TeamOctOs: Looking for a TF701T tester or two - Asus Transformer TF701

We are currently looking for a tester or two to help expand Octo-Kat to TF701T. Tester should be able to fix their device from a semi-bricked state, as none of us have a Transformer. While the chances are low, we will NOT have the ability to step a tester through fixing their device should something bad happens. Just as a fair warning

[Q] Bitbop beta?

well i've been searching around n found no answer. is there any way to get involved in this beta? or is it like a closed press only type of beta? i have seen many videos on it n i just wanna get my hands on it! of course since its probably against the rules to post the direct apk, anyone know how to get in on this or is it strictly closed? also....if you have the actual beta, no harm in DMing me the apk
bitbop beta
Hi, letting you know that the beta is associated with specific accounts so even if you have the apk file you will not be able to use the app without a valid Bitbop account. Please follow us on twitter twitter.com/bitbop and contact me at beta at bitbop dot com and we can get you set up. Thanks Paula
Paula,
I signed up for the BitBop service now that it is released but saw that there is no tablet support. I have sent customer service an email about it but have not heard back. I was able to load the app for my phone (Droid X) but would really prefer to use the app on my tablet (Viewsonic G Tablet - running VEGAn 1.0 beta 5.1 - froyo) since it has a much bigger screen. I see this is an old thread but was hoping you would still get this post.
Hi sjmoreno, I am sorry, at this time we do not support your Viewsonic G Tablet. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, thanks Paula
Thanks Paula for the response. Can you tell me if your company is planning on supporting tablets in the future and if so what type of timeline and devices?

[Q] Touchdown Pro - IMEI number

I am trying to get Touchdown pro to sync with my work exchange server but I keep getting caught in a endless loop of sync. When I view the logs I keep seeing "Exception: cannot get IMEI number". Has anyone else had this problem with Touchdown Pro on their g tablet? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me on this one.
This exact same thing is happening to me, wow. Just Googled it and you showed up.
Looking for a fix... the app looks like it'd be so sick for the G-Tab...
So since this is a WIFI only tablet with no radio it seems to me the device simply cannot have an IMEI.
So maybe we could spoof it somehow? I'm looking for an app.
It seems really weird to me that Touchdown needs an IMEI to sync. Especially when the native Exchange support for Android works fine on this tablet. Ugh.
Yeah I am lost on this one. Touchdown Pro says it will work on ALL android tablets so I have to think there is a work around here.
Well especially since they went out of their way to make a "tablet mode"... grrr. So frustrated, I really want it to work.
Either app-side or spoofing IMEI.
I emailed support, but I suspect it wont get fixed till the next release. I would be interested in a work around. I do have the stock email working fine but touchdown wont work.
I need my subfolders....
Plus it looks great in tablet mode.
Do we even know for sure if the g tablet has an IMEI number? If so, where do we find out what it is?
Afaik a device has no use for an IMEI without a cellular radio.
Then the question becomes, is there a way to turn off or disable the part of Touchdown Pro that looks for the IMEI? A few people have said that they have been able to get Touchdown Pro working but yet no one is saying how they have been able to do so.
And clearly this is a hurdle they would have had to get past... grr. Stupid devs for implementing this "feature."
I have been chatting with tech support, they want a log file after the connect fails but I am unsure where to find that in Touchdown. Any ideas where to look?

From support:
Hi Richard,
I was able to look into this today for you and found that the Wifi only devices do not connect for the very reason you suggested, there is no IMEI number. Our developer will be in sometime in the next week or so. We will be conferring with him about this but in the meantime, you are correct. There is no way for us to connect on a Wifi only tablet at this time. Would you mind checking in with us now and then to check the progress?
Regards,
Kerri
I love it.... their developer "will be in within the next week or so". So I am guessing it will be at least a month until we have a fix for this from Touchdown Pro. I guess we are back to option #2 figure out a way to spoof or bypass the line of code that looks for the IMEI number. By chance would anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?
As a side note, I guess it is safe to assume that all of the folks claiming to have Touchdown Pro working on their G Tablet are just full of shi.....

Or have run something that pushed a 'fake IMEI' to one of their sqlite DBs... so would be nice if we could figure out which and format of a valid IMEI...
EDIT: turns out the IMSI is in DB... the IMEI is read via RIL from Hardware... thus not something that can be changed in a typical way...
They asked me to email them in the beginning of the week for an update. I think they are concerned about it not working. Wifi only tablets are not going away & its in their best interest to make it work.
Well, it looks like we should start looking at another solution. I guess if we dont have a 3G tablet, it wont work.
Hi Richard,
I talked to the developer and this issue is not on our roadmap in the near future. They may be looking into it sometime in the next quarter, but at this point, it is not something they are actively working on. I’m very sorry.

We were planning on purchasing 100+ licenses for our sales group's wifi-only tablets. I'll be sure to let them know they lost a large order...
I just emailed the following to NitroDesk support:
**********
Dear Support,
It is my understanding that your product does not support WiFi-only Android tablets. I am a member of XDA Developers, a large community of mobile device developers. I read a recent posting on the XDA forum where a member of your support team stated that adding support for WiFi-only tablets is “not on the roadmap” and will not be supported in the near future.
This is a huge mistake on your part.
As the Vice President and Information Technology Manager of a large community Bank, I am responsible for the procurement and implementation of all technology. We recently deployed over 100 WiFi-only Android tablets to our Board of Directors, sales force, and lending group. I have always been a fan of TouchDown, but your apparent disregard of an obvious flaw in your software has left me with no choice but to abandon your product. I was planning on purchasing 100+ licenses of TouchDown for our tablets, but since your product is completely broken I will instead purchase 100+ copies of DataViz’s RoadSync application. RoadSync not only works on WiFi-only tablets, but is also half the price of TouchDown.
I wish your company the best of luck as you lose yet another large customer of your product due to your misguided management and development teams.

I got a fast response back from NitroDesk support. Richard, maybe you can contact Goutham and let him know who gave you the inaccurate information???
**********
That is not true anymore, things have changed perhaps since that posting, our latest beta is now designed to work even without an IMEI number (lack of which was basically the issue with Wifi only devices).
While it may take a while for us to push that to the market, it is definitely something we are not walking away from.
the beta is available here : http://groups.google.com/group/nitrodesk/web/installing-the-latest-beta
While I am not sure I may not be able to get you to try touchdown over RoadSync, i do appreciate you making the effort of checking back with us.
We are working on a lot of new exciting MDM/security/policy related work at this time, that the ETA for this hitting the market itself may be a couple months.
Thanks and regards

ICS patches for the nook color.

Hi everyone. I have been submitting small patches for you to try for the upcoming CyanogenMod 9 ICS on my github page here. https://github.com/meteorrock/android_device_bn_encore.
Feel free to try any of them. If they don't work kick them out. Please accept them into the main line code if they do. I have been very careful resolving the files though for you. I want to see ICS come stable for CM9 if possible before the fall. I will try to keep debugging the whole main ICS line for the nook color for us.
I know its kinda against the rules to submit patches for review without testing them first on a nook color for testing , yet I don't have a nook color for testing purposes. I am hoping you can help me out to get ICS up sooner rather than later on the nook color though.
I haven't been able to come up with enough money so far to set aside a nook color for testing purposes. I have one nook color with cyanogenMod 7.2 stable on it that the family uses and they don't want it to be used for testing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I hope you other developers can help me out and test my patches.
So check them out. I am patching all files except for the kernel binary files and the really tough files, some xml files I had trouble with. I am not up on binary so I will leave those files to the other developers. I do have knowledge of the C languages along with Ruby though. So have fun and lets test them out.
So why not use an SD install to test?
Please explain to us how.
Before you answer ask yourself if you would do this same method before submitting your work. Or if your follow through answer keeps others from further development on the nook color for cyanogenmod to an hidden agenda.
I'm not being obtuse. Look up the word. But I am being direct. Why ask others to test what you have not when it would be so easy for you?
Edit: I see you modified your response. I always test my work before I submit it to the community. I encourage you to keep developing, I have no hidden agenda to discourage you. I just think you should test it yourself first.
And surely you know how to set up an SD installation so that you do not disturb emmc.
Remember I am a femme. I don't uphold your male developer bigotry to noobs.
I have been following some of your long winded posts on here for 2 years bro.
I want you to go and pull at least 5 patches I submitted and give them your honest review.
And instead of sitting on here staring at the forums you need to submit some work ok? Now back to work. LOL.
Maybe I am not in so advanced level, but really I don't have a clue of what you want of other members to do with this patches.
Except if you ask from other experienced developers to check this page, me personally I got confused with all these different folders there. And I guess I have a bit of knowledge since I have the nook a couple of years and tested a couple of things around.
When I had read the title of this topic, I would expect some list with tweaks or installable files which speed up the CM9. Also, some kind of explanation of what each tool does.
Instead there is nowhere any explanation about anything..
Well I will keep going. Learn Git guys. Small patches get submitted easier than large patches.
No more excuses on why you can not do anything.
Have fun guys. This is my last discussion on it. No one likes debuggers but it has to be done. Releasing builds without debugging is just being lazy. I am not porting tweaks , its called debugging in your diff. No one likes bugs in their builds.
/thread
FIRES UP HER GIT FOREVER > Git patches are submitted automatically usually. Otherwise it means you guys got trolled LMAO
I am sure there is a git command for you to use to rebase it. It would take an unix wizard with the knowledge you guys lack to bundle them up in 5 minutes. Could go ask one of the elite developers to help you.
Meteorrock, thanks for your work, I will take a look. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and for the details around Github.
[Q] Asking the community for help
Dear community,
I am an undergraduate student in a Computer Security program. I will be starting my final year soon and with it I'll have to do the Final Year Project (FYP). It can be pretty much anything related to security or hacking.
I'd like to ask you for help so when I have to go and propose my project I have at least four or 5 different good ideas. I've seen many before me going with just one or two and then both ideas being rejected as FYP. It's hard enough thinking of one good idea, but four or more is tricky. So, if possible I'd like to ask for a brainstorm of ideas.
I don't want to set limits, I'll look into anything that is interesting. Ideally, it would be something related to pentesting/hacking on the Android platform, but anything security related would be great.
Thank you a lot for any help I might get.
Can someone get this working for me
Hi Everyone,
Hope this is allowed.
I want to play Diablo 2 LOD on my Tablet ON BATTLE.NET
I have ExaGear and Diablo 1.13d works perfectly OFFLINE.
But I'm willing to pay to get Diablo 2 LOD 1.14D working on my Android device, on Battle.Net.
Don't care if it requires 3rd party loaders or whatever it takes, but i want to play it online, on my Android.
I've tried a few things, but don't have enough knowledge in this area to get it working.
Please contact me if you are able to do this or even interested.
Thanks guys
You need to contact the developer of the app, rather than request someone tinker with other's work.
Regards
