Customized HTC One M8 Harman Kardon - Sprint HTC One (M8)

We painted the antenna lines Gold on the HTC One M8 Harman Kardon, since the standard one was just a dark grey which didn't really match with the front gold speaker grills or the camera gold accent. Let me know what you guys think, and if the original looks better or if HTC made the back with the gold trims would be better.

I like it. The only thing about the black One M8 for me would be that I would not feel guilty about putting it in a case that covers the phone up completely. Having a gunmetal gray, I like having the phone's back being shown.

Hi well basically all you need to do is put masking tape over the areas you don't want painted (you obviously need to do a good job and get right up to the lines of the antenna) and then paint it using a paint gun or spray paint would work too from home depot or elsewhere, just make sure it says its for plastics on it since the antenna lines on the back are not aluminum and are plastic (for reception since aluminum doesn't allow for good reception). As for the HTC logo, you can do the same or take the letters out with a razor blade or exacto knife but be very careful since they are very thin like paper they will break or crack very easily. Once painted you can put the letters back in with some double tape or adhesive and your done. If you want you can even wet sand and then polish over it, but I didn't on the one I did. Hope this helps

Perfect, thanks

[Q] Does anyone feel that the battery cover is too loose?

Is that by design? Maybe just bad design? Or is it just my phone?
I feel like mine is loose too. Always coming off randomly. A case should fix that problem though.

It is a bad design. One side squeaks when I press it and it is too easy to knock off without a case.

The back on mine seems fine. Does have a squeak on one side, but stays firmly in place.
Mine 1st vivid felt a little loose....I just tweaked the tabs on the cover til it felt solid. Worked good, just be careful not to
Break them.

It's kind of loose, but when mine gets loose I just pull the cover off and put it back and its tight for another three hours or so.

I think the battery cover issue was resolved. My replacement units battery cover had thicker clamp tabs, doesn't squeak of make my phone feel like a cheap knockoff.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Yeah. I am not encountering either one of those problems. I also got the Seidio Active case on mine now.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Mine Vol- squeeks a little. As far as the battery cover goes I don't feel as though it's too loose. It requires an acceptable amount of force to slide it off, and clicks securely back in place
I lost my back cover for a day, found it in my car, I took it off my car Holder and when I took it off, it fell under the seat. I immediately went out and bought a cheap back cover.

Ditto here.
Just bend the metal tabs of the metal cover up so they are tighter against the plastic housing of the phone. I did this too and the problem is solved. Only need to bend them about 1-2 mm.

cover loose
Funny for HTC to go through the trouble of making a sturdy looking metal cover to have it function like a cheap peice of plastic. Doesn't matter how light the fall, the back come's off my raider. It appears if you tweak the side tabs on the cover you'll get a tighter fit, don't break them though. I haven't tried that yet, however.
Remember there was some drop test for this in one of the reviews out there. When dropped heads down, the lid comes off even it's dripped 3inches.
Still like this better than Samsung plastic backs that start warping and squeaking after some taking off and snapping back.

It looks like the hunter f case but it seems like it's thinner and has more rounded edges.

Do you notice any decrease in signal when using it. From experience with the iPhone and reviews I've read on other metal cases, I've heard they tend to lower the signal strength because of interference with the antenna. Only reason why I haven't picked one up myself.

I wouldn't use anything metal now that I have my bumper it definitely degraded my signal quality and I have many more dead spots that I didn't have before. Sending my phone into no service and killing my battery super fast.

BS. The front is black. What's the point?
Also, why the heck don't we see more gold phones on the market?
Obviously not real gold but anodized or at the very least painted.
I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for a gold anodized replacement back. That's not possible for this phone, but it could be for others.

Hehe I guess I overlooked that, but it should be fairly easy to make plastic ones like this.
I remember the iPhone 4/4S had a thing going. What I'm saying is, we should have more options to physically customize our phones other than with cases. It would be cool.

Case, or no case?

Hey everyone. Just wanted some opinions on whether your going to put a case on this device or not? I am usually a case guy, but I think I'm going to find it hard to cover up such a gorgeous phone!! Also, do u use screen protectors on this device? Haven't used a protector for the last few phones I've had, GS4, LGG2.

I am having the same problem, too slippery for me to feel comfortable without a case. I also have big hands, so it is a little small for me to hold comfortably without a case. I also find I really miss the kickstand that my previous two phones had, so I am thinking about getting one of the cases that include a kickstand.
I always advocate playing safe cell phone, so I wrap it up. However, with my M7, I will take it out of the case while at work because our floors are carpeted.
One thing though: I'm waiting for the silver M8 to come out on Sprint before upgrading because self-proclaimed "careful" people in the unlocked One forum are reporting scratches on the gold and gray versions. The stock silver One has no coating to scratch.

For the first time since my HTC Hero (which I ended up getting Ghost Armor on), I'm going without a case.
Didn't HTC say they would replace a broken screen for free within the first 6 months too?
I never had a case on my M7, but I went through 4 of them for different malfuctions, and each one wound up having a dented corner or scratched up grill. So considering this one is even heavier, I know the damage will be worse.

I bought the G.Lider aluminum bumper case in blue from Casefanatic thinking it would fit the vs980 but no luck, the thicker back makes the case a little too small (sorry I can't post link, have less than 10 posts...)
I tried to return it but casefanatic is ignoring my emails. not sure how it would do with the screen protector, but if you want to try it for a lower price pm me if you'd like to buy it from me -- looks really slick and good quality, although I can't say how it'll hold up in the long term...
I have the second one on vs980. It was a little hard to get on but is great once its on. ( took out the little foam inside) Very solid feel. I've had a few drops from various heights and its protected nicely. No noticeable signal drop and all the ports line up correctly. Had to shave my charger down a little though to get it to fit in the smaller hole.I have an x gear carbon fiber skin and my phone is bad to the bone.

I have the silver bumper with the screws in the bottom right hand corner. Seems to be working absolutely fine so far, and doesn't really add all too much bulk to it. Only complaint I have is the nobbly bit where the case screws together. I use my phone with my right hand a lot and this digs into my palm. Phone signal and WiFi not affected by this case, yet to try GPS.

The screen is pretty much flush with it, I have a screen protector and that's why it looks like it sticks out. I used to like having a lip to protect the screen from scratches but I have edge gestures set up now so I like it to be flush
