is it normal to have only about 4 hours of screen on in xperia z1?
how come because it is a 3000mAh battery?
or is my battery a faulty one?

4-5 hours screen time for 70%? mine lasts a little shorter. 80% for me is 4 hours screen on.

i dont have that many apps in my z1 right now. it is only about 2 weeks old or so. not more than 1 month. is it true that li-ion batteries tend to have its full capacity after certain charging cycles?.
i only use my z1 for texting because i am quite busy with my work.

I'm not sure if its true but I've heard people talk about it. Do what I do, go under developer options and limit background process to 3. Make sure stuff like nfc, bluetooth and gps are off too when you're not using them and don't overcharge the phone

I get 3/4 hours of screen, never got more than 4 and forget 5. Who get 5 or 6 I just don't know how they do that, maybe as I am on 4.3 and not on 4.4 but to me it should not make any difference.
Probably, as the phone is assembled with different hardware pices, like 2 lcd models, then can influence on battery consumption.
Hi,
I used to get 5-6 hours screen on time, but then I started to use more apps and specially listen to more music on it, with 4 hours of music listening I was getting 4 hours of screen on time. Maybe you should try letting it get completely discharged and then charge completely while off. When I was getting a bad battery life it helped me .

I'm in the same boat as you, my Z1 is running KitKat all stock and after a clean install my battery just drains and both GSam battery monitor and the stock battery metre show that the android os and android system take up most of the battery after the screen

Actually I do not complain of battery life when the Phone is in idle as I get more than 4 days in standby with a 30minutes on screen, what bothers me is the time on screen, which is no more than 4 hours. If you cannot get 3/4 days in standby then you have look for sapplication which working in background and eat your battery.

Well, If i use the phone with 3 or 4 hours screen on time I have to charge every night, sometimes 1.5 day with 2 hours screen time. You mean three quarters of a day? I think I will not lost more than 15% if I leave it standby for 3/4 of day(maybe).

Then I don't know where is the problem.
In my opinnion this depends on how you use the 3-5 hours display time.
If they are continuous it doesnt use that much power. When i'm using it at work (don't judge me) i can get up to 6 continuous hours.
When im using it over the day (12-15 hours) i get around 4 hours and a litte more, wich is kinda "hardcore-user" for most people.
My nexus 4 never lastet that long, i could just get over 2 hours display time when i used it over the day and 3 hours at work...
I usually drain about 20% of the battery for every screen on hour (or about 5 hours of screen on per full charge), and that's using Facebook for a long time (a very well known battery killer).Even on my worst days, I never get less than 3.5-4 hours of screen on per charge. However, I tend to keep brightness very low.
Check the battery usage per application using either the built-in monitor or something like GSam battery monitor. You may have a bad application, or too high brightness, or even low signal strength.

Sooo. I have had my Optimus 2X for 2 days now. I charged the phone fullt before goint to bed and left wifi on. (should turn off when phone sleeps)
The first night i lost about 3% of the battery. Great....
But... The second night i lost 42%!!!
I have been trying to investigate the issue and after some digging with spare parts i found out the wifi was on all the time the second night... Also for some reason car home allways runs in the background (starts at boot and restarts if killed) and spare parts claims car home uses the phone sensors 100% of the time.
Anyone else having battery draining issues?
Im going to charge 100% again tonight and run with no installed user apps. If the problem persists i try and freez some of the loads of sys apps that run in the background all the time.
I also noticed some battery drain on mine but not over 40%... its more like 20%. The battery really disappoints me anyway. I have to recharge two or three times a day?l maybe thr battery needs to get trained over time, I hope...

My battery already holds up alot better now, then when i got the phone four days ago.
About 60-70% left after a 14 hour day with some surfing, benching and calling/texting. Much better then my Desire on stock ROM, but still nowhere near the Desire on custom ROM.
Looking forward to some community goodness
BTW, removing carhome.apk seems to make quite the difference.

Quick question about best used on the battery ...
Should we dry the battery to 0 for the first cycle ?
Or only to 20% ?
Is it bad if we start to charge the phone whent the battery is at 60% ?
On the contrary:
modern Li-Ion batteries don't like it if you discharge them to a minimum. Moreover they don't have the memory effect that you seem concerned about.
In a nutshell: Charge your phone whenever you can, at any charge level. Your battery will thank you.
On the first few charges though, you should always charge to 100% to help the battery gain her full efficiency
hey thx about those informations
but then i'm concerned about people saying stuff like "have been doing 3 life circle" for me it does mean they put the battery dry clean ...
Went to bed with 64% charge on the battery. When I woke up (8 hours later), still 64%.

Hmm... My phone last for 6 hours before drained... Had it for a week now... Takes about 2 hours to fully charge up again..
I even hardreset, turned of wifi etc... but alas, 6 hours and it was out of power again...
And that was just by being in standby.
If I actually use the phone, I can see the percentages going down from 100 - 0 in no time..

Is the O4X's battery life as bad as gsmarena is saying? Just a little over 4 hours of video playback and 4 hours of web browsing?
If you read the comments of the blog article on it, you will see that there is a lot of discussion over the brightness.
By comparison to the SGS3 and One X, the Optiums has a much brighter screen which will mean a lower battery life. Of course if they set all the phones to the same actual brightness (not percentage) the numbers would be different.
I am currently waiting delivery of my 4X, but after I have conditioned the battery (let the handset configure itself to the battery), I'll definitely be seeing what its capable of.
Alright thanks, I hope you'll be able to get back to this thread when you find out more.
I've had mine since friday and I think I've charged it about 3 or 4 times now and the battery life is getting better. It lasted only about 2 hours when I first charged it and started it for the first time. But I was using it constantly.
Today I started it in the morning (fully charged) before going to work and now, 10 pm, it's been on for about 16 hours and I have 40% left. Data have been on all day and I've been signed in to Google Talk all day, I've browsed the web for a total of aprox. 1 hour, used the camera, tested the GPS and been chatting with a friend on talk. So I'm pretty satisfied so far.
It's better than my O2X.

That's good to hear. How many hours was the screen on?
I'm not sure unfortunately. But i would say between 2-4 hours.
Edit: okay it was a little less than I thought. The. Battery usage in settings says the screen have been on for two and a half hours. And that's including the time I have used after 40%. I'm down to 25% now.
My Battery lasts after a few cycles all over two Days with medium Usage (No gaming - WA, FB, eMail)........
i ca go for 1 day, with a bit gaming and usual use.
I have slightly longer battery life on my 4X HD than on my Nexus S when using the phones in the same way (casual use). But I think there is room for improvment on the battery life with more optimized software either from LG or when we start seeing custom roms for this device.
I charged mine to 100% and just dropped 8% in 25 minutes, 20 minutes of that was driving and not using the phone, no Bluetooth or anything like that. The battery life is shocking and can't wait for extended ones to become available. Besides that I truly love this phone

How many complete charge cycles have you done?
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
When I got my p880 I did 3 battery cycles, and I could only get about 8 hours of standby alone, no other use at all. I then did a factory reset and formatting of the memory card, which I hadn't done when I switched from my old SE X8. Now my p880 can easily go more than a day with some gaming, calls, browsing etc. My guess is that old android files on the memory card was the reason for the bad battery life. No expert though, maybe someone else has a better idea.
Today I tried the Chrome browser, and it really drained the battery. Something like 20% after browsing for 15 mins. Anybody else have experience with this?
Overall I'm really happy with this phone, great screen, fluid operation, good battery.
I've had battery drainage issues with the chrome browser as well. Even in stand-by the browser would drain the battery. It has only happened like two times for me in the four weeks i've had the phone, so not a biggy but still something you should be aware of, if you experience battery drainage issues

Yep, same. I've even had 40 hours out of it once, but only because I was in meetings for 2 days and the screen was off for 8 hours at a time. that was fully charged to completely dead.

Depends. When I'm at home I charge once per day, but when in at work it just sits on my desk charging. I normally use the phone more at work then I do at home, so it's hard for me to tell if I could really get through a whole day work my normal usage. I have done about 12-14 hours or so with a couple hours of screen time and still had 15% left. To me, the battery has been about 25 percent better than the gnex.

I still love my Nexus 4 and it performs well still but the battery life is now beyond dire, charging it 3 times a day.
Is it worth paying a firm to replace the battery? My thoughts are that I can just put that money towards an inevitable replacement in the near future.

I just replaced the battery in my N4. It was simple, requiring only a small torx driver and a small Phillips, plus a pry tool. The battery was cheap on Amazon and says it is an LG battery.
The old battery would no longer charge at all.

Yeah, I am having intermittent camera issues, a lot of photos come out black even in good light.
It's another excuse to upgrade I guess, has been a great phone though.
I think I should try the battery swap thing, mine just cannot get more than an hour and a half of SOT no matter what combination of ROM, Kernel and Android version I try, and using it during my daily commute means I arrive at my workplace at already 60% even if I'm on extremely low screen brightness. Greenify doesn't help either because it's the actual screen on what kills it, as long as the screen is off the battery drain is negligible.
Worst part is that every single battery out there is a fake, just with a very high-quality copied sticker on it. AFAIK the only way to get a new original battery is through LG and for a price you'd be better just getting a new Moto E 3rd gen for a little bit more and call it a day.

I have decided to give it a go, what sort of screen time is your replacement battery giving you, was the battery from an Amazon Marketplace seller?
almost all day pluged on computer lol
The other day I was trying to kill my battery, so I let a movie stream from Google Play until it died. It lasted TWO HOURS after the battery hit 1%. Yes, two hours of moving streaming on 1% of battery. See attached screenshot for proof (see the flat line at 1%).
Then, two days ago, I tested again. This time I just let it sit at 1% to see how long it would take to die. It took over 10 hours!! See other screenshot for proof.
Anybody else seeing anything similar? Clearly, when my battery says it is at 1%, it really has about 10-15% battery left.

I dont think this is necessarily a bug, I think it takes time for the OS to learn the full scope of the battery - it is always just estimating the charge. I bet after 6 months of use that 1% glitch would go away and you would see more accurate battery reporting. My phone appears to gain %'s when i leave it be after heavy use.

Yep same here, phone went from 4% to 7% yesterday when I was trying to make it last. I had turned off Mobile data at 1% battery life yesterday and my phone was dead within 25-30 minutes of being on 1%. I think everyones phone/battery is calibrated differently. With moderate use I'm down to 25-30% left after about 8-9 hours of use. Coming from my S4 I'm so used to being able to Greenify things, I can only imagine what this phone would be like with Greenify.
Same problem

The other day I was trying to kill my battery, so I let a movie stream from Google Play until it died. It lasted TWO HOURS after the battery hit 1%. Yes, two hours of moving streaming on 1% of battery. See attached screenshot for proof (see the flat line at 1%).
Then, two days ago, I tested again. This time I just let it sit at 1% to see how long it would take to die. It took over 10 hours!! See other screenshot for proof.
Anybody else seeing anything similar? Clearly, when my battery says it is at 1%, it really has about 10-15% battery left.

My phone is having this exact problem. I get about 10-12 hours battery life down to 1% battery, then it stays on 1% for at least 10-12 more hours. Does anyone know if there is going to be a fix released for this? It messes with my head not knowing when my phone is going to die, and I don't want to charge it if it's not dead. For instance, I'm on 2d 5h 14m on battery and it's been on 1% all day. It's pretty insane. Hope they roll out a fix. Glad to know i'm not the only one with this problem.
Next time this happens log your current and voltage readings using current widget so we can see what voltage the battery reads during this flat period at 1%. Then someone could plot the discharge curve in excel. May lead to clues. Perhaps problem with the fuel gauge or battery driver in the kernel. It all depends.
I seem to remember reading that the battery meter tunes itself over the first few charges, and that for the best accuracy you need to run it all the way down then charge it to 100%. 2-3 cycles of this is what was recommended. Can't speak to the validity of it but I know after running it down the first time and seeing the 1% last nearly 2 hours with heavy game use, on the second charge 1% meant 1%.

I'm on my second cycle of running it all the way down now, so we will see after the first 2-3 times if it calibrates itself. If not, i may be bringing my phone back, or ask verizon if they are going to be releasing a fix for it.
Really take it back for that?

admittedly, probably not. lol. it's just a bit annoying.
My note 9 is a week old, but I'm no where the statics says about the battery life, I have iPhone 6 and it hold the battery better than my note 9, my usage is really under average I wake up 7 am with 100% I reach home back from office with 13~10% left , and I really don't use the phone at all, you can say that I use it approximately for 30 min through my whole day my iPhone 6 is at 71% with same usage and my iphone was charged two days ago I have no clue what's up with my phone, I disabled sync, navigation bar, nfc but no luck .

Leave off charge at night and see how much battery it uses during the time you are sleeping. Report back.

Once(night) with flight mode and once without.

Just FYI, signal strength is probably one of the biggest influences on battery life. If you're in a concrete building where the signal is very weak, the phone could be constantly polling for a stronger/closer tower. Using WiFi at work, if available, will help mitigate that.
7 hours sleep lost 20% flight mode is off, I still think 20% idle is very high

That is high, i had same issues.. i was losing around 40% over 12 hour period! 4g on Sync On that's it everything else off..
My NOTE 9 was only few weeks old come to week 4 i had a replaced.. Before having it replaced week 4 battery got much better i was losing around 4-5% over a 12 hour period.
i still got it replaced, one thing I’ve noticed it seems like Note 9 is learning your usage pattern.. Your battery will settle down, you just have to give it time.. Samsung usually offer 30 day replacement! so wait till you get into your mid 20s days if the battery isn’t normal get it replaced!

You definitely have a rogue app or something, I leave home with 100% and use the phone a bit and i have 80% odd when i get home, install better battery stats and check what's consuming your battery.

Get it replaced , dont waste your time trying to figure out the problem. It's a hardware issue.

yes, install the app called better battery stats and let it run for a day, and see which app(s) or process is consuming battery.
Just an observation in regards to deep sleep and signal strength. I've noticed if I place my note 9 in an area where I have the best signal before I got to bed , then less wake locks appear to occur. I've tried this theory a few times.

The absolute max should be 7% for 7 hours (1% per hour drain) and most of the time it should be around 3-4% for 7h. Most likely you have a rogue app on your phone that is causing the issue or you used package disabler to disable some packages in the operating system.
