Black border on boot animations? - Moto X Q&A

Hi all. My Moto X is unlocked and I've been trying to get a custom boot animation on it by switching out the bootanimation.zip in the system/media folder (using ROM toolbox to facilitate this). Problem is every boot animation is too small and has a huge black border around it when I boot up. I gave up and downloaded the stock one and tried to go back to that and... STILL the black border. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Bump.

Bada bing bada bump.

It's because those boot animations are made for a different size screen. You have 3 options. You can either grab the boot animation, extract it, resize the images, then zip it back up, or you could find a boot animation for your X, or you can make one yourself.

That's the weird thing. I grabbed the official Moto X boot animation, and the Moto X is only 720p anyway (pretty small by smartphone standards). What dimensions should I be changing it to?

If it is the official Moto X boot animation then try placing it in system/media manually. You may want to back up the current boot animation first.

The easiest way would be to use Rom Toolbox to change the boot animation; it has the stock boot animations for the entire droid line. MavROM uses the stock D3 boot animation (which is the same as the D2 and D4... come on moto, why are you so lazy...)
It will save you all the trouble of manually swapping them, permissions, etc. and it has a very nice list of boot animations as well.

[Q] How to Reset Splash Screen

I have a bootloader unlocked Moto X and I've flashed a custom splash screen to my device. However, I'd like to reset the splash screen so it updates so it'll match the seasonal boot animation (currently the spring animation has a green moto logo). Does anyone know the command to wipe the custom splash screen and return to the default/seasonal one?
Thanks!
Browse through the themes and apps section, I'm sure its posted there.
When the phone starts up, you first see the static bootlogo (default is the Moto "M")... after that you see the boot animation. So what do you mean by "splash screen"?
If you have never unlocked the bootloader, the bootlogo is the CLOGO.BMP. If you have an Unlocked bootloader, or you've unlocked/relocked your bootloader, its the LOGO.BIN file.
The Motorola Boot Services app replaces the the bootloogo via replacing the CLOGO.BMP, and switches out the boot animation file on its internal schedule depending on location. You won't see the CLOGO.BMP switch if your bootloader is unlocked (because you'll be using the LOGO.BIN instead), but you will see the boot animation switch just fine.
So if you have an unlocked bootloader and want to replace the boot logo, you'll have to manually flash the logo.bin via mfastboot. See -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/themes-apps/moto-x-boot-logos-t2417961 and start around post #140 and post #150 of that thread for info on making your own, as well as a ZIP containing some premade/converted (including the Spring, Fall and Winter from Moto Boot Services, and the defaults), and there is some good discussion later in that thread (starting around post #300).

Right, by splash screen I meant the boot logo. For some reason my boot logo is still the default Moto X logo, rather than the seasonal one, even though the bootanimation is the spring animation. I wondered why the Motorola Boot Services didn't overwrite the old one with the seasonal logo. I'll keep trying to figure it out.

Because. As I said.. since you have an unlocked bootloader, your phone uses the LOGO.BIN for the boot logo... BUT Moto Boot Services only replaces the CLOGO.BMP which is the boot logo for LOCKED bootloaders along with changing the boot animation (which is the same for locked and unlocked).
Moto Boot services does not touch Logo.bin. So if you have an unlocked or relocked bootloader, you have to flash logo.bin with mFastboot yourself if you want to change the boot logo.
I've converted the Moto Boot Services CLOGO.BMP files for stock, winter, spring and fall to Logo.bin's, and they in the ZIP attached to post #150 of that other thread.

Yup! I've used those and they look really nice, it's just too bad that I'll have to flash them on my own rather than have the app do it automatically. It's kind of an inconvenience. Oh well, small price to pay.

Disable T-Mobile Boot and Shutdown Images and Sounds?

The splash screens and sounds at boot and shutdown are the last pieces of tmo branding on my phone. How do I go about removing them?
You can find them under /system/media
Thanks for that tip. I also found this thread which has stock LG boot animations.

How do you change the T-Mobile boot animation on a T-Mobile HTC One?

Hi people.
I was looking through the system files and came across the Unlocked/Developer Edition boot animation zips and the T-Mobile animation zips.
If I wanted to make the Unlocked/Dev Edition boot animation play whenever I turn my M7 off and on (which I will probably do), what do I do to get rid the T-Mobile boot animation and enable the other boot animation?
Any help is appreciated!

I can't help you with those above, but here's some custom boot logos from my Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo guide. Works on all Quarks -- Droid Turbo/Moto Turbo/Moto Maxx. Your choice of colors of the Motorola M logo. Very classy.
Install either via ADB (fastboot) or TWRP. Both choices are offered.
____________
BOOT LOGOS
You can just reflash your choice of boot logo to replace the unlocked warning screen. It's just a static image Motorola insists on showing you that your bootloader is unlocked.
I know, I UNLOCKED it on purpose!
Here's boot logos (not to be confused with boot animation -- the boot logo is what you see before the boot animation starts) you can flash with ADB. Various colors of the Motorola M logo.
Remove annoying bootloader unlocked warning
* ADB FLASHABLE BOOT LOGOS

And here's the same boot logos you can flash with TWRP:
* TWRP FLASHABLE BOOT LOGOS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68579272&postcount=5
Works for all Quarks (XT1254/XT1250/XT1225).
* Black and White
* Black and Teal
*White and Teal
* Black and Red
(The last three with color are custom graphics made by @fenix3nk0r3 . I am using the black and teal on my daily phone.)

What is the size of the Bootologo partition on XT1225? I am preparing to make some bootlogos on Photoshop, but idk the size I should expect to the output zip.
Also, can I brick the device flashing something bigger than this partition?

Read posts #54 - #71 of this thread . Most discuss other users making their own boot logos. Ignore the ones that don't.
Post #58 is very important, as it contains the MotoBootLogoMaker program you can use and screenshots of what to do. It's what I used to make the boot logos.
