Xposed Framework and ART trouble - Moto X Q&A

I think i'm like the only person in the world having these problems. When I try to get help everyone ignores my post. I've tried 4.4.2 and 4.4 and I just cant get ART to work. Ill select it and it will optimize the apps but when I go back into Dev Options it still says Delvik. Countless times. Another major problem that I've been having is that when I install Xposed Framework with the "Disable Hooks blah blah option" off my Nav Bar goes away until I check that setting and then they come back. This sucks because I can't use Gravity Box to pimp my phone. I've been struggling with a plain old delvik running Moto X.

Simple, totally remove Xposed framework & only then will the runtime switch

I believe Xposed is stopping the switch to keep you from a crash.

how can I hide the carrier logo in status bar without xposed?

I'm running a 4.4.2 build on my vzw dev edition and it says Verizon wireless in the status bar and takes up a ton of space. I know there are xposed modules to remove it but I'm on ART so I can't use it. I saw another way but it a seemed to involve java software and sounded a little over my head. Are there any other ways or guides on how to do this or would it be easiest to just switch back to dalvik?

Just switch back to dalvik and use an xposed module:good:

[Q] Switching to ART Runtime - Side Effects?

I'm on a completely stock unrooted retail version of the Moto X (XT1052) in the UK.
The below article says switching to ART run time will speed up the overall performance of my device.
http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-speed-up-galaxy-s5-htc-one-m8-nexus-5-in-a-matter-of-minutes/
My question is, are there any side effects to doing this?
Are all the popular apps like Skype, Facebook, Twitter, etc compatible with this feature??

You should be fine --- try it! Any issues, and you can always switch back to Dalvik.
The only reason most people avoid ART is because it is incompatible with Xposed/GravityBox....but since you aren't rooted, this doesn't apply to you.
Good Luck
Just tried it and it's made my phone slower than before lol.
Also my power button doesn't respond no more so I'm not able to lock my phone as before.
Facebook didn't run either.
Currently changing back to Dalvik again as I don't think the feature is properly ready yet. Will wait for the official Moto release.
I switched to ART today out of curiosity. Everything works as usual, even xposed modules and gravitybox too... I only noticed that my phone is somewhat smoother. Maybe placebo effect...

Lol, you can't have Xposed and ART at the same time. It must have reverted to Dalvik, check it

Yes. It reverted. So, I must remove xposed before ART can work?

Yeah mate unfortunately that's the only option
Yup, @devilsdouble is exactly correct. You can *thank* the Xposed DEVs for this. If it didn't switch you back to dalvik automatically, you would be in a boot-loop now...and probably have to return to stock in order to recover. :good:
Xposed is not compatible with ART. Adapting it to be compatible is in the works, but it's hard telling when that will be completed.

Oh I think it'll be ready for the next version of android [emoji16]

Yesterday I did switch to ART for testing. So far, I have not seen much difference.
I'll test for a couple of weeks and post my 2 cents!
ART allegedely is better for your battery because It uses more than just the JIT compiler. It also takes a while for the apks to be reoptimized compared to how long Dalvik takes to optimize apks after some have been added or updated. The version that comes with 4.4.4 is good but ART likely won't be fully realized until Android L.
Just a little piece of advice, since I just had to factory reset the phone: do not install Monument Valley under ART. It is not fully compatible, and I after an update I got stuck on the boot screen.
Calendar lost is still an art problem - easy to solve with restart, but bugging..

Odd clock behavior

I have used my moto x as a droid pod so i have no cellular connection and my home wifi is screwy so i can't set automatic time and rely on it. The time doesn't set itself when using automatic options. which is fine with me i can just do it manually no problem, right?
Wrong, i haven't really discovered a pattern yet but it seems that every time i reboot my clock sets itself ahead 1h 3m. i think after a series of reboots its totally wrong now. my time currently is 9:50pm and the clock on the phone is 2:58am. the clock in recovery is in synce with the os time but it also skips ahead with reboots i think as i said i really havent determined a clear pattern among issue
any advice? build.prop edit? i did my first edit this evening and it made me feel like a fricken genius so im cool with that but i doubt that there is anything wrong with build.prop. my OS is heavily modified with exposed framework using Xblast and/or gravity box. any help appreciated and will be thanked therefore.

Pokemon Go Fake Location

Has anyone managed to get the fake location working with the ROM?
I have the Purenexus ROM and it's known xposed framework doesn't work well on it.
I have one of the module installed for mock location and it doesn't seem to be working with the application. For me to verify it not working, I would need to flash a new ROM on which the xpose work.
Can someone test it on the ROM on which the xposed framework is known to work without hiccups?

There have been statements about soft bans doing mock locations while playing Pokemon Go. I would use caution.
What are you talking about, why wouldn't Xposed work on Pure Nexus? I've been using it for months now on this ROM. Also you will be banned for this, seen it happen already

They are people saying it because Xprivacy doesn't work on it.
Ninatic has done a good job at minimizing and eliminating spoofers. They continually fixed issues in ingress, that im sure they carried over. There are still ways around it, however, it removes the concept of the game. As someone else noted get out and play.
I'm not a pokemon player, but dealt with spoofing in Ingress.

Google search keeps closing - driving me insane

Currently on Nitrogen OS.. I've been having an issue where I will hold the home button down to pull up search, tap on the search bar to bring up the keyboard, and within a few seconds the search bar clears itself and closes the keyboard. I made a screen recording to show you the issue in action. The first instance I don't type anything, just wait, and it closes itself. The second time I started typing and it happens again. So basically every time I open search I have to tap the search bar, wait for the keyboard to close, then tap the search bar again, then it works... until i need to search something else.
Here is the recording of the issue in action
I've posted this issue in multiple places and nobody knows the answer. Some people have said they've experienced this issue while on stock and with other mods installed. No idea how to figure out what exactly is causing this.
did you wipe cache and data of the google app, and reboot?
did you allow all permission of the google app and reboot?
thats what I would try
This same thing is happening on Moto Z Force (Verizon). I was running Android M when this started happening. I downgraded the Google app to the stock version and it fixed the issue.
I just updated to 7.0 and it's back. I tried downgrading the Google app, but this time it was just uninstalled.
I saw your post on stack exchange but can't reply (rep).
I, too, had Nova installed, as a reply assumed. It said to switch, so I uninstalled Nova, used the stock launcher, rebooted, cleared my cache partition, and the issue persists.
I reviewed your log and I think it has something to do with the assistant; maybe screen polling. My search bar closes after either 8 or 12 seconds (that's not a range, one or the other). I noted your screen recording was 8 seconds.
I'd really like to get this sorted, too. I'm happy to help in any way I can.
No news on this? I'm surprised it's not a bigger issue. Nothing I do helps. The problem seems independent of cash, system resource, or run time.
I sorted it, at least on my phone. I had to downgrade the Google app, downgrade Google Play services, disable both, reboot into recovery, flush my cache partition, reboot, enable play services, upgrade, enable Google, upgrade, and now the issue is gone.

Forgot to mention if you follow this procedure on the Moto Z then you will have to deal with a notification every second saying Motorola voice has stopped working. You just have to muscle through it.
Well, I was wrong.
It definitely worked for a while. Now the issue is back. I'll try to find some time to isolate the issue.

BTW, this is the stack exchange thread I meantime above: http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/163620/google-search-not-working-properly-logcat-included
You do know about a simple tool that will tell you just what is going wrong right? Its called a logcat and it is troubleshooting 101. There are tons of tuts on the site on how to pull and read one. Just stating that it is closing on your device really means nothing and is not worth the time it takes to type out a post unless you add a logcat file with it.

This.
Plus you didn't even list which gapps version you used which would also be relevant to troubleshooting.
