I have the Verizon G2 VS980, and till recently I used the BeyondCell Tri-Shield Kombo Case & Holster , but the holster is a bit fragile and the case is too thick for wireless Qi charging.
I got tired of waiting for Seidio to release a Surface case/holster for the VS980, so I decided to give it a whirl and see if maybe the Seidio Surface Holster would work with a slim case. I decided to try the Diztronic High Gloss Clear Flexible TPU Case, and lo and behold, it fits perfectly! There is absolutely no wiggle/play at all. It slides in easy, as long as you hold the clip back. That's the only "issue" - the TPU material is so "grippy" that the rubber piece under the clip prevents you from pushing the phone past the clip without a lot of friction. To put the phone in one-handed, you have to use your thumb and index finger to pull back the clip while your other fingers guide the phone into position, then the clip springs right back to secure the phone.
So, all in all, I'm super happy that this works. If I were to try to make it any better, I would try a case that was a little slicker to that I could push the phone past the clip more easily.

I wanted something to protect my Nook Color that was as robust but cheap as possible so I got an otter box but the screen was still not protected well. I work with Kydex plastic and so built a small slide in cover that covers the screen and uses the otter box plastic protection to cover the back. I also put a small cut out in the bottom to allow it to be charged when covered.

That's pretty hard core. How difficult was it to shape the kydex and how much does the case weigh?

The nook tablet accessories work well for nook color, since they have the same sizes
Wasn't very hard at all. I heat it in a toaster oven to around 340f an using gloves just wrapped it around the nook with the otter box in place. I used some blue painters tape wrapped around the nook/otter box sides to allow a little space to let it slide in and out. Tried it at 1st without the tape and it was too tight to slide out. It weighs 4oz. Search on Youtube for making Kydex holsters and sheaths you can see how its done.
Is it enough to buy a good screenprotector, or is a case needed? Don't want a bulky case to cover the phone

A case that protects the device's corners and front is necessary to prevent shattering. Screen protectors only prevent surface scratches, not impacts, which are the cause of glass fracturing.
You don't necessarily need a super bulky case like the Otterbox Defender. For the occasional drop, something smaller like the Otterbox Commuter, Ballistic SG, or Incipio DualPro would be good choices.
I agree but if you want to avoid this you will need to hold on tighter or get a full case.
The quick window case may not have saved this though because it might have flew open or been open when phone was being shown to his sister by a quick little friend of mine.

I'm only over sharing this pic to maybe make you folks quicker to hold on to your phone. I've noticed adults want to grab my big beautiful (replacement) phone too. I'm faster to crush their desires, though.

Description: This is the same case as the "DGtle Shockproof Case" listed under the sexy cases thread..
I bought the case from this eBay listing.
Photos: http://imgur.com/a/t9pRa.
Mini-Review: The case uses the standard soft-hard combination of layers. The soft layer wraps the phone; the hard layer snaps in over the soft. The hard layer doesn't cover the top or bottom edge, so corner impacts will need to absorbed by the soft layer only.
I find the hard layer to be smooth and neither easy nor hard to grip. The case adds some bulk, but I find this makes the phone easier to hold.
Given that at this time (November 2015) there are not a lot of dual-layer options, I think this case is a great option, especially given its low price (sub $5--again, at this time).
Let me know if you have any questions.
Updated (Nov 16): A week since I posted this. The cased phone has not slipped out of my hands yet and has been easy to use with my jeans front pocket. The soft layer has not stretched or moved from its original position. Still, because only the soft layer will absorb a corner impact, I am keeping an eye out for a dual-layer case where the hard layer protects the corners.
I think I found, for me, the ultimate belt clip case. I've been using various ones, but the clip always ends up coming loose.
I wear on the left side (I'm left handed) and getting in and out of the car, it will usually snag on the seat belt, the seat or something.
As you know, the Mate8 is NOT a small phone, so the case for a belt clip is not going to be small.
I stumbled across this one, on Amazon. By accident, I ordered the wrong one, but the seller, who lives in the middle of where
the hurricane went, did his best to allow me to return and he shipped me the correct one.

I really like the METAL construction, and the fact the clip on the case, is riveted to the case, with an additional metal spacer inside the case.
The phone fits snugly, and with the Mate8 clear case that came with the phone, will easily go in and out of the case.
It was a little more expensive, but after wearing out/destroying several cases trying to find one that will last, I think this one will fill the need.
Looks good. If this comfortable to you, all's good. I hold my only in the pocket. With "Spigen" case and Tempered Glass, of course.
Does anyone have suggestions to improve the grip on the phone for taking pictures in more rugged conditions? I'm using a UAG Monarch but I would like to have some added peace of mind. Would you recommend the use of a style ring or handstrap of some sort? I'm looking at hand straps on Amazon but I'm not sure about the fit.
Speck Presidio Grip case
Zizo Bolt case with tether strap. I love mine and use the tether when on the boat. I suppose I could also connect a floatie to it for extra safety in case it drops into the water. It has a non obtrusive tether hole in the lower left corner the strap that's included has a squeeze tab to disconnect the longer lanyard. I just take the whole strap off when not in use though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking for a non-case solution, though, as I have 2 UAGs, 1 Spigen and 1 Caseology for my Note 8 already. I decided to go with the ungrip, applied to my Caseology Legion. Will see how it works out.
