Yes, otherwise you won't be able to edit/save the file.

I have edited default.xml as you listed above, but I don't know why - after reboot the file is just like an old one. Even, if the file is sucessfully saved. I have rooted phone, with superSU installed. Have you got any idea, why is that?

you need a custom kernel with /system writable function to change any /system file, otherwise all changes will be reverted back to stock after a reboot.

anyway around this with a stock kernel?

editing default.xml after each reboot. could be possible with an xposed framework module. Maybe there is already one?

i dunno. xposed doesnt work for me because when i update it and reboot it all resets its self. i feel like the only thing that has gone off without a hitch for me was rooting and unlocking bootloader. everything after that has been brick walls lol.

Would you have to do this for like everything you do in XML files?
Like:
PHP:

<animation-list android:oneshot="false"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

Ive been looking at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814
Particularly post 2
All I need to do is put progress_horizontal.xml into my new theme but even with apk manager decompile and compile, I get a boot loop.
I did the whole delete the modified files from "keep" folder and resources.arsc but no joy.
Dont really know what I am doing.
I know it worked on my previous framework, when mendozinas (UOT) ported it from a theme chooser apk.
Now I just want to move it over to the new framework. There aare alternative progress bar images. I assume all that is needed is the xml, but just cannot do it.

I tried to just make simple edits in the XML, like the battery stats, even adding the "zzz" file I receive a bootloop.

#ffffff

5dp

This
Code:

#ffffff

seems to work in the textview part but
Code:

#0000aa

is totally ignored.
There must be some way of doing this!

turn on light/black theme in framework-res

Hi all iam apk5656 with my guide here i will explain how to turn on black/light theme on your android device
i tested it on my gb vista v7 jb rom but i dont know if this will work on 4.0+
ok lets start
there are to themes skins the black one and the light one in your framework-res
the black one is helpful if you want to theme your framework-res to jb/ics style
and the light one is helpful if you want to theme your framework-res to kk/lolipop light style
if you want to turn on light/black theme just continue with my guide here
turn on the the black one example in settings.apk
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
decompile your framework-res and navigate to res/values/styles.xml
open it and search for
just make it look like this one but dont copy my whole xml just compare it
Code:

now recompile your framework-res and push it to your system/framework folder and give it the right permissions and tada you turned on the black theme
turn on the the light one example in settings.apk
decompile your framework-res and navigate to the same file (styles.xml)
open it and search for (if you didnt find it search for )
and you will find codes like this
Code:

@color/bright_foreground_light

@color/transparent

@color/primary_text_dark

@color/secondary_text_dark

@color/primary_text_light
