Help with Kitkat - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I was needing some help, I have tried to update to kitkat but my pc companion keeps telling me that the latest is out, I'm still on .101, I'm in the uk and my Z is running unbranded generic uk software I believe.
here is my firmware and customisation #....
Phone Software Version 1269-5309_10.4.1.B.0.101
File System Version GLOBAL-LTE_10.4.1.B.0.101
Customisation Version 1270_7689_R5C
as far as I'm aware the update was available in the uk, but I cant seem to be able to update, can anyone tell me if the UK generic update is released yet and if not what current regions have been released so far?
I'm pretty sure the UK release was active as my pc companion notified me of it.

It's not released for Generic UK yet.
Use this link to check when it is.
Also, Do Not Post Questions/Help/Troubleshooting in General.

Generic UK mate, expect to receive the update possibly by September....

[Q] Sony Xperia T (LT30p) 4.1.2 Jelly Bean available for UK but can't update

Hello
According to Sony Mobile's UK website /gb/software/phones/xperia-t/ the update is available:
Latest available software: 9.1.A.0.489
Release date: 2013-02-07
I got my Sony Xperia T by phone upgrade when my contract was up for renewal through T-Mobile (UK). When I select 'check for updates' on that website or through Sony PC Companion, it says my phone is already up to date. I'm on 4.0.4, build number 7.0.A.3.195. The phone doesn't have any physical branding or installed software that appears to be related to T-Mobile so I'm unsure if it is classed as a 'branded' phone.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a 'problem' at Sony or T-Mobile?
Many thanks!

Please search before posting and post in the correct section. This is a question that wants an answer so should be in Q&A
However, in answer to your question.
Sony have released the first batch of the update. Non branded phones have started to receive this update which is staggered globally and will take between 2-3 weeks to role out around the globe.
Branded phones will take longer as sony release their update to the carriers who then tinker with the update and add their own bloatware to it. Branded update are generally 4-8 weeks later than their non branded counterparts depending entirely on your carrier and is nothing to do with sony

Do you know if your phone is sim-free? if it is sim-free I would assume its a non branded phone...and should be getting the update. If its locked to T-Mobile, then there is a chance it is considered a branded phone (even though there is no apps etc) and is dependant on T-Mobile releasing the update.
this is my assumption and please correct me if I am wrong
My phone isn't branded and still hasn't received the update (not appearing in Sony Flashtool)
The ftf is bring uploaded now, look in the general section

4.2.2 update in UK??

When will the 4.2.2 update be released in the UK? Seems like it's been out for a while, yet my phone still hasn't found the update using either OTA or with PC Companion on my laptop.
We don't have the insight to say. Nobody has. And no crystal balls.
4.2.2 has been out for a few days only and is clearly rolling out across the piste.
Just wait patiently or use one of the other Generic ones if you're really that desperate. They're all basically the same apart from minor app differences.
I think Vodafone has released it someone on another forum updated his to 422 via Sony bridge on a Mac.
Never.... (joking)
Considering we were left out of the last few updates wouldn't surprise me if we are the last to get this one.
So I would guess a month

You have a UK unbranded device? Customisation number 1270-7689? Or some other UK device?
Not booting up my PC to find out if this is true or not, as other methods of checking are still showing 434 as the latest available for UK unbranded.
Edit: I see you edited your post. Yes, most are aware that Vodafone have updated

Mines was a VF UK handset upgrade - so branded to them. The phone itself didn't report any system/software upgrades, but as soon as I ran up PCC and plugged it in, PCC kicked off the upgrade.
Just use the Sony original Japanese update it doesn't change the language or anything and everything works out is the official Sony update and u just flash it with a flash tool no wipe of data or anything and u can easily root it with doomlords rooting method. It's a one click root.

Just change to a different generic customization. Some people seem to think that there is something special about UK firmware, but that isn't true at all (except that it seems to get updated last). All customizations contain the same baseband, kernel and core. The only difference is the bundled apps, build.prop and some overlays. I think 'Generic ES' is the best customization to change to. It contains all Sony apps (so you won't lose Video Unlimited or anything), of course it also contains all languages and it seems to get updates first.
Also, please stop asking when an update for a certain customization will be released. Nobody will be able to tell you, so it's completely useless to ask. There are ways enough to check the latest version for your customization. I have a list that I update daily or even multiple times a day, you can also create a browser bookmark to Sony's Firmware Update Server (see same thread) or you can use this web check: http://scavenger.ch/sonyupdate/.
Don't worry, it should come sometime this decade...we might even get the firmware update that everyone else has had for 2 months before 2017...wouldn't that be great?

Instead of waiting weeks/months/ages and complaining, just change to a different firmware customization like everyone else did. What are you scared of? There's always the possibility of changing back to 'Generic UK'.

That doesn't exist. In Japan, the Xperia Z was only available through the carrier NTT DoCoMo, which had a slightly different version with a different model number (SO-02E).
Check this list for the available customizations: [INFO] Latest firmware version per customization (region/branding). For the UK, I would recommend 'Generic ES'.

Downloading the 'Generic TW' FTF and flashing it with Flashtool, or changing your customization number in build.prop and updating with Sony PC Companion will give exactly the same result. 'Generic TW' is the only customization that has been updated for C6602. It also seems to get updates first each time. So I recommend to use that firmware.
I will sell my XZ and buy Galaxy S4 i think, its not about changing customization etc it shows how Sony treat UK customers...

Good luck with your (plastic) Galaxy S4 (with ugly *** TouchWiz) then. Hopefully Samsung will release updates faster to the UK
Do you really care so much about the 'Generic UK' customization? It's not like it contains any special features that can't be found in other customizations.

[Q] Stock Rom won't update [uk]

I have the stock rom with no root (C6603) running android 4.1.2 on build number 10.1.A.1.434, it refuses to update to 4.2.2 over the air or using sony pc companion, I avoided rooting this time because I have apps the don't work when the phone is rooted (banking), I'm with virgin media but the phone is unlocked, is there a way that I can get this update without having to root the phone??
thank you for your time
There is no update to 4.2.2 for UK unbranded handsets. I assume that is what Virgin supplied you with.
Enter *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialler then look in Service Info -> Software Info. If your Customisation version is 1270-7689, then you have a UK unbranded device and cannot officially update yet.
You can download one of the many ftf available in the general section and flash it with flashtool however. That does not require root.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Here is a link to change the customisation number of your device (root required) that will make PC companion believe you have an available update to download. I tried this amd it worked first time
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311211
However if you do not want to root the devixe, then simply using flashtool and your stock 4.2.2 .ftf file you will have no problem achieving what you wish
Hope it helps

Unbranded UK users are being completely ignored by sony
I'm in the same boat as you, haven't found the time/patience to flash a stock firmware that actually receives updates. Unbranded UK users are being completely ignored by sony.
I'm already feeling bad for buying my phone via expansys on release.

Why not just flashing an 4.2.2 rom via flashtool. No root required.

I live in Portugal, should I flash the Portuguese unbranded firmware or the Spanish which is in the latest version?
Do I have to delete my data to flash the new firmware?
... sorry for asking, I know that somewhere in XDA there are adequate answers, its just that it would be much nicer if Sony would just release the unbranded firmware for all unbranded Xperia Z's! I'm a software developer myself, and cannot think why, after Sony releasing the latest firmware in the UK (branded), would not release the unbranded version since the only relevant think is the country customization which must already have been achieved in the branded firmware.

Well I don't know of there is a Portuguese one. I honestly flashed a Chinese stock rom and i just check I have Spanish and also Portuguese languages. U really can flash any stock 4.2.2 rom u like. I don't know why unbranded devices don't get an update mine is unbranded too and I had to flash a stock firmware. But it wasn't a big deal. And u don't lose if u don't choice wipe data ur data but there some ppl that had severely issues flashing without full wipe. My flash went without any issues or data wipe. But I can't 100% promise it will work by u without issues too.

Flash tools for mac or linux
If I have the time, I'll flash my phone this weekend...
Do you know what tools I can use in mac or linux? The official stuff only works well on windows. I know there's a flash tool for mac but there are no up-to-date tutorials, maybe I'll risk it, this 2 firmware updates behind is not a comfortable place to be.

Sadly for Mac I have no clue to be honest. And yeah the 2 softwares below make a difference they slightly calibrated the screen even more and also camera a little bit more. This how the phone should had been released.

yeah, my version is
United Kingdom Generic UK 1270-7689 10.1.A.1.434 R14A 10.1.A.1.434 R14A
basically the unbranded and yes I bought it pre-paid from virgin media as I had a contract with them and could get the phone cheaper than I could get it online, find this pretty insulting that they have just ignored a huge portion of their consumers again, they did this with the last phone I had with them which they actually canceled the updates past android 2.1 even though people had 2.3.7 running on it fine at the time and even have jb 4.1.2 running (partially from the sd card of the phone) on that handset, sony release great devices and just leave them with little to no support, I'm tempted to boycott them in the future if this is the legacy they wish to leave behind, very sad since they have well polished hardware, any news on a possible release date for us ?
Im in the same boat and have a generic UK device stuck on 4.1.2 , what stock ROM is recommended to flash onto UK devices so they still receive OTA Updates etc? , really do not want root on the device at the moment due to Sky Go apps etc.
Cheers
Gavin

OTA firmware update for Z1 from UK?

So I see people are talking about firmware updates way pas beyond the xxxx.518, and yet my phone (bought it from Clove) reports no updates are available.
I've tried to connect it to the PC software, same result, the software is up to date.
So the question is should I get it by now or is something wrong with the phone?

Yeah there are 0 firmware updates which is very strange as unlocked ones usually get the updates first! O2 branded phones here in the UK are running .534 so its really frustrating! I've got .534 for the unlocked Central Europe phones and will flash that if the UK one isn't released soon!

You should be able to flash the unlocked firmware onto your EE branded phone... It shouldn't void your warranty but if they make a lot of fuss, you can easily flash the EE branded firmware back.. Don't take my word for it as I've never used a carrier branded phone (always unlocked)... Wait for some opinions on the forum!

[q] z1 c6906 need help please!???

Hey there all,
I have a Z1 C6906 R3B. I live in Long Island NY, and am running on AT&T.
I still have not received the 4.4 update via PC Companion of Sony Update Service.
Can someone PLEASE inform me how to either get the update or change R3B to something that will get timely updates?
Thank you in advance!
From Carriers they are always late to release the Updates. So if you don't want wait just flash via Flashtool the FTF C6906 14.3.A.0.681 Generic CA 1276-7484, with that you will also get rid of carrier bloatware. R3B is just a customization so you phone will be just fine. No other way at the moment. BTW, I will think about it first, before update and have regrets.
Got it... I flashed the generic, i'm now on 4.4. Thanks!
