[Q] Can I flash old stock rom on new version - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I flash 2.24.xxx.xx stock rom on 4.19.xxx.xx?

Yes.
You *can*. Not sure why you *would*.
You may experience issues if you don't wipe data.
I don't believe you will experience issues due to the switch from /data/media/ to /data/media/0 going between 2.xx4.xx
(If you were going back to 1.xx it might require some cleanup to find your pictures etc.)

I want to restore my rooted device to stock, my CID is HTC__J15 and hboot 1.56 and S-on, software version 4.19.401.5, so I want to restore to stock in order to get OTA of sense 6 once it's out, so what can I do? What are the options I have to restore?

I see. This is a good strategy I guess. Go for it. Other strategies may require just as much work and/or S-OFF.

Ok thank you, so if I wiped all data and flashed 2.xx or 3.xx I won't brick the phone right? I did a Nandroid backup and I will do an adb backup just in case anything goes wrong

No-- you may have issues with touch panel drivers being out of sync due to potentially going back.
You SHOULD S-off, JUST incase you need to troubleshoot further. DO NOT downgrade without it.
Also you maybe to run a 1.29 or 1.28. RUU as well IF you are S-OFF, as long as your MID/CID matches

Yes that sounds like a good plan.

Ok thank you for warning me I will turn S-off then use the
Stock rom and if it goes wrong will use the RUU as you stated

I can't find RUU for my CID, I read on htc1guru.com
that I can change CID into the compatible one of the RUU I downloaded then after restoring change the CID back to stock, does this work? Getting for example AT&T RUU for Arabic/UAE HTC One version?

Help returning to stock for repair

Hi Guys i am following this guide to restore my phone to stock for HTC repair (camera issue)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358738
do I need to make the phone s-on and lock the bootloader?
it mentions that can brick if has a modified HBOOT when re-locking the bootloader
so my main question is this "is the Stock HBOOT included in RUU?

no problem, please follow instruction 1, then 2 then 3, etc.
s-on is OPTIONAL, it's up to YOU to decide that
still having trouble, found my original stock backup of 4.2.2, but now have HBOOT 1.44, i really need a full Vodafone UK RUU the .exe version would probably be best but just cant find anywhere, cant even flash the OTA RUU probably because I have mismatched firmware, recovery and HBOOT now,
well UPS is picking it up tomorrow so i'll just have to hope they don't refuse repair due to software not being 100% stock especially as the issue is a hardware fault
wish me luck and thanks for you help

1- you might wanna edit your post and remove IMEI and s/n
2- from above getvar, you look like you followed the first part of my guide an now your phone, is an European unbranded phone.
3- so quick quick question, you wanna go back to "VODAP001" (do you really need to?) ? is there a nandroid backup out there?

don't forget you need "stock recovery" for OTA to update correctly, and do not go from s-off to s-on on 4.3 (hboot 1.55) it will most likely trigger a "tamper detected"!!
if you did get hboot 1.55 just keep s-off, otherwise you're gonna be back on square 1.
I have to sign off now, but you can PM me if anything comes up before tomorrow.
if my guide did help you in any way, i would appreciate it if you posted your details, in my thread (whenever you get a chance), it will be helpful to others.
and hit the thanks button in the guide
good luck :fingers-crossed:
Yeah I flashed my original stock backup, flashed stock recovery and locked bootloader , I had forgot to change my CID back, it wasn't till u advised that I post my " getvar all" that I noticed, I haven't checked if my HBOOT is still 1.44 or updated to 1.55 yet, I left s-off hope it still is, again many thanks mate

Yeah I'm on HBOOT 1.55 now but still s-off, I take it if I s-on again I won't be able to get it back, I used rumrunner s-off last time but I that was on HBOOT 1.54 iirc, not that it matter now anyway

Keep s-off, otherwise u may end up having to start at square 1, and if I read correctly, u have to send it off in the morning.
UK repair centers seem quite decent, and they can't really prove it wasnt s-off to begin with.

the variant error shows up when your OS in the bootloader and Software number inside the ROM doesnt match, you need to find a compatible ROM, the ROM you are using (3.63.707.3) is for India/Asia with cid HTC__038 and HTC__044 and MIDs PN0711000 and PN0714000 respectively, what's your Model ID? can you post the results of "fastboot getvar all" excluding your Serial No. and IMEI? if you can tell me your Model ID i can suggest the compatible stock ROM reset or RUU for your phone

Found a compatible RUU from the thread you gave. But couldn't flash the RUU zip, always got different errors.
Got sick of this after 11 hours of research and stuff. I've just SOFF'd my M7 with Sunshine, revert back to 1.29 (Sense 5 and 4.1.2 ) now installing all the firmwares one by one.

did you relock bootloader and use the htc_fastboot.exe? then it should have worked just fine.
anyway, S-OFF is a much better thing to have imho, and since you're S-OFF you could consider changing the modelid to PN0710000; obviously it wont give you LTE (since the hardware is missing), but would allow you to get the "regular" .401. OTAs
but guess you wont need to worry about that for the time being, since PN0711000 is also on new version now.

First see red text above, its dangerous to post that info
second, you didn't look very hard, this rom is the easiest stock rom to find, you can either try running this RUU

he can use the guru reset file to go back to 3.62.401.1 and then OTA all the way from there, I did the same myself before I went s-off to get an OTA, I did notice he has 11 where as the RUU is 9, unfortunately 11 was a small OTA from 9 but thought it was worth a try.

the Guru Reset ROM could work, if he get's a notification to 4.19.401.11... but if there's an OTA version in between the two, it could fail because of the "version" downgrade
EDIT, true it's a small upgrade, so both your ideas could work, but for the RUU.EXE to work, he would need to use the misctool to change version-main to something lower, otherwise the ruu.exe won't let it through.

yep, sorry about that, I guess you could try the Guru Reset ROM and see if the OTA works, since the 4.4 RUUs are extremely sensitive.
but out of curiosity, why do you need stock and get OTAs? (and why no S-Off?)

Well I have 2 HTC ones (both rooted with custom ROMs) I wanted to get back to stock and do some tests. And I really actually don't know why I don't have s-off, I think because it's just that I'm not bothered to get it, so I just unlocked bootloader via HTC dev.

Well you already know my answer to S-Off: if you can get it, then do it.... with S-Off you wouldn't even need this thread, you'd just flash an old ruu and you are done.
hboot 1.56 is already tough to get S-Off, but hboot 1.57 (the one you'll get once you receive the 5.xx OTA, is even tougher/close-to-impossible)
but if you don't want to be bothered with that, I personally would try the Guru Reset ROM, and see how that works out.
I saw a 4.19.401.? guru reset rom around these forums somewhere created by crushalot an updated one and im buggered if I can find it, it doesn't seem to be on his site yet, there was a backup and a guru reset of it in the same thread.

Sorry for over-thinking this one, i guess i couldn't see the forest through the trees
Just install "One_4.19.401.11_odexed.zip" using custom recovery (I have a copy of the file if you can't find it online, but would take hours to upload, and i'm sure a simple search will find it; just make sure it's the HTC One M7 ROM... the one I have has MD5=DEBE52CBCA078E3B64C78AC06DFA1D42),
EDIT: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358545504
then flash stock recovery: http://d-h.st/Igg and you're done.
Will this definitely work, I really don't wanna get my phones bricked

yep, should work fine.
Since you are S-On with "(bootloader) version-main: 4.19.401.11" means you couldn't have messed around with firmware, and the above odexed ROM is stock ROM for your MID+CID.
Once you have the ROM installed you will get the OTA update notification, but it won't install until you flash back the stock recovery (OTA updates don't work with custom recovery)

I dont know if you are talking about sim unlock or bootloader unlock but anyway, both sim and bootloader will stay unlocked even if you flash another rom or if you debrand the phone.
I see

If you want a full conversion, you can s-off the phone, change cid to HTC__001 and flash a x.xx.401.x RUU. Your best option to s-off on hboot 1.57 is probably sunshine s-off but its a paid exploit (25 USD) or you can try firewater, its free but it will require more steps and you have like 50% chance it will not work.
or the easier way, if you only want a debranded rom, you could only unlock the bootloader, flash twrp 2.6.3.3 and then flash a rom (like arhd 71.1)

Tell HTC/test device is normal. You'll always get this message at the initial setup with s-off phones, don't worry with this.
The ruu will not turn back s-on and thats a good thing. Keep your phone s-off.

Yeah I thought it was the s-off causing this. Thanks for you reply, gonna install update after update and see if it comes up with the latest. Bit strange it doesn't install the absolute latest, but I guess the final update size would be huge to have all the fixes in previous versions in one.

HTC ONE M7 Rooting - How would I go back?

Hi everyone, I apologies if this is a bit of a silly question however I am attempting to root an android device for the first time and would just like to know what you thought about an issue which I am having.
My question is, I plan to root my phone and install TWRP recovery, if I ever needed to unroot I am under the impression I would need an RUU which matches the radio very I have. The details of the radio is 4T.29.3218.08 and the phone is from the UK (Europe). I cannot find this version anywhere. If I ever needed to unroot does this mean I would not be able to?
This is the only thing which is now stopping me from rooting my phone... Thank you in advance for your replies.

So a couple of questions. Does that mean there is never going to be an RUU for my phone or is it just with time there will be more for the current version? As for flashing to the odex Rom and stock recovery, the Rom would be simple enough for TWRP recovery, how would i do the stock recovery part? Or would they be an all in one installation, installing the Rom would also install the recovery?

flash the stock rom using twrp and then flash the stock recovery the same way you have flashed twrp recovery. Twrp will be overwritten by the stock recovery.
Just keep in mind that you'll need s-off if you want your warranty back (to set the bootloader back to *locked* (not relocked) and to remove the *tampered* flag)

Yes but if you make a backup of your rom after unlocking the bootloader, there will be some files missing (htc preloaded apps in /data/preload) which will prevent you to use ota updates is you restore this backup. There is a 6.09.401.10 nandroid backup including the /data/preload folder on android file host.

You can extract it from any 6.09.401.10 firmware or from the 6.09.401.5 to 6.09.401.10 ota zip file.
nvm, I found it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001603803
@alray - So my steps to stock would be:
Download and install the rom using TWRP recoveryfrom the following address:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473396068
Then install the stock recovery from the following link (Install is the same way I installed TWRP):
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001603803
If the phone is still S-ON, I will not be able to change the label so will have to make it S-OFF if I need to change - just out of curiosity, if I leave the phone S-ON will this affect OTA updates?
Then factory reset the phone - I should be back to a stock phone.
Would these steps be correct?

yes:

No, if you rom is 100% stock (which will be the case after restoring the above backup) and you have stock recovery, youre good for ota update. S-ON/S-OFF doesn't affect ota updates.
Then factory reset the phone - I should be back to a stock phone.

My phone has hit the purple tint issue which is a well known fault. I have spoken to HTC and they have said that they will fix under warranty. I need to return the phone back to stock. I know I can use the nandroid backup and the recovery in the post above but I am very confused on how to S-off.
My problem is there are so many guides (some of them being very old) on how to do this and I do not know which method to use. Could someone please point me in the right direction so I can return my phone back to stock.
Thank you so much

I would highly recommend to follow nkk71's super guide (linked in my signature). Everything is well explained in details, just make sure to read everything before beginning and also read the FAQ of his guide.
To achieve s-off, you will need to use Sunshine if your hboot is 1.57 or above. Sunshine cost 25$ USD. Its the only method to achieve s-off on hboot 1.54 and above.
S-OFF is a must to remove the tampered banner and set back the bootloader to ***LOCKED*** (not ***RE-LOCKED***) so your warranty is still valid, but again everything explained in that guide. If you have any question you can ask here or in nkk71's guide. If you have questions, post an updated "fastboot getvar all" at the same time.

I believe my phone has Hboot version 1.57. Is there no way I can downgrade or is sunshine the only way to return to stock? The details of the getvar all are:

The guide is really good, just one thing has thrown me though, Im not too sure which RUU to use.
I can see RUU for:
CID HTC__001
and MID PN0710000
but not baseband 4T.29.3218.08
Do I just use the files you linked me to in the posts above?

Downgrading requires s-off, s-off can only be achieved using Sunshine when hboot is 1.57 or newer

1.28.401.7 RUU zip
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-zip/
Baseband version is irrelevant when looking for RUUs. You want a ruu that match your CID, MID and firmware base (.401). Also you need the ruu to be hboot 1.44 (1.xx.xxx.x) so you can safely remove the tampered banner. So in our case you must use the 1.28.401.7 ruu.zip.

Just so I know for the future, I know my firmware base is .401 based on the following line:
(bootloader) version-main: 6.09.401.10
Is this right? Thank you for your help!

Right and also because your CID and MID are HTC__001 and PN0710000 so the corresponding software/firmware base is x.xx.401.x
