[Q] /datadata partition problem on SlimKat - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been having problem with the SlimKat with the /datadata partition being full. i dont have many applications (i think) and i just reflashed the latest stable build a week back with full factory reset and system format. And now i have the /datadata partition full and problems when some applications fill up the cache even a little.
i tried search for solutions on google and on here, but they seem to be outdated for (mostly for CM7/CM9) and not for KK.
I only have about 50 apps installed mostly small applications like greenify, multiling keyboard es file explorer and airdroid. And i move applications to SD card when i can.
The largest application are:
Taomix 39 Mb
OfficeSuite 37 Mb
Line 27 Mb
Perfectly Clear 24 Mb
Google Music 23 Mb
And i constantly use Clean Master to clean caches and junk files.
i'm not really proficient in linux commands so correct me if i'm wrong.
The df command on terminal shows only a few kb of space remaining.

But while doing
du -m /datadata | sort -nr | head -n 20
it shows that it only has 141 Mb, so i'm guessing it only examines folders
And directory analyze on ES Explorer shows it has 265 Mb
So i'm not sure what to make of this. I'm assuming that the du -m command and the ES file explorer are showing different results because they are analyzing different things.
My question is, Is there a way to find what's the cause of this and is there a way to clean up files without messing everything.
Or is there a way to increase the size of /datadata partition and/or relink it to somewhere else.
I've found that there are scripts to do this but they seem to be outdated.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Is it only me that's got this problem??
Anyone??

I have Mackay ROM 4.9.0 installed and a couple of times per day I get FC and an unusable phone due to the same datadata problem. Restart does not work and the only thing I can do is uninstall an application to make more space in the datadata folder (which is 422mb).
I kid you not when I say that I have uninstalled PLENTY of applications and at times have had upwards of 30mb free, but then a few hrs later the blasted folder is full again and I have not done anything! I have tried to see what apps r taking the p*ss but accessing the system is super slow and unusable on the phone and the time I did try, it wouldn't let me as there was like 84kb free in the datadata. When this happens, I am not able to send SMS, answer calls or do anything.
I have just seen that Mackay has a 4.9.3 out only 2 days ago so I am going to try that and see if it makes a difference. AFAIK, this problem only started recently (probably due to the not officially released 4.9.0) so fingers crossed it will sort it out. Otherwise, I will just have to do a hard reset and start from scratch....This little (NOT!) problem has seriously made me decide to buy another phone but I am still undecided which one! All the damn new ones are like 5.5" and the smaller HTC M8 is metal so looks cool but if u drop it it will DENT!...nobody mentions that just moans incessantly about the un-premium feel and look of the plastic ones - at least they are hardy and it's cheaper to replace the casing! Stupid people!

there's a code that resets the data partition to factory state, the code is *#*#7780#*#* but use it only if you can't find any other solution. Use this at your own risk and mske a nandroid backup first before you try it.

if I wanted to reset the partition I could do it many ways. The problem here is the datadata partition is filling up with something that cannot be deleted even when formatted through CWM. It seems like a problem with linux partitions where deleted files arent released by processes. But I cant seen to find how to delete them you free up space.
I found the following command online and using it on terminal gives me some null and roots listings.
lsof L1 | grep deleted
This problem is fixed by flashing stock gingerbread but the problem seems to come back again. So may be its a internal memory card issue or not. i'm not sure. Other partitions are working fine without problems.
Has anyone else had this

!!!!!!!!SOLVED!!!!!!!!Cyanogen after root

!!!!!!!!SOLVED!!!!!!!!
So a few months back I decided to so what all the hype was about and got root and JF 1.51. Everything went smoothly until I saw JF quit and no one was making themes for his stuff. I waited a while but decided to reflash with cyanogen because of the nice themes but low and behold I lost root. I tried the one click thing and it always says failed. So I went back to RC29 and did the whole spiel again... the first time I almost couldn't use the thing. Wiped and all went well until I tried to mod a little more in the terminal. I hit su, got a force close from superuser permissions, and it told me permission denied. I have hardspl, the radio with the long number recommended in every post, and cyanogen's recovery. I figured maybe it got corrupted somehow so I tried again from RC29 on up. It worked for 2 days. Superuser permissions worked like a charm until it just stopped working. I flashed again and the same thing. 2 days good and then boom... permission denied. I tried reinstalling superperms but it told me I can't. Is there something I can do wihout having to reflash every 2 days?
Bump?? Not quite a priority but have been working on this for about 3 weeks now and since I've found nothing googling and only similar problems here I was hoping for any kind of response.

Hopefully that solves your question...
Yeah... I know. It's a patch to keep the security flaw open. I get that part. What I'm saying is that when I use an app to gain root (ie terminal with su, backup for root, or cache to sd and so forth) I get an error saying that superuser permissions needs to close and permission is denied. I want to use su in the terminal emulator. I can't and have never been able to with cyanogen. Worked wonderfully in JF 1.51. Can I reinstall superuser permissions app somehow or bypass it somehow to I can get root? I know the OS has access but I want to have access too.
try this, remove the .zip extension from the file. put it on the root of your sdcard, go to the recovery console and type this
Code:
mount system
mount sdcard
cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
(or use [B]mv[/B] if [B]cp[/B] doesn't work)
reboot
Thank you so very much David1171. That did the trick perfectly. You are a god among men. Not only did you solve my problem but you also gave me some insight on the system structure. Thanks a million.

i think that is taking it way to far man but yeah anytime you see a command to move something to /system/app/appname.apk with adb that will work for doing it in the recovery console. also i always do it in the recovery console because it is easier to type mount system then it is to type the command to mount system in the terminal emulator.

I am not sure what rom you ended up on, but with the hardspl and cyanogen recovery image it is nearly impossible to lose root unless you specifically want to.
So if you were on rc29 whenever you took the advice and got "su" working, flash a newer rom, like cyanogen 4.0.4. Dont just use rc29 with the super use whitelist app working because it is outdated and there will be problems for you.

he's on 4.0.4 (from what i ascertain), his superuser.apk got corrupted somehow and wouldn't let him use his root access.

Virus on my moms laptop.

Alright. She has some weird program on there called "System Tools 2011" and I don't know how it got there. Right when you boot up, a minute into it, it pops up the app and a wallpapers and blocks you from A LOT of things. You can't back up files to a USB, can't access Control Panel, etc... when I did get into the Control Panel, it won't allow me to uninstall the app because it doesn't show up and there is no way to uninstall it. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? Any ideas? Let me know please. Thanks.

Download RKill and run it!!! search Google about RKill. And stop turning it off and on...that will damage your computer to the point of no return
I've removed that virus from two computers already but read above!!!
Nice to see you around little one
Or you can google the name and find the registry keys for said virus and remove them. DOne that at work manny times and saves the time of backup and format
I have had to literally roll back my computer to an earlier date to get rid of the annoying pop ups and remove viruses like that. And yes, I got them from torrents.
As an IT Tech for many years those Viruses are a pain to deal with. I use a paid AV Boot CD called Avast BART or you can try using TRK (Trinity Rescue Kit) Bootable CD AV's work best as they are seperate from the OS. Try TRK just google it and burn it to a disk. Best of luck!
Malwarebytes/Spybot/NOD32 cocktail also does a pretty decent job at getting rid of that crap. Just remember to turn off System Restore or your viruses will be back upon booting your computer.
MalwareBytes anti-malware is great but some viruses are so good that they will block any known anti-virus program from executing.
What are the Symptoms of System Tool 2011 Infection?
It will modify Windows Registry and add the following entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\System Tool 2011
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “5648541024″
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “[random]”
The threat will drop the following malicious files:
%AppData%\[random]\
%AppData%\5648541024
%AppData%\5648541024\5648541024.bat
%AppData%\5648541024\5648541024.cfg
%AppData%\5648541024\5648541024.exe
%UserProfile%\Desktop\System Tool 2011.lnk
%UserProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\System Tool 2011.lnk
How to Remove System Tool 2011 Manually
1. Restart your computer in SafeMode
- Press F8 on keyboard as soon as you turn on the computer
- Select SafeMode to start the computer loading only minimal resources
2. Delete Windows registry entries the malware created. It is important to BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST.
- On Windows Start Menu, Click Start > Run
- Type in the field, regedit
- Find registry entries mentioned above and delete if necessary
3. Files related to System Tool 2011 must be deleted:
- Browse and delete malicious files detected above.
- Some files cannot be deleted instantly. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Windows Task Manager, look for any virus-related files mentioned on this page and highlight it, click End Process. Try to delete the file once more.
4. Run Antivirus Program
- You must be connected to Internet to be able to update your anti-virus program. This is needed to have the latest database available and detect newer threats.
- Thoroughly scan the computer and clean or delete all detected threats.
+1 for rkill > malwarebyte
if rkill doesn't work at the first time, keep running it until is says successful

[Q] Any help with installing Ubuntu to an external HDD?

Hi all.
So I posted this a few days ago in the Ubuntu Forums, but go no reply, and am completely stuck as to what to do. XDA was the next place I thought of to go to for help, simply because the community has always been really helpful and supportive. Any insight or ideas whatsoever would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Liam.
First off, I apologise if this is in the wrong section of the forums, or if I'm otherwise breaking any rules. Please correct me if I am
So, I'll try to keep this as brief as I can.
I've been trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 to my portable external HDD (USB-powered), and have run in to a few issues. The drive is ~931GB, (marketed as 1TB), and I've separated it into five partitions: a 750GB storage partition & a 60GB backup partition, a 110GB Ubuntu partition, a 10GB swap partition, and there's also about 1.5GB of unused, unformatted space.
I went about the installation from a LiveCD, and I seemingly successfully installed Ubuntu to the external HDD. Under the 'Something Else' option during the installation, I made sure to select my external HDD as the location to install GRUB (/dev/sdb), selected my Ubuntu partition (/dev/sdb3) as the location to install Ubuntu itself, and selected my swap partition as well (/dev/sdb4).
After, I tried booting off the external HDD, and was taken to the GRUB rescue menu:
error: unknown filesystem.
grub rescue > _
So, I booted back into my LiveCD and searched around for a bit, and on the way noticed that GRUB had been installed to /dev/sdb3 (my Ubuntu partition), under the folder /boot/grub. From what I understand, this is because GRUB automatically installs where ever Ubuntu does? Maybe not.
Anyway, after going through the Fixing a Broken System and Troubleshooting guides on the Ubuntu website (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting), I am still stuck with the same problem, and I'm clueless as to how to fix it.
I wouldn't call myself a Linux/Ubuntu newbie―I've been using it on and off for a few years now―but apart from knowing the basic way around a command line, my knowledge is very limited.
The only thing I can possibly think of is that the partitions need to be at the 'front' of the drive, if that even makes any sense? I've also attached a screenshot from GParted to illustrate the way my HDD is set out.

Thanks for your time, and sorry for the essay
Liam.
It's been a while since I had the time to play with Linux, but have you followed the instructions on the first page you posted and reinstalled GRUB to sdb (with no partition number)?
If you are still struggling then it may be worth your time heading over to the Mint forums http://forums.linuxmint.com/ and having a search there - they also tend to be more friendly and helpful than the Ubuntu guys.
Boot Live CD and try re-installing GRUB.
Re-installing is the easiest solution.

[Q] device not recognised / cannot install driver W7 64-bit

I'm having problems with my Galaxy S GT-I9000. First, the history, in case that offers any clues. [I should say, "The history as far as I know it." The phone was given to me from someone's proverbial 'sock drawer'; it could have been there for a reason...]
It was running crap with stock firmware (couldn't delete files or pictures [well, they would delete, but they'd always come back], had a hard time writing files [they would write (sometimes) but then disappear (though not immediately)], tons of 'Force close' messages for apps, couldn't change G-Mail account, etc., etc., etc.). I used Kies to update the firmware to 2.3.6. When this was completed I seem to remember some message about not being able to go back to the firmware I updated from. Unfortunately, I didn't write that message down. I figured the new Samsung firmware would fix things.
However, the problems persisted with the new Samsung / Kies-provided firmware. At that point I decided to try third party firmware, specifically Cyanogen 7.2.0. I followed the instructions at the wiki[dot]cyanogenmod[dot]org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd site (sorry, apparently I'm not able to post external links as a new user). Heimdall put Semaphore's CWM on just fine, and I can still boot into it no problem. I then tried to flash the ROM from the internal SD card (though it took a few tries to copy it there successfully [see write problems referred to above]). It didn't work... It got to Andy on the blue skateboard, but then just looped. And looped and looped and looped... I then tried install the ROM from an external SD card. This seemed to get farther (Andy hung around longer on the first boot after flashing than previously), but it still ended up looping.
I tried the Troubleshooting instructions in the cyanogenmod site referred to above (basically, a different Recovery version). The new Recovery installed fine, but Cyanogen did not... Same boot loop.
I'd like to try to use ADB to push the ROM back to the internal SD card, but now my computer doesn't install the drivers for Galaxy S when I plug it into USB. I have tried to re-install "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe" (v. 1.5.27.0), but it still doesn't get the right driver (Win 7-64). "Galaxy S" shows up in Device Manager, under "Other Devices", when I plug it in, but with a yellow triangle and no valid driver.
I've read a bit about internal memory issues with the Galaxy S. Am I banging my head against the wall with this phone? Does it sound like the internal memory is hooped? Is there any fix if it is? It seems to me that, following the instructions, a flash should work. Since it isn't, I'm beginning to think that it's not able to write/read what it needs to to/from internal memory...
If any of that twigs your memory for a suggestion as to how to proceed, please let me know. I've tried a lot, but probably not everything... Thanks for listening.

For first issue download win 7 drivers from My Android Collections, also for fixing USB problems follow this as for your basic problem, what you seem to indicate is a corrupted Internal SD card, to solve that you need to use only the External SD card by this method

The Optimizer Repeatedly Deletes My .apk Files

I have encountered the same problem described in this post.
I have a P30 pro with EMUI 12. I have turned off "auto-clear junk" switch in Optimizer but it still operates auto-clear.

I saved some .apk files in the storage for backup. Each time the auto-clear finished, I found my .apk files disappeared.
I can't directly modify the storage permission of Optimizer.
I tried revoke storage permission in ADB
Code:
adb shell pm revoke com.huawei.systemmanager android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
but got an error.
I contacted Huawei customer service. They replied that this was an prototype device and they couldn't help.
Although I can uninstall this app via ADB, I'm not sure whether it will cause system instability.
Is there any way to protect .apk files in phone storage except for uninstalling Optimizer?

yes their is a way i am not sure if it will work but go to setting and go to apps their will be admin apps or something and many special apps access just turn off everything and another way is to install another anivirus software like (AVG,Avast ) and when they take control it is next to impossible to delete anything with your permission .
Hope u liked it pls like and follow me
Never happened to me. Optimizer only deletes cache and junk files automatically
Must be a setting you messed with...
