About rooting Z - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife have a Xperia Z, I have have thoughts around rooting it. I wounder if there are any 4.3 or 4.4 roms that is exactly as Sonys original system but witth only the basic android apps(no bloatwere)?
The most important thing is that the camera is 100% the same as on the original Xperia system.

No it doesn't. They obviously didn't read your post before replying.
As for prerooted stock roms, there are a few in the development section. I don't think any of them are debloated though. If you have root, you can remove any app you like anyway.
Oh, just FYI for the future - Do Not Post Questions/Help/Troubleshooting in General.

One hardly dare ask about root in this forum, you may only mass response that we should not ask here or use the search. I am still waiting for easy root
Skickat från min C6603 via Tapatalk

There is no easy root but flashing a pre-rooted rom is pretty easy and as said apps can be removed with a root explorer. I don't debloat my roms because people have differences to what bloat is.
Example..
I don't regard some Sony apps as bloat as I use them but some people do.
Best regards

If it helps, I'm going to update my ROM to JB today, but of course you can choose any ROM you wish...
Most ROMs here are stock based, and therefore are very similar.
If you want AOSP then go for CM10, if you like the Sony interface, go for one of the stock based ones.

I never recommend a rom, its personal choice.
Try some out and see which you prefer. There are lots to try and a good rom for one person is a bad rom for someone else.
If you want to be told which rom to use, why dont you just use the one Sony says you have to use and stick with stock

well i unlocked+rooted+ changed the rom miself(the tuts around here are quite kinda very @-) ) ....
and also I've installed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026918 .
also I know that Sony XDA doesn't have alot of devs..so only simple things..
i has an ONE X but changed it with Xperia T (had also Xperia S) .
Like everything else, it's a very subjective question.
Here's my 2 pence worth.
Coming from a galaxy s2, the dev on Xperia t is limited at best. Nevertheless, I've tried crazybuild, xperiment, PAC, jellybam thus far.
Sony stock has too much bloat ware for me, but it has some nice touches like the small apps.
For customisation and features I prefer the jellybam rom, however, it has many issues I.e inadequate camera app, not all toggles work etc.
I'm personally waiting for a stock rom with cm/aokp mods.

Is camera at full res or max at 5m? Also are u experiencing high pitched tone/noise when using speaker during a call?
this is the bad thing about CM related rom that the camera isn't optimized for our Phone..and u lose alot of cool things(settings) + maybe the MP

I use Camera FV-5 and I can shoot at the maximum 13 megapixel of the sensor without any problem.
Regarding the speaker noise, I've never used handsfree during a call, will see if I can try this evening and tell you later.

It depends on your priorities. For me the small navigation buttons, battery percentage customization, and home button swipe gestures are great features that I really miss in the stock rom. And I never use hands free while on the phone, so AOKP (or rather its port KangXperia) is great for me.
I was hoping to flash phandroid like my phone to look pretty, but use hand free often so no go for me

You may then take a look at stock based ones, but with a few "improvements".
Before I installed AOKP I used TiMiN8R's stock, rooted and deodexed, and it worked very well.

Will custom roms be available eventually?

I'm kind of a rookie when it comes to this, I've only ever put a custom rom on a phone that was 3 years old and I know this phone is only weeks since release!
But will custom roms eventually be made for this?

Unfortunately, the only way to root the SP (At this moment) it's unlocking the bootloader and flashing an auto rooting kernel. There are 2 kernels for the SP, one has CWM recovery.

I'm working on preparing everything for CarbonRom
- device_sony_huashan: Device configuration files for Xperia SP
- device_sony-viskan-common: Board configuration files for Xperia SP board
I'm still in exams at university, so I don't have time to start editing the kernel sources at the moment, hopefully cm will pus their sources soon so I can start and see if I made my files good
For people that also want to build a source based rom:
These sources are not usable without edited kernel sources for Xperia SP!!
What do you guys think the chances are that the SP gets a CM10.1 release? And will it be official or unofficial?
I'm on the fence whether to get this phone or not, and this is the deciding factor for me.
It is hard to say what will/not happen as this device is new and only just been rooted if you don't open bootloader.
For true custom roms you need kernels and that needs unlocked bootloader.
Personally I don't care much for custom roms I am happy on stock but with mods that might come along...
Just wait and see what others bring when Xperia z gets 4.2.2 then the ports will start.

AOSP for locked bootloader

Hello There!
So i just got my new xperia Z from my company and it is for two years and i had to pay for it anyway.
I have choosen this one cause i knew its a good phone and have loads of devs, and i didnt check if there is any aosp for locked bootloader i was sure, and i thought i can unlock mine anyway.
I was about to unlock my bootloader and i saw i cant do it i googled for 3-4 hours , and there is no way to unlock it even if you pay for it or something.(T-mobile hungary )
At the moment there is no AOSP rom for locked bootloader.
Here is my question : Sony updates this phone really fast, almost as AOSP or 1-2 months i see some good devs making sony custom roms for our device, Can any of you make AOSP only pure cyanogenmod thaths all i need. I'm Sick of the bloatware that sony has in their roms.
I just boot up my phone and half the memory gone.
Are the sony built kernels and custom roms kernels so different? Is it ompossible to make an AOSP rom ?
I would love to see one , i will definately use it and test it for bugs.
I know **** about android development (or any other) but i will get into because i dont want to use ****ty sony roms for 2 years
Cheers!
Viktor
There is no way to get AOSP on a locked device. Is not only that the kernels are different, but the thing is locked bootloaders only run signed Sony kernel.
If memory is your main concern, flash a debloated, stripped down version of Sony's roms.

yea but we should build an aosp rom for the sony kernel or is it that hard?
in theory its very possible but what will you really gain?
You will have to use pretty much all original binary blobs, and will end up with some framework changes.
is there anything specific in an aosp build that you want?
the Z has one of the most closest none GPE roms around as it is..
as others have said why not just debloat or install a debloated rom?

I've mentioned this before but it never went anywhere, if Sony's AOSP kernel is signed then what stops it being put in an ftf to be flashed, and if that was possible would that not open the way to getting locked down bootloaders unlocked?

It looks to me that Sony haven't provided anything for the AOSP kernel but the sources via their AOSP website (I could be wrong, but I don't see any kernel images on their github, only sources).
In that case, anyone wanting to use it has to build it themselves, therefore it will have to be signed by whoever builds it.
So, if everything I said is correct, then it's no use for getting this running on locked bootloaders.

I think either situation is highly unlikely.
I don't think it's at all possible to "figure out" keys. If it was, the security wouldn't be very.....secure.
As for leaks from Sony, has this ever happened, for any device in their history?

No I don't think it has. You never know when someone might make a mistake, but I'd agree it isn't something to hold out hope for. Kexec or similar is the best bet, otherwise no AOSP for the locked bootloaders!

My Xperia Z with 100% stock firmware and lots of extra apps only has 1 GB of RAM in use. That's the advantage of having 2 GB of RAM, you don't have to worry about memory usage. So just chill out and enjoy your awesome phone
AOSP would ruin a lot of the nice features and design of this phone anyway.

yea and there were good working stock based roms, even dualboot etc with locked bootloader. but here somebody said it before no dev will bother about locked bootloaders if the device can be unlocked for the 70% of the Z users, and razr couldn't be unlocked.
anyway monixified is a great rom its fast and etc but i miss cyanogenmod features like theme chooser and nice weather on the lockscreen
so anyone doing this? or nope?
well you can always remove them yourself with titanium or a root file browser ? remember to backup rom/apps first, as there can be consequences from removing system apps.. alternately try googling for sony stock sys apps that are safe to remove

What would you do with your Xperia T if it had a locked bootloader?

Just looking for ideas. I've rooted and debloated somewhat. What else can be done?

Wow that looks great, will that rom have a performance hit?
I make daily backups with titanium and nandroid. Is that sufficient to fully recover back to how my phone is now if I want to remove the ultimate pure xt rom?
Also how do I know what roms are based on stock firmware?

Just install a recovery (like Philz touch) and make a backup from there, in order to be able to resume everything if you need to revert back.

With a nandroid backup you will totally replace your phone with what is backed up, so, yes, it will restore your phone to the exact same configuration and ROM as it had when you backed it up. Doesn't back up the kernel though, so be careful with that.

Gravitybox allows for customizing certain visual aspects and functions of the phone (read up on the features). If you don't understand what it is, you most likely don't need it; if you wanted extra functions on your phone you'd Google how to do it and eventually end up at some solution for what you're looking for, such as Gravitybox.
And depending on what function of Gravitybox you're using, you might see some some decrease in speed. For instance, at least for me, when replacing and adding buttons to the navigation bar, sometimes it was a bit slower to respond; nothing I couldn't live with in order to improve Sony's Stock ROM.
I forgot to mention I already did install a recovery.
A rom that is based on the stock rom won't replace the kernel will it? Therefore the fact that nandroid doesn't back up the kernel isn't a problem right?

I am about to install that rom. But I have a small problem:
5. Wipe cache, dalvik cache and do a factory reset.
6. Now install the ROM.
7. Once finished installing the ROM, you have to flash immediately the UPDATE-SuperSU.

could someone tell me these steps in a bit more detail please?
Wipe cache I THINK would be done from recovery yes? I have literally no idea what "dalvik cache" means. And do I do a factory reset the normal way? from inside the settings menu?
"Install the rom" I would assume is done through flashtool? or recovery? (I know how to do it, just don't know which one). Then I ASSUME installing UPDATE-SuperSU is done in the same way as installing the rom?
There's just a few details I'm not clear on, I never get answers by asking for more detailed installation steps inside the official rom thread, so I won't bother asking there.

Everything has to be done from recovery...
Rom and superSU are ZIP files and have to be flashed inside recovery.
Wipe cache, then go in Advanced and wipe dalvik-cache.
If you're coming from a rom on Android 4.3 you don't need to wipe data, else you have to.

I can feel ur pain, as I was looking at Samsung N3 Threads both Z1 and N3 was released at almost same Month but there was lots of Custom Kernels and Stuff, that made me think if N3 is batter phone then Z1 in regards of Development? Also its been two days I have created this Thread as I can see there is not much love for CM/AOSP ROMs specially Custom Kernels for CM/AOSP.

I think the most important problem for the z1 developments section is a lot of z1's owner have locked bootloader, this is why a lot of people have stock roms ( or stock kernel based) and they dont use custom room. I have locked bootloader, with status allowed NO and i'm having a lot of problems for unlock it.
Regards!

So, you think the love to Sony Camera is a obstacle?? This problem could have solution, i saw a post with the sony apps port for CM roms. this could be a way to attract users to custom rom.
Regards!

yes! that mod dose not work! but why change stock rom? is there any problem whit it?
I know that the CM based is smaller and smoother but I think our Z1 has enough resources to spend for some nice prestige whit stock rom! and in another hand whit stock rom you can answer the next call when your phone ringing for sure!

Maybe it's because the developers has prefer to buy another flagship like samsung s4 or htc m8 ... I think...
But for me the main problem is the locked bootloader. xD. Also i have to recognise the stock rom is wonderfull.
