ergo it must be an issue on the phone when it is the only phone in and around me that causes that issue.
have you tried changing the pw to a shorter one? in the shop where i work, some devices have problems with long passwords. some just connect to the router with the 10 char pw. connecting to the other router(20char pw) is sometimes a problem. the two routers are the same modell.
EDIT just tried it with the optimus, both router work, so this wont be an solution. sorry

WiFi unreliable/constantly dropping signal and disconnecting

Note: Thread cross posted here.
Phone: Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo aka quark XT1254. Sunshine rooted, TWRP 3.1.1-0 for recovery.
Problem: WiFi constantly disconnects from network. Several seconds is the longest it has been connected before dropping. Issue persists on multiple WiFi networks as well as the following ROMs:
AospExtended-v4.0-quark-20170406-1925-OFFICIAL.zip
AospExtended-v4.2-quark-20170511-1731-OFFICIAL.zip
RR-N-v5.8.4-20170815-quark-Official.zip
crDroidAndroid-7.1.2-20170815-quark-v3.7.zip
Usually using open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20170817.zip
Tried flashing Clean_modem_status.zip followed by flashing MCG24.251-5-5+ModemFsg.zip and SU4TL-49_bl-radio_twrp.zip (while restoring from a backup of my original bootloader).
Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Thank you!
Same Issue here. For the life of me I can't figure it out. I think this is an issue with the phone and not the software.

You've done almost everything I would suggest. Here's two more suggestions.
1) disable 5GHz band and use 2.4GHz only . 5Ghz is notoriously weak and you will get a lot of disconnections. Yes, 2.4GHz is slower but also much more stable -- and the signal goes for longer distances. 5GHz has much shorter broadcast range. I disable it on all the phones I touch. Once I disable it on my friends' phones, they no longer complain about Wi-Fi.
2) See if your Aggressive Handover setting is enabled and disable it. May be in Dev Options. That also causes Wi-Fi drops.
It could be a hardware issue. I've noticed an issue with my GPS reception (really, the lack of GPS reception) and I think it is a problem with the antennas in the phone. After I looked at a diagram of where the antenna are located for GPS and then pressing the phone front and back together in that spot, the signal would lock in. You might want to try something similar for where the wifi antenna are located. Here is the link to the diagram:
https://fccid.io/IHDT56PK1/Internal-Photos/Internal-Photos-2385106
If you look at the last image there the wifi antenna is located just underneath the gps antenna in the top corner of the phone.
Having the same issue with on a 32GB i just switched to from my 64GB which has been super slow even on a fresh install. I will be restoring to factory image this weekend and see if that fixes anything. My wifi stays connected though at least but gets 1-1.5mbps MAX and cell reception drops to 3G in about 80% of the places i easily got 4G at.
Wi-fi drops on Droid Turbo 2
Solved
I'd sign on to my home wi-fi. It showed as being connected and IP address found and then in a second or so WiFi Disconnected.
Verizon provides an app called Security & Privacy. I realized it was taking action if I tried to enter an unsecured wifi, such as that from optimum. I entered it and turned Wi-Fi security OFF.
Voilà! My wi-fi no longer drops.

Glad you got it straightened out. So it was a Verizon app problem...
For others who are not using this app, if your Wi-Fi always drops seriously consider disabling the 5GHz Wi-Fi band and check your Aggressive Handover setting.

Try to clear the cache on the phone. It fixed my issues. I found the app to clear one time but this time I just cleared the phone cache available from the boot menu.

Wi-Fi disconnects?

I've been seeing this since day 1 with the Note 8.
I would expect WiFi to disconnect and reconnect when I'm out and about but I'm mostly seeing this on my home Wi-Fi.
check your advanced settings under wifi, it has a option for switch to mobile if signal is weak, this is a notorious issue for loosing wifi

Rog phone 2 restart its wifi and cellular connection at the same time when sim(s) has weak cellular reception. ( It completely disconnected from cellular service and wifi for around 3seconds before it's establish it's new connection. It's very annoyed when i play game. Because if i don't turn off my sim(s) or use airplane mode while i play game. I will get disconnected from connection in the middle of the game(afk).)

There are few members here also have same problem as me.
you could try do disable Wi-Fi scanning - search in the settings for 'scanning' and under Wi-Fi scanning, disable wifi and bluetooth. it may just fix the issue... so i have read on the telegram group forum

Solution is change your router wireless signal to either 2.4g or 5g but not mixed, as the phone tends to jump between the 2 quite often causing the disconnects.

Hey I've found out what to do and it's pretty simple. The cause of the disconnecting is that this phone keeps from switching from 5ghz Frequency to 2.4 and back so what you need to do is make your router stay at 5ghz or 2.4ghz (you can watch a video about the deferences so you can choose what to turn off)
Follow these steps:
Go to settings---Network and Internet---WiFi---click on your wifi---find gateway number (example 192.***.*.1) then write it in a Browser and it will send you to your Router provider website.
Now that site looks different from person to person so what you do now is look around that site until you find an option to turn off one of both GHz (2.4 or 5) so yeah that is pretty much it have fun a with stable wifi connection =)

Question WiFi Problems

Hi community,
I'm writing because I have a strange WiFi problem with my S21 Ultra which I had with no other equipment before.
Setup:
- Galaxy S21 Ultra
- FritzBox 7590
- Fritz WLan Repeater 1750E (2x for better range coverage)
- WiFi 5G Auto channel WPA2/3
- WiFi coverage is good (tested with a lot of other devices)
Phone Setup:
- Paired with the WiFi
- Do Not use Mobile Data
- automatically reconnect to wifi
Problem:
The phone does not automatically connect to the WiFi.
The phone also looses the connection to the WiFi several times a day.
When the phone is not connected to the wifi I open wifi settings.
- It happens that the wifi list is completely empty and the circle animation indicates that the phone is searching for nearby connections
- It happens that the wifi list contains a list of wifi networks the phone has seen before when it was connected last to a wifi
- Switching off an on the wifi helps to find the actual networks and the phone then connects back to wifi (most of the time)
I tried already several settings and combinations but so far none of them brought any success. So I would like to know if someone else had a similar issue or has an idea what could go on here.
To me it seems strange that the wifi scan is not working as I would expect it. I would expect the phone to continously refresh the wifi list with networks it sees, but always when the phone lost its wifi connection the list is not working anymore.
Try tinkering with the wifi channels and encryption until it shows up.
Or you can try resetting the routers to see if it does anything

You said the phone loses connection and etc. Does that happen only at the location you described, or does it also happen at other locations?
It is possible that your phone also gets confused with the router and the repeater.

- Phone is on standby (placed on a table, etc.)
- I turn it on to check messages,
- No connection to wifi

- No wifi networks listed at all
I do not know why my router/network should be the problem. All other devices in the wifi work flawlessly. It cannot be that I have to restart my wifi router every time the phone finds no wifi at all. That makes no sense to me.
It looks more like the android wifi service is still on sleep and does not report new wifi networks (which would be necessary also to see any wifi at all).
May I suggest....
Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi -> (three dots it top right) ->Advanced
Make sure "Turn on Wi-Fi automatically" and "Wi-Fi power saving mode" are both off.
If you use a repeater is it a mesh or AP solution? I find Android will drag its feet letting go of a wifi signal even when walking into range of another known network. Had an extender in garden and even when down to 10% connection on Wi-Fi it would stay connected to extender, I had to turn wifi off and on quickly to get it to pick a better network.

Mesh is a single network solution so should not be a problem.
The only other thing I can think of is the power-saving mode. My son has his Pixel on power saving all the time and I know sometimes he has to turn off/on wifi to get a connection when waking the phone up
I found the issue! It is WiFi Direct related. The app "nexar" from the dashcam is interfering with normal WiFi on this phone. Nexar conquers the WiFi functionality and is responsible for my wifi disconnecting. The app requires the "Location always" permission. If I remove this permission my WiFi works again normally. So: one has a similar issue: remove "Location always" permission from the nexar app. In my case it helped.
You said the phone loses connection and and many others. Does that show up best on the region you described, or does it also happen at different places?
Kodi nox
